Do home details matter for home insurance? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 07:17 AM PDT I have home insurance with Allstate and I was reviewing my renewal documents and noticed that there were several discrepancies with the "home details" section. The agent said all of those are computer-generated to provide a valuation for the home. I don't remember ever telling them anything about the house and they did not inspect it. I just rolled over my insured amount from the previous company. Are "home details" relevant during a claim or is it just the insured dollar amount? I know the agent doesn't do claims, so I wanted to be sure if I need to push for all of that to be updated or not? Edit: thanks everyone. My guess is that the first guy was lazy. After the first few comments, it became clear that I was better safe than sorry. 20 minutes on the phone and the details are updated and their valuation jumped 200k (60k over what I was previously insured at). UK home insurer won't provide proof of no claims bonus! Posted: 28 Jun 2021 08:22 AM PDT My home insurer has stopped insuring homes to concentrate on home security, so they obviously didn't send a renewal or anything relating to the bonus. I have had home insurance for 5 full years now, but I made a claim a little over a year ago. I can't find any info about what this particular company (Neos) does with the bonus in the event of a claim. Judging by other companies, I'm assuming I lost a year or two. I've just switched and have contacted them requesting proof of the bonus. Them: You made a claim a little over a year ago. Me: Yes, I'm aware of that, please forward proof of the remaining bonus. Them: we would only be concerned with your no claims history while you were with us (tells me how long I was with them, and mentions the single claim). Me: don't need them to be concerned about it, just need proof of the NCB for my new insurer, asked him to forward the email to someone who is able to provide it if he can't. Them: 'Your no claims broke when you claimed on 15/05/2020. You will have one year now.' (Still no proof provided). ... Broke?! What?! I'm pretty much lost for words now. I've always just requested NCB proof, received said proof, forwarded it on, thought no more about it. So now I'm so confused and wondering: Do insurance providers HAVE to provide proof? Is there a limit on how many years NCB you lose following a claim, or is it upto the insurance company to decide? Is this whole conversation as ridiculous as I think it is? What do I do now?! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Would treatment for a cat scratch fall under med pay or liability? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 07:52 AM PDT I have a renters policy that has $1k med pay and $300k liability. My mom was at my house and my cat scratched her. Due to the medication she is on, she ended up needing stiches, tetanus shot, and probably wound care. I'm not sure what this would fall under and how it might affect my policy going forward. I feel terrible and I am just trying to make her whole since it was my pet that injured her. I am in Ohio. someone hit me from behind yesterday... no injuries. Their insurance or mine? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 07:50 AM PDT So it was a right hand turn, they weren't looking, thought I went and bumped my bumper. My bumper is scratched but their car has some damage. Should I file through my insurance and let my insurance deal with the other person's insurance? Will filing through my insurance raise my rates? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 07:40 AM PDT Hi. I'm in the US in Southern California. When should I expect a bill? Will they send the bill directly to me? Or through my insurance? This was the first time I've been to an ER so I'm very confused as to how the billing process goes. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2021 06:26 AM PDT Car was parked and was scraped by another car. Front fender and bumper have a decent amount of damage. Deductible is $500 but I can reasonably cover whatever this cost is on my own (so deciding to claim would be a financial decision). Anyway, I am wondering if I should call and report this first - and then decide to claim? I am a bit concerned that it would appear sketchy if I call in a week or so and just say "yeah someone hit my car a week ago" since there are no witnesses vs calling it in right away and then filing a claim down the road. [Va] soft tissue damage after bodily injury claim Posted: 27 Jun 2021 06:59 PM PDT Hi community I was rear ended in northern Virginia at red light by other person who accepted liability and I have been through 35 physical therapy/chiropractic appointments due to soft tissue damage in neck. We are reaching at settlement and Geico is offering $3500 for compensation. I demanded $8000 but they are not ready to give me that as they are saying for soft tissue issues they don't issue much more than $3500. Did you had to go through such case? In that case how much did you get as comp? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Does phone usage affect your snapshot score? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 08:34 PM PDT I recently got snapshot from progressive and I noticed it tracks my phone usage when I am driving. I believe it said it does not affect my score, but I may have miss read it and I cannot find any information on the Internet anywhere. I am in Michigan if this makes a difference [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jun 2021 09:02 AM PDT Basically the title. We've been customers of State farm for as long as I can remember, easily 25 years. The only reason we are is because my parents were. They definitely aren't the cheapest. I know that over time I could have probably gotten something a little less expensive but we had some pretty major losses a number of years ago in rapid succession, total fire loss followed by total flood loss several years later. What really bothers me about State farm is that I feel like between our auto and home with each individual car we seem to be getting something in the mail from them on every other day basis. It gets to the point where I have no idea that what it is because it all starts to look the same. I know it's not. But it's such a volume of very similar looking information that after a while you just become numb to it until one day you pick it up and realize holy crap my rates are up percent. Which means then I have to call raise a fuss get into my agents behind about why this is happening etc etc. Usually my rate gets adjusted, which tells me they're just testing the waters to see how much they can get away with, and who knows how long it's been since they raised it? I feel like someone at State farm corporate headquarters has figured out that it's cheaper for the company or more profitable really to spend money on overcommunication and bank on customer apathy and laziness as they raise rates in the process. Does anybody have similar experience or can confirm it's not just me? Edit: located in Georgia. [link] [comments] |
(Auto) Parked car damaged in a bad accident - what am I looking at dealing with? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 09:10 PM PDT Hi all! I was recommended here from r/legaladvice. I use geico insurance and I'm insured in NJ. Over the weekend, my car was parked out on a rather main street in DC and was hit head on in a drunk driving incident. The other vehicle was totaled, driver arrested, passenger and driver cut out of his car and taken to hospital. The visible damage to my car is moderate. Maybe there will be axle or frame damage, but assuming there isn't and the damage to my vehicle is considerable but doesn't total it…. I am afraid that I will then be driving a vehicle (and owing a lot of money monthly - $500) that has long standing issues and has lost it's resale value. I assume this accident, if not totaled, will cost me approx $5k in value, making me close to underwater (certainly losing all my equity in the car). What are my rights in getting "out" of this car? I want to sell/get rid of it during the insurance claim so I don't have to have it all repaired and then take it to a dealer for trade in- I will lose any built equity I had and that's a real issue for me financially, I won't be able to buy anything else. Is there a way to do this so I don't lose much? It just seems so unfair since I didn't do anything wrong, and I'm over insured as it is, so in theory I've protected myself as best I can :( Facts of the situation: 🥑Insured with Geico in NJ 🥑Accident was in DC on a public street caused by a drunk driver who was subsequently arrested on scene. I was not present with the vehicle at the time until 6 hrs later. 🥑Owe 24k on a wrangler I purchased in August for 32k (incl taxes + fees). Post-accident, I anticipate the value being closer to 25k. Basing this off current comps but also a long history with selling personally built wranglers. Car purchased 8/20 and has about 45k mi. Vehicle has some mods/upgrades that factored into price for me but is a 2016 Wrangler JKU sport. 🥑Damage includes: 2 front tires ($500 MV), 2 front wheels (appears cosmetic, $500+ MV for rims), cosmetic entire front end, unsure under the hood, but he hit hard enough to toss my kids' booster seat into the trunk and move the car 6-8 inches into the curb, and he did it with a charger so, pretty strong force. Any and all advice is helpful. Thanks all! [link] [comments] |
Anyone receive fair ACV from USAA on their car after deemed total loss? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 06:49 AM PDT Wondering if the amount I'll be offered will be realistic from USAA. I posted before about my accident where I was not at fault. USAA insured the other guy, who's 100% at fault officially now. My car was a Toyota with low miles and very expensive to replace currently because of the model and current car market. I also need to mention that the claims handler for USAA I have spoken with once was more than fair about a small injury settlement they gave me. Thanks very much in advance; this is definitely one of THE most helpful subreddits I've come across. [link] [comments] |
I need advice to get my car back Posted: 28 Jun 2021 02:39 AM PDT On May 15, 2021 my car was towed by NJ police for driving unsupervised with a permit and without a car insurance. I've been trying to get it back but I'm slowly losing hope. Im only 20 and all the insurance companies charge what I'm not able to pay. Plus Im gonna have to pay a minimum $1500 at the towing company to get it released. Any advice on getting my car back without having to pay the amount of a car. [link] [comments] |
