Dentist and insurance not agreeing on a procedure being necessary enough to be covered, after the fact.

    Posted: 08 May 2021 12:21 PM PDT

After xrays and exam at my dentist they determined I needed a scaling and root planing on 4 teeth. They told me I was covered and I checked my insurance which online shows that procedure is covered. After getting the procedure and paying my portion of the cost I now get a letter in the mail from my insurance saying their reviewing dentist determined the xrays didnt show enough bone loss that would make scaling and root planing necessary and refuse to cover the $1000 bill. As someone who is not qualified to read xrays what am I supposed to do in this situation where one dentist thinks the procedure is needed, the other disagrees and now I am responsible for the bill?

Buying Step Daughter a car and insurance questions

    Posted: 08 May 2021 09:04 PM PDT

My wife and I are considering purchasing a car for her daughter as a graduation / birthday present. Her current car is apparently under her fathers farm policy and is extremely cheap. If we are the lien holders on a new car will she be able to take that car and put it under his policy or will that company balk at that request. Will the lien holder be ok with it being insured on a policy which we do not own? Thanks!

Wife and I are located in CA, step daughter is in MO

    Dental insurance annual maximum reached?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 02:46 AM PDT

Hello, everyone. I'm a 22 year old dependent under my Mother's dental insurance. We have Delta Dental PPO of Washington.

I'm getting braces soon this month. Our individual maximum(to my knowledge) is $2,000 a year. I could be misunderstanding things, I won't have access to the documents until later.

Anyway, I got a braces quota from my Orthodontist and it was $5,000. They checked my insurance and it covered $2,000 of the treatment. So that would be my annual Maximum already reached for the year?

The issue is I have to have 4 premolars removed, along with 4 impacted wisdom teeth by an Oral Surgeon for extreme crowding.

    New driver, car insurance

    Posted: 09 May 2021 12:39 AM PDT

So I live in Maryland. I am newly licensed (4/29/2021), and I am 29 years old (female). I just bought a car and went with progressive insurance. I tried looking for other quotes but Nationwide gave me this response.

"We aren't able to continue with this product because of information we obtained from consumer reporting agencies."

What does this mean exactly? It's only been two days since I signed with progressive. Is it too soon?

CAR INSIRANCE won't cover some of the damage, shop representative agrees with them

    Posted: 08 May 2021 08:46 PM PDT

I was in a rear end collision where my SUV hit another car from behind, the other car was a hatchback.

Prior to the accident the car was in brand new condition not even a scratch. After the accident the lower grill of the SUV was damaged as well a slight noticeable dent on top of the hood from where the rear view camera of the hatchback had landed on after my SUV had basically picked up the hatchback during the event.

Here is my problem, the claim adjustor refuses to include the tip of the dented hood in the repairs. They mention that it was done prior to the accident, which it was not. The body shop representative for this claim agrees with them even after I explained to him how the hatchback was picked up from behind during the rear end collision. I even pointed out in the picture how my car logo has been dented into the trunk of the hatchback. At this point the claim adjuster won't listen to my explanations since the shop person agrees with them. What should I do? they haven't taken my car apart yet since the claim just started a few days ago and are currently making an estimate. Who should I talk to or would it be possible to take my car to another repair shop since this one does not agree with me. However the shop has had my vehicle in their storage since Wednesday (5/5) and will start taking it apart Monday to finish the estimate.

By the way I have full coverage.

Also the car (SUV) has paint protection film which makes it hard to scratch

Is my interpretation of this clause in my homeowners policy documents correct?

    Posted: 08 May 2021 09:18 PM PDT

    The summary of the loss:

    • Had a leak
    • Bamboo kitchen floors ruined. Have the exact same flooring throughout the rest of the first floor.
    • I know that brand new bamboo floors in the kitchen will look slightly different than the rest of the undamaged first floor bamboo, and that deeply concerns me

    My desire:

    • I'd like the insurance company to do what it takes to make sure all of the flooring in my first floor match - there should be no visible difference and it shouldn't be obvious what is new vs old. This was the case before the loss occurred.
    • If resurfacing the old, undamaged bamboo will make it look new just like the actually new bamboo in the kitchen, then great. But I've heard that bamboo is the exception and cannot be resurfaced and refinished like the rest of the wood floors. In this case, I'd desire new flooring throughout the first floor.

    What the policy documents say:

We do not insure for loss caused by

⁃Mismatch of color between undamaged material and new material used to replace old, weathered or oxidized damaged material; or

⁃Mismatch between undamaged material and new material used to repair or replace damaged material due to outdated, obsolete or discontinued products.

    What my interpretation is:

    • The new bamboo would be replacing completely ruined and water damaged bamboo planks. The new bamboo would not be replacing old, weathered, oxidized, oudated, obsolete, or discontinued bamboo planks, so my situation should not apply to the above.

Am I way off base here? Is it a longshot that the insurance company will either resurface / refinish or complete replace the entire downstairs bamboo flooring?

