Legal Advice Update on my situation as my friend's alibi

Update on my situation as my friend's alibi

    Posted:

First off, my day got unexpectedly busy pretty much right after I put my last post up, and had been locked by the time I was able to look at my phone for longer than it takes to check my notifications, so I just wanted to take a second to thank everyone for their advice. I'm also comfortable with being a little more forthcoming now, as the situation has resolved itself.

Long story short, the guy that had issues with my roommate had been found dead in his apartment. It's been determined that he either died of an accidental overdose or committed suicide. Either way, my roommate doesn't have to worry about being a suspect in a homicide investigation, which means that I don't have to worry about being his alibi. My source for this information is 100% reliable, but if by some chance the police switch gears and want to talk to me or my roommate, neither of us will engage without a criminal defense attorney.

    Thanks again.

My tax refund check went to my previous address (my sons grandmothers house). Me and my boys mother are separated but her and my son currently live in my house. She took my check from her mothers and will not give it to me unless I give her $2k.

    Posted:

I told her if she does not give me my check then I will be taking the day off work tomorrow to report it.

I also plan on talking to someone about preparing for a family plan as I no longer want her living here as its incredibly toxic for my son to be around all of this.

I'm not entirely sure what to do but I know I have to do something.

Edit: she threatened to pepper spray me while my son is standing right next to me so I called the police and walked out of the house to avoid escalation. They are currently talking to her

    Edit: location Florida

Edit: The cop had her leave me the check and she went to stay at her moms with my son.

Can I put a lock on the mailbox to deter previous resident? (MO)

    Posted:

I inherited a house a few months ago. A shady figure my father knew would crash their occasionally when my father was alive (not a full time resident, has not been at house since November) and apparently had their mail sent their (court notices, etc). They have refused requests to leave the property alone, vandalized the property and are still receiving mail there.

I have no tampered with, opened or withheld their mail in anyway. Anything I find is marked 'Not at this address' (accurate as house is vacant) and immediately placed in a mailbox. I'm sick of this and would like to install a camera and locking mailbox.

Can I get in trouble for locking him out of a mailbox for a property he has no claim to? Some of the papers I have returned to sender are court notices, letters from attorneys, health department etc. so that's why I'm worried.

I am not open to allowing him to collect his mail from me because a-no one lives in that house. b. he has slashed my tires when I was doing a clean-out c. he's a known criminal, I don't feel safe

I just want to get him away from the property so I can quickly sell.

New Jersey USA- Being forced to report to work for no pay

    Posted:

I have been working at a medical diagnostic lab in New Jersey for about three months. The owners will only allow employees to be on the clock if they are physically in the building working on specimens. If there are no specimens, you have to clock out and leave. I am a full time hourly employee scheduled to work a full 8-hour shift every Sunday, but there are rarely specimens to work on over the weekend. I am typically only there for less than two hours maximum, and I often don't work at all and have to turn around and immediately go home. On the days I don't work at all, my time sheet shows no time logged even though I always clock in and out when I go to work to check to see if there is any. So, I reported to work and made myself available for a full work day for free, many times during the short 3 months I've been here. I am fed up.

I have been sacrificing time with my friends and family every weekend to report to work for nothing. I have brought this issue up with my employer but they don't care. I told my supervisor the amount of time I spend here on Sundays and that it seems as though I am not needed and asked to be taken off the schedule, my supervisor looked at me like I had 7 heads and just walked away.

They have been doing really strange and shady things, such as double-booking shifts and just sending one of the people home when they show up, claiming it is their fault for "not double-checking the schedule before coming to work", even though everyone has been on the same schedule this whole time. Many of us are in serious financial distress because we rarely ever get more than part-time hours.

Do I have any rights here, or am I just out of luck and just have to live with wage loss until I find a new job?

(Texas) Sister sold her and ex husbands house without him signing any documents.

    Posted:

I just found out yesterday from my ex brother in law that my sister sold their house after the divorce and he did not sign any papers. She also took all the money from the sale of the house and did not give him anything. In their divorce decree it was stated that they would split the proceeds. My question is how did she sell the house with no one asking for his signature. Just for clarity, her realtor was my ex husband. He also bought the house. Claims he gave her cash. Just trying to help my ex brother in law out.

