My Twin was added to my policy Insurance

My Twin was added to my policy

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 10:01 PM PST

I work in insurance as well, but I never have seen this happen wonder why. My brother and I are twins and for some reason insurance companies always place my brother on my policy. It's same issue with him. Right now, we're with State Farm; they added him to my policy. They also added me to his policy and of our cars come up in each other's name. Right now, we can see each other's policy information. We don't live with each other. How often does this happen? Also, five years ago, I was in a car accident and the accident showed up on his driving record. Is their anything else I should be doing to prevent the issue? Thanks all.

Lapse in Automobile Coverage - How Bad is That?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 03:12 PM PST

I live in the SF Bay Area (California).

I sold my car today. I'm not going to purchase another until the pandemic eases; maybe 4-6 months?

My insurance company urged me to continue my policy with just liability coverage [called a "nonowner" policy] so that I would not have a "lapse in coverage". Apparently whenever I do get a car and insurance, a "lapse" would be a "bad thing". I don't plan to do any actual driving.

My insurance company couldn't give me any numbers, other than to say the kind of car (safety rating) and my driving history are more important factors than this penalty.

    What do you think?

How much (in percentage or dollars) is a typical penalty for such a lapse?

Should I do this, or just cancel my policy completely?

    Thanks for your advice! :-)

Help with someone's car hitting my parked car & then my house [GA]

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 01:15 AM PST

Someone's car hit my parking car then hitting my house. Was trying to go through their insurance since I dont understand why I should have to pay anything. Their insurance will not send out their own adjuster. Their insurance is giving me the run around not accepting the quote to have my house repaired & offering about half the price. What options should I go?

    1. Might go ahead & try getting another quote or 2
    2. Go through my own insurance (i assume i'll pay deductible unless my insurance recoups it from them?)
    3. Get my own public adjuster
    4. Lawyer up?

    any recommendations?

Medi-Cal - Income change DURING getting procedures approved

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 10:24 PM PST

California - I am in the process of getting several procedures approved by Medi-Cal. Currently I am below the income limit for Medi-Cal, but I have a job offer that will put me above the income limit. Will reporting my income during the middle of getting my procedures approved drop me from Medi-Cal and force me to pay out of pocket (which if that happens I'd honestly rather not take the job).

Is there anyone working as an Insurance claims examiner remotely?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 12:45 AM PST

I have a bachelors in risk management and insurance, and want to start working towards my career in insurance! Hopefully one day i hope to get into product development or to become an underwriter however i find it increasingly difficult to break in. I thought why nor get my foot in the door with a claims position.

Sadly with my disability i'm very limited in my mobility. I find it hard to walk up steps, and struggle driving for long periods of time.

Is there claims examiners roles that are remote? How did you land the position? If you have any other career advice i'm all for it.

i've completed 1/8th of my cpcu designation so far.

    Help me, please

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 07:19 AM PST

I was driving a 2002 RAV4 that still ran great. Almost had 250k miles on it. We were keeping it to be a classic. I'm unemployed. Can't afford a new car. Some guy rear ended me and caused $5,600 in damage. His insurance company will likely total my car. They'll give me a check for probably $1500. But I need a car. I can't buy a car for $1500 - at least no one as good as the RAV was. I was keeping that car for the long-term. What can I do?

Two at-fault accidents within a week

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 04:17 PM PST

Long story short, I was involved in two at-fault accidents that occurred within a week. I was the only one involved in the first one. And in the second one, the driver that I hit ended up filling claims under my insurance for both their car and for bodily injury. I don't know if this is bad luck or what. I don't know if this helps, but I had a perfect record for 4 years ever since I got my license. No tickets, no accidents. And then all of a sudden this happens.

I know my insurance will go up.. but what are the other possible consequences? Will I be dropped? Will I have a hard time getting insurance again? I understand that the exact answers are to be answered by my agent but I just want to know what to expect until I can get to them on Monday.

