PSA: When shopping around for Auto Insurance. Posted: 07 Jan 2021 09:04 AM PST Make sure you have your current coverages in front of you and the price that you pay. When you call in and ask for a quote and we ask what are your current coverages , the most frustrating thing(IMO) is when the person says "I dont know or I dont have them on me." Why are you quoting if you cant make sure it's an apples to apples quote? We cant see what you currently have. Literally 50% of my Auto quotes are assumptive data bc people dont want to get their current info. [link] [comments] |
Condo damaged due to tenant upstairs. Who pays? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 11:12 PM PST There was a plumbing issue in the unit above mine due to negligence which caused massive water damage to my unit. The upstairs owner's insurance denied my claim because the upstairs tenant apparently did not tell his landlord about the plumbing issue when it first occured. The tenant does not have renters insurance. I know I will have to file a claim with my insurance to cover the damages. My question is tho, will my insurance go after the tenant for damages? If there's no repercussions for their negligence, what's to prevent them from just letting things get bad again, which will result to my unit flooding again? Remediation was not cheap and I'm really annoyed that my rates are going to go up now because they were negligent. Thanks in advance. Edit: this is in California [link] [comments] |
Just got my car back from repairs... Posted: 08 Jan 2021 12:42 AM PST Located in North Dakota. Allstate. I filed a comprehensive claim due to a deer accident. The auto body shop has been shady. I looked over my paperwork again and they left out my side mirror that was damaged in the accident. I looked closer at my side mirror and I can see there is still damage and there is still deer fur stuck in my window and on the side mirror. How do I go about getting this added onto my claim? I was incredibly close to having my vehicle deemed a total loss. They started work prior to doing a total loss assessment and now I'm thinking they left it out because it would have gone over the total loss amount for my state. My vehicle is also pulling heavily to the right. They said they did an alignment but I'm not understanding how an alignment was done if my vehicle is still pulling. [link] [comments] |
Do Auto Insurance Companies look at CarFax when adjusting rates or Payout values of vehicles? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 10:38 PM PST Hello Reddit, So I was looking to buy a vehicle which intially checked out fine. I even paid a mechanic to look at the vehicle to verify that the vehicle was solid and did not appear to be have been in any wrecks. I unfortunately found damage history when going through the "CARFAX" The CarFax notes "Severe Damage" - But never rendered un-drivable. Also does not report it as an accident. The CARFAX still notes the vehicle as the following: - Clean title - NO structural Damage - NO Airbag Deployment - NO Total loss I also have an "AUTOCHECK" of the Vehicle that actually shows no damage and a squeaky clean history. I know its a funny situation, but I mainly just want to know if this auto history will be used against me to raise the initial quote I was given to insure the vehicle? How much could this affect the value of the vehicle if it was ever deemed a loss. All thoughts are appreciated. [link] [comments] |
[CA]Claiming insurance benefits into store credit? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 10:36 PM PST I was referred by my colleague to an optometry office in my area. Apparently, they promise that they can claim my vision insurance coverage into their store credits, and I can use it whenever I want without it expiring. The only thing I have to do is deposit money into their store, and the insurance company will reimburse me later. I've never heard of this kind of practice before, and is it even legal? Do I need HO6 if condo master is all-in? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 06:13 PM PST I recently refinanced my condo and keep receiving letters from the loan company asking for HO6 coverage. My understanding is HO6 is for interior of my condo, but my condo master policy is all in coverage. Do I still need HO6? I'm in MA if that helps. [link] [comments] |