Edit: house was bought during the marriage and his house was on the loan and the deed.

Edit: Just found out my ex effed them both and my ex brother in law will never be able to recover the money. BIL signed the house over to my sister and then she sold it to my ex. My ex paid her a cash sum and then bought the house for what they owed, so no profit was on the books. So my ex made out with the profit. Not them. But thanks for everyone's help

Wife will not allow me to take 2 year old to visit grandparents.

    Posted:

Hello, and thanks for any advice.

My wife is currently facing assault charges (on me), and is being bitter by not allowing me to take our daughter to visit her grandparents. I'm in the process of getting my things in order to file for divorce, which she is unaware...but my question is, if there is no custody order in place right now why would I be able to take her to visit?

She said she'd call the police if I did. I just don't see how she can legally stop me. Thanks! Located in Maryland.

Congressman’s office says my YouTube channel name is a trademark infringement?

    Posted:

I have a very small YouTube channel (not monetized if it matters) that has my name and a racing number I used to use when racing motorcycles. A congressman's social media contact emailed me and said that they own the rights to that name (we have the same first/last name) and it is infringing on a copyright they have rights to. They go on to say the congressman was born that year, and that he flew in the navy with that number on his plane.

I googled him and sure enough, he exists and the number thing sounds legit, however he is in a different state. I'd like to keep my YouTube channel name, and come to think of it, my Instagram name is the same.

Do I have to change it? Would it make my life easier to change it? Or can I ignore it/tell them to pound sand?

Edit- my Instagram name has been mine and in use since 2012. The letter states that he secured the copyright in November 2020. The letter did say "cease and desist".

This was my reply to their email. What should I do?

Crazy, I have never heard of Rep. (name) but he has a great name!

I honestly would like to not change my small YouTube channel name. I do not see how he has rights to that particular name "(YouTube channel name)". The number referenced is a number I used when racing motorcycles. I attached a picture for you all to check out.

I would love to see the document you offered for reference. Is this something that cannot be taken up with YouTube directly? Respectfully, what is the course of action if I do not change the channel name? Is there actual legal action you can take, or is this a "please do it"?

Thanks for any clarity you can provide.

Do I just call the cops every time?

    Posted:

[North Carolina] I live in city limits in a residential neighborhood that has children in it. I have one neighbor who regularly has the cops at his house. He has had the Police in full gear kick down his doors, the other day his house was taped off.

I personally don't care that he sells drugs, what I care about is the fact he shoots in this neighborhood on a weekly basis. Eventually, someone will get hit. I've contacted police before and they've drove by, but nothing is being done about it. He's still out, shooting guns often, usually following him yelling out at someone.

Do I just keep calling the cops and hope eventually he is arrested?

[New York] The post office keeps forwarding my packages to random addresses. I have lost packages as a result. What can I do?

    Posted:

    Hi,

I moved in August and that December noticed that many of the Christmas presents I bought never arrived. Luckily I had tracking on one of them which told me it had been delivered (not the case). When I approached the post office they claimed I didn't live at my apartment (obviously not true and I had regular mail delivered for months). Because my apartment was empty they forwarded several packages to my former address AND several packages to the person who formerly lived in my apartment. EVEN THOUGH MY NAME WAS ON THE PACKAGE AND ON THE MAILBOX at my current apartment and not at my former address. The post office basically said that it was too late, they had already been delivered, and there was nothing they could do. Luckily I was able to intercept a package before it got forwarded ("it had a sticker saying to be forwarded to...") and I was able to get at least a few of my packages. It took weeks to get them back though, and the post office made 0 attempts to help with the situation. I know I lost/never received at least 2 packages (friends mentioned sending packages months later). At the time I was livid but had them make a note in the system that I lived there. Because I didn't trust the post office I had future packages sent to my work address... At the time the post office worker told me it was illegal to have more than one address... I doubt that but whatever.

OK fast forward 3 months and I ordered personal items off amazon that I did not want to be delivered to work and they have not arrived and it looks like the post office intercepted them and delivered them somewhere else. This is outrageous and I am super pissed to have to run around trying to find my packages (last time I had to drive 45 minutes to another town to pick up a package that was delivered to the wrong address IN THAT TOWN.)

