Budget Rental Car Claim Question Posted: 29 Apr 2021 08:31 PM PDT Looking for advice and guidance for a really frustrating issue. In January of 2021, I rented a car from Budget for a day. I returned it with no problems. Today, nearly 4 months after the fact, I received a letter saying that the car experienced damages and that I owe Budget almost $600. This is the first time I have been notified of this issue. Now I rejected the insurance when I picked up the car because my credit card carries rental insurance. I called my card company (a Bank of America Visa Card) and they will help me file a claim. They did say that their policy has a rule that if a claim is submitted 45 days after the return, it would typically be rejected, but that I should still file and submit necessary paperwork since this is the first time I had been notified. I will call Budget tomorrow as well to get a better explanation. My question is what else should I be doing? Frankly, this whole thing is ridiculous. How can Budget even be more sure I was responsible? [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to negotiate what is the market value of a car with a car insurance company? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:35 PM PDT This all takes place in Missouri in the US. This seems like a very silly question to me, because everyone I've spoken to irl says yes. But the insurance agency I'm currently dealing with says no. So I figured I'd ask here. Long story short, I was hit by someone. Their insurance is "taking care of things". But their insurance company and I disagree on the market value of my damaged vehicle. They came to their "market value" by averaging KBB's middle value with a CCC assessment and an NAP assessment (I may have botched those acronyms). They list a few "comparable vehicles" each of which has wildly higher miles, some different years, wildly different options and conditions, and has a list price many thousands below anything I can find anywhere for sale. Several of these cars are missing VINs so I can't verify that they are similar, and the few that do list BINs haven't been for sale for years. They say my car is worth 2900$. To be clear, they claim that a fair "list price" for the same make/model/year with similar miles/options/condition is 2900$. I came to my market value by searching multiple car sites for the same make and model and similar year/miles/options/conditions. I found a total of 23 results with a wide range of list price, miles, options, and conditions. I looked at all similar vehicles across the US to get a broad overview, then I considered just the very closest matches, and then I compared those to what close and somewhat close matches are within a 3 hour drive of my home. I came up with an average list price of 7000$ with some local ones as high as 9000$, all with the same make/model and VERY similar year/mileage/options/condition. Yes there were several with lower list prices like 3,500-4,500$. But all of those are dented and have 180,000+ miles. Far, far more miles than my vehicle had and far worse condition. Apples to oranges. The closest matches were around 7000$. With a few close matches lower and a few close matches higher. Now obviously I didn't expect the insurance company to just be like "Oh gee! Sure Mr! Whatever you say! Here's your check!" Whenever I shared my data. But basically they told me none of the cars I found would affect their assessment of my car's value. And that, and I quote, "The value of the vehicle is not negotiable." Are they just bsing me to try to pay the lowest amount possible? Are literally all of my friends and family wrong about negotiating settlements with insurance companies? Any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:23 PM PDT I filed and insurance claim (California) yesterday with Esurance after a woman hit me going straight in a double left turn lane ( I was in the 2nd left land and she in the first ). It was a BMW dealer lease/rental and she didn't have her insurance on her, so she handed that over the car's registration. My insurance contacted me today and told me to send over what I got from her. I have collision and uninsured motorist coverage. Why would my claim already be closed with no payment issued? This I my first accident and I had no idea what to do I was so scared! I hope I didn't make a mistake and am now getting screwed over. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Any interest in learning how to prevent space heater fires? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 03:57 AM PDT Hey guys, I found this article online and thought it was helpful: https://lewisclaimsolutions.com/common-causes-electric-space-heater-fires/ I've had a home fire in the past with a space heater. So it's important to know what to do! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:48 PM PDT So I recently was in an accident I was not at fault for. My insurance company (geico) wanted to handle it. They're declaring it constructive total loss. I have an estimate from them that lists the vehicle damages at $10,640 while another estimate from 3rd party saying vehicle was worth $17,143 with a salvage value of $6600 dollars. Can someone help me understand why they can't fix my vehicle I just don't get it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 11:56 PM PDT I made a claim on my old pet insurance policy in the last week. I declared to the new policy I've taken out that I've had no previous claims (as I didn't at the time of registration). Do I need to inform the new provider of the claim? Based in UK [link] [comments] |
