Should I shorten the work week? Posted: 04 May 2021 04:22 PM PDT Listened to a story on NPR earlier today about creating a shorter work week. Obviously there are hurdles, but I was thinking I could realistically cut the work week to 34 hours, doing four 8.5 hour days and bump everyone's hourly pay up the difference so they're earning the same amount. For example, an employee currently making $13.50/hour doing 40 hours a week will now earn $15.88/hr. OT would still start at 40 hours for now. We already have paid time off policies for all employees, PT and FT that equate to a minimum 3 weeks PTO based on their average hourly work week (if they work 1 shift a week, they get 3 shifts a year of PTO). Because of varied deadlines I don't think the three days off can all be consecutive, so depending on the site it might be Wed/Sat/Sun or Thurs/Sat/Sun. Is anyone here already doing something similar? How's it working out for you? [link] [comments] |
Choosing an accountant how important is it? Posted: 04 May 2021 01:38 PM PDT Just curious as to how much thought and energy I should put into which accountant I use, if they get all my paperwork filed on time is that good enough? Or are there just some better at the job that might direct in a better direction on how to spend and handle my small business finances? Have any of you had bad experiences with choosing the wrong one? [link] [comments] |
People posting their PPP loans on Social media. Posted: 04 May 2021 06:34 PM PDT I've seen many people flexing on social media about their$20,000 deposit. Many of their businesses were created in 2020. I did some research and to only get approved for the max amount of $20k in government loan is to have a business that is $100k in net profit. Many people applied for this loan and got approved, I hope they know what they're doing. Tax season 2021 is going to be a doozy. 🥴 [link] [comments] |
Restaurant/business owners, what solutions are you trying for the labor shortage? Posted: 04 May 2021 02:37 PM PDT I've been given a grateful offer to acquire a restaurant business. I have some experience in the industry but haven't been on the owner position before. But I've recently been seeing a lot of news with restaurants having difficulties finding labor/workers. With the current situation, what are solutions are you trying/doing? I've seen wage increases and/or bonus incentives like "$300 bonus to apply & work," or any other methods. Is this a common practice now? Is it difficult to keep employees constantly motivated without some big bonus/incentive? Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 May 2021 01:58 AM PDT No one expected this (not even White House staff) and it's incredibly disappointing. More than 1.5m eligible small business owners who applied through Womply are not yet approved. As well as many other companies. [link] [comments] |
Getting LOTS of traffic but not enough sales: What am I doing wrong? Posted: 04 May 2021 06:12 PM PDT Hi everyone. I'm back here after such good feedback from everyone here a few months back. I feel like I have a VERY good website, strong CTA and good quality products but my conversion rates suck. I have been getting a lot of traffic (100 users/day) through my socials and community engagement but it's been very hard getting sales. I know I have to work on my SEO, tags. etc but they're not a reason why I'm not converting. I have a lot of faith in my items and they're of excellent quality. Once people buy they're very appreciative of them. I want to know what I'm doing wrong in this online world that's not making any sales for me. I would really appreciate some genuine advice. Please be kind. TIA 🙂 The store link [link] [comments] |

Need some advice! Growing my buisness Posted: 05 May 2021 03:38 AM PDT Right now my business partner and I own an llc company. We have a 2000sqf warehouse type building. We have a few vehicles and a tow truck. So far we do welding, mobile and in shop auto work, and some car flipping. Yes we do everything by the book. My question to everyone is, what direction should we go in to take everything to the next step of profit. I'd like us to get into a more defined area of business but just don't know which would be the best and most lucrative. Right now I know welding and machining is a good demand area, as well as car and gravel hauling. The only thing that's kind of difficult is the fact that we can't have any signs on our building with the company name, and we can't have customers on site. The building is leased to us as "commercial storage" and I don't believe it's zoned as a commercial site? I'm not sure. Anyway, any advice you can give, or experience you can share in these areas would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 May 2021 03:26 AM PDT I have a printful account but the options for customization are limited. I don't want to use teespring and websites like that because I want to have my own website and room for creativity with personal branding and clothing types. How do I go about brining my visions into reality? I'm very new to this. Do I hire an outside source to take my design idea to make the clothes? What if it's a complicated idea (ex: all-around print, special fabrics)? How do you format your design to send to the outside source (right now the are on illustrator? I don't understand how some of these brands do it. I know some hand make the clothes themselves but I know that's not the case for most (at least the small street wear brands I've been starting to follow). If anyone has experience and is willing to explain a step by step to me from design to delivery that would be helpful. Otherwise any other advise would be great too! I'm sorry if these questions I have no idea what I'm doing and have been too intimidated to try. [link] [comments] |
