Can mortgage company place me on Lenders Placed Insurance with no warning? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 10:55 PM PDT Back in 2019 October, I purchased my house in Eagle River, Alaska. Everything was good for the first year. In Octover 2020, my mortgage company informs me that I had been placed on Lenders Placed Insurance for $250 a month, for the first 12 months. The amount was charged to my Escrow account, and was never taken out until October 2020 in a lump sum. I complained to the mortgage company and to Better Buisines Bureau that I was never notified and there was no way for me to know I was being charged a surplus amount of $3000 a year vs my insurance with geico of $600 a year as this money was being billed to my escrow, not my monthly payment. When they wrote me back on BBB, they said they mailed me 3 times giving me notice I was being placed on this insurance. They admitted they mailed it to my old address in NC. So again, I was never notified. I have a VA loan which means that I have to occupy the residents for at least 6 months. Not only that, but I have 3 separate documents, from the closing documents with my real estate agent, saying that I will be residing in this residence as my permanent residence. 2 documents saying this will be my residence and 1 document titled "Mailing Address Form" with my address. This company has charged me $3000 and already taken the amount from my escrow and my monthly has now gone up $400 to repay my escrow. Do I have grounds to dispute this charge as they negligently mailed the notices to the wrong address and never gave me notice? I know there was a lapse in coverage, I'm not arguing why the placed me on this. I want to dispute the charges without me being notified because I would have fixed this situation on month 1 if I had known, but I didn't so it went on for 12 months and then I found out. Since I found out on month 12 and not month 1, the difference is $2750. Tdlr: mortgage company charged me surplus amount for lenders placed insurance without ever notifying me. $3000 yearly for LPI vs $600 geico yearly. Never knew about it till they pulled it from escrow after a year of being charged. [link] [comments] |
Hit By an Uninsured Driver Now Fighting My Insurance Company. Need Advice. Posted: 28 Apr 2021 01:38 AM PDT I purchased a car around last thanksgiving after doing an extensive amount of research and searching for several months, I made an 800 mile round trip and trailered the car home. It was only a 2013, but the newest I have ever owned. I added the vehicle to my business policy as it was to be used for a roadside assistance business I had started In addition to my primary business. I ended up being struck by a drunk driver 12 days after I bought the car. They were found to be 100% at fault. They failed to stop coming off the interstate and struck my car doing something like 50 mph. It was a pretty nasty scene and was a big enough ordeal to make the local news. Their car flipped and caught on fire. My car spun around and was pushed halfway up the entrance ramp adjacent to the one they came off of. I was fortunate to walk away with some nasty cuts and bruises but avoided the ER as I am immune compromised and was at the time unvaccinated. I am still working through the neck/ back problems, near constant dizziness and issues with memory mood and concentration in physical therapy. I was diagnosed with concussion and post concussion syndrome. The issue I am having is that my insurance companies attitude went from "Don't worry everything will be taken care of , to not even wanting to give me, what i believe is a fair price for my car. I feel that the valuation that I was given is less than fair. It represents a car with base options, when mine has the top trim package. The MSRP on the statement significantly lower than the one I found from several sources online. It assumes the cars condition was average and even attempts to say that stains in the car and dents or dings are from anything other than the accident. I sent evidence to the contrary along with several listings with similiar vehicles being sold for approximately what I felt my car was worth. The adjusters response was that I could hire an independent evaluator. Can someone please advise me? I have no idea how to do that. I admit that I am very ignorant about insurance. This has been a very painful and expensive lesson. I thought that buying all the coverage I could would cover me. I was told that I was not allowed to carry uimpd because it was overlapping coverage with my collision. So I am being told all my tools that were thrown from the vehicle and broken will not be covered, as well as the tow bill I paid myself because I did not want the car to be impounded with my property inside. Do I need a lawyer? I only had 25000/50000 UIMBI So there is not really a payday here in any case. Maybe I should take the experience with the car as a guide to how the medical claim will go. So far my medical insurance has been picking up the PT and doctors visits. I think I would probably be lucky to have the full amount cover that, let alone anything left over. I have not been able to work since the accident and I suppose I just take that as a lesson as well. Although I am not sure what lesson that would be. Going after the other driver seems pointless as they seem to have absolutely nothing. I am just not really sure what to do with any of this, and so I haven't really done anything. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you to anyone who actually took the time to read all this. [link] [comments] |