Some help with COBRA insurance Posted: 07 Jan 2021 09:27 PM PST I was laid off just before Thanksgiving and my health insurance ended the end of November. I elected to sign up for COBRA. I have some medical problems that I need the insurance. Before the end of November I ordered December's medication to avoid any problems with the insurance. I have since made 2 payments to COBRA, sending them a check in the mail made out to my former employer. This month I haven't been able to order my prescription. I called my health insurance and they say my insurance was terminated 11/30. Like I've said I sent out the payments to have COBRA coverage for December and January, with both checks being cashed. What do I do now? I contacted my former employer, they say they will look onto it but I'm now almost a week late on my prescription, which isn't cheap. Without insurance its about $5000 a month. Hospital asking to discharge then readmit. Doesn't sound right. Am I being paranoid? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 09:13 PM PST My brother is in a private Mexican hospital recovering from a serious health incident. He's been there for ~3 months. He has Blue Cross Blue Shield and they use a billing(?) intermediary called GeoBlue. The hospital also uses a third party to handle the insurance claim. We initially had a scare regarding coverage but are comfortable now that my brother's care will be covered. We spent hours with BCBS and GeoBlue. Now, the hospital's third party agency has asked if my sister in law can approve discharging my brother to have him immediately readmited. Apparently it is so the hospital can get paid. We expect my brother to be there at least another month. My sister in law asked for my guidance and I said thar it all sounds really odd to me. I would not do a discharge at all. Am I being paranoid? I'm stupid and need help with some insurance question. Posted: 07 Jan 2021 08:18 PM PST So my brother is looking for a new car whilst he is still financing his current car. Since my car is old. I said just transfer the lease over to me so he can just pay the new car. Now I'm shopping for insurance, and this is what I'm having trouble with. My brother told me that even though I will be driving the car, he won't be transferring the title, just the lease. So therfore he and I have to be under the same insurance because I won't be the actual owner of the car. I mean that makes sense but wouldn't it be possible that o be the only one under the insurance because say for instance I get into a accident or get a ticket, wouldn't he be affected because he is under the insurance yet not responsible for the car? Please I need the insurance savvy peoples help on this one. Thank you guys. Edit: spelling, grammar, on phone.I live in california. [link] [comments] |
Diminished Value Claim with USAA Posted: 07 Jan 2021 08:10 PM PST My poor car had a rough week when someone hit and ran into the rear of it (no note left) while it was parked on the street, smashing in the rear bumper. Three days later, the recent nor'easter caused a large tree to fall on my car. I have both Uninsured Motorist coverage (for the hit and run) and Comprehensive coverage (for the fallen tree). Therefore I have made two separate claims and I am looking to make a diminished value claim for each. One agent told me I could put in a diminished value claims for both incidents, while another has told me it can only apply to the hit and run. I am mostly concerned with the claim from the fallen tree covered under comprehensive insurance, as the damage to the car was roughly ~$5,000 on my 2020 Corolla vs the ~$700 of damage from the hit and run. Does anyone have experience with USAA and these claims? Can I make a claim for diminished value under my comprehensive coverage? Or would it only apply under my Uninsured motorists coverage? Any other advise would be greatly appreciate. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
$1700 Blood Test Billed! Please help me! Posted: 07 Jan 2021 07:35 PM PST Hi everyone! I really really need help! FYI, I use Anthem BCBS of NC. I went to see a hematologist last November 2020. Before I went in, I made sure to call my insurance ahead of time about the estimated price of the doctor and the relevant blood tests. We have an app from our insurance to check the estimated price in advance so I have an idea about how much it could cost. This evening, I received a bill (EOB) of $2200, and $1700 was for the blood tests. It was originally $2800, but insurance negotiated to $2200. I have done my research because I use Lab Corp with my other doctor, and the bill always come in like $6-$20 for each blood tests. I had around 8 blood tests done that day at the doctor office and got the result 5 mins after, so I expected to pay around $100, and the most is $200. One of the blood test is for Extractable Nuclear Antigen Antibodies, which I checked around is only $23 for places like Lab Corp. However, my bill for this is $600!!! They also mentioned that they use Lab Corp too, so why was the bill so much different? I really cannot accept it. CBC was $6 last time and this time, it is $32! Everything is just overcharged. I called Anthem BCBS, and the people there didn't help much. They said it is the way they bill it. I checked FairHealth and a few websites, and the price is usually $20 for that. How can I dispute this if it is overpriced or overcharged or wrongly billed like this? How can I fix this? I expect to pay $500-$600 for both doctor and lab, but now it is almost $2200! Please help me... :( [link] [comments] |
Comprehensive vs Collision: A few scenarios Posted: 07 Jan 2021 07:20 PM PST Just wondering if these events would be covered under comprehensive or collision auto insurance.
