Budget rental accident and mastercard cc claim Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:18 PM PST Hi all, I was in an accident in NY state while renting a budget rental vehicle. The rental company sent a damage estimate of around $11600( 9.5 for damage, ~800 loss of use, 200 admin fee, 100 for towing, 950 for diminished value). Out of this mastercard paid 9.5 for damage and the 100 for towing. They refused to pay for the admin fee , loss of use(because budget didn't provide proof) and the diminished value. Now, using the claim number that budget provided, I was able to use the sedgwick pay my auto claim website to check the pending balance. Recently however, mastercard sent out another 800usd to budget and called it a supplemental payment. My question is any idea what the supplemental payment is supposed to mean? Does it mean the claim has been totally settled with budget? I must mention that a few days after this payment was sent, when I tried to check the pay my claim website to see the pending charges, I could no longer find my claim on it. I tried asking mastercard support for the meaning of this supplemental payment but the customer reps don't seem to know what this means exactly. That being said, what steps should I take now? How do I check if the claim has been settled? Should I call budget and ask them?(I'm worried that they'll unnecessarily try to milk more money out of me should I call them to ask). Moreover, I recently moved out of my old apartment so I have no clue if they have been sending any letters to my old address. I tried asking mastercard to provide me with a copy of the settlement letter but I haven't received any response yet. I just got 2 check numbers out of them. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:43 PM PST Vehicle was hit by a pickup plow and the drivers door does not open with other cosmetic damage to that side. Still drives and is safe to operate. Current repair estimate(13.5K) from the body shop is over the value of the vehicle (13K). Would insurance still opt to total? If so, I was thinking about keeping the vehicle and trying to clear the salvage title. If the vehicle still operates and functions safely minus the door, Would it be clear to inspect and gain a rebuilt title? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2021 08:50 PM PST Location: Texas I'm on the fence about getting a lawyer, so I was thinking that I could just see the settlement offer, then if I don't agree I could get a lawyer. Is this something that would like bad on my part or weaken my case? In May of 2019 I was involved in a MVC in which I was not at fault. Since then I have been receiving treatment for upper back pain. I had 2 x-rays that both came back negative and did about 15 rounds of physical therapy. From the doctor's diagnosis I was under the impression that it was just a soft tissue injury that was taking quiet some time to heal, so my plan was to just do the necessary treatment and then settle with the insurance when I felt that I'd healed and accept whatever offer they gave as long as it covered medical expenses and what I've paid out of pocket. Eventually, the doctor ordered a MRI which showed my pain to be as a direct result of cervical radiculopathy and a displacement of a cervical intervertebral disc. I received a cervical epidural injection, which I've been told may or may not work. My concern at this point in time is that in May I will be hitting the 2 year statue of limitations to settle and by then I may or may not be healed. I asked the adjuster about this in terms of future pain and suffering and she said they don't account for future expenses in their settlement, so that's what has me concerned. I've paid quiet a bit out of pocket so far even with health insurance, so if I did try to settle on my own I'd want to ensure that at the very least it'll cover any future expenses. What Healthcare Plan do I Even Have, and Where Can I Use It??? Posted: 12 Feb 2021 04:13 AM PST I don't understand health insurance very much at all, and for most of my adult life I was military with TRICARE, and that was super easy to navigate. Now, I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield through my employer and I am so confused. First, I have the "Anthem Buy-Up Plan," because it seemed best to fit my needs for now based on the options shown when signing up. So I understand sorta how it works, but I don't understand which plan it technically is. When trying to find a provider, the plan options listed for search criteria are: Blue HPN, BlueCard PPO, BlueCard PPO Basic, Traditional, Traditional PPO, and BlueValue. Do I have one of these? How do I know which one I have and therefore which providers will take my insurance? Second, I have seen some things about national versus state BCBS, so I don't know if I have to see a provider in my specific state or not. I live in North Carolina, but my job (and therefore I guess my employer-sponsored medical insurance) is in Virginia. Can I see a North Carolina provider, or do I have to go to one in Virginia? Finally, I am unable to login to see any specifics about my plan because I still don't have a member card and haven't been told my member number. My coverage started two months ago, but I have no idea how to access my account or schedule any appointments until I get a card. [link] [comments] |