Former employer renewed my insurance and seems to be paying for it. What am I supposed to do? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 02:39 PM PDT I left my old employer in May '20, and as part of my severance package, they paid for 6 months of insurance premiums through COBRA (through November '20). I paid Dec '20/Jan '21, but took a new position in Feb 21, and my new employer covers all my healthcare, so I cancelled my COBRA coverage. I recently logged into my patient portal (of my PCP) to check on my billing, and I was surprised to see that I didn't owe anything. Well, today I logged into my old insurance and it turns out I have an active policy under my old employer. It looks like the auto-renewed my old policy, which I never signed up for, and it's been billed for most of my healthcare this year. What should I do with this policy, and besides just making sure that everything gets billed to my new insurance, am I liable for the claims/policy for this year? Edit: I am in WA state, former employer in IL, had BCBS of Illinois (before cancelling COBRA). [link] [comments] |

Does Liberty Mutual Provide Field Employees with Company Cars? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 06:16 PM PDT Hey All, So I was looking into a career in the insurance industry and noticed a position for a " Field Property Claims Adjuster" for Liberty Mutual, does anybody know if the company supplies a company car for field travel? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 09:01 PM PDT I was in an accident a while ago where I hit a dumpster. A car swerved in my land and I swerved into the dumpster but HARD due to my speed and theirs. Used my own collision to cover my cars damages and expected my premium to go WAY UP cause I was sure I'd be found at fault, didn't mind at that point as long as my car would be covered. My insurance renewed and my premium went down and I was found to be not at fault for the accident. Not complaining at ALL lol but just wondering why this would happen California driver [link] [comments] |
Insuring a vehicle with a Learners License in BC Posted: 27 Jun 2021 08:28 PM PDT Can anyone explain to me if I am able to Insure a car I am about to purchase even though I only have my Learners license. I live in BC. I've owned a van before but it was in my buddy's fiance's name. Never had a vehicle in my name before let alone insured one so it would be sweet if I could get some answers on this. Can the bank that issued your car loan require you to have GAP insurance even after a few years? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 08:21 PM PDT I can call and ask if they require it, I just wanted to check in with reddit first. [link] [comments] |
Should I claim insurance or not Posted: 27 Jun 2021 07:49 PM PDT New to the world of insurance. Recently bought my first ever car and scratched it while parking, estimate is around $2000. If I claim it against insurance, what would be the impact on premium. Also, would it be shown on carfax, if I plan to sell the car in future. FYI, I am based in Washington, USA [link] [comments] |
First time accident. What to expect? [FL] Posted: 27 Jun 2021 11:37 AM PDT So this morning I accidently hit another car. All my fault. Now, thankfully everyone is fine. My car came out fine, (besides the fact I can't open my hood) however I'm not going to lie, I'm absolutely mortified of what my insurance is gonna do once they review my claim. I have statefarm and this was in Florida. I guess what I'm asking is what can I expect after this incident and maybe if I could have some opinion on what that damage I caused might cost me. The guy I hit refused to open his back door so I can't tell if it opens or not. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
car insurance premiums after filing claim, but not using coverage Posted: 27 Jun 2021 07:07 PM PDT I'm really confused about this. If I file a claim, but don't actually use the coverage, does my premium go up? Why would I choose not to use my coverage, if it doesn't change my premium? [link] [comments] |
Can I get a rental car from at fault's insurance? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 10:20 AM PDT Hello! I'm in Texas, and was in a not at fault accident and my car is determined to be a Total Loss by my insurance, and an offer was made by them. My insurance's agent said that the at fault's insurance would make the same offer they did if I were going through them instead, so at first I wasn't interested in dealing with their insurance... but my insurance is only letting me keep the rental car for a few more days, and I don't have another means of transport until we can find and buy a used car. Getting a rental car myself is out of the question too because any rental car is $200 a day minimum in my city due to current supply/demand. TLDR: Would the at fault's insurance cover my rental car if I went through them? Thank you so much for your help! [link] [comments] |
What kind of Auto Insurance for Rental Car? Posted: 27 Jun 2021 02:05 PM PDT I'm planning to rent my extra car out to rent and I'm looking to see what kind of insurance should I ask the renter to take, so the insurance don't come on my back as the owner in case of an accident. I saw another post saying the owner will be dragged in as well in case of accident. How can I protect myself(owner) from such instances during accident claims? The Texas law where I'm in says, "Borrowed cars : If you cause an accident while driving a borrowed car, the car owner's insurance pays claims. If the owner doesn't have insurance, or doesn't have enough to pay for the damages and injuries you caused, your insurance will pay." How can I defend myself where the insurance company is trying to involve me as the owner in a claim for an accident made by my renter? How are these rental car companies protecting themselves then? Please advice. I'm in a desperate situation. Thank you!! [link] [comments] |
