Question about creative advertising Posted: 11 Jun 2021 06:30 PM PDT I started a new seasonal business in October 2019. Covid-19 hit during my peak months (spring) so I closed down, and when I reopened, it was the slower season. However I made enough income to keep my small business going, and worked in another field to keep my finances afloat. This year was my sink or swim year. Turned out I can swim! I have never been more proud of me. So my business is unusual. I clean grave markers/headstones. I feel uncomfortable when the school calls me wanting to advertise in the local yearbook. I have decals on my car, and I think it has worked better for advertising than spending $300 month in the news paper for an ad. My next plan for advertising is to buy cute little flags with something like "cleaned by xxx (555) 555-5555" and place them at the headstones I have cleaned. That is a short term plan, and I can not afford to place too much into advertisement yet. Does anyone have any ideas of ways to help me boost my business while not breaking the bank? I have free social media, a free (.host.com) website, business cards, car decals, free listings, paid chamber of commerce, but maybe I am overlooking something? Edit to add that I am in a small town and I cover a region of maybe 25k people [link] [comments] |

QUESTION regarding a Personal Loan to fund a small business Posted: 11 Jun 2021 01:38 PM PDT I am in the middle of starting up my own business and a friend has agreed to provide me with a personal loan at a 5% interest rate. Obviously I fully trust this person, but does anyone have any suggestions on a section that should put into our formal personal loan agreement that provides clarity that this doesn't give him ownership over any part of the company once the loan is paid back in full? Again, I trust this person enough to feel weird about bringing a lawyer into the fold, but I can't seem to find any answers online. Thanks for any suggestions or insight! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Jun 2021 12:51 PM PDT Does showing your society VAT number add trust during a deal? I mean, when you start a business may be hard to show to your potential collaborators that you're serious in what you do. So how do you add trust when you contact someone, apart from body language etc.? [link] [comments] |
Why is it so hard to find business template platforms that are actually easy to use for beginners ?? Posted: 11 Jun 2021 06:49 AM PDT All these platforms seem unnecessarily complicated and non intuitive. Like I've only had luck finding one platform that's actually good. It's called Cardstack. I think a lot of you already know it. It takes care of most of the work that I need to do, so that's good cause I'm new to this and short on time tbh. But I cant seem to find any other platforms that can help me in the same way ! It's so annoying ! [link] [comments] |

How did you land your first customer? Posted: 11 Jun 2021 09:58 AM PDT Just curious about other small businesses (that are usually a one-man/woman show) and how you managed to land your first few customers. What did you learn from it? Would love to hear your unique stories! [link] [comments] |

Potential client wants me to fly out to meet in person Posted: 11 Jun 2021 09:30 AM PDT Hey guys, I own a production company and am pretty new to all of this. After a zoom call with a potential client he stated that he would like to meet me in person before he thinks about doing business with us. In a situation like there where there could be a potentially large contact would you charge the client to fly or would you use your own funds? Or would you not fly at all? Pretty unsure of what to do, would love some advice (: [link] [comments] |

Converting my sole prop to LLC and moving it to another state. Posted: 11 Jun 2021 04:23 AM PDT I'm a sole prop in AZ. The majority of my business is in the midwest but i don't want to move my residence. I'm considering forming an LLC in IN. Would it be better to form the LLC in AZ and register as a foreign entity in IN? (Taxes are not a factor in moving) [link] [comments] |

Ted Turner and His Sale of Turner Broadcasting System Posted: 10 Jun 2021 09:24 PM PDT Hi All, Ted Turner has always fascinated me. He seemed like a great builder of companies, but I could not understand why it seemed like he actively pushed himself out of power, repeatedly. Why did Ted sell TBS, which included CNN, TNT, and WCW, to Time Warner? Did he really want that deal to go through? And how much did he make off of it? It looks like he just took equity stakes in the new companies, for compensation, instead of cash. A WSJ article said he lost $8 Billion(!) in wealth tied up in AOL Time Warner's suffering stock price (https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB1043973307897365744). He got a Vice-Chairman role at Time Warner after the TBS merger, and was head of cable networks, but was stripped of his cable network responsibilities by CEO Gerald Levin (the former chairman of Time Warner during the TBS merger). After Time Warner merged with AOL, he was also Vice-Chairman of the new company, but Levin was named as the 16th worst CEO of all time by CNBC in 2009 (https://www.cnbc.com/2009/04/30/Portfolios-Worst-American-CEOs-of-All-Time.html). It seems as if Turner was a bad judge of character with Levin, and if he really was being honest with himself, probably wouldn't have pushed for the merger with Time Warner in the first place. Also, if he was being honest with himself, he wouldn't be surprised that he had given up all power after the Time Warner Chairman. Vice-Chairman and one board seat was nothing compared to his ownership of TBS. Do you think he got tired of running TBS? He was 58 years old at the time of the merger and had 20 years of running TBS under his belt. But, the real titans seem to work into old age (especially in the media industry). Why do you think he wanted to merge? This article says he and Levin "Personally met with FTC Board members to lobby for the deal's approval", https://money.cnn.com/1996/07/17/companies/time_warner/) so I would assume he was on board. To my knowledge, no one forced him to sell. In many articles, I've seen him talk about how he hates the fact that he lost CNN, and it seems like, from the Time of the merger on, he was sour grapes about not being able to control his own businesses. Does Turner have any valid gripes? Or was he his own undoing? He lost $8 billion in wealth, and his babies TNT, CNN, TBS, and even WCW. Has there ever been a bigger downfall in such a short amount of time (7 years, 1996-2003)? Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