Is there any legal avenue I can take to get compensation for the headache this has caused? I wasn't able to give Christmas presents on time, had to pick up packages myself in another county, had at least 2 packages lost that I know of, etc.

If there is no legal recourse, can I do a sting operation and send myself a package insured for 1000 dollars (or whatever the highest amount is) and when it doesn't arrive pursue compensation?

Seriously, the US Postal Service is the worst.

2 police officers just came to my work to talk to me. Help.

    Posted:

I don't even know where to begin. Since Covid, I have been working from home 2 days a week and in the office 3 days a week. We are in a complex of several bigger businesses. Today, 2 police detectives came into my work and asked to speak to me. They said that someone had been using stolen credit card info to order food deliveries and some of the orders had my name on it. I told them that I did not order the food deliveries on the dates they are for, on one of the dates I was even on vacation in another state, and I went as far as to show them my order history through doordash/uber eats/grub hub. They said they were doing an investigation and would contact me if they needed anything else. What is going on? Do I need to talk to a lawyer. Nothing like this has ever happened to me.

[Indiana] Calling adult protective services on a severe anorexic? When can the law step in with someone sick like this?

    Posted:

Hello, my sister has anorexia and its getting pretty bad. She is currently 5'7 and like 98 pounds and I can just see her getting sicker. I guess everyone around me is just going to let her starve to death because they all enable her and act like nothing is wrong. But everyday I can see her body failing--her legs wobble, she's cold and weak, her heart palpations are getting worse. Is there any way that I can get her help, or like a wellness checkup? If I were to contact adult protective services, could they possibly make her go to the hospital? Or put in a court order saying she's unfit to care for herself thus getting her immediate help? I know this sounds extreme but I'm desperate, I really don't want her to die.

Edit: she is 21, i am her twin

My apartment is after me about parking, but it's not me

    Posted:

I'm having a problem I can't solve. I live in Idaho. The lease on my apartment includes a parking space. The property manager says I'm parking a commercial work vehicle in my space which does not fit and is against the rules for not being a regular personal vehicle. I've been blind since birth so I obviously don't drive or work in construction. I live alone and I keep telling the property management company it isn't me. They say I'm violating my lease and are threatening eviction. It's obvious I'm blind and I've told them too. Do I need to get a lawyer.

[TN] Would a judge make my son stop playing sports? Ex filed for visitation.

    Posted:

25F, never married to ex, TN. Son is in the 1st grade here in our town. His rec sports is here in our town.

Our son will be 7 years old on Saturday. Two years ago, we moved an hour away from our hometown, which is where his father lives. I have continued to make sure my son goes back on the weekends to see his dad. I am currently married with an 18 month old and another on the way.

My ex has worked odd hour jobs for the last 5 years or so. First, he worked M-Sat for a moving company where he never knew what time he was getting off. Then, he worked nights for a factory Tues-Sat not getting off until 10am. Now, he is working for a furniture store. Not sure if it is for the store or for their distribution center. They are open on Saturdays so I assume he is working on Saturdays.

So for the past 5 years, he has seen our son on Sundays. Our son goes to his grandparents house and that is where his father goes to see him. His father does not help with transportation. I either drive the hour there to pick him up or drop him off, or I meet the grandmother or my mom halfway.

For the past two years, our son has played rec basketball which my husband coaches. Last year, he was set to play baseball and then COVID hit so it was canceled. However, this year baseball is happening so I signed him up and got everything he needs to play. He has been practicing for about 3 weeks. Practice and games are during the week. Practice is twice a week, one of those days being Friday night until about 9pm. Basketball practice is during the week and games are always on Saturdays.

Now, I got served a summons this past Monday to go to court to set up a parenting plan. I am not mad about it. I have continuously been blamed for why my ex does not get to see our son more, even though he is the one who continues to get jobs where he has to work most of the weekend.

What is the likelihood that a judge would have my son stop playing sports so that he could go to his dad's on the weekends?

If my ex does in fact work on Saturdays would a judge still give him some kind of Friday-Sunday visitation time?

Would it likely be every weekend or every other weekend? And is supervised visitation an option?

Could I ask that my ex drive here to pick up and drop off since I have been doing it for the past two years?