Someone said I scratched their car but I didn't Posted: 27 Apr 2021 09:59 AM PDT So I got a note on my windshield that said that I scratched this person's car on Friday afternoon. My boyfriend and I share this car and he had it on Friday but we drove home together since he picked me up. We park in a little street close to our apartment, and never had any issues. Our car is pretty scratched already(from other situations from a while ago), not a ton but enough to see it has had a few experiences. Anyways, so we were going for a walk this morning (Tuesday) and there was a note on our windshield saying that we scratched this person's car on Friday afternoon and then we walked past them but didn't say anything. It then says that they have photos of their car, our car and our license plate + they left the note because that's what the police suggested they do. First of all, neither my boyfriend or me recall scratching any car, and walking past anyone in particular on Friday. However, on Saturday, we went to park in the same spot and someone was following us, they kinda waited for us to get out of the car but we thought they might be thinking we were leaving and they wanted our spot. We were just finishing eating something in the car so eventually they left so that's what I think could've been that person (or not, I really don't know) They left their number and first name on the note and asked us to call them. It said something like " call us to give us more info for the insurance." and then, in a bit that was scribbled on top of it, it says "otherwise...". I don't really know what to do. I'm a bit worried and annoyed at the same time. I don't like that someone has my plate number and thinks that we scratched their car. Any advice? Edit ; Qc/canada [link] [comments] |
Got rear ended by a car at traffic light, how do I minimize financial damages? [NJ] Posted: 27 Apr 2021 07:37 PM PDT I got rear ended at 50mph by a cargo van at a traffic light. Both cars are totaled and me and the other driver both went to the hospital with minor injuries. I live in a no fault state (NJ), so I ran two quotes after I got back from the hospital. It went from $80 (no accident) to $130 (with the accident). Over 5 years that is a $3000 difference. Is there any way to avoid paying this much, or at least recoup the extra costs from the other driver? Can I not file a claim with my insurance, and just settle with the other guys insurance, and use private health insurance, and not tell my insurance about the accident? [link] [comments] |
Driver Hit Me & I’m Considered At Fault Posted: 28 Apr 2021 12:08 AM PDT Hello everyone! This is my first Reddit post and I'm kind of really desperate for some help or advice because I don't know what to do.. I was in a car accident back in June of 2020 within the San Fernando Valley, CA : I was driving down a two way street with 2 lanes and at the corner of the block where the accident occurred there is a right turning lane that opens up about 100 feet or so from the light. The vehicle that hit me was in line at this turning lane and I was going straight down the road approx 20- 25 MPH (my light was green and there was a bit of traffic) on the right lane. The other driver was attempting to merge back into the straight lanes and ends up hitting me on my right side. Immediately we both pulled into a nearby parking lot to see the damages. My car sustained a few small scratches but nothing was visibly damaged on my car. As for the guy that hit me, he was physically fine, I eventually made sure that he was alright and he verbally confirmed everything was good but his car took the harder hit, the front-left side of his vehicle was crunched up a bit. Immediately I was hysterical and in a full on panic because full disclosure; my drivers license was expired (I did not renew it because of COVID, local DMV was closed with no known reopen dates at the time and I am not eligible to renew online). Because my license was expired I took the [very stupid] decision of excluding myself from mine and my husband's insurance around 3 days before the incident. Please note that I took myself off the insurance because I received an email from the "Underwriting Department" of my insurance that if I did not renew my license, they would cancel the policy, which would leave my husband uninsured and he uses the car 98% of the time. So, here I am April of 2021 and I just received a subrogation letter from the other party's insurance, claiming that I'm responsible and they are trying to recoup the damages paid out to their insured. I am freaking out and I don't know what to do. When the accident happened me and the guy verbally established that he was a fault because he hit me, but I also know that I shouldn't have been driving in the first place and I do understand how that would make me at fault. However I desperately cannot afford to pay anything right now. Literally at this very moment my husband and I have approximately $12 in our bank account. The subrogation letter I received asks me to make a check payable to their company and mail it in but it doesn't tell me a dollar amount. I was thinking of calling the phone number on the letter to ask what the amount was and then see if I could maybe put it on a credit card if I absolutely HAVE TO pay. But I already have a large credit card debt stacked up trying to get bills paid during a pandemic and I would rather avoid this at all costs. I'm not completely against paying this, because I can understand how the blame is on me and I don't have the money to get a lawyer for his. Really, I just don't know if I have a choice but to try and pay it. TL;DR : I got into a car accident where the guy hit me but his insurance is considering me at fault (most likely because I didn't have a valid license at the time) and I just got a subrogation letter in the mail asking me to pay for damages. I don't know what my option are or what I could do because I can't afford to pay or take any legal action. . Serious replies only PLEASE ! Please don't scold me in the responses, I know how irresponsible some of the decisions I made were.. this was a year ago.. we were in a pandemic.. I didn't think I would be driving much and this accident happened on the way to visit my mom who lives exactly 8 minutes down the street from me..I thought it would be an simple drive like always..I was a fool, I know. And for anyone who is curious, yes, I renewed my license and am back on the insurance now. I'm generally a safe driver, I've only ever gotten 1 ticket and that was because I forgot to put my college parking pass on the windshield when I was running late. [link] [comments] |
