Does anybody know why Allstate is so horrible now?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 03:16 PM PDT

I'm asking this question as a casualty claims adjuster for Allstate. I obviously know that we recently had a bunch of layoffs, and there was so much chaos in the aftermath. It seemed like things were on the right path, and seemingly out of nowhere (at least maybe just to me), our processes were again going haywire and we were told we are understaffed for current conditions and a crisis was "declared" as pending started to skyrocket, all while at the same time auto assignments are not being completed, and some just seem to fall through the cracks and never get worked.

Does anybody have any insight into this that maybe goes beyond my limited perspective? Are things like this common in the industry across the board? I feel like maybe I'm just too insulated and my feelings that this seems different are unfounded.

UK Car insurance temporary new driver

    Posted: 07 May 2021 01:43 AM PDT

    Hi

My lad has just passed his test at 19yo. He's going back to Uni soon so doesn't need a car, don't want to buy one and insure him annually yet. But he wants motorway experience and just to keep it going. Looking at daily insurance, but can;t find anyone to insure him. The quotes are good but when I put my car in (3L diesel turbo) online providers won't cover, understandably!
What options do I have for him for short term (day, hour) borrowing of cars, given he can't hire a car yet? Named driver for a year is just extortionate and won't be used for more than a couple of days a year.
    THanks

Got into an accident and hit street sign. Made claim, and now an investigator is calling me.

    Posted: 07 May 2021 12:23 AM PDT

I ran into a sign while driving at night, thinking i had seen something in the road. After i hit it, i didn't feel safe stopping (a woman by herself at night) i drove to where i felt safe, parked the car, and tried to contact non-emergency. I couldn't get through, so i waited til the next morning, and called my agent first thing. Told him the details i remembered, and submitted my claim. Unfortunately, i hadn't noticed that the sign broke a shop window when it fell. I had no idea, so i didn't find out until the shop owner saw it on his cameras and had the police officer contact me. They didn't cite me, just told me to call them to exchange info. My insurance company is now trying to say they have evidence different than my recollection, and are investigating. I told them i hit the sign, i never denied that, or the window. I was startled, and reacted poorly, hitting the sign. They want me to make a SECOND statement. Are they attempting to deny my claim? I'm terrified. I've never been in an accident before. And i took responsibility for both damages. I feel like I'm being gaslit by my own insurance company. I'm so confused as to how to proceed without making a mistake and maybe contradicting myself. I was so traumatized after the accident, my memory is very vague on the whole thing. What is the best course of action to not sound combative?, but still stick up for myself?

Edit for clarity: I reside in Oregon

Are minors allowed to get liability insurance for their businesses?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 08:40 AM PDT

Hey, so I'm in the process of creating a business entity for my car detailing business. I am creating a general partnership because my brother and I are the only ones working and we're technically business partners. Since I am looking to get liability insurance, should I add my dad in as a business partner so he can sign all the papers for insurance, or am I able to get liability insurance? Minors aren't legally bound to contracts so that was what I'm worried about. Thanks in advance

Why does Geico need new policy info to cancel old policy?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 12:00 PM PDT

Recently, after moving to Arizona, my son sold his old car, which was insured by Geico, and bought a new car, which is insured by Progressive. When he called Geico to cancel the policy on the old car, the representative said they could not cancel until he gave them the exact date that the Progressive policy took effect. They are two completely different vehicles. What's that all about?

    Total loss from hail

    Posted: 06 May 2021 12:51 PM PDT

Insurance totalled my car from hail damage. I've never made a claim before so I'm confused as to what happens if I keep it vs if they keep it. This is what they said my 2 options are but I'm confused what are pros and cons of both. I'd be fine with keeping it with a salvaged title but I don't know what the numbers mean.

I owe 6.6k on the car. In Texas.

Insurance company provided me with these 2 options...

Total Loss Payment -3rd Party Non-Owner Retained Finalize Total Loss

    Gross ACV: $7,961.00

Total Amount Due: $7,961.00-if you surrender the vehicle

    OR

Total Loss Payment -3rd Party Owner Retained Finalize Total Loss

    Gross ACV:$7,961.00

    Salvage Value: $2,962.00

Total Amount Due:$4,999.00- if you retain the vehicle

Do I need to let my insurance company know of an at-fault accident?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 08:57 PM PDT

Title. Was involved in an accident where I rear ended someone going around 5-10 mph. Lady stopped at a yield and I assumed she would go because of no oncoming cars, but she didn't. Anyways, the cop took down my insurance, but the lady never asked for it. There were minor damages to both cars (only scratches, no dents). None of this I will take through insurance, as my deductible ($500) will most likely be more than it is to repair it. I'm also a teen driver, and don't want my insurance rates to jack up. Do I need to let my insurance company know of this? What if the lady ends up not even filing a claim? Will they still jack up my rates? I also just filled out a quote with statefarm right before the accident (weirdly enough), as I'm planning on changing my insurance company and putting it in my own name. Do I have to let statefarm know of this accident? I live in New Jersey btw.

