Posted: 11 May 2021 11:30 AM PDT I'm going to make this short, because I have to apply all of the advice that was given in my last post to my business model and pricing structure and even my goddamn method of... everything. I posted a question that spelled out some details of my business model, and had a couple questions about how to price my services. I never expected the amount, and quality of the responses the people of this sub gave me. Some of them were hard to swallow, some made me really proud to be owning and creating this business. You guys put my head on straight, and got me looking at the specific aspects of my business model that need overhaul for my company to gain any traction whatsoever. Some of the advice was so specific and valuable, I would have absolutely paid to hear it. But you gave it to a stranger for free. Not many business owners like to throw out valuable advice to just anyone, especially on the internet. In the start-up world, even for a small business, it is terrifying asking for advice. There are people out there who's sole purpose is to give you the wrong advice to watch you fail. Then there are people who just like to tell you your business idea is stupid, you are stupid, and you're wasting everyone's time. I received not an ounce of that type of attitude, and I just wanted to reach out and let you guys know that it means a great deal to me that those who commented put in the effort to help out a 26 year old girl with an idea, and a load of passion, put her small business on some more stable foundation. You's are good people. Now, I have some serious work to do. <3 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 May 2021 10:00 PM PDT So I'm a personal curator that physically archives photographs and heirlooms, and also digitizes photographs through an archival scanner. All of my competitors (who do the whole thing with tons of manpower, automated machines, etc) charge $0.20 per 4x6 or smaller photograph. They can do this because it takes them 4 seconds to shove a stack of photos in a scanner and walk away, and then let custom software straighten and rotate it. So they can breeze through 200 photographs with the click of a button and about 10 minutes and make $40. I do it in a much more diligent fashion. Every batch of photos I receive goes through an 'Intake Process'. Where I photograph the fronts and backs of every photo. Then I do a write-up of each items condition/damage as seen upon arrival. This seems absolutely bonkers for some people, but it covers my ass, and assures my clients that I'm taking every single step possible to make sure that their memories are taken care of and handled like the friggin' declaration of independence. I have to clean my flatbed after every scan, orient the photos just right, do a preview scan, balance out the RGB, and then wait 3 minutes for it to scan at archival quality. Then I have to manually separate each batch into singular image files, crop, and rotate them. By myself. Since this takes a crazy amount of time, I'm charging $0.40 per 4x6 or smaller. 200 photographs would take me about 2 days of work from start to finish. That's $80. I'll be right back, i'm going to scream. So yeah, $80 for 2 full days of report writing, photographing, scanning, and post processing. So I decided to add a $40 service fee. Which is STILL not enough money to appease my landlord. When I created the service fee, and first mentioned it to a client, he laughed at me and said 'service fee? Then what am I paying the price per photo for? Come on!" :( I'm in the super duper fetus baby phase of developing this business, and I need to get my prices down. And down FAST. Because apparently my little start-up is getting some REAL traction in my town. Does anyone have any insight on this? Because the variety of my services are actually extremely extensive and the prices vary widely. Edit: Hey, folks! I'm going to start working on tiers for the business instead of doing prices per photograph. Try to sell civics to civic lovers, and lambos to lambo lovers. I'm really lucky that my business has the opportunity to vary so widely in terms of audience. I'm very, very glad I reached out to you kind people. And I got some absolutely wonderful advice that I think is going to really boost my clientele. I won't ever stop doing what I love less than 200% effort, but I think I can scale back on going balls to the wall to people who don't necessarily appreciate it all too much. It's all about that balance. Fixing the prices, fixing the structure, but still keeping my passion and drive for creating a truly quality service alive and kickin'. [link] [comments] |
Is it worth leaving family and friends to pursue a startup? Posted: 11 May 2021 06:45 AM PDT I've been dreaming about running a software company since my teen years. I might have to leave my country and travel to the US if I'm to succeed. So is it worth leaving family/friends to chase your dreams? I'm afraid I will regret not doing it later in life if I don't take the chance now. [link] [comments] |