    EDIT: I'm based in California.

Who should I talk to about getting my dad on disability?

    Posted: 08 May 2021 08:45 PM PDT

Sorry if this has been posted already. A little bit if background, my Dad (57) has had cancer (renal cell carcinoma) for nearly 10 years, has had a brain tumor removed about 2 years ago, and also one of his kidneys removed about 9 years ago. You'd never even know he was sick or has been battling anything. He still goes to work every day, and still takes care of his house, his car and his garden.

One of his nurses had asked why he isn't on disability yet, and we never even gave it a thought because if he is struggling, he hides it well. So I'm curious if he can qualify because the main reason would be financial assistance, rather than actually having a disability. If that makes sense. I also learned that he's paying nearly $600/mo for insurance through his job he's been at for 40 years... I know absolutely nothing about insurance or the process or who to even reach out to... Any kind of direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Brain Meltdown

    Posted: 08 May 2021 06:48 PM PDT

Hello fellow insurance people. I've been working on a statement of values today which wasn't properly broken down. I'm trying to update my Equipment Breakdown limit to even just match the expiring limits. I feel like an idiot having to ask this but I've gone upside down and sideways with different values for contents, equipment, building. Am I including finished but not yet shipped stock values, or just raw material values- along side of equipment, business interruption, building, etc. none of the values match at all. So I'm doubting what I'm even including in the calculations.

Hopefully this is a simple answer for someone. I just want to put the correct Direct Damage limit, and if that includes finished stock, or only raw materials, or both.

And for reference, this is a millwright who manufactures, supplies and installs. Some furniture making. Not sure if that matters.

Edit: forgot to mention, I'm in BC, Canada

    Thanks!

0% coinsurance and a $500 deductible, but no out of pocket limit specified (unitedhealthcare)

    Posted: 08 May 2021 05:50 PM PDT

I plan to get a surgery withing the next 3 years that will cost me somewhere between 30k and 50k before insurance.

When I look at my insurance plan, it says I have an out of pocket limit of $6,000 dollars, so I would pay 6k for the surgery.

However, there is no out of pocket limit for out of network providers listed. All it specify is that there's 0% coinsurance and a $500 deductible. This implies the surgery would cost basically nothing but that doesn't seem right.

Can someone give me some guidance here?

What happens to an older car when an insurance company takes it?

    Posted: 08 May 2021 05:05 AM PDT

Girlfriend got in a small accident in her 2005 civic, insurance company offered 2500 just to take it (she obviously did, 2500 for a car that's 16 years old with Mvi expiring next month?!?!) then the tow truck came and got it. I'm assuming they scrap it but I'm curious to know whats actually gonna happen to it.

    Home insurance claim question

    Posted: 08 May 2021 07:15 AM PDT

I've never filed a claim on home insurance before, but we had some tornado damage that destroyed an awning and caused some roof damage, insurance has assessed the damage and is sending us a check, I have contractors coming out to look at the repairs, my question is can I have them simply repair the roof damage and not do anything to replace the awning? We kind of like the patio without the awning. Will insurance follow up and cause problems if we don't do the full scope of repairs that they have sent money for? I'm really ignorant to the whole process. Thanks.

    Interested in working in underwriting

    Posted: 08 May 2021 04:38 PM PDT

I am interested in working in underwriting. I have an undergrad in business management. I have following questions please see if anyone could help.

    1. What is Specialty Insurance? Does it fall on the commercial underwriting side?

    2. What is the difference between P&C insurance and commercial insurance? Does P&C fall in commercial insurance.

    3. Lastly, I like analysis and looking at numbers. I am quite an analytical person. Not a data scientist though. I am very precise and like things black and white, I ask a lot of questions to understand everything. But I am more of a behind the scenes guy and not much into sales and building relationships. I am a social person though and get along quite well with others esp. in a formal setting, but not a sales person. I am good for commercial insurance ? as I have heard that there is a strong sales/marketing aspect towards it. I am not comfortable with hard sales. I can only do good communication.

    Mouse proem

    Posted: 08 May 2021 02:23 PM PDT

Just noticed my title typo 🙃

Reoccurring mouse problem and... dead mouse in car

A horrible smell has emerged in my car over the past few weeks. I have a 2018 Kia Sorento and we've had ongoing mice problem so we assumed a mouse has died. I got the car detailed, and took it into the shop. They couldn't find the rodent (but haven't checked dash or ceiling area). It smells pretty terrible in there and I just noticed mouse poop again. I am at my whits end here and starting to resent my car.

I've read about people needing new vehicles due to rodents and I am just not sure what I should be doing here. It smells horrible so it's not like I can sell my car.

Is this a call insurance thing yet? Any advice? I'm in Muskoka Ontario FWIW.

How to fill out claim for Covid-19 testing (any help appreciated!)