(Canada) Coverage with no contract?? LF advice Posted: 27 Apr 2021 11:25 PM PDT I am in Canada and a bit over a year ago I signed up for health and dental insurance with Manulife. Through a bunch of factors (long wait times for email replies, them sending the contract to the wrong address, and me forgetting about it), I still haven't signed a contract - however, they have continued to withdraw the monthly premium from my account for over a year. After my last email interaction with them, I am considering surrendering my policy as that seems to be the only way for them to stop withdrawing the money (but I could be wrong). I'm wondering, however, whether the past year of withdrawals will count toward that thing with insurance where after a certain amount of years, more of the claim will be covered? As in if I were to finally receive the contract soon and sign it, would my past year of payments mean that I would be covered for a higher percentage of claim payments? If not, is there any way to make it so they stop taking my money when I'm not getting anything back for it?? [link] [comments] |
Bought home, discovered hail damage Posted: 27 Apr 2021 07:40 AM PDT Background: In May 2020, our area suffered a significant hail storm which caused damage to many roofs in the neighborhood. I bought my house in December 2020, and the roof damage was NOT found by my home inspector. It was found this month by a roof inspector as part of general maintenance performed. Typically, hail claims are required to be filed within 1 year of the event. Here's my issue. That hail storm was in May 2020. I didn't buy this house until December 2020. The previous owners did not file a claim. Is there any way I have a valid homeowners insurance claim, or is this strictly a pre-existing condition? Do I have any recourse at all? [link] [comments] |
State Farm Continued Failure To Respond To Roof / Siding Claim Posted: 27 Apr 2021 07:34 AM PDT On October 27th, 2020 my roof incurred damage from hurricane Zeta. Where I live in north Georgia, we sustained 70MPH winds that evening. This resulted in losing a portion of my roof cap as well as shingles on the back of the roof (which I immediately had tarped), and having my hardi-plank siding pull up in multiple places with the houseliner now showing through it. In the time it took state farm to send their 1st adjuster out, I collected 6 different quotes on the roof + siding from reputable companies in the area (no fly by night.) Each roofing company said the same thing: The roof needed to be replaced due to a number of factors, the first being the size of the damage, the second being the remaining shingles are picking up in the wind and sort of folded, and aren't good long term. We also sent shingles off to a lab and were told they don't make them anymore. For the siding I also received the same diagnosis for 5/6 vendors: Hari-plank in order to keep the warranty and repair it in compliance with their requirements requires whole sections replaced due to the interconnected nature and the chances of boards being damaged trying to remove whole sections to repair a few boards. Additionally they needed to re-nail and reglue the hardi-plan on 3/4 sides of the house. The quotes to repair all this damage from the 6 companies varied from ~33,000 to 45,000. Our neighbor directly across the street had similar damage to his roof only and had his claim approved and a new roof in 3 weeks. State farm's adjuster did not agree with the companies I had out, and offered ~$9000 total (less my deductible about ~$7000.) They wanted us to do a patchwork repaid on the roof, and just do a few nails on the siding to keep it down, so we got an independent adjuster involved. My saga since then: State Farm basically shut down all communication with us or the adjuster, we had to file multiple complaints with the GA Dept of insurance for them going 30/60+ days without responding to questions or emails. We've had their team out 2x more times to look at the roof and both times they didn't offer much more. State farm did send a check (~$3000) to paint the house, which seems to odd since they won't approve most of the repair work. The State Farm adjusters most recently came out in March to meet with our independent adjuster, they didn't realized we had cameras on the house and spent the time asking my adjuster why he is "wasting his time on such a small roof," and telling him we should just "get in line" to sue them. When he mentioned he was doing this to make sure whats "right is right" / "he would be making minimum wage by the time this claim was done" and to ensure they fixed it to what I paid them to do they basically laughed in his face. We have the full 30 minute clip saved and its horrifying to say the least the way State Farm adjusters talk about their clients when they don't think they're listening. Since they came out in March we have now had another gap of over 1 month where they have not replied. We were told we'd have an answer in days. Our adjust who is highly recommended has been checking in every few days, but at this point after paying him $1700 I don't feel like I've gotten anywhere close to what I need for my claim. I live in an HOA and they are not happy the length of time we've gone with a tarp either. It seems horrific to me that they can just treat a client like this. My Questions: What is the next step? I understand in GA if I sue I can't recoup lawyers fee, is that correct? Is there another body other then GA Dept. of Insurance to involve? How do I best make this claim? I can't imagine State Farm is right vs 6 different companies and an independent adjuster, and we are talking 10's of thousands of dollars difference currently. [link] [comments] |
