    Insurance adjuster told restoration company not to tear up our floor, but insurance said to tear it out?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 02:41 PM PDT

    We had a pinhole leak in our main incoming line. It was caught within 24 or so hours. Insurance company sent restoration company with fans and dehumidifiers. Today their outside adjuster came by to see the floor. He told my girlfriend that we shouldn't let the restoration company pull the floor. Insurance company said for the restoration company to pull the floor. I cannot fathom why he'd recommend not listening to them.

    Guy had no moisture meter, water is literally seeping from under the floor. He said we could do a sand and finish. It is a glue down engineered floor and that is not true. There is engineered floors that are out there that are capable of sanding, but this isn't one, and definitely not possible with the amount of water.

    I have little faith in this person whatsoever, I've been dealing with flooring for years.

    FedEx hit and run me! Need advice

    Posted: 04 May 2021 06:18 PM PDT

    Ok quick background: - my car is registered in WA and my insurance is also in Washington - moved to NYC 9 months ago didn't switch my insurance or register my car (I know - very dumb) - today, a bus was double parked on my block in Brooklyn and a FedEx truck tried to get by - I was working from home and had the window open and was watching - I heard the FedEx truck swipe my car and saw it drive off - I was mid-meeting and had to sign out and tried to run after the truck. By the time I got outside and tried to give chase, the FedEx truck had hit 5 greens and was long gone. So, no license plate, no proof, nothing - I have all of the proper insurance coverages so under normal circumstances, I imagine it would be covered

    Question is- should I file a claim with my auto insurance (ESURANCE)??

    I am worried it's going to be a long and frustrating road, especially since my car and insurance are in Washington. I have no proof of the hit and run. I took a photo of the damage only - damage isn't too bad. It scratched the plastic strip that protects the wheel, but also the part of the car along the side of the car, right above the wheel (kind of looks like the part of the "bumper," but I'm unsure - I am no expert).

    I am also worried about rate increases. I have had minor accidents before but never filed a claim because of this fear.

    The damage isn't crazy but I'm sure they may have to replace this whole piece and it's going to be pricy. Is it worth trying to file a claim?

    HMO or PPO

    Posted: 05 May 2021 12:26 AM PDT

    So I'm in need of some serious dental work. Many fillings, crowns and just general tooth restoration. Currently on my parents dental insurance (Humana; HMO) which literally does not cover any percentage of root canals or crowns. I had to dish out $2000 for one recently and can't afford to keep that up. I'm looking to get my own individual plan, but don't really get what the benefit of a PPO is versus an HMO. To me, a PPO costs more a month and covers less - all for the price of having a vast dental network? For example, I'm looking into Delta Dental versus DeltaCare USA. The Delta Dental PPO costs almost $70 a month with limited immediate coverage, only covering half or up to 70% of major procedures. On the flip side, DeltaCare USA costs $9 a month and brings down root canals to 250-350, crowns to 275-375 and fillings to 15-60. Although it still is expensive copays, there is not yearly maximum and has immediate coverage on everything. Although I only have a limited dental network, there's still 16 dentists covered in my town alone under DeltaCare (of which mine is included). Am I missing something? Is the quality of an HMO that much worse? Or is it just my situation fits having an HMO for now? Really not sure, any knowledge would be appreciated (:

    For reference, I live in California.

    Wedding insurance claim denied (IL)

    Posted: 04 May 2021 08:39 AM PDT

    Hello!

    I'm getting married in a couple months. When we first booked our venue, we purchased wedding insurance and purchased additional coverage for loss of deposits. The policy is as follows:

    1. Loss Of Deposits Coverage

    You and the Honoree have this coverage only if a limit of insurance is shown for it on the Declarations page. We cover the deposits you or the Honoree have paid in connection with the Private Event if they become non-refundable as a direct result of anyone hired to provide goods or services for the Private Event going out of business prior to the Private Event date.

    a. What We Will Pay Under Loss Of Deposits Coverage We will pay, up to the limit of insurance, the following deposits you or the Honoree have paid in connection with the Private Event which you or the Honoree cannot have refunded by anyone hired to provide goods or services:

    (01) deposits required to rent the premises where the Private Event was to be held;

    (02) deposits required for transportation such as limousines and air fares in connection with the Private Event;

    (03) deposits required for Professional catering services;

    (04) deposits required for hotel accommodations in connection with the Private Event;

    (05) deposits required for the Professional photographer, Professional videographer, Professional musicians or other Professional entertainment and Professional florist in connection with the Private Event;

    (06) deposits required for Rented Property;

    (07) deposits required for the Professional dressmaker, Professional tailor and deposits required to rent Special Attire;

    (08) deposits required for Jewelry;

    (09)if the Private Event is a wedding, deposits required for transportation including airfares, hotel accommodations and cruise ship accommodations in connection with the honeymoon.

    b. Exclusions-What We Do Not Cover Under Loss Of Deposits Coverage

    (01) Cancellation Or Postponement We do not cover the loss of deposits which are covered under or which have been paid under Section I A. 01. Cancellation Or Postponement Coverage.

