Just Found out the home I'm living in is uninsured HELP! Posted: 09 May 2021 10:59 PM PDT Hi everybody, I really hope someone can give me some advice here. I've just found out that my SO, who owns the home I'm living in, has been going without insurance. I honestly have no real clue why they didn't do something about this earlier, because for the love of god, we can afford homeowners insurance. Anyway, I'm concerned that we try to insure the home now, the fact that it hasn't been will be an issue. There has to be some way to fix this, because I will never sleep through an electrical/wind storm or tornado warning again if I can't set this straight. Thanks guys [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 May 2021 03:34 AM PDT Hi everyone I scratched someone's car in a car park last year in my first time driver in a multistory car park drama :(. I called up my insurance company before I had spoken to owner of the car - a mistake in my naivity. The owner of the car was really nice and happy to not make a claim so we sorted it out between us. No claim was made but my insurance company do know it happened as I called. So my question is does this count as a claim? Should my no claims be affected? They have increased my insurance saying I have made a claim... Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 May 2021 02:53 AM PDT If i had an accident and made a claim, but the third party was at fault and my insurance got the money back from the third partys insurance. I know my no claims bonus wont be affected but would i still earn a no claims bonus from the year of the accident seeing as its not a claim on my policy? [link] [comments] |

Geico Auto Limits Increase Question Posted: 10 May 2021 01:50 AM PDT Hi all! I was trying to increase my coverage limits this evening, and received the following reply from Geico - link. "Why do you need this amount of coverage" I was curious if there's an expected response to the highlighted question, or why they're even asking it. Am I not allowed to ask for something like this, or is there a reason I wouldn't want to? Thanks! Edit: personal vehicle (X5), state is PA, not used for any business activities or rideshare; updated post for clarity [link] [comments] |
Arborist Hit My Home- Structural Damage Posted: 09 May 2021 05:54 PM PDT Two weeks before putting my house on the market I hired an arborist to take down a limb that had fallen and gotten caught on another mature tree nearby in my backyard. After he spent an extremely long time (6 hours) trying to get a limb down, he ended up hitting my house and causing structural damage to a three season room out back. Neighbors helped tack up the hole with a tarp and nails, and the arborist said he'd be back the next day to go over insurance info and options. He came back today and said he'd like to fix it himself, that his insurance expired two months ago. He seems to have a lot of red flags, and I said that I'd like to talk with my insurance first. My neighbor was with me since I live alone and can be a bit of a pushover, and he started arguing rather immaturely with my neighbor about who wanted what and why he (my neighbor) would root for the insurance companies when the arborist could fix it himself. Please tell me my State Farm home insurance will take care of this somehow. I have no idea what to do and it feels like an absolute nightmare. [link] [comments] |
In PA: So....I need advice about this PENNDOT/Insurance issue... Posted: 10 May 2021 01:14 AM PDT So I'm not exactly sure why this happened…So back in August 2020 I had bought a 2020 Kia Sportage. Pretty much, I bought the car during like the last two days of August and I needed my own auto insurance policy quickly. Geico approved me the quickest quickest, but Erie offered me a better rate if I did an "advanced quote" for the next month. So, I had two days of Geico and then I started with Erie—no lapses. PennDOT had sent me a letter shortly after requesting my new insurance, which I did provide. Around like I want to say October, I received a letter in the mail from PennDOT stating that something was invalid or expired and I need to pay $500? I believe it was about my insurance. What happened was that somehow somewhere along the line, my Erie insurance agent had messed up paperwork and had incorrectly documented that I was paying insurance on a 2020 Kia Sportage but it had a completely incorrect VIN number (actually belonging to a 2018 Sportage, which I never owned). I talked to some lady with PENNDOT and she just needed for me to prove that I was paying insurance period, on the wrong vehicle, and this would have all been dismissed due to an insurance error, and that there was no coverage lapse. (I even had to pay the difference for the few months to Erie.) The lady said I didn't need to do anything further since I had emailed her updated insurance card information after I got it fixed with Erie. So today, freaking Mother's Day, I go outside after staying over my boyfriend's house and I see that my car was towed. Yes I was parked illegally* (technically...that is whole other issue I don't want to get into just yet). I was obstructing a entryway to a residence. So the person whose house I was in front of, called the police, and I was ticketed and towed. I found out about 15 minutes after it happened. When I finally tracked down where my car was, the towing company told me that I had to tow it out of the impound because something was wrong with my insurance and my plates have been confiscated by the police… OK? But I just paid my insurance 6 days ago and my insurance is good until July, and I had NEVER missed a payment. So towing company let me leave because I showed them my valid insurance and registration, and said I could go to the police station to ask for my license plate back. Yeah, that was wrong apparently. Cops said shouldn't have been allowed to drive away, and they are refusing to give me my plates back. Now I'm what I am wondering is.... A) Was my car impounded/plates taken because an error of PennDOT? (Calling them today since yesterday was Sunday) B) Or is PennDOT correct on this...because I moved on April 1st, and this happened May 9th, and I forgot to tell Erie that I moved, which resulted in Erie dropping me...? 