I am a SAHM so I am always available and at home so I would like for our son to be at home with me if his father plans on dropping our son off with someone else so he can go to work.

[ME] How to evict someone you took in to help out?

    Posted:

Obligatory "Not me, but a friend".

Friend (we'll call him "N") took in a woman (we'll call her "J") who left an abusive relationship to help her get on her feet. J came with A LOT of baggage in the form of 3 cats, a pigmy goat, and 3 horses. J is a therapist (how, I just don't know), but does not make nearly enough money to support herself and her animals. J has been told by everyone that she needs to sell at least two of her horses, but she refuses saying they are "family". J also has a long and sordid history of terrible relationship choices and financial decisions. She's a walking dumpster fire.

N has been housing J for a year and he's had it. N pays for everything except the horse and goat feed. He's lost thousands so far trying to help her, when she won't help herself. J's horses are destroying his land, the goat shits in the house, and she's an alcoholic who is nasty and combative when drinking (which is every night). He's told her she needs to find her own accommodations and that she needs to leave. She is continually playing the victim card. Last night, she even said he couldn't kick her out because she's a "battered woman" and the law won't allow it.

I call BS. There's got to be a way to legally evict her and her animals. Legal peeps of Reddit, what's the scoop?

Someone I know in the porn industry is sleeping with someone with Hepatitis C. They still work in the industry and I fear they are putting other people at risk.

    Posted:

This is in California or Oregon. Places they have recently gotten work. I'm wondering if there is anyway to report this within the industry. I'm worried about other people being exposed because of this persons careless actions. Hep C can get you blacklisted in the industry but can take up to three months to show up on a test. So a talent test may not detect this in time. Other people's livelihood could be at stake. I don't know what to do and I am scared that someone is going to get hurt. I'm not even sure of the legal standing on all this. Any suggestions?

(Florida) Upstairs neighbor’s dog barks at 5 AM every morning for an hour straight. Have reported it to my apartment complex several times and they aren’t doing anything about it, what’s my next step?

    Posted:

Ok y'all I'm at my limit with this dog. I have lived in this apartment for 3 months now. Every. Single. Weekday. Morning. Our upstairs neighbor's dog barks at 5AM on the dot every morning for at least an hour straight. The first week it happened we reported it to the main office and they said they'd talk to him about it. The next week rolls around and it's still happening. Reported again. Same response.

I'm pretty sure the dude who lives above us leaves for work at 5 and the dog just freaks out. It's left alone the majority of the day so I don't really blame it. Regardless, we have seen nothing showing that he's doing anything to fix this issue besides the fact that now when he takes the dog outside when he gets home and it barks he just shushes it (which of course doesn't do shit).

A few sleepless weeks of reporting and we go into the actual office to talk to people instead of dealing with it on the phone. They seemed nice about it, saying that they had sent him several warnings and had recently had management send him a letter. They also explained that he's a long time tenant and no one's ever reported dog barking issues.

I'm at a loss now. I can keep reporting him to my complex but I highly doubt any change will come from it. I'm a student and this is really starting to affect my grades. My boyfriend works most of the day and he's even more affected by it then I am. It's seriously putting a strain on both our mental health and relationship and I genuinely don't know how much more of this we can take. Recently the dog woke us up at 1AM and this morning it barked from 4AM-6AM. I'm so tired.

I've been trying to read up online on what to do but every site I visit has a different answer. "Go to the police, don't go to the police, animal control, no animal control isn't going to do anything" so I just need an answer. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am not the type of person who wants to see someone's dog taken from them, but at the same time, if the dog is this stressed then it's just straight up animal neglect.

I'm thinking about buying a kong and peanut butter for the dude and write a letter explaining everything and hoping that him giving the dog a treat filled toy before he leaves will distract the dog from barking.

If that doesn't work I genuinely don't know what to do, but I'm completely at my limit.

2 Police officers entered my appartment without consent or any mandate.

    Posted:

Keep in mind that this happened in Quebec, Canada.

This morning, two police officers came to my adress to search for my girlfriend's sister, because she ran away for the Youth Center where she needs to stay.

My girlfriend was in the shower, and she stopped when she heard the ringing. She came out of the shower to answer, and the officers were already inside because the door was unlocked. They saw her naked, and they just stayed there without doing anything.

