Provide value upfront. How I reached out to a space manufacturing company. Posted: 05 Mar 2021 03:31 AM PST Back in December, I did something that led to business talks with Varda Space (space manufacturing company) founders and generated eight leads from a lucrative segment (VCs, deep tech companies) Here is the story: As a software design and development agency owner, I double down on having horizontal knowledge that allows me to know just something from many industries. As we all know, the Space Industry is booming right now. I came across Varda Space in TechCrunch, wanted to check their landing page, and noticed they don't have one. I was already familiar with Founders Fund and knew a little bit about the founder. The decision was quick - let's create a landing page concept and share it on Twitter. Here's the trick - The visual concept proves you have a good eye for design, but to increase your odds, you need to show you understand the industry and know how to navigate specific problem space. So I wrote a Twitter thread explaining what we thought Varda's most immense challenges were and how we would solve them. Eye-catching content + proof of understanding/expertise I know my case is UX/UI design specific, but I think you can transfer it to your business too. It boils down to a few steps.
Worst case, you end up with an nice portfolio item/showcase for future clients. Best case, you skip the line, and founders want to talk to you. Moreover, you get traffic, recognition, and leads from adjacent industries. I know it's easier said than done, and in the design and software space, it's probably more apparent than in various industries, but I believe the formula is rather universal. I have used this strategy a few times already, and the immediate results seem to be strongly connected to the engagement you get from the company/person itself. In the long term, it just works for you when you sleep. Today I'm going to have a call with a VC fund who had seen our concept last week, after months of inactivity :) UPDATE [link] [comments] |
hey guys, what ever happened to subscription boxes? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 08:44 PM PST i remember coming to this sub back a few years ago and subscription boxes were the rage as were alibaba to amazon schemes. I mean some of it worked but i wonder if anyone still hustles with subscription boxes. That's another reason why I got tired of the entrepreneurship journey, none of my businesses made enough money to replace my day job ( and took away a lot of my remaining free time) but hey it was fun so why not. anyway, some cool ideas came of it but i dont know if it ever held. Some guy said he was going to make candy packs to send every month from around the world. i'd buy a box or two of that.. [link] [comments] |
What to do together with girlfriend? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 12:01 AM PST When Im alone I work with my business, reading, investing, growing etc. But when Im with my girlfriend we often end up watching stupid TV shows etc to stay entertained and its conflicting with my values. What can I do together with my girlfriend that is atleast mildly constructive in some way? Anyone else feel like this? Tips are greatly appriciated. [link] [comments] |
Tell me about your non sexy side hustle that you started while working full time? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:40 AM PST As title suggests, want to hear about all those non sexy side hustles that you started while working full time? No AI for avacodo ripeness or anything along those lines - the good ole fashioned non sexy ones. [link] [comments] |
Tell me about your Side Gig that's truly on the side Posted: 05 Mar 2021 02:06 PM PST Hey friends, Looking for a ~$500 a month side gig I can do outside of my normal software job. Something that doesn't take time to scale up. I have a kid on the way and could use some extra cash. I like to think that I have an eclectic set of skills (both with manual labor and software/tech), but don't know where to focus. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Hustle and Grind or take your time? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 11:51 AM PST You often hear about people going days without sleep to accomplish their goals, planning every minute, potentially burning out or becoming depressed but moving mountains toward their goals. But then you also have those that will say to take your time for quality work and that you have plenty of time to accomplish your goals. One group assumes life is short and you have to hurry and accomplish your goals, while the other assumes a lifetime is very long and you have plenty of time to accomplish all that you want. Which side do you guys lean on, is it better to hustle and grind or go at projects little piece at a time and enjoy the process and breathe a little? [link] [comments] |
Any recommended analytics/heat mapping software? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 06:49 PM PST Hello, fellow entrepreneurs. I'm looking for some analytics/heat mapping recommendations. I've been using Hotjar for a while now but it's getting too costly for us. I'm eyeing Smartlook and Foresee since they're cheaper and Smartlook can be used on mobile apps. Has anyone used these before? And if you have a recommendation, please share. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

How do I achieve the lowest cost per conversion in an Ad? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 02:02 PM PST So I currently have an Ad running driving people over to My Spotify landing page. The goal of this ad is to convert people over to Spotify so they can stream my music. As of now I've achieved 0.66 cents per conversion, I'm trying to get this lower to about 10 cents per conversion. What are some of the the things I can do to lower my cost? I'm trying to optimize how ever I can, please help. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:08 AM PST So I have a circuit I have built and I want it to be made in a factory in China or some cheap place and have it assembled as much as I can there. How would I go about doing this? It's not a big design and uses an Arduino. Say if I wanted 100 or 250 made whats the most cost-effective way of doing this? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