Crashed my car this week and unsure about tire tread... Posted: 12 Feb 2021 04:02 AM PST So unfortunately this week I crashed my car whilst driving out of my street. I was going about 5-6 mph due to the ice and unfortunately the tires locked up and I wasn't able to avoid colliding with another car. I had my MOT in December and they informed me that I'd need new tires in the next 2-3 months due to the tread being a little on the low side. However, since I've been working from home every day since the start of January I assumed my tread would still be okay for another few weeks before I booked in an appointment to have the relevant tires changed. I'm worrying now that since I've had this collision it could be mentioned that my tread is too low, possible leaving me with fines / points on my license... Am I just over worrying here ? What would you recommend ? [link] [comments] |

Any heard of Narragansett Bay Insurance Company? Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:55 AM PST A local independent agent gave me a quote from them for homeowners that is a lot less than the other quotes I have. I have quotes USAA, State Farm, etc. are all in the same ballpark--within $100 / year of each other. This quote is about $800 / year less. They don't have rating from AM Best or the other big rating companies. Demotech gave them a rating of "A, Exceptional." I'm a little worried about using a smaller, less known company but I also don't mind saving money. Location: Long Island, NY [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Feb 2021 01:45 AM PST I had a motor vehicle accident when I was 12 in November 2019. I have been doing rehabilitation due to an ACL injury. My physiotherapist said I am able to go back so I signed up to basketball again since I hadn't played it competitively since 2019. My mom then realised that my case for a claim was still ongoing and that they could offer less if I went back because they might think I was better. They will give us an offer next month, would I be able to go back now, when they start negotiations or when the case is settled ? I live in New South Wales Australia. [link] [comments] |
Minor collision Damage, other party lied (NY) Posted: 12 Feb 2021 01:29 AM PST Hi, I'm looking for a little advice on what I should do. I was driving on a highway, staying in my lane, and get bumped into on my passenger side. The other driver was looking to get in my lane to take an exit that was coming up to the left, and I guess wasn't paying attention, which caused the collision. Called police, Highway Patrol arrived and wouldn't write a police report. We leave, other driver takes the exit which the cop had to block traffic to let her on, and I continue straight. I called my insurance provider while waiting for the police to arrive. Eventually insurance tells me that the other driver told her provider that I merged into her lane and hit her. Because of this, it was considered we're both no-fault, so I have to pay for my own deductibles. I'm planning on calling the cop that came to the scene tomorrow to try to get a statement, as well as seeing if he'll provide the statement to my insurance rep, and possibly try to get his dash cam footage of the other driver taking the exit. Is there anything else I could do? Should I prepare to contact my lawyer to possibly sue for the damages? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Feb 2021 12:02 AM PST Had an accident recently. I was turning left to enter the freeway, and the other car was turning right on a red onto the same frontage road. He went into the middle lane which merges with my lane. I tried to brake and swerve when I realized he was in my lane but scratched his car a little. We didn't call insurance (he claims I am at fault even though I am skeptical) and he just wants the paint fixed. My car is fine. Should I just call this guys bluff and get my insurance involved? I had a green left turn light and don't see how he would have had the right of way here. Phoenix, Arizona Intersection diagram in comments. [link] [comments] |
Would I submit warranty paperwork to my insurance for determining car value? Posted: 12 Feb 2021 12:01 AM PST I was involved in a tbone accident today where someone jumped a stop sign and I tried to swerve when I realized but ended up smashing right into their wheel well and destroying my front end. It was JUST rebuilt last week after a hit and run in December so all outside parts, lights and electric on the front end plus the hood were brand new. Additionally, my vehicle had 11k of work done on warranty through Honda two years ago. The entire engine and all components were replaced, essentially meaning I have only 25k on my engine. I have all paperwork for the repair and for the collision repairs done last week. My car is a 2013 Honda Insight hybrid with 121k on it. I'm completely