Forgot to switch to landlord insurance... Posted: 29 Apr 2021 11:48 PM PDT I made a dumb mistake and forgot to switch from regular homeowners insurance to landlord insurance when my tenant moved in a month ago. (Incredibly stupid, I know). Now I have to switch insurance companies because my current insurer doesnt offer landlord insurance anymore. The new company has to inspect the property. How am i to navigate this situation? It seems to me that there is no way that the Insurance company will issue me a policy if they know the place is currently rented without landlord insurance... any advice is appreciated. Co-worker hit my car and did not acknowledge it Posted: 29 Apr 2021 11:04 PM PDT So I was at work today (I have to go to different schools) and I was early and was sitting in my car when a co-worker hit my car. I parked backwards, perfectly between the two lines, so I saw it happen as this person tried to park forward (on the last spot in the lot so there was no car on her other side), but pulled up too close to me. Then she turned her wheel and started moving back (and luckily her back did not collide with the front of my car but our mirrors collided where mine flung towards the windshield, while hers stayed in place. I don't know if that is an okay motion for the mirrors because I've seen them pulled into the door windows on busy streets but never the opposite way. She did not acknowledge, ask if its okay, or even apologize for what happened (we worked in the gym for 7 hours and had more than enough free time today). She drives a old soccer mom van and I had my dad's last week bought brand-new SUV and I freaked the fuck out. The mirror went back into place, the mirrors still move with the commands on the inside of the car, but impacted mirror doesn't tilt down when reversing like it used to. My work consists of different groups going to schools so there is a slim chance I'll meet her again and I did not think to write her plate number, but there is still a chance I'll meet her at least once more. Truthfully, I had a panic attack because this was the first vehicle my dad has bought since 2002 and he told me to use the new car because he wants me to have the safer car while I work this temporary job and then I have to go back to school. I cried so much because I was trusted with this car and this is the first time something like this happened. What should I do? My dad had a hard day at work (only worker besides me in a family of 7) and I didn't have the heart to tell him. Me and my dad both have insurance.. how will this impact my rate (its notoriously high where I live - we have no tickets, etc and pay 700 monthly together) if I try to get it fixed through them, I think that we also have some contract with the dealer but that maybe more manufactural defects stuff. fyi, I don't care about my relationship with the woman who hit me like other similar posts suggest because this job is super temporary. The craziest part to me was that she was still too close when she decided to leave her vehicle and head inside (to the point where she had to hold her door so it doesn't touch mine while she got herself out (on the bigger size.. I think she barely knows English and in her early 40s). FUCK I HATE THIS [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 11:02 PM PDT I'm taking it to a claim adjuster tomorrow morning. I'd like to get a quote for the vehicle before the repair appears on carfax and then do it again for after and essentially show the difference. Is this enough or do I need multiple quotes? [link] [comments] |
Gf and i got into a fender bender Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:03 PM PDT Wierdest thing happened today we both went out to go do errands and ended up in a target parking lot and she parked on the opposite side of me and we both backed up into eachother with our seperate cars. My car is old and dont care if i get any bumps or stuff but she just got her new car a week ago and her car ended up getting more damaged then mine. I just had to wipe off the paint of her car she got paint scratched and a minor bump the size of a fist. So we are just curious what to do since this is such a coincidence that it happened to be each other that bumped into one another. I am under my families car insurance. And she is under her own full coverage insurance. Any help would be awesome. We just want her car to be UNbumped and that little spot repainted. [link] [comments] |

Motorcycle and family member from abroad Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:51 PM PDT I'm planning a motorcycle trip with my dad who's visiting in June from abroad (I live in OR). I intend to buy a second bike and insure it under my name - he'd be riding this bike. We'll go through multiple states (not sure if this matters also). What kind of policy/insurer would cover my dad? Also, would I have to add him as a driver on the policy? Can I remove him after the trip? He's planning to get traveler's insurance in his country. I would want to make sure that medical costs would be covered in any event. Any advice, or if you had a similar experience would be much appreciated! Thank you [link] [comments] |
