Posted: 05 Apr 2021 08:43 AM PDT My sister and I are staying at a hotel in Las Vegas. We don't have a dog with us. This morning we got a call from the hotel and they accused us of having a dog. I told them we didn't have one. We don't. She said they heard a dog barking. We were silently sleeping. I got off the phone with her and figured that was the end of it. After, my sister got a call from her boyfriend. They tried to charge us an extra $275. His card declined the charge. So, we called the front desk. She again accused us of having a dog. We offered to let her search our room, she declined. Then she said "your card got declined anyway you can't afford it!". Then she hung up on us. They have no evidence we have a dog. They also just took our deposit. What can we do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:08 PM PDT I feel like I answered my own question with the title, but want to know if I'm being paranoid or not. My father had an acquaintance (17 year old girl, he was a few years older) who went missing in the late 1970s. She was never found and the case has been completely unsolved since. The other day my parents got a knock on the door, and it was a detective who asked to speak with my father. From what my dad told me, he essentially asked for all of my father's recollections about this woman. My dad told the cop everything he remembered about the woman, which isn't much, and the cop left without anything happening. The cop did tell my dad why he paid the visit, which is apparently because one of my dad's former friends called the police station and said my dad might have information about her disappearance. This former friend is a nut and a conspiracy theorist who has an axe to grind against my dad, so we think he's just trying to screw with my dad by siccing the cops on him for no reason. Another officer called my dad today and asked him to "come down to the station" this coming Friday morning. We have no idea why, they apparently just want to "discuss it further" with him. I'm going to call the state's bar association tomorrow to get in touch with a criminal defense lawyer. I don't know if I'm being paranoid or not, but the whole thing reeks to me and I admittedly don't trust cops in general. I basically don't want my dad to get screwed. Is it too much to go in with a lawyer for something like this? [link] [comments] |
Do I have any legal recourse? My SSN is attached to someone else's arrest warrant. Posted: 05 Apr 2021 09:33 AM PDT I'm a female Ohio resident and my social security number is attached to warrant out of a police department in Texas for a male. My local PD thinks that during an arrest, this individual just rattled off numbers (which happens to be my ssn) and the TX PD kept it. I have the name of the individual, which is apparently a common name down there near the border, and I know which PD it is. My local PD contacted the TX PD and was told they would not remove my ssn from the warrant until this man is caught. And they basically said, don't hold your breath. The issue is that I got pulled over when a Sheriff was randomly checking plates and when my plate was ran, this warrant came up. This is for someone marked as armed, extremely dangerous, approach with caution. I don't want to keep getting pulled over or God forbid, my fiance gets pulled over while driving my car. I definitely don't want a misunderstanding with the police during a traffic stop. So I want this resolved. I've spoken with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, FBI, the TX PD, and my local PD. There appears to be no solution. Not sure if getting lawyer to file a petition would help? Any advice is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Someone stole my military photo and said I tragically died to collect money Posted: 05 Apr 2021 11:36 AM PDT I live in Los Angeles California. And The ex husband of my mom stole my military graduation photo and made flyers and posters "in memory of" me stating I died a tragic death. The city even helped him coordinate a fundraiser/car show in my name. I've been asking around for more information as I recently found out all of this was going on. But once people found out I'm not really dead, they got spooked off and no longer want to help. And I was wondering if something like this is illegal and can I press charges? Can anyone help me? Can I vaccinate without other parent’s consent? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:23 AM PDT So my ex and I have been divorced since 2015. We have joint custody (shared legal decision making on everything). He is refusing to honor this and does not include me on any decisions. He also has not allowed me to see them since August. I am taking him to court over this, and hoping to get them for the summer then go from there. Two jurisdictions involved: he lives in TX (where the legal case is), I live in TN (where they would be saying when I want to get them vaccinated). He is completely anti-vax, and they have never received any vaccines (11 & 12). I used to be, then did research after leaving him and have changed my stance. Can I get them vaccinated when they come visit me, without his permission? [link] [comments] |
