On Jan 2021 i was driving and a car ran a red light i wasn't able to fully stop and hit him . He lost control and hit a cross light pole . I got out the car to see the damage , I was leaking coolant. He said he didn't see me and didn't have insurance or license . I had all ready called the police to get a report , my girlfriend began feeling pain in the lower stomach, she's 4 months pregnant. I called the ambulance and the Police showed up as well , by then the other guy had called an Uber and left his car behind , (seemed to me to be DUI) the police made the report , I called my insurance (StateFarm) and gave them the details . Guys name, address and plates witch the police provided

I'm kind of at a loss , don't know how to proceed I have uninsured motorists property damage but not collision.

What can I spect to happen in this situation, what should I do ? I've waited and didn't get a call back.

I called today and insurance said they will find out if the driver had insurance

My girlfriend went to the hospital the next day , turns out she has a internal bruise from the seatbelt but baby is fine ( the ambulance advices us to take her to a our nearest hospital ) due to COVID . To this day she has pain and stays home resting .

I get a ride from my girlfriends dad to work , from Palmdale CA to DTLA (we work nearby )my car is not funcional , Insurance said I don't have car rental

Auto insurance wants to use my policy instead of person who hit us (both geico)

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:09 AM PST

We were in a car accident this weekend, rear ended by another vehicle. Police on scene cited her and put full blame on her. Our car is totaled. Both drivers use Geico. Geico wants us to use our coverage to "get things moving" rather than wait for the investigation. Even though the police found the other driver fully at fault, is this common? Is this advisable or should be opt to wait to use their coverage? Virginia if it helps

    Insurance coverage?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:18 PM PST

Hello! So all my life I've had this bump on my nose. When I say bump, I mean a very sharp point of bone that almost breaks skin. You can see the bone through my skin it's so sharp and big. I recently found out I can't wear contacts and have to wear glasses. Problem is, glasses no matter what frame put pressure on this point of my nose and causes headaches and the point to hurt and ache. I also have a deviated septum. Unsure if rhinoplasty will be partially covered by insurance? Thanks!

Medi-cal denied orthodontics, but approved the first quote in a different dental office

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:10 PM PST

Hello, my brother got a quote for braces from Western Dental about two months ago and medi-cal approved it. However, a lot of people told us to stay away from Western Dental, and so we did. We went to a different family owned denta office and got another quote, which Medi-cal denied. It showed in the letter that the reason they denied it was because it has been approved already, just in a different dental office. It also says there that they can only approve something once in 12 months, or once in five years.

What can I do? I'm in CA.

Question about accident with unlisted vehicle.

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:06 PM PST

My fiancé was driving an unlisted vehicle and was involved in an at fault collision. He is a listed driver on the policy, but not a "named insured." His truck has a transmission issue so he's been borrowing a friends car while we sort out the problem with the truck. We carry collision and property damage coverage on the truck. We assumed coverage would carry over to the car he is borrowing and didn't add it to our policy since the first thing it asks is to confirm we are the registered owners - which we aren't.

So of course once the accident happens we find out the owner of the borrowed car removed it from his own insurance policy in 2020 because he wasn't driving it. We filed a claim with our insurance but this process isn't going smoothly and our insurance has hinted there might not be coverage.

I fear we may be in a huge mess here. Can anyone offer any thoughts? I know we have to wait for the insurance to finish their review, but if they are going to deny coverage I'm hoping to get ahead of it and start getting the car fixed on our own rather than just sit on our hands.

For reference, we are in AZ and insured by USAA. Thanks!

Buying a house with Water damage, Home insurance Implications?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 01:34 PM PST

The house suffered massive water damage before the closing, around 80K insurance claim, It was professionally repaired, I wonder the implication for my home insurance.

    1. Does the insurance company need to come and sign off the repairs after it is done?
    2. Will this increase my insurance premium? even if the claim was made by previous owner?
    3. Do I need to inform the insurance company about the incident when I shop for insurance?

This is in NH. Thanks in advance.

    Unit Owner Posing as President

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 07:33 PM PST

I'm a property manager (Chicago) and learned that an individual unit owner (without official role/title in HOA) filed a claim on behalf of the Homeowners Association Policy and stated he was the president of the association. The insurance company processed the claim without verifying the individual unit owner had authorization or any official role with the HOA. Other unit owners were affected by the claim, but the unit owner posing as the President told insurance company that he should be the primary contact for any correspondence regarding this claim. Unfortunately, the other unit owners were left out of the process and claim was closed. Has anyone experienced something like this? The real board members of the HOA aren't getting much of a response from the insurance company. Is it time to get attorney involved? Anything I can tell them to ask for specifically?

