    My manager is a Bitch.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 10:19 AM PST

    There I said it.

    Fucking hell.

Everything I do is wrong. She literally took my list of things I needed from the client, REWROTE IT, AND SAID I DID IT WRONG.

If there is any solace, the other managers also clearly don't like her either.

    Fuck busy season.

    Work paralysis

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 09:15 AM PST

Just sitting here staring at all the work I have to do.

How do you motivate yourself to finish tasks when your senior/manager aren't making time to answer questions? I'm not sure how to close these open items if I'm given no direction.

I feel like they expect me to know everything, and all questions I ask are stupid. I'm just trying to complete my tasks.

Beyond stressed out and lost as a staff 1

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 06:37 PM PST

I have been at my b4 firm for around 6 months and these last couple weeks have been absolutely horrible. I have no fucking clue how I'm supposed to do the work papers assigned to me, nothing ever ties out or even makes sense. Some of the higher ups on the job left and I have trouble getting help virtually with the senior on what I'm working on. Said areas of the audit were supposed to be done last week and aren't even remotely close to being finished. I'm so stressed out and have felt sick to my stomach for the past week. I dont think I'm that big of an idiot, I have passed the cpa and did okay in school. I'm debating just quiting at this point as I dont know how much more of this I can take.

My carefully curated Spotify playlist of instrumental background music is so integral to my productivity that I'm claiming it as a company asset and depreciating it over the estimated useful life.

    I'm not even in accounting

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 05:48 PM PST

I found this sub because someone mentioned something about depreciating land, then I realized this place is less about accounting and more about venting how much you hate your life and job. Incredible content, I decided to stay.

Seriously, to all the people who feel overwhelmed, I sympathize. I'm in IT, and I've had the typical high-turnover, high call volume, "self-starter" type call center roles where everything is expected of you at the speed of light and no help from leadership. Even sometimes it felt like leadership was out to sabotage us, then would complain about our performance after aforementioned sabotage and send 100 emails about new procedures. There were days I teared up before work, days I made excuses to leave early, days I simply pretended my internet wasn't working so I wouldn't have to log in.

All I can really say is hang in there and keep your heads up. I know not everyone in this sub is on the verge of jumping off a bridge, but to the people who are, don't stay in a career that makes you want to stab children on Thursday nights. Keep searching for something that won't make you miserable at the very minimum. Or use your current off-time for mental health. You might never find a job you love, but you might one day find something that makes you less unhappy and allows you to find happiness elsewhere. Yes, it's going to take time. After 2 years searching, I've found this in my current job (still in IT) and use my many vacation days to travel and spend time with friends which makes me happy.

I wish you all the best of luck.

I hate every day of my job

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 06:19 AM PST

Does anyone else feel this way? Ever since WFH started, I HATE my job and constantly dread the next day. Constantly unsure of what to do which is fucking demoralizing as hell, I don't care about any of the work, and the fucking pay for the hours, holy shit. Like, is it too much to ask for a career that doesn't make me want to blow my fucking brains out every day? Sorry I had to post and let this out somewhere

    Leaving public accounting for startups?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 08:57 PM PST

To all the accountants who have left public accounting for startup companies, I am curious to hear your experience working at startup companies. I've heard the hours can be crazy and it's a lot of work and hard work, but I am curious about your thoughts on the long term career growth/opportunities. Do you think it is worth it? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

How to eat more during busy season?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 08:16 AM PST

I always hear about people putting on a ton of weight during busy season due to constant snacking, easy access to their fridge, etc. I am the type of person who has no appetite when under stress. I've noticed I've been losing weight since busy season started. I've lost 11 pounds already. I can tell I am not eating enough because I am constantly tired, weak, and nauseous. I am really stressed out and not sure if anyone has any tips on how to eat better/more during busy season when I feel sick to my stomach constantly from the stress.
