Cannot find insurance that is fairly priced after claim.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:03 PM PST

Ok so last year I purchased an rv park and along with it an insurance policy. Well what do you know two month into the purchase and our area gets hit with a monster hailstorm. Our claim was huge as it was a catastrophic loss. We did completely update the whole park with repairs and re did the electric and water along with the roof. I knew our insurance would go up due to the claim. Well actually they ended up giving us a non renewal, so now i have to find new insurance. The only problem is every one is quoting me at 3x the amount and the hail and wind deductible is no sh*t at 25,000 dollars. I dont know what to do, I cant control the weather, I have excellent credit and this is my only claim ever.

    Location is new mexico

My claims adjuster will not respond to me?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:55 PM PST

US/PA: I filed a claim about 2 months ago after I was hit by another vehicle while parked. The other insurance company, the last I heard, has been completely unable to reach their insured. I spoke with my adjuster twice since filing, the last being 3 weeks ago when she told me the claim is in subrogation.

The other insurance company has reached out to me since then, and the adjuster even sent me a letter saying that they are waiting for the repair to be completed in order to be able to settle. I have a higher deductible, so I want to make sure that the other insurance company is at least cooperating before I perform the repair.

I called the adjuster a week ago to get an update. I left my name, claim number, and phone number. I called again 2 days later, the same thing and I left a voicemail. Fast forward to today and I call again this morning, end of the day rolls around, and nothing. I'm considering escalating to her supervisor, but I also understand that insurance adjusters are busy. That said, I still paid for insurance and have not received any update from my insurance company other than the claim is in subrogation, 3 weeks ago.

    What should I do?

Are we SOL after a house fire? Progressive Insurance.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:08 AM PST

We had a house fire a few weeks ago during the snow/ice storm. Structure is okay but there's a fair bit of smoke damage throughout the home and we are displaced. Insurance is Progressive. They put us up in an unfurnished rental home. Landlord said don't bring any smoke smelling things into this house. Paul Davis Restoration can't touch our home for weeks. They're too backed up. There is no stipend built into our policy but they said once we spend X amount on food past what we'd normally spend, they'll cover it, but said nothing else about living expenses. We've had to purchase everything to essentially start over... we're talking pillows, curtains, comforters, litter box/pet food bowls, laundry detergent, pots and pans, school supplies etc.. Mostly the cheapest option of these items but for a full family, it has added up. Progressive says umm if you intend to keep these items, we can't reimburse you. If you rented these items, we could help you. Are we SOL? How are we supposed to live if Paul Davis can't clean our home, we don't know how (probably shouldn't?) clean our items, and are expected to survive in an unfurnished house without purchasing things to live on? Please can someone provide prospective and a way to phrase things so that we might get something back? I've kept all receipts. Thanks guys. (OK, US)

    Allstate: Being denied ALE

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:34 PM PST

Looking for some advice on recourse here if anyone has any tips! We use Allstate (for now) and do have ALE coverage.

On 2/16 the storm in Texas burst one of our pipes causing water to pour through light fixtures in our hallway, damaging the sheetrock, and completely collapsed the sheetrock into one of our guest rooms. The water then poured into all four bedrooms of our house, and closets, into the baseboards etc. The drywall in several rooms is bubbling from the water. Claim was filed immediately while water was still dripping.

Until this date, no water mitigation company has come (The one Allstate recommended has been hopeless) and every company has been so backed up. We finally have a company coming tomorrow. We did our best to mitigate ourselves, pulling up carpet, running fans 24/7, etc. There has been insulation flying around in the air and it smells of mildew. My wife has a very sensitive sense of smell and gets headaches being in the house.

Our initial claims contact at Allstate approved us up to 30 days in a hotel and then up to 6 months of temporary living, and there is an email from him to the temporary housing service stating so. We are currently in a hotel. We were told we could also just go find a place ourselves and then send a lease in to Allstate to give the final approval. Our claims adjustor then was changed to someone on the catastrophe team. We went through the paperwork to put in a lease application, which we sent to Allstate, but have not signed a lease agreement yet. We were supposed to be moving in this weekend.