Insurance policy renewal quote- increase of nearly £500

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:35 PM PST

I bought my 62 reg Polo (no changes/ modifications) February 2020 & started my policy with Tesco that day.

I gained 3 penalty points in 2017 in my previous car, which have now expired August 2020 & due to be removed August this year. They were still valid at the time of my policy starting (they were valid for 3 years). This did not result in a driving ban & was not drink/ drug driving related.

This policy is due for renewal in around 5 weeks, so I decided to requote with Tesco assuming the 1 year of no claims with this car, as well as no change of address/ work place and the penalty points expiring mid policy would give me a quote close to the one I had last year. Unfortunately, it has increased by £500 for the year, taking the quote to £1924. I can't figure out why.

I understand inflation & other factors come into play, but an increase of £500 seems excessive & in all honesty- I'm really panicking, because all other quotes I've sourced have been even more expensive at over £2100.

I've had my licence for 11 years & never been in an accident or caught for anything other than those 3 points.

I can't work my current job without my car because I work as a childrens community respiratory support worker (managing their ventilators) at multiple family homes & hospitals around the county. I don't mean to try & add weight by pulling the tired, poor carer card, but I'm trying to convey that this is my reality. I'm also in an IVA (Individual Voluntary Arrangement), and to buy the car I had to gain permission/ approval with a letter from my case manager & I didn't have a choice of where to go to buy my car to ensure affordability & the financial guarantee. I'm paying monthly payments for it for the next 4 years. This means I can't simply sell it and get another one. All my outgoings are agreed with the case manager based on affordability, and I obviously cannot afford to increase my insurance by £500.

So, I guess what I'm asking is if anyone is savvy with this knowledge & is there anything I can ask/ say to Tesco to get them to reduce the premium at all? I guess I'm just panicking right now & fatigued.

Thank you in advance, ANY advice is appreciated.

Transmerica Life Insurance Claims Process Guidance

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:46 PM PST

    Hi All!

Recently deceased grandmother has a Transmerica Life Insurance policy that my parents were likely suckered into purchasing for her years ago. They're up to date with payments and now we're looking to make a claim since she has passed.

Is someone able to provide any insight on how to do so? My parents are old school and have been doing paper statements. I d have the most recent annual statement but I assume there is no online account so that may be the first place to start.

We are located in MA incase that affects anything. The policy name is "Freedom Financial Builder"

I do also have a question on the payout, there is a specified amount and a total death benefit which is slightly higher listed on the policy. The death benefit option type is "B" so does this mean the payout will be the total death benefit listed on our statement?

The cause of death is COVID-19 so I am not sure if this affects anything regarding coverage terms.

    Any info is greatly appreciated!

Is it possible to appeal a car insurance claim that was paid out 3-4 months ago

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:40 PM PST

So a bit of a long and complex situation. There were two traffic incidents that occurred a week apart in the same car: accident 1(my dad was driving) and accident 2(I was driving). Accident 1 (dad driving)there was no damage whatsoever to our car but the other driver swerved to avoid my dad and hit a parked car, which totaled the hood of other drivers car. It was at an intersection where the traffic light was damaged and both cars didn't stop. Accident 2(I was driving)occurred a week later where the other car merged into my lane and hit my rear driver side door. So a few days later after accident 2 my dad got a call from the insurance company who was questioning him about accident 1. English isn't his first language so they had a interpreter and I guess something got lost in translation and he thought they were talking about accident 2. He acknowledged that there was a collision where the other car merged into the lane and hit our car on the rear driver side. Apparently the other driver involved in accident 1 had told the insurance that my dad was trying to pass them on their left while they were waiting on a red light and rear ended them into a parked car. We actually called the police for accident 1 too and they saw that our car was not damaged so they didn't file a police report between my dad and the other driver. Accident 2 was resolved by our insurance with the other driver 100% at fault. However our insurance had to pay the other driver a few thousand dollars for accident 1 cause apparently the damages to their car more closely aligned with their version of what happened. This was 3-4 months ago and we didn't find out that our insurance had to pay them until a few weeks ago. I called the adjuster and explained to him what the confusion was and he said there was nothing he can do. I tried making my case on behalf of my dad asking how a rear end on the other driver's car can cause so much damage to their front when there was NO DAMAGE to our car. He emailed me pictures of the other drivers car and he tried explaining how there was a little scuff mark on their left rear side where apparently my dad hit them. That along with the fact that my dads story didn't match because he was explaining what happened in accident 2 instead of accident 1, they sided with the other driver and said my dad was at fault. Yes I know this is a mess of a situation but is there anything We can do at this point?