My Land is Sliding Into Neighbor's Yard, What Can I Do? [WA State] Posted: 05 Apr 2021 10:18 AM PDT My house was built in the 70s and my neighbor's in 90s. Neither of us are the original owners of our respective properties, but I've lived in mine longer than my current neighbors (bought 2014). My neighbor's lot is directly east of me, so our boundary is my eastern property line. There is a ~6ft hill down to my neighbor's land that runs N-S along the whole eastern property line maybe 200ft or so. The northeast corner of my property appears to have been sliding down into my neighbor's since their land was graded to build the house in the 90s. I have a LIDAR image from the county GIS that shows pretty clearly the land sliding, and my shed on that corner is also sloping downward. The southeast portion has a retaining wall and shows no movement, I guess the developers didn't think they needed to extend it the full length of the property as the northeast part has trees/shrubs on it? So now I want to build another structure in that area but I'm worried that will accelerate the slide. I've attempted to talk with them about the issue but they said it wasn't their problem and I needed to take care of it on my side. These neighbors have shown they think they can do whatever they want on their land (multiple code violations since they moved in, not reported by me), just to describe their attitude. They are also part of an HOA (I am not) that was formed when other properties were built around their existing house a few years ago. From what I've been able to find it should be the property owner who's land was graded that needs to mitigate the issue. I know it's a tricky issue since it happened so long ago and neither of us were aware of the defect when we purchased the properties, I certainly wasn't. What recourse do I have if my neighbor continues to give me the finger? [link] [comments] |
Someone we considered a friend stole from us. What can we do? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 03:45 AM PDT I (23F) had a get together at my house that was only supposed to consist of about 5 people total but my roommate (31M) also decided to have a couple of friends over so it turned into a shindig I didn't expect. We all got pretty drunk and honestly I had a great time. Until, of course, the next day when my boyfriend (27M) and I plan to get some coffee and realize his wallet is missing. We walk out of the house to see a few of his debit cards in the street in random places. As soon as we saw them in the street we knew someone took his wallet. We were pissed to say the least, but we knew exactly who took it. We try to call our "friend" (we'll call him Jay for the sake of the story) but his phone was off or we were blocked. After some searching, we find my boyfriend's wallet in the side yard of the house. At this point, we were still mad because someone other than my boyfriend obviously put it there, but we were relieved and went on about our day. Until, that is, my boyfriend went upstairs to play Warzone and realized his controller was gone. We looked everywhere and it was nowhere to be found. The whole night only one person went upstairs (other than myself, my boyfriend and our roommate) and that was our wonderful friend Jay. My AirPods had also gone missing. We were finally able to get ahold of Jay and he denied taking anything. Luckily, we have a doorbell camera that caught him with some suspicious items in his pockets. We also decided to drive to his house and sit outside to see what would happen and what do you know?! My AirPods magically and mysteriously connected to my phone. I'm so mad, I've never had anything like this happen to me. I feel so violated knowing that someone went snooping through our house and stole our stuff. I feel disrespected. We don't even know what else was taken. I really don't know what to do at this point. I feel like it might come down to a "he said/she said" in a legal aspect, especially since the items in question really aren't of that much value in the eyes of the law. Any advice, tips, or guidance would be greatly appreciated. We want our stuff back, we want our peace, and we want to make sure this never happens again. [link] [comments] |
Unpaid labor for required preparation for shift - Is it legal? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:49 AM PDT USA - MA. My gf works for a waxing chain where they only have one pair of store keys. They make the front desk workers pick up the keys the day before each opening shift. I have no idea why they don't just provide copies of keys to everyone who regularly opens, and according to her it's been like this without any budge from the owner despite everyone wanting this policy to change. Besides the inconvenience, the workers aren't being paid to travel to the store each time before they work an opening shift to pick up the store keys. Is this legal? Is there anything that can be done? [link] [comments] |