Yesterday Allstate came back and said they determine our house to be "uncomfortable but livable" and suggest we live in our living room or our office on the other side of the house (we both work from home).

Our contractor is trying to help us with our case that they don't think we should be living here right now and especially while the damage is being repaired.

I'm really hoping the mitigation company tomorrow will start cutting out the drywall and finding that it is still wet behind there and help us make our case.

Do we have a case? Is there anything else we should be doing? We have spent the last two days packing everything up to have them tell us that they don't think we should be entitled to any ALE coverage. We have been told that the first agent "made a mistake" and gave us misinformation.

    Appreciate any insight!

Insurance car repair - unavailable parts?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:35 PM PST

I had a car broken into here in California, with damage to both the interior and exterior. The shop my insurance company sent the car to has done a good job on what they've repaired, but has been unable to source a number of parts. At the moment I'm not at all happy with the state of the vehicle they wish to return to me. The car itself is an older model (2004), and a limited edition, so I'm sympathetic, but where does that leave me in terms of options?

Question regarding primary/secondary insurance that I’m stumped on...

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:10 PM PST

I just started a new job with a new health insurance plan, which is now my primary insurance. It's a PPO and therefore covers out of network doctors as well, just at a higher cost to me.

However, I also have coverage through my domestic partner's (boyfriend's) job. It's also a PPO. I'm remaining on both plans.

I see a doctor once monthly- this doctor is out of network for my new (primary) plan, but in network for my other (secondary) plan.

So, my question: Does this mean my doctor's office will bill my primary insurance first (which basically won't cover anything, because for out of network doctors I need to hit my deductible first, followed by co-insurance), and then bill my secondary insurance to cover the rest? i.e: would my primary insurance just cover nothing, followed by my secondary insurance just having me pay my usual $60 copay?

(If I only had my primary insurance, I'd have to meet my $2,250 deductible first and thus pay the doctor's full consult fee 9 times before co-insurance kicks in.)

Can someone help me understand how this will work now that I have a primary and secondary plan?

    Thank you!

Insurance disagrees with dentist on severity of filling

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:18 PM PST

My dentist told me a cavity had degraded to the point of needing a crown and a filling would not work. My insurance covers crowns that aren't fixable with a filling. I got the crown, paid the portion I owed and all was fine. Today I got that my claim was rejected.

This took place in Tucson, AZ I have United Concordia dental insurance. When I went to the dentist I was told that I had a cavity that was beyond saving with a filling and had to get a crown. They gave me the bill with the amount I owed and I paid that and got the crown. I've now received a letter from my dental insurance stating that the claim was rejected because a dental advisor reviewed and they don't think my cavity was bad enough to need a crown.

Who is right? And if my dentist is wrong do I have to pay since I had the procedure under the impression it was the only option?

59y/o woman Merriam/KC, KS.Diagnosed w/ dementia Dec '20. $200k FV life insur. policy enacted Feb '14. Never missed/late pmts, until Sep '20 due to illness.Policy terminated Nov '20.Can't handle own affairs, contacted co. Jan '21(4 mo. later/$200worth of mo. pmts behind).Denied.Can we get it back?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:59 PM PST

(not so) TLDR; 59 year old single woman living alone, single mother of 4. $200k life insurance policy. Enacted Feb 2014. Never missed/late payments. Onset of symptoms probably years ago, diagnosis of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) December 2020. Began missing payments September 2020. 31 day grace period began. They sent correspondence, she began not reading mail in Sep if not sooner. November: policy terminated. January we contact life insurance company to make up the payments and reinstate policy (SHE HAS DEMENTIA AND WE CAN PAY $200 NOW HAVE SOME HUMANITY). They deny the request. She has no other money or assets for care, end of life plans, left for her family. Any legal leg to stand on to reinstate the policy?

LONGER VERSION (I'm bad at brevity) FOR ANYONE WHO CARES IF YOU'RE OUT THERE My mom (59) lived alone up until November 2020 in the greater Kansas City area (in Johnson County), has a life insurance "Preferred Best No Nicotine" policy enacted in February 2014 with monthly payments of $33.08. $200,000 face value, 20 year term. Never missed or been late on a payment until September 2020.