devastated, this car is my baby and I just dropped 1k on the deductible for the hit and run. I'm almost certain it's going to be deemed a total loss as my airbags deployed and The front end damage is pretty nasty - although it is less than the damage previously, so who knows. Question is - in determining the value of my car, will the 11k in warranty repairs make a difference given that it's basically a brand new engine? Should I submit that? Will the brand new front end increase the value of the market price as well? Lastly, if it's determined a total loss, am I still able to submit a claim for damages under my own insurance if I want to repair it? I do have gap coverage but my loan has 2.5 years left and I don't have any ability to purchase another vehicle right now, so even though I'd be out from under the loan I'd still be pretty screwed. If it helps, market price on cada is 7500 from dealer, 4-5k private seller in good condition. Prior front end repairs for more extensive damage were 3400 but no airbags deployed in that scenario. Got cancer. Lost job. Car repossessed. Lien holder made auto insurance claim. Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:24 PM PST As the title says I got cancer last year. My job fired me as my illness didn't match with their company goals. I have not been able to work nor pay all my Bill's. The bank, Security Services Federal Credit Union, in Texas repossessed my car while I was in hospital just before Christmas. I cancelled my auto insurance as I cannot afford to get the car back. The bank has filed a claim for a few minor damages that I had planned to have fixed, but ran out of time and money to do. I am unfamiliar with all of this and looking for advice as to what I should do. [link] [comments] |
Job change from claims to agent? Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:10 PM PST Hi all. Property claims adjuster here. Like the title says, I'm considering a job change from claims to being an agent. I had zero insurance background before becoming a claims adjuster. I find claims very interesting and I love providing coverage and helping people understand the insurance claim process but I'm starting to get burnt out dealing with the incredibly heavy claim load and constantly de-escalating stressed-out angry policyholders and being blamed for policy exclusions and deductible amounts. Has anyone moved from the claim side to becoming an agent? I feel like the claim experience will help me to explain coverages better but I haven't done much other research into the process of switching career tracks. Any tips, thoughts, advice? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Insurance on a old car question. Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:15 PM PST I have a pretty old car, a 1985 buick electra estate wagon. I was just wondering what would happen if I have full coverage and totaled my car. Would they give me enough money to even buy another car or would they give me what I paid for it, $500. I have liability only because I know it wont be worth any money to repair it but now I'm wondering what would happen if it got totaled with full coverage. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:07 AM PST I applied for a policy in December, disclosing that I had breast cancer 7 years ago and provided the details about my treatment. I had been waiting for enough time to pass after my treatment ended to be able to apply. My agent finds a company that will accept me, we send in the forms, I go in for the blood test, everything seems fine. While I'm waiting for underwriting, I go to a routine check up with my oncologist and he finds a lump. Follow up tests show the cancer has recurred. Am I just fucked? I don't expect this to kill me within 2 years, hopefully not for many years. But I'd feel a lot better if I had life insurance. [link] [comments] |
Do you pay for what you get in car insurance? Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:18 PM PST I have Geico but I'm consistently given offers "as low as $xx" which is significantly cheaper than what I'm paying now. The cheaper quote would be only for the absolute minimum coverage needed in Texas. I've never gotten in an accident but I wonder if I would actually benefit with a more reputable firm like Geico vs a cheaper insurance company. I'm aware a more established firm will have better customer service and less headaches filing a claim but will I actually benefit or not benefit for a single claim? For example... hypothetically in the same identical crash...would I experience a win or a loss depending on the quality of my insurer or are there some sort of insurance regulatory standards that will protect me? Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:08 AM PST i was driving on the highway when another car cut me off, causing me to slam my brakes and swerve in order to avoid him. as a result i spun out and collided with the wall, and the other driver left. another driver pulled over behind me and gave me dash cam footage, showing that the other was weaving between traffic and cut across two lanes of traffic when trying to merge into my lane. i was only able to make out his license plate. in the footage, it shows my car swerving and potentially touching another vehicle. me and that guy exchanged contact information (no insurance exchanged, but i am insured) and we both left the scene as the damage was minor (with my vehicle taking most of the damage from colliding with the wall. upon further inspection of my vehicle, my front bumper isn't consistent with the damage he's claiming. the footage shows the moment of impact and my car didn't cause his to move. i'm assuming if i was swerving so hard, i would've at least managed to make his car move by coming into contact with it. no police report was filed, but i have dash cam footage, a third party witness, and the license plate of the phantom driver. what are my options? this is tri-state area, usa [link] [comments] |
I wanna suggest my Flooded Car be totaled. Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:09 PM PST After reading posts here and on other sites, I feel like my car should be a Total Loss. It was flooded in a dirty mud puddle during a storm and had water up the the bottom of my seats inside, dash said service airbag, engine light on and off, traction light on, on and off white smoke from exhaust. I got some water out, but it has been sitting soaked since Saturday night and today is Thursday, dealership has yet to be able to look at it. Insurance said it may be a Total Loss but want to do some tests first, the 1st appraisal that they did in the parking lot came to $2400 for repairs. If it ends up not being a total loss, can I suggest it ? The car has damage already, and is only worth maybe $8000 in good condition, and I am worried about smell and electrical issues down the road because I need a reliable vehicle for work. Never been through this before and everything I have seen says if it isn't totaled I will have "electrical gremlins" for problems down the road. Advice ? In Florida. [link] [comments] |
Rear ended and at fault party doesn't have enough to cover medical. What are my options? Posted: 11 Feb 2021 04:26 PM PST Been a few years now and the at fault party is wanting to settle due to liens placed by my carrier. I've been reluctant due to stopping my cortisone injections because Covid. Been off pain killers and trying to manage with the cold temps (sore and hard to sit for longer periods). My lady is recovering and feeling aches with the cold. Figured we would wait until things warm up and see what we're gonna be living with. We have another year to settle. I have great PIP coverage with $100k bodily per person. All of our medical bills and totaled car has been paid by State Farm (our coverage). USAA is not disputing the claim but has a $50k medical limit per person. The claims guy mentioned waving subrogation rights and taking the settlement money direct. Where i would then talk with my insurer about uninsured coverage (which I have). He offered $32k to cover medical bills and pain and suffering for my wife of which $12k is for P&S. He offered $50k for my medical and I have $66k outstanding. $36k ($3k/mo) was paid to me for work compensation for missing 1 year of work. I make 3x that on average. Not sure how I go about getting that? How does this work with my carrier moving forward generally speaking? Do I take the available offer and then work with my insurer over what pain and suffering is worth? How do they assess this kind of matter with loss of work etc? I really don't want to get a lawyer involved as there really doesn't seem to be money to pay. Appreciate any insight you guys can offer. [link] [comments] |
Health Insurance help in Massachusetts Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:57 PM PST Hey everybody! I'm looking for advice to help my girlfriend who is in a difficult situation. We are located in Massachusetts. She's about to turn 26 and will be getting kicked off her families health plan. She is currently unemployed with the only income for the last year coming from unemployment benefits. She can't afford to pay much for health insurance but at the same time has expensive health needs. She has a chronic condition which requires medication that costs $600 per month without insurance. She also sees a specialist for this condition at Mass General Hospital once a year. It is very important that she can keep getting this medication covered and we would definitely prefer if she can keep seeing this same specialist. Everything else is negotiable in terms of primary care doctors and other benefits. I know we have Mass Health here but we are unsure how those plans work and if she will be able to keep her doctor at mass general. We would really appreciate your advice on how best to proceed and maintain coverage for what she needs. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Renters insurance company was unable to confirm/recognize my address. Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:43 PM PST Michigan - I'm not well versed with insurance and I'm worried that if I do need to make a claim in the future on my renters insurance it will be denied. My address listed on my lease and the address the insurance company came up with when I was given a quote is different. It's a small difference, my lease states it is Stark Road and they were only able to come up with Stark Drive. The same thing happened when I tried to set up my electricity service. I contacted my leasing consultant to ensure that the lease was correct and verified on a couple maps that it is indeed Stark Road. I'm not exactly sure what the issue is here... haha it seemed that the only way I could complete these two services would be to set up a policy under Stark Drive. If I did need to file a claim would I be denied because the address does not match up with their file? Hopeful that I'm excessively overthinking this. [link] [comments] |
(Very) Small Business Liability Insurance Questions Posted: 11 Feb 2021 12:18 PM PST I'm working on a project with the aim of bringing small fundraisers like gofundmes to larger audiences. While no money will change hands on my site and I get no cut of any donations, users are pointed to payment methods such as gofundme, cashapp, etc for individual fundraisers. I'm currently working with a lawyer to craft terms and conditions, but I can definitely see liability issues if one of the posted fundraisers turns out to be a scam. There's an additional liability issue if a donor harassed the poster of a fundraiser. My plan is to run the business as a zero-revenue LLC. My questions:
I've gone through a number of online estimate forms, but all of them found no plans, I'm guessing due to the zero-revenue bit. Any help is much appreciated. Edit: I am in Oregon, USA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:01 PM PST My daughter had surgery last year in July. BCBS, her primary insurer, paid their full contracted rate as she had met her max out of pocket for the year. The claim was then sent to Cigna, her secondary insurer. They processed the claim as if BCBS had paid nothing, using their higher contracted rate. They applied the BCBS payment toward their 75% coinsurance and my responsibility was 25% of Cigna's contracted rate, the same amount I would have paid if I was only paying for the Cigna plan alone. I have made multiple phonecalls to Cigna and they insist this was processed correctly, that they get the benefit of the primary payment, not me, even though I am the one paying for 2 insurance plans. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? If so, why would anyone pay for 2 plans if it would cause me to pay more money than if I only had one? ETA: We are in Texas. [link] [comments] |
USA & Canada; MIB group - how is information fed in, what is 'safe' to tell my Doctor about? Posted: 11 Feb 2021 05:39 PM PST Just learned about the MIB Group, it holds health records for US and Canadian citizens and shares those records to > 90% of health insurance companies and >80% of life insurance companies in the USA. I've heard people who get information their MIB record being unable to get life insurance, or paying steep penalties on insurance, some of the stories are quite beneign, like one person told their doctor they smoked marijuana it's now in their MIB record and could impact their ability to get future insurance. You can ask for your file on mib.com. My question is, is it prudent to withhold health and lifestyle information from your Doctor if a) you feel you have your health condition managed b) you feel you understand drug interactions and c) you believe either lifestyle or preexisting conditions might be used against you in the future when trying to get either life or health (or disability) insurance? It seems like the existence of this group might severely curtail doctor patient relationships. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
My friend is in a tough spot and I'm wondering how to get her dental coverage ASAP Posted: 11 Feb 2021 04:29 PM PST Hey everyone! My friend (lives in Nevada, US) had her teeth jacked up by a scam artist dentist years ago who gave her unnecessary fillings and suffers from chronic dental pain as a result. Here's the current situation: She is covered under her mom's health insurance (she's under 26) but not for dental. She did not know her moms insurance didn't have dental coverage for her (her mistake, she just assumed). She just had her last day of one job today, where she did not take their insurance since she was on her moms, and is starting a new job on Tuesday the 16th, from which will have dental and she will be getting it through her new employer. Problem is, they have a 90 day wait period before she can be covered, and she is in some pretty bad pain and is hoping not to wait that long. I tried to look into how to get her covered during the 90 days and I have gotten mixed results online if changing jobs is a qualifying event in this case. Specifically, since she is still going to be covered under her parents health insurance until the 90 days is up, then she is switching to her new employers. So she will still have health insurance in the meanwhile but not dental...What can she do? Thanks so much!! [link] [comments] |