Keep in mind she never gave any sort of consent for them to enter, there was no car in the parking lot (there only one spot in the parking) and she didn't even answered the door before they entered.

They acted like they did nothing wrong, wich really baffles me, and just said "well the door was unlocked". I did some research about the law in this specific case, and I saw that it's a crime and it's illegal, even if the door was unlocked. I'm scared because I know police officers are really great at bullying people that try to defend themselve, and since she don't have any video evidence, I feel like we are better off just accepting this shit.

To be honest, I feel betrayed and helpless, and I would really like to know if there's anything that could be done at all. This is inacceptable, and it's a huge breach of privacy.

Landlord is forcing us to move units due to repairs and is backing out of covering costs

    Posted:

    Hi everyone,

Back in mid February our kitchen ceiling began leaking and bubbling during a snow storm. We contacted maintenance right away and they told us they wouldn't be able to come and inspect it due to the snowfall.

After a few days passed, the ceiling got significantly worse as we're on the top floor and they finally came to inspect it and told us they would send someone out to repair the roof. Within the next few days our entire ceiling collapsed in the kitchen. There was debris and very clearly mold all over our kitchen.

They places a tarp over it to cover the hole and informed us that the damage to the roof was so extensive they would need us to move units in order to complete the repairs. They also told us that the unit two floors below us was being vacated by the previous tenants and once they made any necessary repairs, they would help us move into that.

Another couple of weeks went by and we reached out to them to see when the unit would be available to move into and they informed us that they had already rented it out to someone else. They offered another unit two doors down and we accepted and signed the lease. They also told us that we did not need to pay April's rent.

Originally, they told us over the phone they would provide help moving but in the most recent email they told us their guys aren't insured to move any personal belongings and gave a vague offer to cover "any additional costs." This seems to be them backing out of covering our move, which they originally told us they would provide.

Seeing as this move was not our choice and our apartment is by definition currently uninhabitable, we are becoming very frustrated with the situation. It's freezing in our place and there is very clearly black mold in the ceiling. We do not want to be responsible for the costs associated with moving because we have all been financially affected by COVID and this is definitely not in our budget. This is in Illinois. Thank you in advance for reading this. Are there any steps we can take to protect ourselves from this?

[California] Landlord refusing to attempt to find a new tenant

    Posted:

We are in the Bay Area of California. We are breaking our lease. The terms of our lease do not have a lease break fee, they state that we pay through the end of our lease. We are leaving six weeks before our lease expires. I want to keep this short, so I'll just list the facts below.

We gave our landlord 45 days notice and asked for a pre-move out inspection so we could fix any issues and receive our deposit back. He refused citing COVID.

We offered to give tours to prospective tenants, and to forward an advertisement to our employer's housing department. He refused citing COVID making it unsafe.

We arranged things such that the unit will be empty for 10 days prior to our 'move out' date, and have schedule professional cleaners to come through and sanitize it. We asked if he would advertise the unit now, and arrange for showings during those 10 days as the unit will be totally empty, and fully sanitized. He refused, claiming he cannot advertise the unit until he has inspected it and he cannot inspect it until it has sat empty long enough for COVID not to be a concern (did not tell us how long it needs to sit empty).

Now he is telling us we must pay our rent in full through the end of the lease. My understanding of California code 1951.2 is that the landlord is obligated to make a good faith effort to find a new tenant. If he makes a good effort and cannot find one (or finds one that pays less or leaves a gap) he can charge us the lost rents.

Can he just charge us through the end of our lease without attempting to find a new tenant? We have it in writing from him that he will not advertise or show the unit to prospective tenants and just expects us to pay through the end of our lease. We are absolutely expecting to pay some lease break fees for the gap between tenants. We are not trying to screw the landlord. But given the rental market here, there's no reason to think he couldn't find a new tenant to pay more rent than we are currently paying, and to move in almost immediately.