Caught my neighbor backing into my car and driving away.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 03:10 PM PST

So a few weeks ago i came home and noticed my car's front mirror was folded in. I noticed a large scuff on the driver side door and as i took a closer look it was dented in. Someone apparently backed up on my car door. After investigating my security camera and considering the days i did drive the car and didn't i saved some video clips of a few cars that drove by my car. I reduced those clips to 3 videos, one of which is at night and shows a car positioned like they just hit my car and driving away. (it was at night and because its not a dash camera and just a security cam, it activated right as the hit had happened.) I went back a few hours earlier and noticed a car pulling it parking perpendicular to me. I live in a gate community and was parked parallel to my house. There is a house across from me which has spaces that would allow them to park perpendicular to me. And before you guys say its my fault for parking in a way that makes it hard for them to back out, please understand that Im parked in the way that I am because my neighbors in front of me lets me, she isnt using that space and I had informed her that if Im ever blocking her, to just let me know and Ill move my car to my backyard. After further investigating who owns this car and color in the community I find out its the house to the right of me. So they had parked in a spot not even theirs. I had issues with this house in the pass basically parking in front of my house , claiming its not our spot specifically. Anyways, I file a police report and tell my insurance about the situation and they both tell me it's not something they can do because I didnt physically see it and my camera didn't record their plate. Fast forward a day later when I decide to speak to them about it. When i knocked at the door the wife answers and the husband isn't home. She tells me she doesn't know anything about it and agrees to let me look at her car. After inspecting the car I notice scratches on the rear bumper and blue paint. (my car is blue.) Now it becomes obvious its them although she denies it. I take some pictures along with their plate and send it into my insurance and theirs later on. I speak with the husband later and he denies it as well. My mom noticed him washing and buffing out his car a few days later when Im at work. Their insurance also left their info with my brother. I call their insurance and their rep lets me know that he saw the pictures and contacted them. They are unwilling to send him picture of the bumper and he says if they dont send pictures of a bumper without damages, they will be at fault. Some last bit of info, my car isn't fully insured because I dont drive it that much, its only insured to cover someone else because Im a pretty safe driver, because of this i haven't brought it to get fixed. With all that being said, does anyone know what my next steps are to take? Will their insurance contact me and issue me a payment or give me a shop to go to? Or is it possible for them to get away with this? I think the worst part is that there's people like this denying all this with all the proof available.

TL:DR: neighbor backed into my car, i caught it on camera, found their car with damages and reported it to their insurance which is now waiting on their defense of pictures of a undamaged bumper which they are stalling. Im not insured enough for hit and run and am waiting on their insurance to have my car fixed. Whats going to happen next?

Please Help: Auto Insurance Scam MRI results from ‘automotive injury health care facility’

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 08:49 PM PST

I'm a 22 yo male and was recently in a fairly rough car accident — but I left the site walking and have most just had a sore lower back (more so if I walk longer distances) but it's just been 7 days so this seems normal.

I went to an 'auto accident health care and physical therapy' location. They were super nice but I noticed they had THEIR preferred mri site, THEIR lawyers, THEIR spinal specialist, etc...

If I tried to suggest an alternative provider they would always offer a reason to use their provider 'in my interest' even saying they are treating me as they would their own son.

They told me I had a herniation in my lower back. I told her I was going to have the MRI reviewed by a family friend and she preemptively stated that her radiologist was the best in the city...

My family friend who is a 25 year radiologist from an Ivy League university... he said absolutely nothing was wrong with my spine and their is no herniation.

I also suggested I had a lawyer already referred to me and the owner of the automotive recovery place called me at 9pm 'to be nice' to say that the person I was to use was going to be mean and too aggressive and to use her referral...

When I told her that my personal radiologist said I was fine, she started saying she gets no fees or commission from any of her referrals and she just cares about me... she also went on about how they are board certified, independent radiologists, again they are the best, etc...

I'm 99% sure this is a scam, but can I have a sanity check? What to do next? And is this a known form of scam? I'm base in Florida btw.

My back is a bit sore, nothing above a 2 or 3 in pain but I really just want to know what's going on with this whole situation.