(Michigan) My cousin’s baby daddy took her daughter and won’t give her back. Her daughter is 7 Posted: 05 Apr 2021 10:48 AM PDT He isn't on her birth certificate as her father and he doesn't have partially custody or anything of her. We don't know where he lives because he moved and police won't help. We have police in the family and they said there's nothing that can be done, it's just a waiting game to see if he'll bring her back. She isn't attending school while she's there either so I was thinking maybe a truancy thing could allow police to get involved. My cousin also knows that she can take him to court, but she doesn't have the money to pay for it so she's looking for other options first. [link] [comments] |
Company keeps sending me snail mail after I called and asked them to stop. Posted: 05 Apr 2021 02:07 PM PDT Company XYZ was sending a lot of junk mail to my apartment, so I called and asked them to stop. They said they couldn't stop because they were sending it on behalf of someone else's account - the previous resident, and that the previous resident would have to contact them. I obviously have no way of contacting the previous resident. A month later, and I'm still getting the junk mail. Can I sue? [Northeast United States] [link] [comments] |
Maid sent to re-clean a house and did not get paid for re-clean Posted: 05 Apr 2021 03:02 PM PDT My sister works for Merry Maids in Indiana and was sent to clean a large house with a partner. The owner complained about the cleaning, and my sister was sent the next day to clean it again. She is paid a percentage of the cleaning cost. However, Merry Maids is not paying her for the 4 hours she spent re-doing it; they're only reimbursing her for mileage. Is this wage theft? She should at least receive hourly for this? So she will be missing a day on her paycheck although she spent the day cleaning. Side note, her partner (Which she mostly blames for the complaint in the first place) was sent to clean a new house and therefore made money that day. [link] [comments] |
[NH] Can I lose my job due to needing to do military duties? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 12:46 PM PDT Hey Reddit. So background. I'm a US Marine currently serving in a reserve unit, and I live and work out of New Hampshire. In a reserve unit, I am essentially a regular person 95% of the time. One weekend a month and 2 weeks out of the summer I do military stuff. Otherwise I live a normal life, and I have a normal job. Due to Covid-19, my units schedule in regards to doing drill is subject to change, and the changes are typically given to me last minute. Now, I have a drill upcoming and I've recieved yet another last minute notice for drill. I sent the relevant information to my job and they said they need 2 weeks notice or it's not excused. So me going to drill, which I am obligated to do will result in me losing my job. I told my chain of command and they know what's going on and I've called the department of labor, but I'm hopeful someone in here can give me some advice and hopefully some reassurance that I won't lose my job in the middle of the pandemic. Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Apr 2021 11:46 AM PDT Just to be very clear I have been to two therapists, spoken to my very level headed father and about a dozen other people agree this child resembles me VERY closely, and he was born between 8-10 months after I was at a party and COMPLETELY blacked out for 8 hours after nothing but 5 beers and woke up flat on my back in a strange place with a nearly naked, very happy woman on top of me (I have never slept on my back once in 31 years no matter how fucked up) and a man right next to me to boot to give you the very short version of the story. I've never discovered what all happened and frankly I do not want to know. I could write all day about other details but I'd rather not type a novel about what happened. I know in my heart and soul this is my child and not one person over the years could tell me who the father was nor would anyone involved ever talk about what happened that night and at this point it has devolved to the two people literally telling me that I'm imagining this but still admit the fact I woke up between them.... That is what they've reduced there excuses to as they've nothing better to say. What can I do? What options do I have? I am not trying to drop into this persons life like a lighting bolt nor blow up the world but frankly I do not know what to do and this is eating me alive as you can imagine. At this point I feel that a child has a RIGHT to know who his father is IF he wants to know. Please help me. Edit... To be clear I have forgiven these people as much as I can and will continue to try to do so over the years. To say there souls are a pile of dog shit and they already live disgusting lives is an understatement so I have NO interest in any criminal or revenge type of stuff even if It could be proved. I just don't care. I'm moving on with my life. I just want to know what my options are on the other points. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2021 12:38 PM PDT On good friday, my grandma's neighbors verbally harassed her and said they shoot her cats because they are mad she won't let them use her private road anymore. We caught the incident on camera. Original post with the camera footage. https://www.reddit.com/r/extremelyinfuriating/comments/mk2rjq/having_to_watch_through_security_cameras_states/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share I'm not looking to be petty or get revenge, I want to make sure they never ever come on my grandma's property, do anything to her, her property, or her animals again. My sister called her yesterday and my grandma said she was afraid to go outside. My grandma has largely avoided the neighbors/doesn't retaliate (like not saying anything when they've used the road in the past or when things have gone missing) because she doesn't want to escalate anything. My family is states away, so my mom feels the same way because she doesn't want them retaliating against her mom (my grandma). But it's been escalated (in my mind). My sister and I feel helpless because we don't know how to ensure my grandma's security from these people. I don't know if my grandma would pursue legal action or not. She's 91, so she just tries to keep to herself and avoid stress. My cousin asked about a restarting order. I just don't know what avenues there are or how to pursue them. This is the first incident we've caught on camera. We installed the cameras last summer because the female neighbor was in my grandma's garage one day, she had no reason to be in there. My grandma thinks she took things, but we'll never know. Backstory of the incident: my grandma paid to get her road resealed last fall. When the company sealed it, they roped off the road. My grandma left the rope up at the end of the road because she didn't want the neighbors driving on the road (it's expensive to maintain). They would drive through her road to get to their driveway even though they have access from their street. They would let their friends park on her road, a couple times preventing my grandma from getting out of her driveway with her car. Their son would speed down the road, he almost hit me once. And when my family would visit, if our cars were blocking them from getting through, they would demand we move the vehicles for them. At one point the man yelling drove in my grandma's yard to get around a vehicle. So my grandma was tired of it and left a rope up. They bullied my grandma into saying she would take the rope down in the winter because they wouldn't be able to get in their driveway (their drive is on an incline). In the 30 years my grandma has lived there, none of the maybe 8 different families that have lived in that house have relied on her road to get into their drive in the winter. When she left the rope up this winter, they got in their drive just fine (I was there for a month, so I saw them parked at the top of their drive every day). After it snowed a little, the neighbor woman came over and demanded that my grandma remove the rope or she would have to park on her own street (how horrible?!?). My grandma said she'd take it down after it had snowed enough that she needed to plow (which she also pays for herself with no help from them even though they benefit). I saw part of the encounter on the cameras. My husband and I were in town, so we went and talked to the neighbor. She played the victim and acted like her life was ruined because she couldn't use my grandma's road, told a couple lies, then dismissed us. After that encounter, my grandma decided she wasn't going to take it down because they were so rude to her. So that's what the guy was yelling at her about initially. [link] [comments] |
My ex wants to take me to small claims court. Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:04 AM PDT Hi all, Back in 2019 I moved in with with my ex bf after losing my home due to a natural disaster. Everything was going fine until he started exhibiting abusive behaviors. I then decided to move out on my own and part ways. He then shows up to my home and starts threatening to out me as trans to my family if I didn't sign a contract stating I owe him nearly 4K. I was worried so I paid him money here and there just to have him leave me alone and not out me to my family. I then stopped paying him because I felt that I shouldn't have to do this since he was the reason our relationship ended. Last week, he contacts me via email saying that if I don't pay him again, he's going to file in small claims court. My only worry is that now he's going to harass my family about this as well and cause me to out myself to my family before he does it. He basically made me sign the contract under pressure so do I have any hope of not having to deal with him or see him in court? I am located in the United States in Ohio [link] [comments] |