Liability or full coverage for a new driver? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 05:20 PM PDT I'm 19 living in California and planning on getting my license this month. My parents don't drive so I can't be added. I've been shopping around and all places seem to charge insane prices for new driver full coverage insurance (all around $500 monthly). Is it better to get liability for less around ($230) but not be covered if I crash? Am I able to add collision coverage to liability insurance but have the total cost still be less than full coverage? I'm planning to get a decent car for $7000 or $8000. [link] [comments] |
Wind blew my car door into a coworker's car Posted: 27 Apr 2021 02:53 PM PDT Edit: New York State Only damage to their vehicle. The repair is quoted at about $500. My agent said that because there is no damage to my vehicle it is all covered under my liability insurance. I'm kind of paranoid about it affecting rates, but would it be stupid to pay out of pocket? I know it's case by case... [link] [comments] |
When can I get my vehicle towed? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 04:50 PM PDT Long story short here in Houston, TX. Somebody backed into my wife's car. Process was pretty quick and it all appeared cosmetic. They were found to be at fault and I submitted the photos to Geico for the adjuster to review. However, a few hours later I noticed a leak and it appears to be coolant. While the adjuster has not made first contact yet, can I have it towed to a repair shop? Geico lady on the phone said I have to wait till I speak with the adjuster which I think is BS. Posted: 27 Apr 2021 08:17 PM PDT I set my backpack down next to the Chevy Tahoe the company I'm working for rented. I proceeded to back up and when I turned the wheel the passenger front tire ran over my backpack contains my MacBook Air. The screen is amazingly only slightly damaged. Either way, I'm dumb and didn't buy insurance on my laptop (AppleCare) so I'm kind of a dumbass. First for running over my own backpack and second for not getting the insurance on my computer that I wish I had right now. Is there a way I can make a claim through Enterprise? I am the responsible driver but not the renter in the contract as far as I know. Feel free to lay it on me, this might be a stupid question but I thought I'd ask! Thanks Edit: I am in Illinois, USA [link] [comments] |
BCBS has wrong SSN on the file, called them three times and its STILL wrong on 1095B Posted: 27 Apr 2021 07:29 PM PDT I noticed way earlier this year in January that they had completely wrong SSN on 1095B. I called TWICE to fix it, but voila, last week they sent me a mail that the SSN needs to be updated. What gives?? I called again Thursday again to fix it and explained that I had already called them twice to correct my SSN. The agent apologized (this one sounded more competent) and told me that it would take 3 business days to update it. Voila, its STILL NOT fixed from my side. Obviously whatever is happening, calling them to fix is not working. The chat and secured email system is completely useless as well. How do I escalate this issue?? EDIT: I am in NC [link] [comments] |
Ran over a sidewalk in the snow Posted: 27 Apr 2021 03:40 PM PDT We had a large snowstorm back in February and I couldn't stay home due to being an essential worker. While driving to work I ran over a sidewalk and banged the bottom of my car up. Basically I thought it was the driveway but was not and just drove over the sidewalk onto the street. My car has been making a weird noise ever since when I go over a bump or break suddenly. Would insurance cover any damages or repairs that would need to be made? *Edited to add that I am in the US in Texas [link] [comments] |

International travel insurance - fixed or percentage better? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 07:12 PM PDT I am deciding among 2 plans for a visitor health insurance. One plan pays fixed predetermined dollar amount as stated in the policy. The other pays a percentage of the total bill, regardless of the service (% decided on case to case basis). Which is a better plan to take? Also this insurance uses Multiplan. Is it popularly accepted in NorCal? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Help!!! Auto total loss vs repair Posted: 27 Apr 2021 07:07 PM PDT I was rear ended the other day and the other party admitted fault. We are going through their insurance provider for the claim (Progressive). I dropped off the car that Progressive recommended and followed up to see how things are going. They advised me that Progressive is looking at the numbers to see if its worth the repair or.if its better to total the car. Car is newer and i still have a balance on the loan. It also has a lot of sentimental value (first car) and i would like to keep it. My question is, it Progressive is thinking about totaling the car, can i just tell them i will pay the difference between what they are willing to pay vs the actual repair. So for example, if the cut off for them is $9000 and the actual repair is $10000, can i pay the $1000? If not, do i have any other options other than accepting the total and keeping the car? I'd rather not go through all that. Maybe cancel the claim and go through my insurance? I am in CT, if that matters. Thanks in advance for your time and help! [link] [comments] |

