Reminder: ALWAYS Audit Your Commission Statements Posted: 05 Apr 2021 06:25 AM PDT In my sales career, there have been numerous times I have looked into my commission statement and it seemed like everything lined up, only to dig in and realize I was being underpaid based on what my plan said I should be. Recently, I noticed that I was underpaid on a deal by close to $2,000 because of a quirk with how accelerators were credited in our payroll software. This is not meant to be accusatory and say companies deliberately will underpay you, but it is not in your company's best interest to proactively look out to ensure you are paid what is owed. If you are not regularly doing the math on your own, you are likely to miss out on thousands - if not tens of thousands - of dollars in your sales career. This should be required due diligence for every salesperson along with knowing your comp plan front to back. When in doubt, there is never harm in asking questions if something doesn't fully add up. What courses/certificates to take to increase my employability for a better sales gig in tech/saas Posted: 04 Apr 2021 10:13 PM PDT Hey gang, I work as an AM in the saas market. I've been wanting to learn more when it comes to the technical side of software but don't know where to start or what will give me the biggest pay bump and more options in employment. What would be the best route to take and what are your real life experiences?? Thanks in advance y'all. [link] [comments] |
How hard is it to get into the top tech companies? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 09:48 AM PDT I work in SaaS at a company with roughly 120 people. We are growing at quite a fast pace and I am enjoying the ride. I would like to work for a larger organisation one day (e.g. Microsoft). Do these companies consider candidates from smaller organisations? If not, how do you get into them? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2021 04:39 AM PDT I've been working in sales for 2 years now. Many people ask me the same question "do you see yourself in sales forever? My gut reaction is to say no. Frankly, working with targets can be thrilling when you achieve them but in the long term it could easily mess with my stress levels. I like Sales because: - easy to earn money with commissions - always in contact with customers and prospects, I enjoy the customer facing aspect What I don't like about Sales: - peer competition. Yes it can help boost performance but I'd much rather sell with my colleagues rather than against them. - constant pressure with increasing targets. This is a job that eventually penalises you for doing well as the more you sell the more they will ask to you to sell. My question here is, what career paths do people take after some time in Sales? Any suggestions based on my thoughts? I've been thinking things like Solution Architect (pre-sales) and customer success but I know they earn less money so I haven't felt confident to take the leap. How soon should I consider leaving sales if I want to be successful in another type of role? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2021 06:38 AM PDT I've been in tech sales for over 7 years and man-2020 kicked my butt! Barely made quota, and had to work twice as hard grinding it out on the phones & emails just to stay above water and was trying to protect myself from getting laid off - which I am still employed thankfully! I have never been so burnt out! Between still trying to fill pipeline for this year (we have long sales cycles) and a bunch of personal family stuff-deaths, surgeries, parents getting older, kids remote learning - I am exhausted and find that I am just having a hard time getting through the days. I'm trying to stay positive but if the opportunity to stay in bed and sleep for a month was an option - I would take it! I ended up in the negative for vacation time because of personal time off to deal with a sick parent in January so I don't have a lot of time accrued - and with more things coming up that I need the time off for, I'm hesitant to take a day off. Plus, I am having a hard time justifying it to myself when I'm home and with the kids and the dogs it's not like I can just stay in bed anyway! How do you all deal and push through? I'm looking at the amount of calls I have scheduled for today - and I just don't want to pick up the phones! Any advice would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Going from sales to sales operations? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 09:22 AM PDT I've been an account executive at 3 different SaaS companies over the last 6 years. I don't think it's something I want to keep doing and have been interested in the sales/revenue operations side. I'm really interested in trying to make the processes better for the reps and working cross functionally with marketing and finance. My degree is in finance and worked as an investment analyst for 2 years before switching over to sales but I don't have any operations experience. For anyone that has made a similar switch, how where you able to transition? Thanks all. [link] [comments] |
Presentations for AE interviews... tips? Posted: 04 Apr 2021 03:07 PM PDT Hey Folks - so a ton of my friends recently have been interviewing for AE roles (Mid Market - Enterprise) and most of these startups/companies are looking for AE's to do a mock presentation on the companies product/products. I personally don't do many presentations myself in my day to day - it comes off to salesy in my opinion. My question is - for interviewers who are asking candidates to make presentations, what some best practices they are looking for right off the bat? I'm sure there are many best practices as well as red flags people need to avoid. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2021 12:08 PM PDT I am sure this is a topic that has been discussed before on here but wanted to refresh the conversation for a 25 year old making his way through his career. Currently have a couple years in SaaS sales under my belt. While I enjoy many aspects of Sales, I do not believe this is the career path right for me. I have always have had an interest in marketing but have no experience with it. (Have a CJ degree). So I wanted to ask how the transition has gone for similar young reps in sales or anyone that has the experience with marketing. Not sure where to start. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