I Launched An SEO Content Service That Includes Video Posted: 11 May 2021 11:11 AM PDT My pricing packages have been really complicated, to say the least. I have tried to create a lot of value for both writers and clients that need content, but the result has been a sort of confusing mess to explain. So I decided to simply our services in a way that will benefit folks who need SEO-optimized content, based on the weekly publication schedule they can afford. I would LOVE to know what you guys think: https://www.wordsrweapons.com/seocontentservices This is REALLY important to me, because in 10 years this is my first marketing campaign for my services/business. Everything I've done before this has been based on word-of-mouth advertising because while content is pretty easy, tech has been difficult to say the least. And I have even less talent for visual presentation (as that page I linked to is evidence of). I also REALLY need this to work. I have been 3 or 4 clients away from being able to REALLY improve what we offer for years now, but every time I have gotten within spitting distance, I've gotten hammered by Murphy's Law. Clients going bankrupt and stiffing me, key employees dying on while I was getting married, attempts at diving into technical integration that cost me a ton of money while leaving me with nothing to show for it. And the entire time I've only had a handful of clients referring us 1 or 2 new clients a year as we also lose 1 or 2 new clients each year because they can't afford our services or they simply stop investing in SEO (and thus they no longer need fresh content). This year, I was going to have a designer and tech put all this together, took out a loan to pay for it all, and then COVID struck. Had two of my biggest clients lose a bunch of clients themselves, which hurt our revenue, and the loan I took out wound up going to payroll. So I ducked taped this pitch together myself, have pinched pennies to get it up and in front of people, and now I just need to make it prettier. But I'm nervous because... well... I've got a lot riding on this. My wife and I want to get pregnant, buy our own home, and so I need some new clients ASAP so that she can take a break from her own work. And I need to do that as fast as possible. So any help or advice you can offer that will help me sell like 4 of these packages ASAP would be tremendous. It would literally be life-changing for me at this point because it would mean that I had extra revenue to hire a designer, as well as begin to raise the rates I pay my writers so we can afford even better people than we currently have (and I am very proud of the super stars I have on my team!). Posted: 11 May 2021 10:36 AM PDT So I have an idea for a vending machine that dispenses first aid kits. My target market ideally is amusement parks and other public places that people might need these. So far I have an LLC, I have a website, and insurance things of that nature. Now what's my next move? I don't have any money to build a prototype yet. Should I raise money for the prototype? Thanks in advanced guys. [link] [comments] |
Need advice for branding of my startup. Posted: 11 May 2021 03:15 AM PDT Student, aviation nut. Project (startup) dealing with commercial aviation. Coming from a country with no aviation background. The venture has not yet secured funding, and doesn't even have a face(branding). As a result, I lack funding to approach some graphic designers who ask at minimum $10k for branding, which I obviously do not have. When I started with this idea, I focused only on the technical aspects of this whole thing. Completely overlooked the need for a logo or even a name. Now one cannot approach an investor without the whole thing figured out, with investors in my country being specifically reluctant ones (iykwim) which is why first impressions matter. Any tips/advice whatever to work around this problem? Maybe if someone tells me how to approach this process, I might do it myself? [link] [comments] |
Some day I want to be self employed doing something I love, but need advice. Posted: 11 May 2021 03:41 AM PDT I have an idea for a small business selling art that I make and am interested in any advice for starting up a business. My goal is to be able to live comfortably while being 100% self employed but I'm not sure how to start/ get my name out there. I'm also wondering if I'll even be able to make a living on art. Kinda lost, any advice is appreciated. Also open to more questions and or dms. [link] [comments] |

Do you recommend Legal zoom, Incfile, Zen business or other option for forming LLC in the US? Posted: 11 May 2021 12:29 AM PDT Hello, I'm an American currently living outside the US who wants to form an LLC in the US. I heard that because I don't have a physical address in the US I need a registered agent. I believe some of the options listed in the title can be a registered agent for me. Do any of you have experience with any of these companies? If so, would you recommend them? Are there better options for forming an LLC? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
2 versions of a product but only enough funds to manufacturer 1 Posted: 11 May 2021 01:08 PM PDT Hello Fellow Entrepreneurs, Need to pick your brain with my dilemma. I've created a product the I plan to launch on Kickstarter later this year. Without going into detail of the product, I have 2 versions of it. Each has its own advantage/disadvantage. Some may prefer benefits of version A and some might prefer version B. It's impossible to combine them together. I've spoken with some close family members that I trust and there was no clear winner between the two versions. My thought is that I can post both versions on Kickstarter and see which one gets the most preorders. This should give me a clear winner. Problem is, then anyone that ordered the losing version I would need to refund their money if I'm not making it. I can't afford to make both as molds are expensive. But I also don't want to miss out on the revenue from the losing version. Any thoughts on the best way to go about this? [link] [comments] |

What does the world still need? Posted: 10 May 2021 09:53 PM PDT I've been wrecking my brain on how to create a "side hustle" but I think I'm so focused on making money I can't focus on finding what I like to do and figuring out how to monetize. I've had a couple at this point from a POD tshirt shop to a social media manager gig. Neither of which I enjoyed enough to stick with. I said a lot to say any help on figuring out what the world still needs?! #IndecisiveEntreprenuer [link] [comments] |

