    PsychoMarket Recap - Monday, April 5, 2021

Stocks jumped on Monday, continuing their strong performance from last Friday, with the S&P 500 (SPY) and Dow Jones (DIA) recording fresh highs. The tech-heavy Nasdaq (QQQ) outperformed, closing the day 2% up. Market participants remain encouraged by President Biden's recent infrastructure proposal, a better-than-expect monthly job report, and are looking ahead to a week of commentary from Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) members.

The March Jobs Report blew past consensus estimates to record the fastest pace of job growth since last summer. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 916,000 for the month while the unemployment rate fell to 6% (unemployment rate was 14.6% in April 2020). Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for an increase of 675,000 and an unemployment rate of 6%. Quincy Krosby, chief market strategist at Prudential Financial said, "It [the jobs report] shows that the economy is healing, that those who lost their jobs are coming back into the workforce as the recovery continues and restrictions are lifted."

President Biden's plan, called the American Jobs Plan, proposes to spend $2.25 trillion over 8 years to rehabilitate and build out the nation's transportation infrastructure, expand domestic manufacturing and workforce development, modernize the electrical grid, and fund the research, development, and implementation of clean energy technologies. See a full list of items from the bill here.

Looking ahead, this week will be chock full of commentary from Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) members, who will offer their assessment of the latest batch of economic data and how they will proceed. . Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin and St. Louis Fed President Jim Bullard are each slated to deliver public remarks later this week, and Fed Chair Jerome Powell will speak at an International Monetary Fund (IMF) panel regarding the global economy Thursday afternoon. In a note to client, Wells Fargo economist Sam Bullard said, " "While the consensus of the FOMC continues to suggest that the committee will wait for their forecasts to be realized before taking policy action, it will be interesting to see if there is any intense discussion about the implications of the stronger outlook, particularly around inflation. Most Fed officials expect any pick-up in inflation to be "transitory," yet we suspect there are a few officials that are pushing back on that narrative."

Are limit orders executed in a timeline or are they completely random?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 08:25 PM PDT

    I'll provide an example.

Let's say I submit a limit order at 10pm for market open and then you submit a limit order for the exact same price at 12pm for market open, does my limit order execute before yours?

Are orders placed in a line and executed in a row or is it completely random? I've tried searching everywhere for an answer to this. I've tried searching Google and I've asked other subreddits and nobody can seem to provide the answer. Maybe nobody really knows?

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this. I just really want to know and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I just figured maybe one of you seasoned veterans in here could shoot me straight.

Thank you in advance for your help. :)

Meaning of "38 - Redemption, retraction, cancellation, repurchase"?

Meaning of "38 - Redemption, retraction, cancellation, repurchase"?

    Hi,

I am researching the recent insiders' trading of a Canadian company listed on TSX using the Canadian Insider website. Not being a finance/accounting person, I do not understand some of the terminology used and how to interpret some of the figures presented.

So for the stock I am looking at, there are the following entries for the director of the company recently:

    https://preview.redd.it/7t5xop9z6er61.png?width=353&format=png&auto=webp&s=962120e4b1c6855cfd4ced9b2afd9accfb57b7b0

So has the director of the company recently bought 15792 shares and sold 38703 and 121334 shares (which seems to be a negative sign for the stock)?

Could anyone explain to me the meaning of "Exercise of third party derivative" and "Redemption, retraction, cancellation, repurchase" in this context?

    Thank you very much.

How do market makers hedge the VIX?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 02:27 PM PDT

How exactly do market makers hedge the VIX as it rises and falls? Do they even need to? Is there an underlying they buy and sell? I'm confused because I know you can't buy shares in the VIX, it's an options only thing. What do you get delivered to you if you exercise your contract?

If the VIX rockets up and a whole bunch of call options suddenly go in the money, what would a market maker do to hedge in that instance?

Bonus question: is it possible to gamma squeeze the VIX if the call contracts are set up in a "ramp" and the price goes up high enough?

I'm still noticing some interesting call ramps to very high strike prices on the VIX on June 16, so I'm wondering if someone is setting up something so the millions of calls go in the money if the price rockets up that high.

News about SNCA merging with leading BioSciences.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 07:10 AM PDT

A recently proposed merger between Seneca Biopharma and Leading BioSciences is awaiting a key vote from Seneca shareholders. For this vote to take place, shareholders must vote for a reverse stock split as well as the change in control and issuance of new shares.

Should these votes be positive, the two companies will merge, creating Palisade Bio. In the case of a merger, Seneca shareholders will own about 26% of Palisade Bio and enjoy a contingent value right, or CVR, giving shareholders rights to 80% of proceeds from Seneca Biopharma's legacy assets.

In the video, the CEO explained that the merger would be beneficial to Seneca shareholders, who are frustrated with historical stock performance. He went on to explain that through the merger, Seneca shareholders will enjoy ownership in a company with a world-class management team, several valuable ts, and a focus on providing shareholder value.

Leading BioSciences has a strong pipeline of gastrointestinal drugs and a management team that has a strong history of performance. Moreover, not only will Seneca shareholders receive access to this management team and pipeline, should the merger be approved, shareholders will also enjoy an 80% share in legacy assets, So, you're really not giving up much here.