EDIT: this happened in NY. I know there's nothing really to be done about the money paid out but is there anything that can be done about having the accident on record and affecting premiums?

Auto Accident & Deductible - Appraiser Quoted Unneeded Repair

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:21 AM PST

I submitted a claim for an auto accident ($5000 claim) and the appraiser quoted a $600 repair for paint damage. I have a $1000 deductible due directly to the repair shop. The repair shop said it was just a scuff that wiped right off and no paint repair was needed. So my deductible due to them was only $400, since the insurance company already sent them a check for $4000. Meanwhile, the insurance company determined I was not at fault and reimbursed my full $1000 deductible. Do I owe the insurance company the remaining $600 of the deductible?

Can you suggest my average rate for insurance?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:25 PM PST

I'll try and give as much information as possible because i need a rough estimate. I am 19 years old and plan on putting a down payment on a car. Specifically a 2013 Honda accord EXL or Sport. I usually see them going for around $12,000-$14,000. I will be putting a $3,500 down payment on the car. I live in the state of Georgia and i have never been in any accidents or been pulled over by the police.

I will have to get full coverage since i am still paying off the car. So i am wondering how much would that cost? My mom said it should be around $400 while my friend says he pays around $700. He has a 2014 Honda Accord Sport.

Will getting a older car lower the cost of my car insurance?

New to Insurance Stuff and Unemployed-How Do I Get Covered?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:17 AM PST

    Hi everyone.

I'm uninsured due to being over 26 and unemployed (never have I had a 9-5 job, only a few online gigs and waitressing for a few months almost 10 years ago) due to mental and physical health reasons. I need some kind of coverage ASAP because of those reasons. I don't want to mess with disability right now because I know it's a long process and most likely I won't get it-at least that's what I'm hearing from most people.

I know there's something called medicaid. Is that what I need to sign up for? I am completely new to insurance and have no idea where to start. Can anyone tell me how to get on it? I'm in NC in the US.

Any and all advice/pointers welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Should my car insurance liability limits be inline with my assets or higher?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:10 AM PST

I've been reading about car insurance, and I'm concerned that I don't have enough liability coverage. Right now I have 25/50/50. I've always been under the impression that I don't need more liability coverage than I have assets, but I think I may be wrong on that. I'm 29 and make 60k a year. My debts are 40k in student loans and 20k car loan. My retirement is an IRA and a pension which both don't have much in them yet since I haven't had them for long. Do my assets even matter when choosing car insurance liability? If someone sues me what happens if they sue me for more than I'm worth? Would I just file for bankruptcy?

    Edit: I live in Louisiana.

Should i claim money from insurance?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:31 PM PST

I got into an accident last month, the car was totaled in that accident. And a bad neck pain, and a bad back pain started after that incident, I thought the pain was going to go away eventually but it never did, plus as per of the covid situation, I dont have insurance either right now, because of my dad's job. He used to get insurance from his workplace. So we are all cut of from insurance right now. So i never went to see a doctor either because it is expensive. And the pain is increasing, day by day.

So should i tell my insurance company about this?? Or exactly what is the step i should do right now.

Thank you everyone for your helpful advice.

My insurance is, Geico i am from Maryland Montgomery County. I pay full insurance also.

Auto Insurance: Someone backed into my bumper, left minor damage, I have evidence who did it but insurance won't make them pay the claim.

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:40 AM PST

I have evidence on who drove the vehicle, pictures of the vehicle and the license plate, police report, etc. but my insurance (Geico) will not say that the other driver is at fault when they backed into my front bumper.

I have some small damage to my bumper and grill (dents) but the estimate to repair is about $700.

Is this something I should live with, pay out of pocket, or go ahead and use my insurance?

The car was parked and I was not in it so I should not be at fault here, but does this raise my premiums? And if I switch auto insurance does that show up in my history?

    EDIT: I'm in Marlyand.