    (02) Gifts We do not cover the loss of deposits for Gifts if any claim has been or will be made under Section I A. 04. Gifts Coverage.

    (03) Jewelry We do not cover the loss of deposits for Jewelry if any claim has been or will be made under Section I A. 07. Jewelry Coverage.

    (04) Nuclear Action Or War We do not cover the loss of deposits caused by Nuclear Action or War.

    (05) Photographs And Video Recording We do not cover the loss of deposits for the Professional photographer or the Professional videographer if any claim has been or will be made under Section I A. 03. Photographs And Video Recording Coverage.

    (06) Rented Property We do not cover the loss of deposits for Rented Property if any claim has been or will be made under Section I A. 05. Rented Property Coverage.

    (07) Special Attire We do not cover the loss of deposits for Special Attire if any claim has been or will be made under Section I A. 06. Special Attire Coverage.

    The bakery that we paid a deposit to for our wedding cake went out of business and I thought we'd be covered because 1. The policy says "anyone hired to provide goods or services" . 2. The bakery could be considered a catering vendor (what constitutes a catering vendor is not defined anywhere in the policy) and 3. Bakeries are not listed anywhere in the exclusions. But the insurance company has come back and denied the claim saying that deposit isn't covered.

    Am I completely off-base here or do I have grounds to escalate this with the insurance company? Frankly it's not a lot of money at all and it wouldn't make a huge difference in our budget but it's the principle of the matter to me.

    Thank you in advance!

    Paranoid when I should not be

    Posted: 04 May 2021 09:49 PM PDT

    I was in a single car accident a few days ago involving a trash can. Tomorrow is my inspection and I'm paranoid my insurance is going to pull a fast one and find a way to deny my claim even though I'm using my collision coverage.

    Can someone please tell me how this process goes as I'm very confused on what to expect

    What would disqualify me from coverage

    Had a second floor leak that poured down into my first floor kitchen. Most in this sub say to avoid a PA. In that case, what should I do to ensure all damage is identified, accounted for, and paid out?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 09:30 PM PDT

    There is probably way more water damage than is visible to the naked eye. Without opening up the first floor ceiling, opening the up the walls, remove flooring, how can I ensure that all water damage is accounted for? Is it even worth bringing out a contractor to do his own assessment? I can't imagine he'd be able to do his job without opening up the ceilings/walls/floors himself (which I don't think he should do while in the middle of a claims process)

    sorry for rambling. overwhelmed and untrusting of insurance companies in general

    Can an insurance company automatically renew your contract?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 09:10 PM PDT

    I got a message from my auto insurance company that my policy was expiring, so I switched companies to get a better rate.

    2 days after my contract closed I was billed by my old company, who automatically renewed my contract that I thought was expired since I signed up for a 1 year contract.

    I called and was told to jump through a bunch of hoops because I was on auto-pay so apparently that's also auto renew.

    Can I just tell them to fuck off or do I actually have to deal with this like an adult?

    Agent vs the carrier

    Posted: 04 May 2021 08:34 PM PDT

    Home and Auto coverage:

    Considering you are with an A-rated carrier, what is more important in the claim process? The agent or the insurance company.

    Are bad reviews about insurance companies more toward the lack of involvement with the agent, or do they not make enough of a difference when battling claims?

    Thoughts?

    personal injury lawyers?what does "settlement" actually look like?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 04:44 PM PDT

    personal injury lawyers -- what does settlement actually look like? do you do any "closing" or "wheeling and dealing" like we see in tv shows about lawyers?

    do you make phone calls? Who do you talk to? where does it occurs?

    Or do you just email your clients medical bills over and submit a number and that's that?