December 15, 2020 she was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia, Primary Progressive nonaffluent Aphasia, a "moderate case" at the time as per neurologist. It has rapidly progressed terribly since then (she is getting a DAT scan on Thursday, which presumes that the doctors may think it is actually Lewy Body Dementia, or at least wants to confirm if it is or isn't. It's not thought she has Parkinson's). Her ability to communicate has been severely diminished since October/November, at least (now she is 100% mute except for faintly saying "yea"). She missed payments beginning in September 2020 and began not answering phone calls, emails, and reading her mail around this time too, if not sooner. She began missing regular payments on various other things as well, of course, due to her illness. Before this illness taking over she always paid bills on time and was definitively reliable at it and didn't ever get behind.

Life Insur. company sent all the necessary communication via snail mail (potentially other modes too but we've observed that much at least). They sent a Final Notice letter Oct 20 saying the policy is in a 31 day grace period where if she doesn't make the payment the policy is terminated as of 9/17. 11/18/2020 Life Insur. company sent a policy terminated letter. Which of course, was never opened, just like all her mail. Not until January when we got to to it.

Immediately after her December diagnosis my siblings and I started really paying attention to her bills and affairs. I moved from California to Kansas City in January to be close to home/her. After getting through months of mail and attending to other things for her, we realized we needed her to get caught up on her life insurance policy if allowable. We didn't contact Life Insur. company until January 5th 2021 hoping to make up her payments (about $200 worth) and reinstate her life insurance policy. We filed a reinstatement application. They denied the reinstatement based on the fact she missed payments and didn't pay them within the grace period. We filed a complaint with Kansas Dept. of Insurance. They investigated and agreed with their decision based on the fact that it's within their right to deny reinstatement as per the policy details, and deny the $200,000 policy even if we are happy to make up the payments of a measly $200 for it to get it in line - even if my mom has a cruel rare debilitating disease that literally impairs her communication, comprehension and expression of language and ability to handle her own affairs - especially pay bills and understand her mail notifications of delinquent payments. She had no spouse to help her with her affairs. She can't communicate.

Is there any legal standing to fight this to get her policy reinstated? Perhaps some sort of exception to be made for persons with disabilities, who can easily rectify the situation (IT'S ONLY $200) once a guardian steps in? But, of course that's not good for their bottom line :(

    Small car accident and PTSD

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:56 PM PST

    Hello all,

I was in a small car accident about two weeks ago. I was not at fault. An elderly couple hit me going probably 40mph. The damage is decent.

I have had some pretty severe PTSD from the event. I have nightmares about getting in car accidents. I have really bad anxiety whenever I drive. Even someone else driving my anxiety is through the roof. I check the weather app constantly because I'm afraid the conditions will cause an accident. I constantly think back to the accident whenever I'm driving. The sound especially.

I've gone to a psychiatrist and he said I definitely have PTSD from the event. He suggests I start therapy. Which I plan on doing.

I also went and saw a GP because I was sore from the wreck.

My question is should I look for reimbursement for these things? I have had to miss work because my vehicle has had to be in the shop. I have missed work for the GP doctors visit. I had to miss work for the psychiatrist visit. Plus I had to pay for all those things. I will have to miss work for all future therapy visits as well.

Is this something I discuss with my insurance? Or the at faults insurance? We are both State Farm. Is this even something I bring up?

I'm not looking for some quick cash grab. I'm a social worker and work quite a bit of hours a week. It's just been a HUGE pain in the ass. Especially since my job is 70% driving.

    I'm in Utah.

    Condo insurance/dwelling question

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:06 PM PST

Hi guys! So I live in/own a condo and my old copper pipes have started leaking and plumbers have had to come in and of course put numerous holes in my walls/ceilings to replace the lines. I may also need a whole wall replaced as it could have mold damage. This has me looking into my condo insurance policy and I see under dwelling it says "none". Does that basically mean that if I want to get this wall replaced or holes repaired that I have to pay for those repairs on my own and can't file a claim with my insurance? TIA.