State Farm Short Term Disability (Approval and Coverage Related Questions) Posted: 27 Apr 2021 06:15 PM PDT Location: Seattle, WA USA I want to purchase my own private STD plan. I see that State Farm offers them. I want to know before I meet with an agent if you could advise me if you have experience with private STD plans. I have a recurring, pre existing mental health condition (severe depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder) which I have been drug resistant to as far as treatment. My employer doesn't allow pre existing conditions for STD and I would have to wait 12 months before I can apply based on me being treated for these conditions at least 6 months before my hire date. How likely am I to get approved for a private STD plan? Are mental health related illnesses an exclusion for this type of plan through State Farm? If so, are there any other agencies and companies that you would recommend? What are some things I should say and avoid saying to the agent? I know they document everything and saying the wrong thing can get you denied for a policy. I want to have this insurance in case I need to go out for months to a year at a time. I'm a consultant, so I switch employers often. It's best that I have my own private STD plan. Please assist me. [link] [comments] |
Want to get Dental insurance. Can I do it and is it worth it? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 05:39 PM PDT Hi I live in Minnesota and currently have state insurance for dental. I'm only 23, so I don't make a lot of money, hence being on state insurance. I have a dentist that I see right now who has done some of my fillings. However, I'm not so happy with how the fillings are turning out and my dentist is ignoring my concerns about the fillings and how overall uncomfortable I am (and he's a pretty highly reviewed dentist). So, I think I need to start looking into finding a new dentist. The biggest issue I'm finding is that a lot of dentist don't accept my insurance and I'd prefer to find one that's covered. In addition to possibly needing like 10 fillings done, I know I need a few crowns and at least one root canal. I'm aware that most insurances won't cover crowns and root canals, but if I can find one that's great. I'd like to get all my dental work done ASAP because of how much pain I'm in. Can I even apply for dental insurance right now since we aren't in an enrollment period? Also I know there's waiting periods on insurance. Dumb question, but what is a waiting period? Overall/in summary my main questions are: can I apply for dental insurance right now or am I SOL because we aren't in an open enrollment? If I can, what is the best insurance for me to get while not breaking the bank? What are waiting periods and are they important in my case? [link] [comments] |
Would an injury sustained from work from home carry any weight? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 11:27 AM PDT For example, working from home with a company laptop, poor posture related injuries. Issues relating to back pain, neck pain, etc. Would that have any bearing? I was asked about this from health insurance company regarding a visit a few months ago. I did not ever file workers comp or report to employer (I have since left). Should I claim this as a workplace related injury or mark as self sustained? I am in the state of Maryland. Posted: 27 Apr 2021 10:45 AM PDT I'm trying to understand how the discount for bundling these two insurances work. I'm trying to understand how this makes business sense to insurance companies? Auto insurance and primary operators Posted: 27 Apr 2021 04:32 PM PDT Hi all. Canadian here. Question on auto insurance and primary operators. 3 drivers in our household. Have three vehicles one of which is a summer driver and registered with Hagerty and I am primary. My truck and wifes suv with our main broker and I'm primary on the truck, wife primary on suv. My daughter occassional on both but no coverage on the hagerty covered vehicle -she isnt permitted to drive it. I want to park my truck and use it occassionally for runs to the cottage or picking up building supplies (truck is 12 years old with 290,000km and intermittent engine issues). Was gonna get a used car for work but insurance says my daughter will be made PO even though she wont be. So I was going to put the car with a different broker with just me on it but I am being told that then she will then be made PO on the truck. Anyone know if this is the case? I would have thought since its insured with a different company I could be primary on the truck and used car ... no different than me currently being primary on the truck and summer driver I have. Thanks in advance for any info. [link] [comments] |
Help! Wheelchair Van Rental Insurance Posted: 27 Apr 2021 04:32 PM PDT I don't own a car and don't have insurance. I am renting a wheelchair accessible minivan to take a friend with ALS to their doctor 70 miles away. The company that rents the van requires proof of insurance but doesn't offer the ability to purchase insurance through them. Any ideas on how I can get insurance to cover this van for a day? I'm in Richmond, Virginia. [link] [comments] |
