What Do I Need To Do Next?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 01:41 AM PDT

So, I have been building my online presence for a while now and have gained a decent following in a short period.

I'm in the vegan niche and on the instagram page of my business I share vegan recipes for people etc.

Currently finishing up a course I built on meal prepping as many followers were asking me questions about this.

Now, my question is this. This August I'm leaving to Mexico for a year, maybe longer to focus on my business and be able to make massive progress and make my business profitable.

Are there any business books/roadmap books you think could help me out in this process?

I want to make good use of this one year and not waste any time.

    Thanks in advance, S.

What are some tips (or how-to's) for starting a new product line and testing market demand?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 11:39 PM PDT

Hi, I'm an entrepreneur running a couple successful ventures. Recently it seems that every new venture or thing I test is not successful. That's okay. Most businesses fail, and I am grateful to be in a position where I can spend money testing new ideas with cash from my successful ventures.

That being said, I would like to get some new products or ventures rolling out. The ceiling is being hit with my current ventures. There's little room for growth.

If there's anything I've learned over my years in business, it's that everyone says they would buy your "thing," but when it comes down to the real sale, few follow through. It's not enough to find demand. You need to people that open their wallets for what it is you're offering.

My best idea now is to create a hypothesis for a product/service, create some ads for it, create a landing page & sales page, and then try to pre-sell it or sell it (with a broken check-out page, so people can't actually buy it but it appears like it's buy-able).

My question is though: how deep into testing do we go? Do we create an ultra-fancy, lengthy sales page? Or do you keep it as basic and quick as possible, preferring to test several different ideas and optimize later?

My goal is to identify a profitable cost per sale via online ads (which is my specialty and what I'm best at) by creating landing/sales pages that promote products/services that are NOT available yet (no real payment info captured, actual purchase shows error and we will contact them back). Once identified, then I'll create the product, then relaunch the ads with a real check-out page.

Does anyone have any tips/feedback for this? And how deep into creating a sales funnel do you go (ie. do you create a webinar, go deep, etc. or do you just setup basic pages to see what happens for quick, low-budget tests??). Thanks in advance, everyone.

26 Lessons Leading up to 26 years of my life!

    Posted: 10 May 2021 06:40 PM PDT

    It's my BIRTHDAY! 🍰

I am not a big birthday person, but it's important to take time and reflect.

TLDR; I turn 26 tomorrow (May 11) and have been doing some deep reflecting tonight. The 2 biggest lessons so far: 1) Life is a long game, treat it that way. 2) Have multiple income streams (or work towards that)

Here are 26 lessons leading up to 26 years of my life:

    1. You're young, play the long game with everything you do.
    2. Starting a podcast was one of the greatest things I've started. Everyone should have a podcast.
    3. Figure out your strengths and focus on them. Hire your weaknesses and you'll be much happier.
    4. Do something you're passionate about, if not, you won't pass the test of time.
    5. Have a passion project where you are concerned about impacting lives today and making money tomorrow, not the opposite.
    6. Listen on purpose and give everyone a chance before you tune them out.
    7. Everyone has a story to tell.
    8. You will go through periods of intense stress, think of those times in "waves". They will settle soon.
    9. Make progress every day, don't worry about perfection.
    10. Being busy and productive is completely different. You can spend 6 months of the year being busy and feel like you've accomplished a lot, but in reality, you haven't.
    11. Don't chase the shiny object. It's going to be difficult but you can't fall into the trap.
    12. Ask people how you can help them constantly. Providing support to others will result in things you wouldn't have expected.
    13. Being a founder can be lonely, make sure you surround yourself with a community that cares.
    14. Take criticism as advice, don't let your ego get in the way.
    15. Don't "open loops", instead, deal with problems as they come, even if it means having uncomfortable conversations.
    16. Be strategic with your inputs, increase them, and then your outputs will follow. Increased inputs = Increased outputs.
    17. A global pandemic can change everything overnight, don't be overleveraged and understand your risks.
    18. There is a brighter side to everything, even in a global pandemic, good things can come about.
    19. Most things are not personal, don't take it that way.
    20. Get uncomfortable, and when you feel that, keep going. That is the WORST time to stop.
    21. Balance is key in everything. You don't need to subscribe to the belief that you are young and you need to "hustle in your 20s to live in your 30s". It is okay to take days off.
    22. If you act professionally, people will take you more seriously, especially when leading a team.
    23. Don't rush to escape the 9 to 5, it is a process. The day job can teach you a lot.
    24. Be the person that you needed 6 months ago.
    25. Be yourself. I don't mean to get "woo-woo", but if you aim to please everyone, you won't please anyone. Get comfortable with sticking to what you believe in.