    Condo co-insurance requirements / non-warrantable

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:50 PM PST

Hi all, in MA trying to refinance our condo. Our underwriters are asking for either

    (A) proof of no co-insurance (which our policy does have) or

if we DO have co-insurance (which we do)
    (B) evidence of an agreed amount endorsement, a replacement cost estimator from the insurance company, AND a copy of the appraisal used to determine insurable replacement cost. Our policy doesn't have agreed amount endorsement. The lender is at a standstill and no one seems to know what is going on, seems to think we have a non-warrantable condo as a result of this, which can't be the case since they financed our property last year, as well as all the other units have been financed by their respective lenders under the same policy.

There seems to be some miscommunication here from the underwriter - does this seem right? Can a property insurance expert advise? Thank you!

    Policy cancelled for non-payment

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:14 PM PST

First of all I just want to let everyone know that I was really dumb and not responsible in this situation and I openly admit that. I have a car that I have not really driven in the past year because the company I work for went to work from home. I was late on some of my insurance payments and sometimes so late that my policy got cancelled. I was able to re-instate it by just paying the fees and reporting that no accidents happened during the lapse. I was able to do this through an automated system and never had to talk to anyone to get the policy reinstated.

About 4 months ago my car stopped working. I have been deciding over those last couple months if I even want to keep the car or get a new one. I just stopped paying my insurance payments all together and just thought I'd let the policy cancel and if I decide to keep the car I will just call the insurance company and renew the cancelled policy over the phone again.

Well I tried that and I think it has been cancelled for so long that there is no longer an option to renew. I will calm their customer service tomorrow, but in the mean time I'm freaking out. I didn't realize that having someone cancel your policy could screw up your chances of getting a new policy in the future. I just had the car repaired and I actually need it this coming weekend.

Did I screw myself over pretty badly? Will it be hard for me to get a new policy? I have a 100% clean driving record and no accidents ever. I was stupid with my payments for this policy after I stopped driving. I also use my boyfriends car most of the time. Thanks everyone 🙏🏻

[CA] How long do you have to settle a claim before it "expires"?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:59 PM PST

I previously had two insurances, one through each parent, until my mom did not renew hers (Cigna) for this year. Two things about that are inconvenient. Number one, it takes a long time to update. Number two, my mom's birthday comes first in the year so Cigna was my primary.

I thought this would settle on its own within a week or two, and I saw a specialist. I told them to only bill my secondary insurance, since it was now my only insurance.

The provider billed Cigna anyway, and Cigna covered it. Of course Cigna will do an audit later on and reverse their payment. At that point, the bill will either fall into my current insurance OR I will have to cover it myself.

It's already March and this is still dragging on. I told the provider to reverse their claim with Cigna, and bill my current insurance. They did, but it got denied since my current insurance wants an EOB from Cigna. So now my provider has billed me like $600. The good news is that the provider I saw is in-network with my current insurance, and I should only have a $20 copay in the end. I called my current insurance who said they were doing a "CUA" (not sure if that's what it was called, but something like that, basically an update saying I no longer had any other insurance; it should take 30-45 days to process).

This is all a really annoying drag, but the only thing I'm afraid of is the scenario that in which takes too long to process, and by the time a would-be completable bill is sent to my current insurance, it's too late. So I have two questions. Number one, could that even legally happen? Number two, if it can happen, how long do we all have to get this settled by?

    Street Racer accident

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:06 PM PST

    Located in southern CA

    -background:

I was in an accident 2 months ago after a street racer lost control and slammed into me. My girlfriend was driving and we both ended up being taken by an ambulance and spent the night in the hospital.

    -Injuries:

I ended up with a L3 compression fracture in my lower spine, a tiny fracture in my arm - barely notice the arm injury. And tissue damage on my foot and hip - these were much more painful.

    -Effects of injuries:

The injuries have made it hard to walk for the first 1.5 months, but my foot is starting to feel better.

As for my back, I'm still finding it uncomfortable to sit through my entire work shift and as a result, I've been working reduced hours (~26-30 a week). So far I used up about 100 hours of paid leave. (About $3k in wages).