    Will I never be able to get disability insurance again in my life?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 08:20 PM PDT

    29 years old, had a mild stroke at the beginning of February after going to the chiropractor (turns out i have a congenital artery condition that I wasn't aware of), but i'm otherwise super healthy, healthy weight, healthy cholesterol, all other blood levels normal. I'm in open enrollment for insurance with my work right now, but decided to look into short-term disability rates with State Farm because I have them for auto. Their rates WERE better, however, i don't qualify because I have a pre-existing condition. My agent said that I may never qualify for disabilitt insurance through a private company and may only qualify through my work. The plans through my work aren't the best... so I was wondering- has anyone every been successful in getting private disability insurance with a pre-existing condition? Any tips or information is welcome.

    Posted: 04 May 2021 07:01 PM PDT

    I currently have Farmers for my auto insurance and with them I've bodily injury liability 15k each person, 30k each accident. Property damage liability is 10k. Uninsured motorist bodily 15k & injury 30k each accident. I've towing road service too and got 6 months my total is $504.38

    I want to switch with progressive and I want to get better coverage. My total monthly price with them is $105.74

    I've liability(BI/PD) 100k/300k/100k Uninsured/ underinsured motorist BI 100k/300k Comprehensive and collision with 500 deductible too.

    I do think that I might not need all of that specially since I'm driving an old car. At the same time I also want to be safe than sorry and the difference in prove is not extremely high. What do you guys think?

    50% auto premium increase for changing address

    Posted: 04 May 2021 06:35 PM PDT

    I just processes an address change with Geico. I moved approximately 8 miles within the same county. Prior to the address change i was paying $844 annually. My annual premium was increased to $1264 due to the address change. Geico reasoning, i am in a location with higher risk drivers and that affects my insurance premium. I am in NY.

    I reached out to two different companies for comparable quotes but they were within the same range.

    Is this standard practice with auto insurance?

    Storage vs. Liability

    Posted: 04 May 2021 06:03 PM PDT

    Currently I have liability insurance on a car I haven't driven in about a year (was doing work on it when it was a daily; registered as PNO since I'm not sure when I'll be done with the work and registration expired). I had liability on it when I was driving it, but now since it's being stored do I need to change my policy or keep as is? Also, is there anything illegal about keeping it as liability instead of changing it?

    Car repairs

    Posted: 04 May 2021 05:54 PM PDT

    I recently purchased a new car and got in my first accident a week later. It has been two weeks now and the shop that esurance had it towed to hasn't even evaluated the repair cost to decide if it's a total loss.

    Is they're a requirement to get this resolved in a certain amount of time or can the process take as long as they feel like ? I've never dealt with this before but it seems absurd that nothing is being done

    Will an at fault drivers insurance pay for my whole rental car, or just what is covered on MY policy?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 02:07 PM PDT

    Someone hit me in an intersection, my insurance company talked to theirs and all agreed the other person was at fault. They are just waiting on some paperwork. I need a rental car, and want it paid for through the other persons insurance. It's going to cost $125/day because of my age (22). On my policy through my insurance, I have $50/day, $1500 max rental car insurance.

    My question is, will the other persons insurance company reimburse me for the full cost of my rental, or just match what is covered on my policy?

    fathers life insurance policy help

    Posted: 04 May 2021 08:42 AM PDT

    (takes place in Florida) hi guys! i've been struggling with an issue for about 6 months now. i've reached out to lawyers and no one can seem to help me. i am now 23 yrs old and have just discovered that my father who passed away when i was 14 may have had a life insurance policy (i was young, i had no idea about how any of this works/nor was approached by anyone about this) and if that is the case then my stepmother (evil/estranged) fought for it and received the whole amount for her and her two daughters (which would honestly explain their lavish way of living). While i am 100% sure as my fathers first born (i was close with him) i would have been on that insurance policy and should have received something out of it. i am usually not a person who cares about money at all really, but as someone who has never had any financial help at all and have worked 3 jobs at a time since i was young and paid my way through college myself/am in so much debt.. i have come to the decision that if a case could be made, this money would truly change my life. unfortunately i have been shunned by my dads whole side of the family so no one can give me further information. i have tried to contact his only buisness where his policy wouldve been through but they were bought out by a bigger company that has told me they have no information. any advice/guidance would be appreciated as the time to fight for the policy would almost be up since this September it will have been 10 years since his death. thank you all for your time!

    Is it normal that I'm getting car insurnace rates that are 300-600 a month?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 04:25 PM PDT

    I live in Denver, CO. I've been in one at fault accident and have one speeding ticket that was changed to a moving violation or whatever its called. I'm trying to get quotes on my new 2022 subaru forester and I'm getting some crazy numbers. Like 300-600 a month!!! What is going on? It may be helpful to add that my new car has minor damage (all cosmetic) that may be causing the higher rate?