Does being diagnosed with anxiety have any impact on health/life insurance?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 07:07 PM PST

I'm a student who got diagnosed with anxiety and started taking meds for it while on school insurance. I'll most likely be off of the meds after few months. I'll most likely get my insurance through my job in the future, but I'm wondering if my current diagnosis will have any impact on my future insurance chances/rates.

Missed the deadline to file a claim?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 05:50 PM PST

My roof was damaged during a storm on Christmas Eve 2020. I called a roofer out to give me an estimate. Then I decided to see if I could get insurance to pay for it. I put the claim in and the adjuster came to inspect. Now the insurance company is saying that I was supposed to file the claim within 72 hours of the loss. Are they going to deny the claim. If they do, how can I appeal?

No rebate from safeco for water leak detection systems

    Maiden vs. Married Name [USA]

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 04:20 PM PST

I have two insurances, UnitedHealthcare is my primary and Medicaid is my secondary. I am a dependent under UH and my parent is the policy holder. Obviously, I'm the policy holder under Medicaid.

I got married a couple of years ago. UH still has my maiden name listed on their policy. Due to personal reasons, my parent refuses to change my last name with UH and I cannot change it myself, since I'm a dependent. My Medicaid is listed under my married name. So my two insurance cards have two different last names on them.

I recently had a baby and have been dealing with the nightmare of insurance from my OB office. I've explained to them what the insurance situation is, have tried to have them bill each insurance under each last name, but they refused and said they could only use one last name for both insurances. I've tried to have them only bill Medicaid, but they told me they cannot do this as Medicaid is my secondary and they can't bill it as primary. Eventually I just told them to use my married name, since it's my legal name.

They called me today and told me I have a claim from August 2020 (and potentially many other claims from further follow up appointments) that is not being approved because I need to update my last name. I explained to them that I'm not that policy holder and unfortunately cannot update my name, but that Medicaid should cover anything UH doesn't. Apparently they never billed Medicaid because they were waiting for a denial from UH, and now it's "too late," to bill Medicaid. I eventually got a manager involved and she decided she would go back and retroactively bill UH under maiden name and Medicaid under married name, and then "hope that it works, because if not you'll be on the hook."

What are my options here? What should I prepare for legally speaking? Is there anything I can do about this situation?

And no, I can't get my maiden name changed with UH. Believe me, I've tried.

    CA Health Insurance & QLEs

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 03:58 PM PST

I lost my job so my partner and I are entering into a domestic partnership so I can go on his health insurance. That will probably take a month or two to process so I found a pretty basic health insurance that covers emergencies to hold me over - it doesn't meet California's insurance standards so I can only be on that plan for 3 months before I risk a tax penalty but it shouldn't be an issue since I expect the domestic partnership to clear and for me to be able to go on my partners insurance within a month or two. Is this an ok plan? Is there anything I have to worry about? My understanding is that losing my job was a QLE and that getting a domestic partnership is a QLE so I shouldn't have any issues with enrollment.

Is there anything to know about filing a renters insurance claim (theft last summer) with multiple policies taken out with different companies that cover the same thing (in Texas)?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 03:34 PM PST

Let's say someone's storage unit got broken into last summer, this person has the insurance provided through the storage place, and they also have a renters policy with USAA.

Let's say this person already filed a claim on the USAA policy a month or so ago, which covered 100% of the lost items, maxing out the policy payout.

Let's say today this person called the storage insurance company to file a claim for the same lost items on that policy, and during the claim intake phone call was asked if any other claims have been filed for this loss (to which he/she answered honestly).

Is there a time limit to file a property theft claim? Let's say the USAA adjuster said insured had a year to file a claim during that process, are they all the same?

Is there any reason you can't file more than one property theft claim for the same loss if you're paying for the (redundant) insurance coverage?

To clarify, this post isn't about defrauding. I know you can have multiple life insurance policies which will all pay out if the insured person passes. Kind of want to confirm (or deny?) renters insurance works the same way, also interested in having the right questions answered that I haven't asked because I don't know enough about this subject matter.