    Using Parents Insurance for Iud

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:22 PM PST

I am a young adult under my parents insurance. They are devout Christians who are very against sex outside of marriage and birth control use(even when married). I'd really like to get on birth control and I know there are cheaper pill options online without insurance but I'm too afraid to get on hormones so I've been considering the copper iud. However, it's super expensive without insurance and I even called planned parenthood and was told there were no lower cost options for the Iud and that without insurance the copper iud would be 1500$. I've figured out how to make an account on my insurance website and sent in a form to ask for my information to be kept confidential and for it not to be sent to my parents. I also looked at my account and it says that contraceptive devices are covered with a copay of in office and in network and that the benefit applies to my out of pocket maximum. For outpatient services in network it is 20% co insurance and deductible applies and the benefit applies to my out of pocket maximum. So basically what does this mean? Would the iud also be covered as it's a prescription and not a service? Also, if I do end up getting my information only sent to me, does that mean I have to pay any costs associated with the services that aren't covered(I'd rather my parents not see them or have to pay them) and could any costs not covered just be billed to me by the doctors office? My account says my individual deductible remaining is $500 in network and 1000$ out of network with out of pocket costs of 2500$ in network and $5000 out of network. I don't really know what that means even though I've tried reading up on it. It sounds like the deductible wouldn't cover the whole iud cost? I have read that under the ACA the IUD should be covered even if the deductible is not payed although I've heard it depends. I've contacted the insurance company to make sure the copper iud is covered. And if I did not get the privacy I wanted, my parents wouldn't know exactly what I got? I looked at some of my past services on my account and it only shows location and basic services provided without specifics. However it looks like there were some member charges they had to pay and I'd rather they not end up with a huge iud bill if it's not all covered and I'd be willing to pay some but I can't do $1500 so I want insurance to cover it if possible. So, basically, would it be covered for me? How do I find out and what do all these terms mean?

Soon to be receiving insurance through my employer, can I let my current insurance lapse?

    I'm located in Indiana, USA

EDIT- Looks like I'd better keep paying until I have my employer's coverage, and then explicitly end my Marketplace coverage. Thanks guys

Does rental insurance cover you if you live on an RV Trailer on the property, not the house?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 01:42 PM PST

    Hey Guys,

I am renting an RV Trailer on a property with water, electric, and sewer hookup and the owner does not have the trailer registered as a separate address with the City. However, the local cable, phone, and internet utilities seem to have it registered because when I go to their website and enter the address of the property, they always ask if it is the house or the trailer that I want to connect service to.

Anywho, I got renters insurance and used the address of the property but the questions they ask seem to be related to the house on the property (Year built, heating/air, fire, etc.) and there is no option to state that it is actually a trailer I am renting. I know I will probably have to ask the insurance company this but wondering if anyone knows if the renters insurance will also cover the trailer?

I did check on line for RV trailer renters insurance but the options I have found seem to be similar to auto insurance or something that the owner of the trailer would have to get and not necessarily renters.

    Thank you for the help

Edit: I am located in Sacramento CA

What does it take to create an insurance company?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:53 PM PST

(California) Let's say my car insurance is too high and I'd much rather try my hand at starting an insurance company myself which I can pay $1/month for my super-expensive car, and just file for bankruptcy in case I get into a costly accident.

What kind of legal hurdles would I need to clear to start an insurance company?

Got into my first car accident I think I was at fault [allstate]

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:42 PM PST

I was driving home from college and was taking the Highway. The exit I needed was on the right side and was coming up so at this point I made the decision in my mind to change lanes from the right. Somehow I lost completely focus and was unable to think for a couple seconds and turns out I drifted left and I only realized what happened when I felt the force of a Semi knock my car rightwards (I got hit on the left side) and I began to swerve. Iuckily I was able to control the steering and pulled over the left side of the highway on the grass.

I drive a Mazda cx-30 and the driver side of it is wrecked. The driver front door won't even open. The semi is unscathed. My insurance rates will provoke skyrocket because I'm 18 and male. Should we (my family) repair this ourselves or use insurance. I have allstate. Also the cop gave me a ticket after reviewing the story and seeing everything. I exchanged insurance information with the semi driver.

Location: Accident happened just off highway I-35 exit 65 Fort Worth, Texas

    Insurance lapse after changing state

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:18 PM PST

Moved from NY to CA July 2020. At the time, switched from NY to CA based insurance company while vehicle and license was still registered to NY, not realizing that this would cause a lapse in insurance within the state of NY due to the new insurance company not holding NY practice privileges. I had not registered my vehicle and updated license to CA due to having misplaced my car title, and had let this lapse until now. And thus my license has been suspended since September. I was not aware until yesterday due to delays in the mail being redirected from old NY to current CA address.

    TL;DR:

-suspended NY license due to lapse in insurance per NY state policy of NY insurance for NY vehicles

-no current registration of vehicle or license to CA secondary to below:

    -misplaced car title

Any advice regarding ways to rectify the situation as to enable switch from NY to CA registration and licensing will be much appreciated. I have been calling both CA and NY DMV this morning with little success. The insurance division of NY DMV is not picking up calls due to high volume.