I need some advice on where to take my Sales career next based on my History in Personal Training. Posted: 05 Apr 2021 10:45 AM PDT Quick background. Have a Masters Degree in Exercise Science. Became a successful trainer at a Commercial gym by being able to sell my services. Became the top seller of Personal Training on the East coast for my company. Company went out of business and I opened my home gym to moderate success. The home gym has caused me to lose motivation and ambition. During covid I was hustling everyday to flip fitness equipment to earn money. It became more profitable than my training and reinvigorated my desire to hustle, sell and the entrepreneurial aspects of a sales career. I wonder if anyone would offer advice on where I should turn my skills and energies towards next. I have no family and am a hard worker that can devote 100 percent of his energies to selling and earning. When i was flipping equipment i was literally working 16 hours days every day. I am willing to enter any new field and can adapt fast to whatever industry. My priority is to earn the maximum amount of income as fast as possible. Any sacrifice needed to be made I am open and willing to do. [link] [comments] |
New BDR/SDR Cold-Calling - Needing Advice During Covid Overcoming Objections Posted: 04 Apr 2021 09:01 PM PDT Excuse the format: Mobile and new to this. I've been working a Business Development Representative job at a software company selling fundraising software. I've been running into issues a lot lately with organizations who have a tight budget and/or want to hold off to purchase software due to uncertainty with covid. What are some ways you would overcome these objections? [link] [comments] |
What is your favorite Lead Generation Companies for Engineering Company? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 07:52 AM PDT Hi, what has been the best lead generation company for you? What are things that are you looking into when trying to find the best the lead generation company? [link] [comments] |
Hardest Part of Selling? What Makes a Good Sales Person? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 07:33 AM PDT I'm a student hoping to ask a sales person the following questions. Please let me know if you're open to follow-up questions via DM. Thank you!

What were some things you looked for in company when applying to become a SDR? Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:18 PM PDT I'm trying to transition into becoming a SDR from my retail Verizon sales job. I have been searching for 9 months and have come across some pretty cool companies. However I would just like to hear from other peoples perspective on what they were looking for out of companies before applying to them for a SDR role? [link] [comments] |
Would you join a Hyper Growth company with a questionable leader? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:59 AM PDT The offer seems perfect on paper. Enterprise AE role at a SaaS provider with a $200k salary guarantee and options leading toward a float in the next 2/3 years. Even if the options go underwater you'll have a fair earning from the salary alone. The drawback is that the Vice President of your region has a horrible reputation. In both a work and personal arena, this person has a lingering stain against their name a mile long. They haven't been there for too long but have joined long enough to have a grip on your region. Would you take the position? How important is good leadership? [link] [comments] |
Normal Response Times After Interviews? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:54 AM PDT I've had a few interviews lately which I think went well. First one was about a week ago and I thought they would make an offer. Haven't heard back. How long should I wait before checking with them about their decision? Second and third interviews also went well I think. They asked to complete online personality assessments which I have done. How long should I wait to hear a reply before I check back with them? For all interviews I contacted the hiring manager within a day or two to thank them for their time and express interest in proceeding and next steps, etc. but is there anything more I can do to see where things stand? Anyone have experience with these types of personality tests? I am (planning on) making a career change to sales and have never done one for any previous jobs. [link] [comments] |
I just implemented Salesforce CRM...HELP!!!! Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:39 AM PDT So I will only be using this for myself and another BDR. Can anyone give me some tips and tricks. I will be creating a cold call list of about 10,000 companies and will import it into Salesforce so my BDR can use that. I can send targeted email campaigns on there as well correct? How do you best stay organized in there. Would love to hear from other sales/marketing people. I want to use the system anyway I can to get the most out of it and get more leads. [link] [comments] |
Uniform/payroll work hours in sales? Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:40 PM PDT Just wanted to know how many hours I should expect working as an entry-level sales rep in the uniform/payroll industry? Im thinking about working for Cintas/Unifirst/ADP/Paychex Thanks! [link] [comments] |
how would you sell personal information to sales company? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 01:35 AM PDT even as low as cold calling sales companies need numbers and names of the owners of those numbers, if you had some amount of numbers (let's say 100000) and knew name and lastname of the owner of each number how would sell them to sales company?