On the prowl for a new career path - looking for some pointers/advise

    Posted: 06 May 2021 08:39 PM PDT

Currently, I'm 28 years old and have been selling since my junior year in high school at the age of 16. Saw lots of success throughout. Upon graduation with a double major in Supply Chain/Marketing from a renowned university in Wisconsin, I decide to move back to the windy city. I accepted an offer to sell capital equipment (more specifically, CNC Machines). The line card i had at my disposal was fantastic, Tier 1 machines across the board (vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, 5-axis machines, 3D printers, and Swiss style machines). I stayed in the industry for nearly 5 years. The main issue was the manufacturing industry being a complete roller coaster. The most recent position I had was an Account Executive. My role was to cold call companies that did $15-$20 million in revenue per year. Then Covid decided to come around and became a huge obstacle, especially since I sold high end machines.

I am now aggressively looking for a new sales career path. Ideally, I'd like to sell a well known product/service in the industry. Life insurance is something I'm really considering getting myself into.

Can any of you shed some light, or offer any advice on what industry(s) I should focus on? Thank you in advance!

Is there anyway to get therapy covered under Medicare if the provider does NOT accept insurance?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 08:09 PM PDT

My Mom seeing a therapist that costs about $150 each week. Barely anyone in the area (SoCal) accepts insurance anymore so it's pretty much cash pay for everyone, or at least for the good therapists. She has some specialities too that many people don't offer.

My Mom recently starting using Medicare. She has secondary insurance that picks up whatever Medicare won't pay, but if they don't cover the service, then neither will the secondary. As of right now, Medicare denies all the claims as the provider isn't covered.

Is there any way at all to get some type of reimbursement? Is there some loophole? Is there a way the therapist can 'sign up' with Medicare but not actually participate? My Mom would be the ones submitting the claims, as the therapist would not handle submitting to insurance and payment is due at each session. Not sure if that changes anything.

What about a single case agreement? I have one for myself but it took a lot of effort and I am not sure how Medicare works.

Any advice would be so appreciated! I want to help my Mom so she can overcome her childhood trauma and this is a therapist that really knows how to help her.

Don't agree with insurance decision. What can we do?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 06:12 PM PDT

My wife got in an accident a few weeks ago and both parties have Geico. We have dashcam footage of the accident and submitted to Geico. To our surprise, they decided we are 20% responsible for the accident because the dashcam captured a second of the car illegally turning into our right of way. They said we should have seen the car turning based on the dashcam footage but we find that to be completely unreasonable assumption. Human can not see everything at the same time like a camera.

Our question is besides getting a lawyer and suing, what else can we do to get this decision overturned?

    This happened in Houston, Texas.

    Question roofing claim and dilemma

    Posted: 06 May 2021 04:49 PM PDT

In 2017 we got hit with a hail storm and our roof was completely damage from the storm. At the time the house was owned by my uncle and we rented the house from him. He filed a claim for the damage and the Insurance gave us about $8000 after deductibles for the replacement. Unfortunately at that time also, our central air unit broke and refrigerator at the same time. instead of replacing the roof we took the money to get new unit and Fridge since the adjuster said we can hold out for a few years before the damage will show. I used the money to replace essentials and thinking I can save up and replace the roof.

Fast forward 2021 I took over the mortgage in 2019 and I finally thought I saved enough but apparently It's going to cost me a lot more then I expected. I was estimating 8-10k but apparently it's going to cost me almost 22k out of pocket.

Apparently after talking to the roofing company I should have did the roof at the time because that 8k was just an initial cost and anything after the company could file additional cost for me with the insurance company.

Can I continue on from my uncles claim from 2017 or am I out of luck? 22k is going to hurt bad.

Any advice would be great or perhaps had similar experience.

    Thank you in advance

Single income family and I'm doing my best but this is going to hit me hard.

Claim was approved by adjuster but has it approved by manager???

    Posted: 06 May 2021 10:46 AM PDT

So my claim for a single crash was approved with my adjuster he said everything looks consistent to him. He said that because it's a larger amount it has to be approved by a manager. Tow truck and shop are ready and have room for my car but now this 😢He said he did add a detailed report of why he was moving forward with the claim. Not really looks for advice because I feel like if my adjuster could see and make sense of the situation then so will manager but we'll see.

Just hoping for some positive feedback so I don't lose my mind!

Car liability insurance without social security number?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 11:51 AM PDT

So I've never been issued a social security number (I'm currently in the process of trying to get one, but there's enough red tape to reach to the sun and back) I also need to get insurance and I need to get it ASAP. I don't care about comprehensive, I only care about being legal to drive. Can I get car insurance through any company without a social security number, if so what companies? Thanks!