Getting shafted by insurance and car dealership, stand to lose $10k Posted: 05 Apr 2021 01:43 PM PDT So this situation is pretty crazy and very overwhelming, I'm just really in need of advice. The story starts on March 2, 2021. My wife has been looking for a new van for her business since the old one had become more expensive to maintain than it is worth to us. By this point we don't have the old van, nor another vehicle, and have no current insurance policy due to those conditions. She found one she fell in love with (2014 Ford Transit Connect XLT), so on her birthday we went to a local dealership to check it out. Overall it looks great, it fits her needs, but it needed the radio repaired/replaced. I put down a deposit on it contingent on a repair and pickup once ready to go. Great. Fast forward to March 10, 2021, got a call that the van is ready to be picked up so we head over to finalize the deal. We get there, they say they replaced the radio but couldn't fix the issue and offer us $500 off to get it repaired at a shop afterwards. At this point she needs a van for business to continue as she has been out of one for a couple months, so we talk it over and agree that she can live without a radio in the meantime and proceed to pay the remaining balance in cash. This is our first time every buying anything at a dealer, and we left without getting our own insurance; the dealer informed us (verbally) that we had 24 hours to get it and we would be fine. It was late at night, I had work in the morning, whatever; I should have done it then and there to avoid all of this mess, but I thought I was okay. Next day, March 11, 2021. Around 2:30 PM I take my lunch and put insurance on it (online), 10 seconds after I had it done (or so I thought), she heads out the door. Here's where things get a little crazy. About a half mile down the road from our house, she gets into an accident. She was okay overall, accident happened about 100 feet past pulling away from a stop sign. To her account, the van started beeping, throwing error messages on the screen in the form of "My Key" something or other, and then the accelerator stopped immediately, jarring the wheel to the right, and causing her to hop a curb and crash into one of those concrete light poles. Crap, sorry city. Police come, do their thing, she goes to hospital to get checked out, I go back up the street home and call insurance. They said the policy is so new that they have to input the claim manually, that's fine, I just got insurance on it 30 minutes ago, I get it. Following day, March 12, 2021, I go to the tow yard where the police brought the van to do a virtual inspection as directed by insurance. Goes fine for the most part, took awhile to connect but whatever, I have nowhere to be. I get an email minutes after concluding the inspection: "It as a pleasure meeting you today, and thank you for your help inspecting your 2014 Ford Transit van. As we discussed, (Insurance company's name) will handle moving the vehicle out of the tow yard and providing you a payment for the vehicle value. To expedite this process you will release the vehicle at the tow yard and you will send me a photo of your purchase invoice which will clearly show the date of purchase and the amount paid. Please just attach this as a reply to this e-mail. Also, I did not get the name of the tow yard where your vehicle is located. Please provide the name of the tow company, and phone if possible. Once I have these things from you, I will recontact you and we will conclude the claim. Thank you!" I did as directed by this claims adjuster(?), released the vehicle to the insurance company, provided the name and phone number of the tow yard, and went about my life. Weekend goes by and I hear nothing, as is expected. Monday morning, March 15, 2021, I get a request from insurance asking for the purchase invoice from the dealership since I bought it so recently. I oblige, provide requested documentation, and carry on. Three days later (March 17th) I get a call from another department, something along the lines of liability investigator. Supposedly they claim I had selected my policy to start on March 18th (I never selected a date nor had an option to do so). I deny it and repeatedly state that I did not select that date, since I hadn't; this leads me to believe that there was an autofilled date that I missed. I checked back on the documents on the online portal at this point, since no documentation was provided to me at time of purchase. They have a copy of what I signed that did have the March 18th date, but I don't recall that being a date of mention prior to this phone call; I never would have initiated a policy to start a week after getting a car that was intended to be driven immediately. I hear nothing until March 24th, saying they won't cover my claim. At this point I request a copy of my keystrokes indicating that I did in fact select that as the start date. I got a letter on April 3rd, 2021 dated March 28th, mailed March 31st reiterating that they won't cover the claim. I'm frantic right now, I'm out $10,000 in cash and I'm by no means rich, not even well off. I invested pretty much everything I have to try to get my wife this vehicle to advance her very new business. Do I have any options here? What should I do? I'm located in San Diego, California [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 07:02 PM PDT I just moved into a rental with a 40 year old range. I went to turn on the stove top burner and an electrical short blew up in my face. I am a licensed electrician and I know handyman work when I see it. Under the stovetop someone had "repaired" the wire with a wire connector not approved to withstand stovetop temperatures. The plastic melted off of the connector and the metal inside shorted to the metal housing. The property management company denies ever working on the appliance and they won't replace or repair it because the appliances are a privilege and we have to replace it. How are they not responsible for the repairs made to it? My SO refuses to use it and I'm sacred to see what other shoddy work has been done not to mention only 1 small burner works now [link] [comments] |