So you've collected data- rows and columns in Excel. Here's a guide to go about analyzing it, constructing bar charts with error terms, and a quick student's t-test.

    Posted: 10 May 2021 09:21 PM PDT

    https://youtu.be/VRb3zFuY17g

This video is a derivation trimmed from a statistics tutorial on using Excel to analyze a set of biological data for calculating the mean, error terms, and if significant patterns occur. The session was for undergraduate students in Biological Sciences at the University of Toronto.

*Swap the biological numbers on flowers to business ROIs, expenses, and so on; hopefully this is of use*

A preamble on data framing is given for context; a short explanation of the mean and standard deviation and error of it provided in a world of normalcy.

Next, the actual demo in excel is shown using a data set to calculate the stats and construct bar charts or bar graphs.

Finally, a rough approach to pairwise testing of differences of means between treatments is orchestrated.

For those of you who have hired a business advisor/ consultant, what was your experience like? Was it worth it?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 12:52 PM PDT

President of a fairly new business (just under a year), looks like it will be fairly profitable but a lot of things feel very, for lack of a better word, messy. It's very tempting to look for a consultant to help organization, hopefully increase profits, suggest ideas for hiring or anything else we could be doing better. What's everyone's thoughts on the topic?

Approached about a “business opportunity” that sounds a lot like a scam.

    Posted: 10 May 2021 04:41 PM PDT

About a week ago I was at a Target when a young guy (probably around 30) came up to me and complimented my sneakers. We talked for a while about shoes and other life stuff when he asked for my number, I have a burner number that I use for random things pile this so I gave him that number. He just called me and asked if I would be interested in hearing about a business opportunity involving "passive income." This all sounds super fishy to me and he continued to use a lot of the same language and compliments multiple times. I am assuming that this is some sort of pyramid scheme and don't plan on calling him back, but I am just curious if anyone has experienced something similar.

Are there any experts in the U.S. beauty market/internationalisation available for a quick interview?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 04:05 PM PDT

Hi, all! I know you are all busy, and have tons of worries on your mind. But, just hear me out.

I'm Tina and I'm studying International Marketing. I am in a search for experts in the U.S. beauty and personal care market. In other words, if you know how to sell an EU product in the U.S, and know a bit a about the market and the modes of entry, you are my person!

I need an interview partner for my research. Since, I am still a broke college student, I cannot offer you much. Except of the summary of the research and a short-and-nice interview chat. I know that it isn't much, but if you want to take a break of your busy life and chat with me, just hit me up :)

Didn't negotiate smart. Looking for advice.

    Posted: 10 May 2021 12:32 PM PDT

I was offered an investment opportunity at a start up. The lead partner in the project has a good reputation and track record. Considers the project her baby and I trust her.

I was offered a stake for some investment. I negotiated for a higher stake for my silent investment and she got back with a reduction of my original investment requirement but said couldn't offer more shares due to prior commitments to the already committed partners.

I only focused on my return on investment and was happy about it soI agreed. Going through the contract I notice how two of the working partners are paying half my sum but getting far more shares than I am.

Is there a point in trying to gain some more without coming off as flakey and whiny? I should've prodded some more which I stupidly didn't and made a gut feeling call.

How do you ship with shippo using a bigcartel website ?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 11:30 AM PDT

I am currently about to release a hoodie that a lot of people want and I'm not sure how to ship it using shippo? I've used shippo before by shipping shoes but not clothing. I was wondering what dimensions I would use to ship the hoodies in a poly mailer since I see most brands use those when shipping shirts/hoodies. I also was wondering what's the best option I've seen shipping for 1 day priority which is $7 and there's the cheapest option which is around $4 I've heard. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated thanks !