    Thanks!

Ps: yes I know this post is r/suspiciouslyspecific

Healthy Michigan Plan Is Not Qualified Health Coverage

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 09:22 AM PST

I live in Michigan and have Healthy Michigan Plan (Medicaid) managed by Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP), a privately managed Medicaid/Care company.

UPHP gave me a letter stating that my insurance is not qualified healthcare coverage.

That means I cannot select $50,000 Personal Injury Protection (PIP) for my auto insurance, costing me more money.

What's up with that? My type of Medicaid doesn't qualify (won't pay out for auto accidents) but other Medicaid qualifies (e.g. "straight Medicaid")?

Edit: excerpt from letter my health insurance sent me:

    "Dear UPHP Member:

Your Medicaid health benefits through the Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) are not considered qualified health coverage as defined in MCL 500.3107d(7)(b)(i). Your auto insurance agent may ask to see this letter when you renew your auto insurance policy."

Anyone have experience with Branch homeowners insurance?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 02:56 PM PST

I was shopping for a new policy after our rate went up by almost $700 with our old company. I came across Branch insurance and their premium was just over $1400 for this next year. The company we are with now (a major carrier and household name) was going to be almost $2400.

Anyhow, some googling found that they are a new company, recently expanded into my state, and, well, that's all i could really find. No negative things on their BBB entry.

So two questions for anyone still listening - first is this possibly a bad idea to get involved with a brand new insurance company? And 2nd, if anyone has experience with Branch I'd like to hear your experience.

advice regarding my insurance rate after 2 accidents

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 02:47 PM PST

Hi guys, I need some advice.

I was originally paying around 850 for 6 months for my auto insurance, however, there was a minor accident that happened back in November of 2020 where I backed-up into this truck's tire.

At the time of the accident, there was no visual damage to the car since I lightly bumped onto his tire at max 5mph. Since I didn't hear anything back from my insurance company after the initial claim, I thought there wasn't going to be any repairs done.

Today, I received a bill from my insurance company for my 6 month premium, and it turns out to be around 2000 dollars for 6 months.

I was baffled to see that number since my rate has more than doubled and I was not aware of any big changes in my driving record. I called my insurance company (geico), and soon figured out that there was an internal parts that was replaced to the car that I hit and there was indeed a payout for the repair.

I just can't believe that there was a repair done to the car since there was literally 0 damage to the car. I still have photos and videos from the accident that clearly reflects that...

Now, I've been trying to shop around for a different auto insurance but now that there are two accidents that I had gone through in the past 3 years (one before happened 2018 december, which I was fully in fault for), it's really difficult to find one that fits in my budget.

I work from home and doesn't really drive much anymore...

Any advice on what I can do from here on?

Is there any way to fight my last claim?

I will greatly appreciate any advice you guys can give...

My fertility clinic submitted wrong codes

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 01:54 PM PST

I am with Cigna in Georgia which covers fertility treatments. The clinic we used was out of network so we pay 30% which is okay.

All of the appointments, ultrasounds, bloodwork etc...have been submitted to Cigna with what they say is the wrong code. There are simple labs there that are thousands of dollars. And they are still 'unpaid'. Although it says patient owes zero...

Cigna told me they would just have to resubmit using the correct code but they haven't done this yet and it's been a while now. This is already such a stressful process and with this on top isn't helping! Not sure if I should contact the clinic or let it be? I feel like I am just waiting to wake up with a huge bill.

    AFSB 153 Virtual Test

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 01:09 PM PST

I'm currently working on getting my AFSB designation and have completed AFSB 151, 152, and CPCU 240. Right now, I'm about to take the virtual exam for AFSB153 which is commercial surety, crime insurance, and financial institution bonds. I was wondering if anyone that has recently taken this virtually (due to covid) has any tips on what to focus on the most during studying. The virtual tests are 60 mins and 50 questions, so the narrower my focus can be on the topics will be extremely helpful considering the time constraint. Thanks!

PS- this is through The Institutes website