Assuming all of these incidents are worth claiming, what policy would they be covered under? For reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/eosg5v/heavy_winds_blew_a_shopping_cart_in_to_a_parked/ edit: in CA [link] [comments] |
Necessary qualifications to become an Underwriter / UW Assistant? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 06:06 PM PST Not sure if this is the place to ask this but I've been stumped in finding a career path as of late and just heard about Underwriting. I got my Bachelor's degree in 2014 but unfortunately it is in History as my plans were to teach but that didn't end up being the path for me. I've since bartended and traveled to enjoy my youth but now I'm 6 years out of college and my resume isn't suited for much besides liquor sales. Would I still be able to get my foot in the door as an Underwriting Assistant without a relevant degree and being so far removed from graduation? I've read that type of degree isn't particularly important but having no relevant job experience to highlight may make it tough I imagine? Appreciate any help in advance! Edit: Based in the southern part of Los Angeles County, so luckily a big metro area and can apply to jobs in LA and in Orange County [link] [comments] |

App to keep track of personal belongings for renter's insurance? Located in Iowa. Posted: 07 Jan 2021 05:28 PM PST Hey there. I've recently had to get renters insurance for my apartment and was now getting into the process of taking inventory and pictures of my belongings, a along with a purchase price. I have a ton of board games and figures (I'm a collector) and some more expensive electronics. Anyone have a suggestion of an app to track all of this? Or should I be using Excel and some cloud back up for photos? Both? I'm new to this, sorry. I downloaded Itemtopia which seems nice but I'd like to get the best (preferably not have to pay a subscription though...). I'd really appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |
Allstate dropping the ball, I think Posted: 07 Jan 2021 05:15 PM PST Chicago, IL I own my own business and have to drive a Step Van for it (like an old UPS truck). It is a Ford E450 with a Morgan Olson body. I have commercial truck and business insurance through Allstate. I got hit a month ago today (I received no tickets, but the person who hit me received two). Because of the shape of the truck, there are not many shops that work on it. I found a shop a few days after the accident and they took about two weeks to work on the quote for it. It is extremely hard to find used parts for it so in the end, he had to quote for new parts from Morgan Olson. The shop owner sent me and Allstate the quote for the repair. About a week after the quote was submitted, I get a call from an "Allstate Parts Technician" saying that my shops quotes were way off base and he found a new hood for "200 and change and 200 or so for other parts" (direct quote, everything was left in voicemail, no specifics whatsoever). I contacted the claims adjuster saying that there is no way he found even a used hood for my truck for "200 or so" and he must be using parts for a Ford E450 van and not a Morgan Olson body (basically the difference between a Sunday school van and a UPS truck). I asked for specifics and pricing and any documents related to this. My email went unanswered. I then received an email from her asking if I had any additional questions since payment has been issued. I said yes, I never asked for payment to be issued, I have no clue what the amount is or where the payment was issued since no work or parts were purchased, I need more information from her about all of this and the prices in the voicemail I received don't make any sense and it's the wrong type of vehicle they are using for the prices so nothing is making sense. She told me to that they are aware now of the misinformation about the truck parts, but to have the shop try for a "supplement payment now through their supplement hotline". I am absolutely livid. Am I wrong to be upset? Allstate dropped the ball on the type of truck THEY INSURE, the communication is garbage, I am extremely worried about where this payment is and how much it is, and honestly I want to start over with a new claims adjuster. I don't care how long this process takes, I just want them to do their job and give me some form of information. What are my next steps? Someone help, please! [link] [comments] |
Non-owned auto-insurance recommendations Posted: 07 Jan 2021 05:09 PM PST Hi all. I'm looking for a good quality, low-premium non-owned auto insurance. I live in San Francisco, and bike as a daily commute - but rent cars for trips to the burbs. No accidents/claims, have renters insurance already. Lowest rate I've found is CSAAs Nano for about $500/yr (1M/1M coverage) - but there must be a better rates, surely? And is there no-one targeting this market, given the decrease in people owning cars? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Insuring a car with undocumented dent Posted: 07 Jan 2021 04:18 PM PST Hello! I'm a young driver. 1.5 years ago, I got into a small accident in which I was at-fault. Nobody was injured, and the only damage was a dent around 1ft/0.3 meters wide behind one of the wheels of my car. My state's laws only require police reports to be filed when there is injury, damages exceed $2,500, or a car needs to be towed, so after talking with the driver of the other car, we decided not to report. The other car already had a dent where it impacted my vehicle, so damage to their car was minimal. I was on my parents insurance at the time, and it wasn't reported to that insurance, nor did that insurance ever receive a claim from the other driver. Fast forward to today, and I'm trying to get insurance in my own name for the car. I'm going through the process to get quotes, there's questions about whether I have been in an accident in the past 3 years that have given me pause. I'm definitely planning on acknowledging I was in an accident, and that I was at-fault if I have to, but it's still scary and I'm anxious I'm doing something wrong and get charged with insurance fraud. I'm fairly young and don't understand the process that well, so I'd appreciate if anybody with more knowledge could weigh in with these questions that I have:
I appreciate any and all advice you're able to give me. I've had an anxious stomachache for hours now. For locationbot: USA-OR [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jan 2021 04:03 PM PST So Mercury just declared my car a total loss. It's the first time it's happened to me. Can you guys tell me what I should expect next and what are the next steps going forward. Please and thank you. [link] [comments] |
BCBS owes my girlfriend's dad's practice money. Is there any way to claim it or force them to pay? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 03:49 PM PST Not sure if this is the right place or if there's a better subreddit for this. Basically, my girlfriend's dad owns his own medical practice in the state of Illinois (not sure if that's relevant) and Blue Cross Blue Shield owes thousands of dollars to the company out of insurance money. The company is facing financial trouble and, without this money, could face shutting down, not to mention personal changes such as not being able to pay for living expenses. Is there any way to either invoke a faster method of getting paid or bring this up legally to the courts? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jan 2021 03:40 PM PST I was in an accident a month ago. I totaled my car and hit another vehicle. No one was injured at the scene but one of the passengers will be filing an injury claim. I told the officer I "passed out" and he put down that I fell asleep. I went to the hospital and told them I passed out and they concluded I experienced a syncopal episode. I'm still getting checked by drs to see if it's something underlying. When I filed the claim, however, I agreed that I fell asleep when the adjuster read back the report--I really just wasn't in the right state of mind. It's been a month, but I want to update the claim with this information. What can I expect? Would this affect the claim? [link] [comments] |
Should I accept the settlement or not? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 02:29 PM PST So, i posted here on Christmas eve, about my car being wrecked the whole front bumper and the whole front portion. So the estimated repair cost is probably 7k dollar, that's what the adjuster told me. It was a pretty brand new car, bought in 2015 it has 45k miles. Doesn't hold any Total or salvaged title. So, the adjuster called me yesterday and told, the car has to be totalled because of the damages, and they re willing to give $9338 for the vehicle. But, i know for a fact, the interior is completely fine, the engine is fine too. Because i drove it home after the accident, i drove for 16 miles, I showed the car to a mechanic too, and he said its a pretty solid car still, if you fix the front end. So, what should i do now? I asked the adjuster if he will let me fix the car in one of my known shops he said, as its already totalled there isn't any option. So idk what to do rn, should i settle for this amount, or should I negotiate, and even if i negotiate, how much should i ask for?? I have never been in this situation ever. So all the helpful comments are needed thank you everyone so much. Yall are the best. P. S Accident happened in Maryland, insurance is Geico. Toyota 2015 Corolla Le. 45k miles. Bought it brand new. Thank you everyone. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jan 2021 02:26 PM PST Hello, my car was backed into the other day, I just got an estimate and the person who hit me is deciding to go the insurance route instead of out of pocket. Here is my concern for myself: 5ish years ago my car was hit in roughly the same place for the same reason. I filed the claim and got a check to fix the body damage but I did not get it fixed and used the money to get necessities I needed to survive a really difficult time financially. So since it is still the same insurance company, can I get in trouble for not getting the car fixed even though they gave me the money to do it? I'm assuming it's not something as serious as fraud or anything because my car really did get hit. I just know nothing and it's complicated enough being that I had prior damage in the same area I got hit again. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments] |
How do you all handle insane customers? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 02:09 PM PST Auto claims adjuster here. Dealing with an absolutely insane customer who sends multiple emails a day, is not in their right mind, thinks their demands are reasonable when they are so far from it, and feels that they're being shorted on anything - going so far as to accuse me of lying and the entire corporation I work for to be conspiring to defraud the customers. I'm vague for a reason since I want to leave it open ended. I'll never be unprofessional to this person - but how do y'all handle/cope with dealing the absolute worst customers that customer service has to offer? [link] [comments] |