Should I publish my app to the App Stores as a company or as an individual (EU resident)? Posted: 05 May 2021 02:18 AM PDT Hello! I am having a hard time figuring this out. I developed and own an app that is generating around 2700$/month (after the Google and Apple tax). I am currently living in Spain and have registered a company here for the app (a Sociedad Limitada or S.L. which is similar to an LLC in the US). Before being able to use this money for personal reasons I need to: 1) Pay 21% tax on the 2700$ as corporate tax. 2) On the remaining money I then need to pay income tax which is another 21%. In the end, I am paying around 42% tax. The company has only 1 employee which is me. My question is: Would it be wiser to scrap the company and just post the app as an individual and thus saving myself from paying the 21% corporate tax? Thank you for any help! [link] [comments] |
Is there an easy way to fire someone? Posted: 05 May 2021 02:09 AM PDT I do not have a problem letting people go, my problem is kind of having anxiety to face them and tell them while looking straight into their eyes. Then comes the talk which I hate, it wastes time and energy. In addition some people tend to mix work and social life giving me the shocked face because they thought I was their "friend". Also firing people means you probably will bump into them in the future which is super awkward. Some nut jobs will take it personally and seek revenge by spreading false rumors or whatever other approach. Is there a way to just end it without the fuss and awkwardness? I dont want them to feel bad for themselves, i just want to get to the point that the setup just doesn't work out and thats it. Its especially hard when they haven't broken the policy/rules but more like they are just not competent enough. I can fire them rudely, I am just not that guy. [link] [comments] |

PLEASE HELP! Can't Find an International Supplier! Posted: 05 May 2021 01:12 AM PDT I would like to start a mechanical accessory company and would like my products to be produced by a Chinese- or African-based manufacturer. I've tried searching for one through Google and Alibaba, but to no avail. How can I find one and are there any that offer shipping services as well? [link] [comments] |
what are the best parts about owning/operating a small retail store? Posted: 04 May 2021 06:29 AM PDT I previously asked what are the reasons not to open a small boutique (brick and mortar) and got some good input. for those of you *who actually own* a retail store, what are the best parts of owning or being the owner/operator of a retail store as compared to other things you could be doing? Small run of Large Die-Cut Vinyl Stickers for a car? Posted: 04 May 2021 06:23 PM PDT I want to advertise on the side of my car, and I want to get a big die-cut sticker to do it! I just ordered a handful of stickers from stickergiant but they are small, and I would have to order 125 as a minimum quantity, and I only want 5 or 6. The sticker is already designed with cut lines and everything, I just need to find a company to do it. Any recommendations? I need something in the 17" Wide x 12" High neighborhood. Posted: 04 May 2021 08:29 PM PDT Before I continue, I understand that my best and most concrete option is to contact a trademark attorney but I am the type of person to get as much info/opinions as possible. I want to do everything legally and I am ready to use another company name either by rename or DBA. So I painstakingly thought over what my LLC's name should be, made sure the domain was available, and that the direct trademark was not taken. The LLC has been organized and financial accounts made. Unfortunately, I just realized that the exact phonetic equivalent already exists and is trademarked (they have "ics", I have "ix") since 2013. I know, stupid mistake on my part not thinking of this. I really like the name so I've done as much research as I can and this is what I have so far: Time: They have existed and have had the trademark since 2012/2013. Their company and trademark are still live. My LLC was formed this year and it has not started doing business at this point. Industry: Their industry, according to their website, seems to be industrial electronics design consulting and general home automation stuff. They list quite a bit of general industries that fit under these two main options in their trademark. My company's industry would be in the consumer electronics market and entail the design, manufacture, and sale of those products. I have considered doing electronics consulting with this LLC as well so I'm not sure about that angle at this point. Presence: It appears that they don't really have an online presence and while they have a website, it hasn't been updated since 2013. I cannot find them on linkedin, facebook, etc. The owner is also almost completely off the internet past some really old mentions. They do not have any advertised products. It appears that they could only get work through word of mouth and personal connections... My company would have an updated website with a possible estore and be present on currently existing platforms such as Amazon. It may also be involved in advertising campaigns. Our companies are based in two different USA states. Consumer Base: I imagine their consumer base is limited to word of mouth clients and geographically close clients. The said clients sound like they would almost exclusively be other corporations. My company's consumer base would be individual consumers all over the USA. So given that they really don't have a presence (but have had the trademark since 2013), any advertised physical products, or a listed industry that competes with mine, do I have a shot at a trademark for this considering the name issue? I have thought of personally contacting them directly but my legalese isn't that great and I'm afraid as people might defend any hill even if it technically isn't theirs... They don't have an advertised email so it would be over the phone or through their website's "contact us" box. I rather just silently do another name than get