How do you decide how much equity to give a business partner? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 01:07 PM PST I've had a business idea for a couple years now and I'm starting to take action. I've realized though, that I'm going to need some help to see it succeed. Never having a business partner before, I'm not sure how to go about it. Do you have to go 50/50 with a partner? Would anyone even want to sign on if it were less? I need both of us doing 100% of the work until it takes off and I can hire out. I appreciate your advice as I'm out of my depth on this issue! Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:50 AM PST This is some ridiculous and shitty mindset of some well funded startups & there is no point in for this lawsuit at all. I definitely feel bbisabully what do you guys think? [link] [comments] |
Is using paypal friends and family payment cheating? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:36 AM PST There is a website I spend money on. I need to send money to their PayPal account and they convert it to account balance for me. Yesterday I paid 1550 usd but I lost about $82 of credit that way. If I had used the friends and family payment, I would have needed to pay a $4 fee on top of the 1550 but I would have gotten the full $1550 amount on my account balance. Obviously, this isn't the intended use of the friends and family payment. My question is would this be considered cheating and could I get in trouble if I pay that way? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Market Analysis Services for European Companies Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:16 AM PST Hi r/Entrepreneur. I am looking for a tool / service that would allow me to identify / find or just check the commercial / finanacial insights of a company based on several criteria (namely geographical, market sector, etc..). I've had a interesting conversation with a sale guy from CreditSafe[1], which may fullfill my needs, yet is a different, maybe too much powerful tool that is aimed for forensic analysis and credit liability. Also, they ask me for a year subscription, yet I would like some more short (and cheap). Are there any other solutions. Keep i mind I'm looking for something working in the European countries, rather than in US. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
I posted an idea about 4 months ago, we took in feedback and today we launched on Product Hunt! Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:50 PM PST It was this moment that inspired me to build a platform where kids could share their ideas and knowledge with others. Today I'm happy to share our initial version of TeenUP with other parents and people who want to help invest in kids' education! We focused on creating a family-friendly and safe environment in our platform. We work hard to prevent bullying as well, using technology, human moderation, and feedback from parents to protect kids and parents alike. Our first students (and their parents!) love TeenUP because it allows them to gain new knowledge in short, fun videos. And we're avoiding discredited engagement tactics (such as dislikes) that have resulted in negative behavior on other platforms. We also have a special category of content so that more experienced students and education professionals can teach younger students as well. Maybe you can help kids learn to launch their own startup someday too? Please try out our app — or more importantly, share it with a student or parent that is looking for a new and engaging way to help kids learn. We'll be here all day to take your feedback! Do cold email pitches benefit from a personal approach ? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:05 AM PST I work as a labourer assembling pipeline in the oil fields. I have come up with a new design for one of the piece of machinery used for my job. I wanted to pitch my ideas to a couple manufactures. I made a very short email contacting the manufactures saying I have some ideas and asking if they take external designs. My friend suggested that I should include that I work in the field to show a more personal touch and knowledge in the field. I felt as though this could come of as " this dummy in the field thinks he has an idea " and wouldn't be taken as seriously What do you guys think ? Should I Include that I work in the field and just have a few ideas I want to pitch ? Or would this hurt me instead ? Thanks [link] [comments] |

What are some ideas to do with an abandoned bank building? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 05:50 PM PST It's actually a fairly new building on the busiest street in town. Town has a direct population of 15k and an indirect servicing population of well over 30k, maybe 45-50 depending on what's done and who/how I can attract. I saw one bank in Florida converted into a DMV. And it was really cool, only did the very basic stuff. In and out in less than 30 minutes or drive through teller whatever for DMV. Obviously I can't start a DMV but there's gotta be some good ideas out there to get the ball rolling on this. Thanks [link] [comments] |
"Crowd the cause" marketing - opinions? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:14 PM PST Hi, I was just considering the "crowd-the-cause" approach for businesses as an alternative to typical branding and direct marketing. I just discovered this sub while exploring all around about it. People talk about it in different ways, so I'll share the way it was explained to me: A brand is nothing without some values or ideas associated with it. Consumers need to be able to identify with a brand. Therefore, the same principles apply in both branding and crowdfunding. (That is how it was explained to me by the person who became sort of a mentor to me about Internet marketing, even though he does not claim to be an expert - I got some wisdom from him over the years.) Another bit of wisdom I received was something like this: Even if a brand is for something mundane, like oil changes or potato chips, it's missing an opportunity if they don't inspire people. So now the crowd-the-cause method is essentially a bandwagon technique applied to cause marketing. Obviously different businesses would need to do this in different ways, and it requires creativity. I'm hurting my brain trying to come up with ways to apply this idea. It seems more of a guiding principle rather than an actionable strategy. It's something like this: Entrepreneur/brand stops trying to show consumers how great it is. Instead, the entrepreneur/brand offers services/products in some way that expresses a value or moral that can inspire people so they tell all their friends, because the entrepreneur/brand is no longer making it about themselves - it's about some idea that resonates with people. I'll benefit a lot from any ideas you share and I'm grateful in advance.. !! [link] [comments] |
Any good ideas for peer to peer marketplace? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 08:05 PM PST I'm looking to make a peer to peer marketplace for a service I can provide for my local community. My community is pretty poor and has a lot of gang violence. I want to somehow make a meaningful contribution. Can someone throw some ideas at me or give me some advice on what I can focus on? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