As a side, he has been nasty our entire tenancy. The unit was in awful shape when we moved in, and he refused to fix anything and actually blamed us for the damages by claiming we hadn't informed him in time to withhold money from the prior tenants security deposit. He reamed us for calling an emergency plumber when waste water was coming out of our tub, claiming he could have had it done cheaper. But it took him six weeks to schedule a repair for our dishwasher (water was pouring out of it), and four for our dryer that was posing a major fire hazard (vents so backed up with lint it was smelling vaguely like smoke when we used it, cleaners actually stated we were lucky nothing bad had happened due to the lint backup).

Edit: We have paid through the April 15th. Our lease expires May 30th. He has our security deposit, which is equal to 1.5 months rent. So he has in his hands enough money to cover through the end of our lease, as we had predicted he would be difficult.

[NY]Landlord Refusing To Return Security Deposit

    Posted:

I've been trying to get my security deposit back from my landlord. However, they are claiming that I need to provide a receipt or the bank won't return the deposit. Unfortunately, I paid the security deposit with a cashier's check and never got a receipt. How would I go about getting my security deposit back?

I know that technically I can attempt to get my security deposit back through small claims but I'm worried my lack of receipts might make it hard to get my money back.

Edit: Turns out that they have no proof I paid the deposit which is why they want me to provide receipts.

    Thanks for your help!

[Michigan] Took my husband to the ER because he couldn't breathe, and now he's involuntarily committed to a different hospital. What can I do?

    Posted:

    Again, this is in Michigan.

On Monday, I took my husband to the ER. He has bad anxiety that is usually under control, but he was having a severe panic attack and couldn't breathe. We tried the meds we had at home, but none of them worked, so off to the ER we went.

I wasn't allowed back with him, but we were in contact via text message.

He was triaged as a psychiatric patient because he mentioned he was having suicidal ideation. I feel the need to stress that this is common with panic attacks, and the ideation is merely that: ideation. They ultimately said they wanted to hold him overnight. I packed him a bag with some essentials, dropped them off at the main desk, and figured I'd grab him in the morning.

Tuesday morning, we were talking. He said they wanted to transfer him to a different hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. As this hospital doesn't have a psych wing, I didn't really think much of it. The social worker called, asked me some questions about his history, again mentioned they wanted him evaluated by a psychiatrist. She specifically mentioned that, since this hospital doesn't have any psychiatric doctors, he would need to be transferred.

He was transferred Tuesday evening. He seemed in decent spirits. I followed the ambulance so I could get him a new bag of essentials and take his cell phone which, due to his job, cannot be outside of the family. He called me from a patient phone when he was checked in at the new hospital, and seemed a bit down.

Wednesday morning, he called me again. He sounded worse than I had ever heard him sound. He said he wanted to come home. I told him to talk to the nurse, and I'd try and find a partial hospitalization program.

When he called me back, he said that he was told he was there involuntarily and was not allowed to leave. He was having another panic attack while he was on the phone with me. I called the facility and was told they could keep him there for 10 days, that his psychiatrist doesn't speak to family members, that I'm not allowed to see him, and that I'm not allowed to have him transferred to a different psychiatric hospital. I asked about the commitment, and was told the petition was made by an RN, and that the ER doctor "certed" it.

He called again later, and seemed even worse. His health is clearly deteriorating. The charge nurse essentially said they're keeping him under constant sedation, so he's sleeping a lot.

I got in touch with a patient advocate at the hospital, who told me that the hospital can keep him, I cannot get him out of there, I cannot have him transferred to a different hospital, and the most they're going to do is transfer him to a "quieter" wing.

So here are my primary concerns:

    1) The first hospital didn't even treat him for that initial panic attack.

    2) The initial hospital intake was so bad that the intake nurse didn't even list him as being married. Considering he was present at the birth of our child at this same hospital last year, this seems like an incredible oversight.

    3) At no point were either of us made aware this was an involuntary commitment. If I'm reading correctly, Michigan law says he should have been given the option to register voluntarily, so this seems like something we should have been alerted to.

    4) The information I found on the state of Michigan's website also says he should have been appointed a lawyer to advocate for him and that he has the right to a trial. This hasn't happened, and has not been mentioned to either of us.

    5) Psychiatric hospitals in Michigan have not been reporting COVID stats to the state. His presence there is putting him and the rest of our family at risk, and we have an infant at home.