Advice for internship offer (Hong Kong based) Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:19 PM PDT Hi guys I am a student from Hong Kong and would like to seek advice on internship offer choices. I currently received a reinsurance underwriting (life & health lines) and an insurance risk management intern offer. Quite struggling cuz I like the exposure from reinsurance but the risk management role seems more interesting. Hope there are some professionals here could provide some colours on the offers. I am also considering to move to UK and find an underwriting/risk management job so it seems reinsurance underwriting will be better for now. Could you guys kindly share your thoughts? This is my first time to post in Reddit so sorry if I missed anything. Thanksss! [link] [comments] |
Unique fender bender situation. Advice greatly sought Posted: 29 Apr 2021 11:02 AM PDT Thanks in advance for the help. A few weeks ago in MA, I was in a small fender bender at a 4 way intersection. I proceeded from a stop sign to lurch into cross traffic (which didn't have a stop sign) when a rather fast driver was blowing thru the intersection in a slow speed area (weird campus parking lot road). At this point I put it into reverse to give the cross traffic space and avoid a head on. When I did this, I reversed a smidge too far and hit the guy behind me at the stop sign (just a 2" crease on his 2002 Accord's bumper). He was a student on the way to class, and had to leave ASAP. No police report was filed and FWIW I've not admitted fault on record with anyone. I gave him my phone number and didn't hear back from him for a few weeks. I kind of hoped he moved on because there was only a minor cosmetic defect on his 20 year old Honda. But, he called me today with quotes ranging $600-1,000. I'm in the position where I want to do the right thing and get the kid money, but at the same time this is VERY steep. Should I go to insurance with this? I was kind of hoping he'd not want to repair it and I could toss him a couple hundred for the inconvenience. Need advice. I drive 75k mi/year for work and this is only my 2nd ever accident (I'm 30) so I count myself very lucky to be this oblivious right now. [link] [comments] |
Car Insurance for for Car Owner if I Rarely Drive Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:48 PM PDT Hi /r/insurance, So I'm basically remote working 99% of the time and might have to to into the office once every 3 or 4 months. I am pretty this will remain the case permanently. I only take my car to get groceries or get food, so my mileage is less than 40 miles a month if that. Most of the time I use my partner's car to drive to get groceries and my car just stays at home. What insurance plan do you recommend I switch to? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Advice on potentially reaching car insurance limitations and if hiring an attorney is a good option Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:21 PM PDT This post is for my mother who was involved in a three car accident in Vegas. We just got a phone call from our agent that is concerned for us in reaching the limitation of $50,000 of coverage. Story: My mother(56), her friend(78) and her friend's daughter(34) were involved in a bad accident here in Vegas. She thought she made a left turn on a passive green where a lady and her teenage son hit her on the passenger front side. My mother's car was pushed about 3-5 meters and into the 3rd car. Everyone was fine and showed mostly no injury's except the lady and her son that hit her from the parallel lane. Today we found out that they are okay, her son did fracture his wrist however. Damage: My mother's and the lady's vehicle were notably totaled. The lady and her son when to the hospital via ambulance. The 3rd vehicle had only a dent from being hit on the rear driver's side. The guy showed no injury's and was fine to talk. Notes: Her agent called me as I just graduated from school and am job searching. She doesn't have much grasp on the situation. Concerns: We were just notified that the 3rd vehicle that barely got hit hired an attorney. I have no idea why as he had zero signs of injury or damage from his vehicle. His vehicle was a 2017ish VW jetta which did not move an inch after being hit. My mother's car was an BMW SUV. Why would he hire an attorney? Should we hire an attorney? We just barely gotten out of debt and things have been tough. However, if hiring a good attorney will help us, we will hire one. Conclusion: If anyone has any insight or experience with this please comment or message me. I just want my mother to be taken care of as she is the only one supporting my grandmother and great aunt. She is a great women, and I just want to try to help. Thank you. Location: Las Vegas, Nevada. USA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 03:26 PM PDT Hello everyone, thanks so much in advance for taking the time to read this and respond to this. My issue/question is pretty much the title. I move on May 15th, though my apartment lease doesn't start until May 18th. I am about confused about what to do and can hardly get an answer (getting through to either states' DMV is difficult). My current policy expires tomorrow night but it automatically renews. I know I can cancel it later on and get a refund. However, would it be best to sign up for new insurance now? I have a policy with NJ Manufacturers currently. They do not cover in VA, so I will be getting a policy with Geico. I'm also confused as to how to do the rest; register car in new state > get new state license > get new state license plates. Not sure if anyone here could provide insight on that as well. Thank you again in advance! [link] [comments] |
