I went back to the office this week and it sucked hard Posted: 10 Jun 2021 05:12 AM PDT I basically do the same thing at the office as I do at home. Except I am a lot more tired coz I have to waste 2 hours travelling to and from the office. I have more headaches and a strained neck coz I can't work in my PJs and I have to be glued to my screen to "look busy". I have to wear tight office clothes that are frankly strangling all parts of me. I can't just walk away from my desk whenever I feel like to ease out the long periods. No taking those 30 minute breaks at home anymore. My productivity is actually worse compared to when I'm at home for reasons including the factors above. Notice how the majority of people saying we need to go back to work are bosses who have their own room and also need to have staff to monitor so they can pretend they are contributing value. I was reading up the article saying people would rather quit their jobs than go back to the office. I heavily agree especially knowing the only reason we do it is because the bosses have such fragile egos and don't want to be exposed that a lot of their "responsibilities" are not real ones. Posted: 10 Jun 2021 09:44 AM PDT I made a post a couple days ago about how she fell asleep after lunch and now this week she hasn't shown up in three days. I have all the work done (for what she had asked me to do), but I have literally been sitting at my desk for two days straight with nothing for me to do. Is this normal? The administrator stopped by and asked me if I had seen my finance director and when I said she hasn't been in the office she responds with "well hopefully you don't get too bored" lol. I am not complaining but is all this normal? Also there's only two people in the whole department: the finance director and myself lol I have payable batches and reimbursements to post but I am not allowed to post them until she reviews them. There's over 50 payables lol that's just sitting in the system. What shall I do? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jun 2021 07:22 AM PDT Another associate is messaging me daily to give me some of his work and I'm not sure if I can just flat out tell him to stop or if I should go to the manager and say something. I don't want to seem like I'm not a team player but at the same time it's getting to the point that I just say I'm busy and can't. But now he's adjusted and just messages me things to do instead of asking if I'm free. I don't want to not do them and he just blames me for things not getting done. What should I do? My employer just hit a new low. I can't fucking believe it. Posted: 10 Jun 2021 12:41 PM PDT I'm beyond livid. I'm still wondering why I haven't just walked out and called the IRS on these fuckers yet. I'm going to preface this with the fact that I'm a non-traditional student and career switcher. I have about a year left until I graduate. Also, I know I've posted about some of this before, but this is a whole new level of shittery. I handle ALL of the BSA/AML compliance stuff for a small casino. Transaction monitoring, CTR/SAR filing, training, etc. I was initially hired as a revenue auditor for $13/hr with the understanding that once I completed AML training and certification, I would get a significant raise and a title bump. I was also working with management on the accounting stuff; booking entries, gathering supporting documentation, taxes, etc. We were forced to close because of COVID right after I finished my training. When we came back, the accounting/finance department managers had been replaced. But I brought up the prior arrangement to the new boss and they were on board. However, they did take me off ALL the accounting duties. Which was disappointing, since I was learning some really good stuff. I understood that the raise might be a bit delayed until we figured out what, exactly was going to happen, but they did agree to at least change the title. After 3 months, it was clear that, even though we were running at half capacity, we were on track to do better than last year. So I brought up the issue of the raise again and was told by my boss, (who is the controller and is also paid like shit), "We're working on it with the owners. Believe me, I want one too". This sent up some flags, so I started working on my resume, but kept going with my duties. A month later, I had to pull teeth to get them to send me to an AML webinar conference. It cost less than I make in a week. It was around this time that I started passively looking for other jobs, but nothing good was popping up. Today, I saw a posting on a job board from our company for an AP position. For $16/hr. I shot through the roof and lost my shit on my boss and the GM. Because In what fucking world does an AP position warrant $16/hr when I only get $13 for having to make sure we aren't running afoul of some incredibly serious laws with incredibly serious penalties. They were sympathetic, but essentially told me that I should apply for the other position because the people who control the money aren't willing to shell out a single red cent on raises. They also told me that they basically have one foot out the door because of how badly things are. To top it all off: I stopped by HR later that day to ask about the position and then asked them to look up my job title in their system. Guess what? I'm still an audit clerk. Other fun things: In February, my AML certification and organization membership lapsed. I told management that it was due for renewal back in December. Still isn't renewed. I haven't attended an industry conference or undergone any additional training since October/November. This is a fast-moving industry. You have to stay on top of things. We had to fight tooth and nail to get an automated compliance system brought in. The only reason it happened is because one of the other owners (with otherwise incredibly limited control) was able to get the service provider to take the cost of the system out of fees we already paid to them for processing ATM, Credit Cards, and Checks. This isn't due to be installed for another month, and even when it is, most of our staff won't be able to use it properly because they're ancient and the program UI is awful, complicated, and a sea of grey and text boxes. This is probably the most egregious fuckery I've ever witnessed or experienced, (and that's saying something because it's really rampant in this industry). I'm so fucking pissed, I can't think straight. The only reason that I haven't walked out is because I just can't get anyone to reply to any of my fucking applications. Not even Walmart. And I don't know why. TLDR: employer has had me handling AML compliance for the last year for $13/hr, but is paying AP $16. I'm also not even a compliance officer in their system and they don't seem particularly interested in keeping up with requirements or maintaining an effective AML program. Want to walk and whistleblow to the IRS so they can crush these people, but I can't get a call back from anyone else for another job. Need advice or something because I'm ultra pissed and it's clouding my judgement. [link] [comments]