What are my options for getting him out of the hospital? Does it seem like we have a case, either against the initial hospital or the psychiatric one? What kind of lawyer would I need to speak to? Do I have to just sit back and continue to watch him deteriorate? I'm honestly terrified that this is going to kill him, either by worsening his mental health, by COVID, or both.

I smashed a screen on a HRT(high reach forklift truck)

    Posted:

So short story here is that I was operating on a forklift the other day with a damaged screen. The truck its self is operatable but the monitor on the truck was very pixilated and has been like that for a long time. So the truck usual gets left and is only used as a last resort. Which was the case for me. Taking advice from some people who have used the truck in the past were to hit to screen and pixels will go for a second, enough to see what location I need to go in the warehouse to carry out my job. Unluckily for me ive hit it abit too hard and the screen has smashed. I parked the truck in the default area in the warehouse and filled out an accident form. My manager asked me about it when the engineer brought it up a few hours later after inspecting it. I told him the screen was already damaged and didnt really elaborate on me hitting it with force. I've not heard anything in a few days now and I have no idea whether its being investigated. I'm really anxious and have been on edge since it happened. I obviously don't want to loose my job but I fear this is a serious case and that I dont have a leg to stand on.

[SC] What is needed to file a do not contact order or something similar/better against my Mother.

    Posted:

I'm a married man with kids. My mother over the past couple years has become increasingly difficult to manage. She makes demands of seeing her grandkids and if there is a gap in visitation for any reason she goes off the deep end and knows no boundaries. This by itself would not be anything new but she recently went to my spouses work and caused a massive scene making demands of both us and the kids. My wife works in a field where public image matters a fair amount so I was especially angry. What sparked this issue was that I wasn't home when they (mom and step dad) visited my house unannounced and didn't believe we (me and the kids) were out running errands. After this event I all but stopped talking to my Mother as this is not the first example of unreasonable expectations and crossing boundaries. Y'all might be thinking this is harsh, but I could write ten paragraphs about how she has actively tried to destroy my marriage, instructed my kids to lie and disobey rules regarding safety, drinking heavily while watching my kids around her pool, accusing my in-laws of being drug addicts and prostitutes (not sure why, they are good people and even after those accusations they have been nothing short of kind to her), and an endless amount of lies that I cannot find a reason for. Speaking with family about this, they say her lying and manipulation dates back to her early adulthood.

Anyway, I have given her hundreds of chances to rectify what is wrong with her life and our relationship. She has repeatedly lied about being sober, refuses to speak with a medical professional regarding mental health, and as of last night threatened to "air out [my wife an I's] dirty laundry" if they don't get to have my kids. After sending a message stating "I don't appreciate being threatened. Consider this an official do not contact request. If you try to contact me and my wife again I will be forced to pursue legal action." To which I recieved the response "Sue me big shot."

I don't know why they think suing them was on my agenda at all. I'm at my wits end with my mom and her husband and want something to legally end the harassment. Reading online, it mostly says that do no contact orders are for victims of domestic violence. So I'm asking this: What is the right approach to legally enforce her leaving us alone that is also eventually reversible? If you feel the examples provided aren't grounds for anything, I have a laundry list of other events causing me to reach this point.

Thank you for any and all help you folks can provide.

[CA] I am a landlord and a tennant has 2 vicious pitbulls

    Posted:

I have a house with 3 rooms in it. One person manages getting roommates and they each have their own lease with me. The property manager let in someone with 3 dogs total, 2 of them being pitbulls. She now is begging me to get her out. The dogs are so vicious, ive already had a complaint from a neighbor that they attacked him and he had to beat them back with his walker. Also the mailman refuses to deliver mail becuase of the dogs. They have to pick it up at the post office until they sign a document saying the dogs will be locked up during the day. Also according to the other 2 rommates they dogs bark an insane amount and very loudly. I have personally met these dogs(from the other side of the gate) and they are vicious. There is nothing on the lease about pets. Also rommates report she very seldomly cleans up the dogs poop also they poop in the house far too often.

Ive already sent her a 3 day cure or quit for breaching a few things on the lease about cleanliness and peace and quiet and her nuisance animals.

At this point im giving her an eviction notice, but my question is if i can get some kind of emergency order to have the dogs removed immediately. She can stay obviously through the eviction process but is there a way to have the dogs out quicker?