Is there any risk to submitting a hail damage claim to my homeowners insurance?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 11:44 AM PDT

We're looking at doing a small addition and replacing the roof at the same time. We're still in the planning stages, but the company we settled on (personally recommended, lots of good reviews, been around a long time) said there was "some" damage and it could have reasonably been caused by hail from a storm around 22 months ago. NOAA records show confirmed hail of appropriate size right around 1.5 miles from here. They thought there was a 50/50 shot of the claim being approved if they were present when the inspector was here and that it couldn't hurt to file the claim. The roof is 25-year shingles and (according to the previous owners) now about 15-16 years old.

We changed from Amica to Travelers about 3 months ago, mostly because of the discounted rate bundled with auto through GEICO. Same coverage and deductible. We had been with Amica for almost 5 years.

I know that legally, an insurance company isn't supposed to raise your rates or drop you due to claims, but I find it hard to believe that if a new customer made a claim that made them pay out ($10k?), they'd do it happily. And if they deny it, I feel like I'd be on their "list".

Am I over-reacting? Is there any disadvantage to filing a claim and seeing what happens?

Belongings damaged in Packout process, can these be claimed with insurance?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 03:27 PM PDT

My family home suffered a house fire at the end of March. We're insured with State Farm in New York, and have replacement cost coverage.

My mother is the insured, and signed with one of the firetruck-chasing damage mitigation companies. We brought on a public adjuster that they referred us to - between being overwhelmed with the fire and still coping with my father's death at the end of last year, we thought at the time that it would be the best course of action to have someone to help walk us through the process. (My mother also has some lower-level hoarding tendencies and needed to work on downsizing after my father's death anyway, so the 6% commission he's claiming felt like an acceptable loss.)

The fire started and was contained in her bedroom on the second floor, but a lot of structural water damage occurred from the fire-fighting process so the entire house was deemed unlivable. We're mostly settled into a rental home at this point, and due to some not-entirely-clear communication, we've got maybe half of the salvageable items with us.

We're going through these items because - as stated above - we needed to downsize anyway and my mother felt too overwhelmed to do it during packout. More than a few things that my mother would have wanted to keep were damaged in the packout process - a coffee cup that is completely sealed in bubble wrap in the box has a chunk broken out from the bottom and inside the bowl of the cup, some Corningware casserole dishes got completely broken and so were tossed, things in general weren't very well packed (uncovered/unsheathed knives, sparse usage of bubble wrap & packing paper in boxes, no labels on boxes beyond an occasional "Kitchen," "Basement," etc.) at all.

I've been looking up things afterwards and I realize the packout process for us wasn't very conventional - the damage mitigation company did it, but it was more like "Do you want to keep this? Or is this garbage?" and that determined if it went into a box or was chucked in a garbage bag. Cleaning & deodorizing seemed to be a quick wipe with some spray cleaner, electronics just had a quick plug-in-and-power-on, and most importantly - we didn't get an inventory sheet for anything except the number of boxes and pieces of furniture that did get moved to a storage facility (which was done by a different company than the packers, and the contract there didn't mention any sort of cleaning or restoration).

I know the items themselves likely don't have much actual value, but my mother's also more than a bit of a "get as much value out of everything I can" kind of person. Is it possible to claim these broken items, even though they weren't actually damaged by the fire/fire-fighting process itself? Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Any Short Term Disability Penalties if you Leave a Job before a certain period of time after Maternity Leave?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 02:57 PM PDT

I have Guardian insurance for STD and I recently filed a claim and received compensation for delivering my baby girl. I was wondering if anyone knew if I were to go back to work full time, and then hypothetically leave my job 1-3 months later, if I'd have to pay penalties for leaving early. We are looking to relocate closer to family after having baby girl and would probably do it within that time frame. Just curious to know what we are up against financially speaking.

    Edit: I'm in Oregon.

I purchased a new vehicle outright and did not finance any of it. My insurance company does not offer any type of protection similar to gap insurance. Any options other than getting insurance elsewhere?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 02:22 PM PDT

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, California, United States

I purchased a Tesla Model Y in February and got my insurance through my current carrier AAA. Long story short, for whatever reason, my rates increased significantly with AAA.

I looked for different quotes elsewhere and while they are cheaper overall, the cheapest by a significant margin (and with increased coverage) is Tesla Insurance.

Unfortunately, they don't offer any type of additional protections/options like some other companies do where they either give you a % bonus on top of what your payout would have been (USAA) or coverage for two years that would pay out the original value (AAA).

Is there some sort of supplemental insurance (like Umbrella, perhaps?) that would cover the other losses if my vehicle were to be totaled?

Good agent for disability insurance w/ preexisting conditions?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 01:29 PM PDT

I have a heart condition (MI several years ago) and am 3 years out from kidney cancer treatment, plus a high BMI (43). Age 49.

I would like to get disability insurance. Is it worth going through the online application slog (most likely to just be denied)? In the past I worked with an agent who specialized in high risk life insurance and got a policy that while not cheap, will at least cover me until I croak.

I'm thinking the better option is an agent who specializes in high risk individuals, but I'm leery of insurance agents in general as salespeople who are primarily out for their cut and don't care what happens to you. Recommendations appreciated.