😓 (but they took my premium out from my bank on May 3rd) *Also, totally fighting the ticket because the cop wrote the incorrect city parking ordinance I was in violation of. I was written up for violation of 541.07 subsection C8 (there is no subsections at all for that ordinance violation),and the correct citation should have been 541.02 subsection C8. And yes, the cop clearly wrote a 7 and not a 2. Look, I'll take that stupid like $60 ticket....but I want to fight to get back my money for that $200something impound fee. What do you guys think is going to happen? I'm so worked up about this that I haven't been able to sleep. I work like a 13 hour shift and I have an important doctor appointment today.... Posted: 09 May 2021 02:36 PM PDT So there are a lot of very narrow hilly roads where I live. Many are just barely big enough for two cars to pass, plus residents will park in the street so it can be difficult to drive through. Plus they're very windy so you don't really see someone coming the other way until they're nearly on top of you. Was driving on one of those roads this week when someone came down the hill very close, so I slightly swerved out of the way. A big tree trunk that was sticking out into the road (yes I know this is a horrible road) hit my car and I dented above the wheel and have scratches along the whole passenger's side. The other driver had already passed me and I didn't realize the damage until I got out of the car and they were long gone (not that it was totally their fault – just a shitty road and shitty situation) I've gotten a couple quotes from auto body shops and the repairs will probably be $800-$1300. My collision deductible is $1000, but I'm worried the insurance company would find me at fault and increase my premium, so I'd ultimately lose money. Is it better to just not report anything to my insurance and pay for the repairs out of pocket, or is there any possibility that insurance will help me out? [link] [comments] |
Question about Group Disability Insurance Posted: 09 May 2021 10:37 PM PDT What is the typical process for an employee in a group policy going on leave? Not considering variants in company policies and procedures for weeks and payment amounts, what would the process be from FMLA through LTD and termination while on LTD? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2021 06:42 PM PDT My FIL was rear-ended about a week ago; he was getting into the farthest left lane to do a U turn (Tucson AZ). He was hit by a four door sedan, was taken to the hospital and he's still in the hospital. He drives a little scooter to get around town and he used to live in a place that had really bad winters. It was his best practice to change the scooter insurance from storage to comprehensive/collision come spring, and back to storage come winter. He's been doing this for years. After this collision he called his insurance agent in the previous city where the bad winters were (he lives in Tucson AZ now) and that agent is saying my FIL never changed it out of the storage policy. The agent is saying they believe their employees and don't believe my FIL called. We're going to check the call log history in my FIL's phone to check when/where/how long the previous contact was for. Who do we contact to challenge this agent? Please help, this is very frustrating. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2021 07:53 AM PDT 3 days ago I was driving home and I was involved in a major accident. The driver going the opposite direction on a 2 lane road lost control around a corner and hit my truck on the driver side (minor damage). After hitting me he had a head-on collision with a tow truck that was behind me. The driver that caused the accident was taken by ambulance from the scene so I was unable to get his info (other than license plate #). My question is should I go ahead and file a claim with my insurance (state farm) and let them hunt down the at fault driver? Or wait and get the other drivers insurance info? My truck is 100% functional. I also have dash footage of the driver hitting me [link] [comments] |
Building Ordinance Endorsement with roof claim, Illinois Posted: 09 May 2021 08:27 PM PDT We had legitimate storm damage to our roof during a storm a few months ago. We had the adjuster out along with a contractor we trust. The adjuster came back with fixing around 30% of the roof, 9 squares of shingles. My local building code changed a couple of years ago and they add:" The maximum size for a roof repair shall be two square.IRC R905 " Should a Building Ordinance Endorsement coverage cover replacing 100% of the roof? We are in the process of filing for this, curious what our odds are. The city building inspector will not allow repair, replacement is our only option. The roof is 20 years old and was maintained by the local contractor. We have been insured with the same company (Country) for 20 years. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Dual Dental Insurance Questions Posted: 09 May 2021 07:43 PM PDT Hi all, I'm in CA if that matters. I have a couple questions about dental insurance that are kind of interconnected. Insurance payment deferral question Posted: 09 May 2021 05:23 PM PDT Hi everyone, To start this off I suffer from bad anxiety. Recently the insurance provider in my Province (Canada) let you defer payments up to 3 months if you're struggling due to COVID 19. I was told by someone I could defer my payments, not thinking it was only for people suffering financially from COVID 19. I do struggle financially, but not from Covid 19. I had no idea it was only for eligible people. I'm scared out of my mind, I've deferred three months of payments. Could I go to jail for this? I literally had no idea it was only for people struggling due to Covid. Please help ease my mind :( [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2021 03:31 PM PDT I parked my vehicle in my assigned parking space registered with the building. Today, I've noticed a huge door ding that was so bad that there was cracking in the metal and slight surface rust (it rained today). The vehicle that was parked next to me clearly has my paint on it and my car has the other car's paint on it. I contacted the building and they have no information on this driver who has been parking here so this person has been parking illegally in this space. Building proceeded with towing this car. The building has no way of contacting the owner since they have no records of that car. I have the license plate number, "Damage to Property" police report (police officer said it's 99% certain that this car did it but can't rule it completely because I don't have a video of a person who did the act), and a bunch of pictures of the damage/other car. What is the best way to proceed with this? Is there a way of finding out the other person's insurance information without making contact with the other person? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2021 02:52 PM PDT The current hail damage from years ago is very light but the car value is low so they said they wouldn't fix it. [link] [comments] |
What happens if an insurance company pays out a claim in error? Posted: 09 May 2021 02:42 PM PDT This sounds like a good problem to have, but it cannot possibly end with the insurance company saying "alright then, I guess we'll leave that there." I had two insurances until 12/31/20, but my primary will not stop paying out the claims. I told my provider not to bill them, but they did, and now this is so hard to update. I don't have a primary and secondary insurance anymore. I only have one. The claim won't be completed until the primary reverses their payment and the secondary pays the whole amount minus the copay. The primary insurance policy even says "no longer effective." I'm so tired of this. It's been going on since February. This is basically a $570 bill that is stuck in limbo. What is likely to happen now? [link] [comments] |
Renters Insurance Options for underwrite issues Posted: 09 May 2021 10:24 AM PDT Hi, I have contacted many insurance companies with no luck so this is my Hail Mary. I am moving into a Public Storage in the property manager apartment and am wanting renters insurance. However, the apartment does not have its own private entrance and has the same address as the business. The insurance companies have told me that 1. I can't get renters insurance because it shares an address and 2. There is no private entrance. We have asked several employees and none of them have renters insurance or their apartment has a private entrance. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to go next or what my options are? I live in Texas. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2021 01:42 PM PDT Hi all. My niece was parking the other day and hit the garage which knocked a couple foundation blocks loose and now prevents the garage door from opening. My question is: will her auto insurance cover any of this or is this strictly to be dealt with by homeowners insurance? [link] [comments] |
Term life insurance, forgot to disclose two minor pre existing conditions Posted: 09 May 2021 09:08 AM PDT I purchased a term life insurance policy in 2019 and forgot to disclose two conditions (polycystic ovary syndrome and kidney stones) that I was diagnosed with in 2009 and 2012, respectively. Now that I have realized I did not disclose these, do I need to call the life insurance company and have it added to my file? PCOS heightens the risk of things like endometrial cancer, diabetes and heart disease and I imagine they would deny my life insurance payout if they discovered I had the diagnosis. Thanks in advance for your advice! Edit: maryland [link] [comments] |
Trying to get myself off of my abusive parents' health insurance. Posted: 09 May 2021 11:06 AM PDT Hi. I'm a 22 (almost 23) year old woman. Both my parents are abusive and manipulative and I recently went homeless because I no long felt safe living with them. Or more accurately, I finally felt unsafe enough to no longer handle living with them. I hadn't actually felt safe with them for years. I'm currently living in a homeless shelter with minimal contact over the phone with my parents. I'm on their health insurance (blue cross and blue shield of North Carolina) and wanting to get off of it as it anchors me to them, and I want them out of my life completely. It's also rendering me unable to receive some services I need. I'm on medicaid, and I am disabled, on SSI disability, and unable to work. My father is the policy holder. My parents won't take me off of their insurance. Please help me figure out how to get myself off of it without their help. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