I also don't drive and mostly walked or biked but haven't been able to since the accident.

    -police follow up:

Police report is still not completed, but the officer said he was submitting a report to the DA's office to pursue charges against the other driver for racing.

    -Other Driver's insurance:

The other driver's insurance is Geico and they accepted liability. I'm not sure what his limits are but they paid $8k for my girlfriend's property damage, so at least it isn't the absolute minimum.

    -Girlfriend's insurance:

    $25k Uninsured/underinsured

    -Bills:

    Original bills: $43k ER $3k Ambulance $3k orthopedist $1k urgent care = ~ 50k

My health insurance ended up paying ~$35k. While I paid $350 out of pocket.

Questions: 1. Based on an internet search, I think the other driver is an active member of the Army - will this be a problem in pursuing a claim?

    1. Assuming the other driver (A) was racing another person (B), if B is found and also charged with racing, can I pursue an insurance claim against them, even if B wasn't in the accident. - I'm worried that A maybe under insured.

    2. I would like to file my insurance claim after I'm fully recovered. But in the event the DA charges the driver before I recover, should I request restitutions?

    3. what kind of pain and suffering offer can I expect?

    Thanks for the help

    Progressive - Job discrimination?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:42 PM PST

I work in IT and when I select "IT Support Engineer" my 6 month premium is $1200. When I select "IT Support Technician" and change nothing else, my 6 month premium increases by by $150.

This is actually discrimination. I'm going to be lawyering up because this isn't right.

Blacklisted from insurance company by association?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:52 PM PST

If someone is on a joint auto insurance policy (unmarried), two separate vehicles and drivers, and one of the drivers gets a dui in their own vehicle, no longer owns that vehicle, and removes themselves from the policy, is it normal for the other person (who has a clean record, as well as no incidents involving their own vehicle and again is not married to the offender) to be denied their own policy due to risk factor? This person with the spotless record has been told they cannot open their own individual, unattached policy with the company because the other person, in another vehicle, on their old policy got a dui. The dui offender would not ve associated with the policy or the vehicle in any way but this doesn't seem to matter. How do you get around this? Is this normal?

Edit: the company in question is Geico. The state is Washington.

For Adjusters! Looking for Career Switch

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:47 PM PST

    Best Type of Adjusting

Hey all, I have been in the auto claims industry for the past couple of years and I am looking to make a career move into adjusting a different line of coverage. I currently work for a small-mid sized non-standard auto insurer so I would have to also move companies. I have handled first and third party auto property claims, handled Injury claims all the way from unrepresented to litigated files, and have about 6 months of leadership experience.

I am wondering what some of your favorite types of claims to handle have been. Looking for at least a decent work-life balance, but understand that there are busy seasons for a reason.

Any suggestions on a career shift? I am getting very tired of dealing with auto property claims and the ambulance chasers of the world.

    Thanks!

(They haven't found a speeding ticket i got a couple months ago and i'm worried if i have to inform them of a new license they'll do a run on my profile then find it and hike my insurance)

    Car insurance questions

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:48 PM PST

    1. When it is said that an accident stays on your insurance for 3 years, is that counting only years you have a car and insurance? So say I sell my car 1 year in and wait 2 years will the accident no longer affect it or do I have 2 years from the time I get my next car?

    2. How does damage that didn't occur as a result of an accident factor into insurance premiums? Say grazing a wall or tree or something like that?

Should I seek restitution for a car accident or go entirely through insurance claim?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:46 PM PST

A driver that hit me was charged with DUI and attempting to leave the scene. I was asked by the prosecutor's office if I would like to seek restitution.

I have hired a personal injury attorney, and even though he is in charge of the civil matter of getting payment for my medical bills and not a criminal attorney, he suggested that I don't seek restitution because it may affect the claims with the insurance and how much money I might get.

Is not asking restitution and going only through the offender's insurance the right choice? I realized that since I am not seeking restitution, my PI attorney should be able to make more money since he is receiving a portion of the claim from the insurance.