    Posted: 08 May 2021 10:20 AM PDT

My health insurance (Horizon BCBS, through a major Pharma Company) is supposed to be covering all Covid-19 testing. I got a test done at a provider that doesn't do direct billing of insurance, and I'm trying to figure out some of the entries on the claim form, and this isn't easy! If anyone is familiar with how to file insurance claims and can help me figure out this info, I'd really appreciate some help!

I have an itemized bill from the provider but it only states my name, the tax id of the provider, the service I got (covid-19 RT-PCR Test), the cost, and the fact that paid.

The insurance form asks for the following:

"Diagnosis or nature of illness" -- there's room for 4 entries, all of which seem to be numbers with a decimal point, and this section has an arrow going to a "diagnosis pointer."

"Place of service" -- it's looking for something short here -- perhaps I just put "PHL" since this was done at the PHL airport?

"EMG" -- not sure what this means -- emergency? leave it blank?

Procedures, Services or Supplies -- "CPT/HCPSC number" and another space for "modifier"

"days or units" -- not sure what this means

EPSDT Family plan -- not sure what this means

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Small Business Insurance claim

    Posted: 08 May 2021 01:49 PM PDT

Located in GA, USA. Very easy question but I'm expecting complicated answers. So basically my GFs gas station got robbed. Someone had the keys to the game machine mass produced by the company I assume and they robbed $4000 out of that machine. GFs family is thinking about filing an insurance claim. Is it sensible for that amount? Or would the rates sky rocket after that?

What is a reimbursement account card? [Virginia, US]

    Posted: 08 May 2021 01:28 PM PDT

    Hey,

I don't know if my HR screwed up or what, because I picked a normal health insurance plan, not a high deductible plan with HSA, that's the only explanation I can come up with for why I received this card.

If it's not for HSA, what is it for? Do I have to use it?

The paperwork it came with offers no explanation for how I'm supposed to use it, but alludes that I need to document and submit claims and proof and all of these crazy things I've never had to do before. Normally, if I go to the doctor… I just go to the doctor and show my insurance card and pay the rest, now I need to document if I go to a doctor? And I need an itemized receipt from them now? And I need to pay what insurance doesn't pay using the debit card they gave me?

What's with all this complication?! This is making me afraid to even use my health insurance!

Quickie about Cigna vs just picking my own thing

    Posted: 08 May 2021 12:03 PM PDT

    Hey folks.

My employer (I'm a contractor) has offered me benefits which I originally declined. However, since my recent move to Nevada, despite the fact my spouse and I are in a domestic partnership, it turns out Health Plan of Nevada is free to decline me as they are not to keen on the idea. The state recognizes it, the insurance does not, so I went back to the drawing board and my contracting company took me in without an issue after I sent them some paperwork as it qualified as a life event.

Anyways, here's what the options were that I ended up picking (total works out to be about $200 per pay period which is twice a month)

I get that insurance and contracting is sketchy because it's a transient thing but there was no brochure, nor in depth explanation of what my deductibles are. Other than the fact it's Cigna it may have a million dollar deductible. Those identifiers at the end of plan names look like IDs I can google but no dice.

Anyway, just curious if this is something that'll be acceptable or do I need to look at private insurance? It'd be rather painful to pay for both.

    Cheers!

Am I unreasonable to request brand new hardwood floors from an adjuster when only a portion of the flooring was destroyed?

    Posted: 08 May 2021 06:53 AM PDT

Long story short, my bamboo flooring had a huge chunk of it ruined by water damage. My water remediation guy said that the insurance company may need to replace all of the flooring because it will be really obvious which bamboo planks are old and which are new, and he doesn't know you can just resurface the old existing bamboo planks to have them match the new.

This picture is an example of what i really am worried about - granted, this isn't bamboo, but you get the point.

    Allstate Hospital Indemnity Coverage

    Posted: 08 May 2021 06:37 AM PDT

We have had Allstate Hospital indemnity Coverage ($500 1st day, $250 ea day after) which covers Hospital "confinement", for about five years and never filed a claim. I recently had hip replacement and was in hospital overnight (>24 hrs), so I filed a claim timely and submitted bill and physician documents. Thought I was good to go!

Allstate is denying the claim saying that the bill doesn't show "room and board". It looks to me like the hospital lumped all the charges into a line item called "Surgery". Interesting that they break out each pain pill, but they lump together a bunch of other fees into one category. I don't even see a meal on the bill! LOL

This seems to be something new to me. I had open heart surgery about 10 years ago and it clearly had daily charges for room/board!

Has anyone else had any experience with this?

Do I need to pay to register again?

    Posted: 08 May 2021 03:49 AM PDT

I recently moved states to michigan and my car was registered at the beginning of the year, I've paid my car insurance 6 months in advance and it is ending in july - still Minnesota insurance.

I wanted to wait to renew in july to not waste money on my policy - is there an issue with this since I'm currently living in Michigan.

same thing with getting the insurance switched over to michigan after the 6 months is up, will my car need to be re registered in michigan before I can get Michigan insurance? will I have to pay roughly 250$ again just to register my car in the same year?

    any help is appreciated. thanks