Trying to build a fake app/website. Posted: 11 May 2021 06:26 AM PDT Good morning Reddit, I'm trying to build a fake prototype to demonstrate what the final product of a project might look like. This would potentially be used to show developers or investors. Ultimately, I would like it to work in its own closed environment. It's been some years since my first HTML class but essentially we did just that, we made fake websites about stuff we were interested in and you were able to click through to the different pages. I was wondering if anyone knew of an easy to use program that replaced the need for code; that would enable me to accomplish this. I've tried doing this with wix and a few other basic website creator tools but I imagine in 2021 there is a better tool for the job. Thanks in advance, [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 May 2021 02:48 AM PDT So I'm building something like couchsurfing right? (But not exactly) Before I go on, can we agree that CS is popular, and has thousands if not millions of users worldwide? Okay, my issue is, everytime I present the idea, the objection is always, without fail: "What!! Let someone into my house!? So they can steal my stuff and rape and murder me???" I don't understand, how's that different from CS ? or Airbnb? Heck...Facebook market even? At least what I'm building has verified users, rating and reviews..(unlike the latter) Had the objection been: "well that just seems like a CS clone" then sure, fair enough, but it's ALWAYS the same comment about safety. What am I missing? [link] [comments] |
Entrepreneur brainstorming group Posted: 11 May 2021 04:32 AM PDT Hey redittors hole you are all doing well! I've been wanting for a while now to create some sort of an entrepreneur chatroom/voicerooms where we can all help each other grow, work together and brainstorm ideas with each other. Main problem I had in mind was that some may try to sell courses and services to others. Hence I want to make this a hand picked community with a VERY strict set of rules. That way we can ensure a good educational and a buisness environment. Connections is one of the most important things in buisness aswell as this place will be for all sides of the entrepreneurial community. From online to physical buisnesses. I'd love to hear your guys thoughts about it. Much love. Update: Server is up and you can find it here: server link <3 [link] [comments] |

What degree to study for entrepreneurship? Posted: 11 May 2021 07:22 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm currently in my first year of undergrad studies in computer science and physics. My goal is to create tech startups in the future, like Elon Musk. I chose my current degrees because I think it covers both the software (CS) and hardware (Physics) aspects of any startup ideas that come to mind. Am I correct to think this way? To what extent would a business-related degree be helpful? Does tertiary education even matter for entrepreneurship? Thanks everyone in advance :D [link] [comments] |
Ex kitchen & window sales/entreprenuer transitioning to SAAS JOB Posted: 11 May 2021 02:48 AM PDT Hello my fellow entreprenuers! Long time lurker first time poster. I hope you all are absolutely smashing it out there and living your best life! I'll get straight into it. I am an ex AND CURRENT home improvements/renovation business owner with a little over 10 years of experience under my belt. I have owned 2 bespoke kitchen cabinetry/furniture businesses in the past (America & Romania) and currently own a double glazing (PVC window & door) business (in England) that has stopped trading since March of 2020 due to the pandemic. I realised that running a business is not something I want to do for the time being. Without going too much into detail I can say that I would rather be a sales rep/closer for the next 5-10 years and get my life straightened out before even attempting to start another business ( if that's even something I might want to do in the future). I WANT TO TRANSITION INTO SAAS/TECH SALES VERY BADLY. IT, tech, and cyber security is something that I am very much fascinated with and have followed all throughout my life. I am asking for advice on my CV. I realise that I will need to tailor my CV to that of a SAAS AE. At first I was tailoring my CV for a management type role. I am asking very kindly on some advice tailoring my CV to land a SAAS AE role here in England. I don't have experience in enterprise/consensus/group selling but I know I can sell/close. MY CV : imgur.com/ePoA6UM You might recognize on my CV that I am "currently" employed for a PLC company in England which is not true. I started selling double glazing for them as a self-employed sales rep and then opened my own double glazing firm only a year later. The only reason I have done this is that I thought it might benefit me being employed rather than self-employed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I am very set on getting a SAAS Account Executive position here in England. At the very least maybe an SDR (BDM) position so I can work my way up to an AE role. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 May 2021 09:53 AM PDT 2 dispensaries & 10,000 sq/ft cultivation facility on 4 acres. Room to grow. All licensed & producing. Multimillion dollar revenue per year. Been operating since 2018. We are very competitive & known in Oklahoma. We have clear path plans for growth & completing our build out of the rest of the cultivation facility, along with a few more dispensaries. We need capital to better market ourselves, and branding. Branding is super important in this industry & we put our money in growth early on, before the well branded companies arrived. Now we are ready to build off of that growth with excellent marketing & branding campaign. DM if interested. NDA & NON COMPETE MUST BE SIGNED IN ORDER TO DISCUSS DETAILS. Instagram accounts upon request. PS - I also own vapor shops since 2012 & have 9+ years of operating experience in that field as well. [link] [comments] |