I had no idea how lonely it is being a jr. accountant. Posted: 10 Jun 2021 07:49 AM PDT I just started a week ago. The rest of the office is entirely remote it's just me in my office, the CFO across the hall and my boss our Controller in a separate building. It's different being isolated from everyone and we communicate primarily by phone and email. Is this just the standard day to day of being an accountant? I'm starting to have second thoughts and feel I should have gone into consulting... [link] [comments]
Is this normal for other firms or are we just understaffed? Posted: 10 Jun 2021 06:32 AM PDT Started 4 months ago in IT audit as an associate for a smaller firm. I don't know if it's just my firm but I've been acting as senior for all the jobs I've been on. Very little guidance throughout the whole process Is this normal or is this a red flag that they are severely understaffed? [link] [comments]

Burned out.... Anyone quit to Travel? Posted: 10 Jun 2021 12:11 PM PDT Throwaway for obvious reasons. Been grinding for 8 years now since college (3 in public and 5 in industry). Current industry job (3 years) pays well but has been absolute hell over the past year and am absolutely burned out. Currently work at start up (never again) and the work is just too much and frankly I don't give a fuck about anything anymore. I used to pride myself on providing quality, timely work and now I can't even get out of my bed each morning without a panic attack knowing the onslaught of bullshit waiting for me. I manage the entire accounting department (very lean team for our company size and complexity of transactions). Don't want to get into too many details but I am basically left alone on an island all day because management doesn't understand the importance of accounting or what we even do to ensure we can pass our annual audit. Anyone ever quit to just relax and travel for a a bit? Honestly feel like if I go into another job right away with this level of burn out, it's gonna end just the same. Lease ends next month. Have years of savings to last on, but ideally I'd only want to take 4-6 months off. Not too worried about finding a job when coming back, but not too sure how to proceed in quitting. I like my team for the most part and this summer would be suck for them if I left now, but I'm afraid I'm gonna rage quit one day and burn even more bridges. Any advice for someone who is burned the fuck out from this profession? [link] [comments]

How is it working at Deloitte ? Posted: 10 Jun 2021 11:22 AM PDT I've recently been approached by an old coworker who currently works as a Senior Expense Auditor for Deloitte and they're encouraging me to apply for the same position. I'm not sure how the culture is, if the benefits are worth it, etc. A little about me: 25/F BBA in Finance; MSF; been in state auditing for 2 years & 6 months, will have my CFE at the end of this month. Financial Modelling Practice Cases - Interview Prep Posted: 10 Jun 2021 06:04 AM PDT For those that are preparing for technical excel interviews, we are building a repository of financial modelling practice cases. Practice cases will cover all industries and sectors and will include different levels of difficulty (based on speed, industry knowledge, financial modelling experience). We are working on integrated 3 statement models (operating models), LBO models and project finance models. These models are designed for interview preparation and we expect modellers to have at least some experience with financial modelling. Best part is that we're offering the models free of charge! Here's a sample consumer discretionary (apparel) model for Under Armour, Inc.: 404 Error - our website will be up shortly! the mouse is unplugged [link] [comments] |