someone's feathers all ruffled. Home for adults with disabilities Posted: 04 May 2021 11:39 PM PDT Hello, I have a friend whose mother owns about 20 of these homes for adults with disabilities. I remodeled a bathroom at one once so I got to see what it was like. Seemed like a lot of "constructive" activities, art projects/crafts, music day (sitting in a room listening to nsync cds from goodwill) etc. from what I understand it operates from the house taking the patients social security money, they feed/clothe/house them and keep the rest, and staff if with 4-5 entry level medical student caretakers for very cheap wages to take care of the residents. I had a friend who had a job at one of these homes. He said the residents liked him the best, because he was like a friend to them when the medical students acted like nurses or teachers. He would take them out around town and stuff like that. Most of them were not interested in the activities and would have preferred to sit around and watch tv and game, the residents at this particular home were mainly people in their 30s and 40s with mild Down syndrome. So I had this idea to open a home like this, instead of forcing these people to do stupid art projects and staffing it with people they don't even like I'd make it interesting. I'd introduce them to a great passion of mine, retro gaming. Our days would be spent having smash bro's tournaments and quake LAN parties. I'd get multiple TVs in the living room to get this up and running so everyone could be included. In our down time we'd watch movies, and I'd take them on field trips once every other month or so to the movie theater, arcade, or shopping mall. Honestly to me this sounds like the life. At night I'd have the same type of medical students/caretakers as staff. Does anybody have experience with this? What type of licensing would I need to make this all legit and legal and is their anything illegal about this? To me it sounds like a good way to give these people a slightly more exciting life than most of these homes would and have a relaxing chill life playing video games all day for me. How does acquiring a commercial real estate loan work? Posted: 04 May 2021 11:08 AM PDT How do I find a lender? What kind of documentation do I need? For a little background. My husband worked for years at a small service business - just him and the owner. We moved and my husband took a job that utilizes his degree. Owner was thinking of retiring and we were talking about buying the business from him. Unfortunately, the owner died unexpectedly. My husband tried to reach out to his widow without luck, so we thought it was a lost cause. The building is now for sale, and my husband reached out to inquire and his widow is also willing to sell the inventory. So, we are now looking at buying the building and inventory but starting up a new business. We aren't really sure where to start with making this purchase, but we will need a loan. What are the next steps? [link] [comments] |

What PoS should I use for my sole proprietor business? Posted: 04 May 2021 10:52 PM PDT Hi, I have a business that it is not official, I just mow lawns and stuff. I want to start accepting cards and I do not know which to use. I do not want to pay for an arm and a leg for point of service but if I pay $30 once and it is the best thing ever, I would pay. I would pay for the swiper thing. Obviously I have to pay per swipe. 1) I can charge with just the costumer giving their card info, so press it in 2) I can swipe with headphone jack insert 3) Works all the time and no hardships I get that a lot of these companies need a Business register thing with the government so I want one that does not need all that. I am a legal citizen and pay taxes, I just don't want to have to register my business and fill out the forms. I just want one that works well all the time. If this is not the right subreddit for this, [link] [comments] |

What do I need to know about landscaping??? Posted: 04 May 2021 06:43 PM PDT I wanted to start I heard it makes good money I also know I can make my own schedule if I work for myself so my real question is what do I need to know to keep evolving in my business [link] [comments] |
Restaurant revitalization program ( Business debt service) Posted: 04 May 2021 06:21 PM PDT I have asked 4 reps at the SBAs RRF number if payments made to a business CC should be added to expenses for the year. 3 stright out said yes and 1 was reading what is posted on the Q&A.. The problem we have with this is if we charged something and that expense is on our schedule C for 2020, then we made a payment on that expense ,how can we then use the payment as another expense? When I look up Business debt service, it makes reference to a fixed debt payment- LOC or Business loan. But since a CC isn't fixed, seems like it can't be included. However I've been told we can add that to eligible expenses since eligible use of the funds is the same as eligible expense.. Has anyone applied yet or have some feedback on this ? Thanks Stay safe [link] [comments] |
At what point did you hire your 1st full time employee? Posted: 04 May 2021 08:01 AM PDT Hi! I am a small agency owner. I started off as a freelancer but from there, I got more clients and found myself hiring part-time assistants to help me. 12 months after my first hire, my team is now at 14! But all of them are part-time and only get paid by the hour. So my question is... do you think I should now hire a full time employee? Thinking of letting go 2-3 part-timers with this move. To be honest, it's hard to manage a lot of people now as I need to adjust to their personal schedules as well... But I'm also thinking hiring a full time employee entails additional costs and it is also a commitment! What is your advice on this? For anyone who started alone in building a business, when did you hire your first full-time employee and at what point in the business? [link] [comments] |