[NJ] My hospital is telling staff we have to come in despite being covid positive. Posted: 05 Apr 2021 02:58 PM PDT I work in a psych hospital in new jersey. A colleague tested positive and I'm currently waiting for my results. We are both symptomatic. Hospital admin is telling us that because we got the vaccine, we don't have to quarantine. They're also saying positive test results are because of the vaccine (which we got in January). CDC doesn't back any of these claims. Hospital admin is saying testing positive doesn't matter, we have to come in. I've reported this to the state health department, the corporate compliance hotline, OSHA, and the joint commission. Apparently multiple reports have been made to these agencies over the past year but I believe this is the first time they're flat out telling us to come in when we test positive. If it makes a difference, my hospital also operates a long term elder care facility out of the same building. Patients and residents never interact but housekeeping, maintenance, security, dietary, etc all service both facilities. There are a pile of ethical violations here but is any of this illegal? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:51 AM PDT The two-unit house that I live in has a detached garage with two spots, as well as another, more inconvenient spot alongside the garage. In the lease for my unit, it states that one of the two garage spots belongs to my unit. According to one of the tenants in the other unit, their lease does not reference parking whatsoever. The two tenants in the other unit park in the two garage spots, making my roommate park in the inconvenient side spot regularly. Even after being asked to move by my unit, as well as the landlord, they continue to take both garage spots even though we have the rights to one of them. Is there any legal action I can take? How serious is a landlord entering property without giving tenant notice? Posted: 05 Apr 2021 01:00 PM PDT I live in the state of AZ. I have throughly read my lease and it explicitly says my landlord must give 48 hour notice before entering the property (excludes if we make a maintenance request and/or the landlord has reason to believe the property or tenant is in immediate danger). Recently the landlord has just been popping by the apartment to inspect the condition of everything without giving any notice. I am wondering if this is a valid reason to break my lease because I feel like this a complete lack of privacy and I am tired of feeling violated. Thanks for any advice [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 02:07 PM PDT Writing on behalf of my parents. My father had the pleasure of meeting the first three people to visit two weeks ago claiming they used to live there in the 2000s and left some items they need back. Dad told them to go away and it's his house now, the right response I think. The actual previous owner owned the house since the late 1970s until mid 2014 when my parents bought it. Just last weekend another couple came around making a similar claim but they were VERY pushy, threatened to do my father for theft, threatened to bring the police around, and told Dad he probably knew exactly why they were there. Dad pushed back and demanded they tell him precisely what they thought they wanted from inside the house, but they wouldn't tell him anything specific. One of them let slip something like they'd know when they found 'it'. They didn't get anywhere or do anything like phone police and left. I'm running scenarios around in my head that when the previous owner died he had a will that left people something really valuable that was hidden in my parents house. What would their responsibility be if there was something hidden in the house and left in a will? Do my mother and father own it? would that depend on the value? if it was unknown at time of purchase does its ownership stay with the previous owner? Is there a blanket way to stop people coming to the door and being pushy like the last couple? I guess that's not possible without armed guards but maybe if we had a copy of the will it could be resolved or worked around. Are wills public? My father plans to tell the next people to visit that he knows what they're looking for and it's been sold but I don't think that's a good course of action. I don't know if the item even exists or if it's something like great grandpa's forgotten childhood sled or a bank robbery from fifty years ago with proceeds packed in the walls. Imagination goes wild, but there's something that some multiple someones think is there. I'm especially worried about how pushy they might get if they get my mother alone, as she's not as forceful as my father. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2021 01:49 PM PDT I posted a video of me getting hit by a car and surviving on Reddit (in 3 subreddit). It went pretty viral. TMZ, without asking my permission or providing compensation, took my video and made an article about it. Is this legal? Location : USA [link] [comments] |