Lying About Having Health Insurance? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:02 PM PDT Sorry if this has been posted before. I saw a few but they were a few years old and never had a definitive answer. I'm having just a small ear issue and was going to go to the closest urgent care tomorrow to have them look at it. I've been there before for a simple thing and even though they're in-network the cost was around $150. The specific urgent care group has a program during COVID that they'll cover the visit, exam, and certain simple procedures (that I need done) for $65 flat fee. I go to college and am still on my parent's insurance and I don't have a lot of money so $65 vs $150 really makes a difference. I'm sure it's on their file that I have insurance from last year but would it be bad if I just say I'm no longer on their insurance and ask about paying the $65 upfront instead? I graduate in one week so I'll never be back there again. I feel bad about it but it's crazy that I'm paying double for having insurance when I could just pay out of pocket for way cheaper. However, if it's something that I'll potentially get in trouble I don't want to risk that either. Any help is appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments] |
Workmans Comp for senior caregiver (TX) Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:29 PM PDT My brother has early onset Alzheimers and is in memory care. We have hired a companion for him. She doesn't work through an agency. We would like to get a workman's comp policy for her but it isn't required in Texas and have been unable to find anyone who will issue a policy. Is this such an odd thing to do? Do people in Texas not cover home caregivers and nannies? Is there another sort of coverage we could consider? I'd hate for my SIL to lose all of her assets if there were an expensive injury. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:10 PM PDT My whole life policy is now in its tenth year. Yearly dividends are coming in at about 15% of annual premiums. We're in NY state. Every year the broker recommends using the premium to add cash value and increase death benefits "for cheap." He's not entirely wrong, but I do wonder if there's accepted wisdom on when to start using dividends to reduce premiums, rather than expand value. Fwiw, the premiums are not causing hardship on our budget. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Virginia state-specific laws on vehicle ACV? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:44 PM PDT I'm from Maryland on Progressive, and I recently was rear-ended in Virginia by a Virginia driver who has USAA. In the past I've found plenty of good resources for Maryland insurance laws, but Virginia doesn't seem to have any resources clearer than the text of the laws themselves. (Trashy shit-ass state... yeah I'm mad) I hope they won't, but I expect the other driver's insurance to total my car and I expect them to really screw me on the ACV. (It's an old Miata and I've been watching the market for these cars go insane over the past year, and I bet anything their valuation won't reflect that) Can anybody help me out with understanding exactly how ACV is defined in Virginia, what my options are for valuation, etc? And maybe some nitty-gritty on exactly how USAA's policies define ACV, etc? Thanks for any help. [link] [comments] |
Insurance doesn't appear to cover my new business (small scale demolition) in NC Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:39 PM PDT I recently started a small business and insurance doesn't seem to cover us. We have been doing side gigs removing porches, drywall, hot tubs, etc. I've called a plethora of different insurance companies and a couple insurance match-making services who have 1000+ providers in their database. Does anyone know what the deal is? Do you have to get insured for junk removal and just risk getting sued while doing demolition? I've been searching for other demolition companies in Raleigh NC but it seems like only junk removal services, with demolition offered, are coming up. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 04:23 PM PDT I realize this is a bit of a loaded question, but I was hoping to get some insight on my situation. Over 6 weeks ago I submitted the patient authorization for release of health information, and out of 11 healthcare providers the adjuster has only received records + bills from 1 provider and then records but no bills from 2 others, leaving 9 providers with nothing to date. In 3.5 weeks, I'll be hitting the 2-year statute of limitations and only waited this long because I didn't want to settle until I had reached maximum medical improvement. I really wanted to settle outside of court without a lawyer to keep things simple and in doing so I assumed I'd be able to get compensated for my healthcare expenses thus far without much of a hassle, which has been my main concern, but now I'm concerned that might not happen in time. Is it normal to go this long with so little progress? I know doctor's offices can be difficult to deal with, but some of the offices she's heard nothing back from are places I wouldn't have expected to take this long just from how prompt they usually are with other stuff. I feel like at this point I need to get a lawyer involved but would also hate to do so if it's not necessary. [link] [comments] |
