Fellow adjusters, is it just me or is there a lot more DWI (mostly unfounded) accusations lately? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:21 AM PST Man I've been getting so many claims lately where my claimant says "yeah the tow truck driver saw your insured pouring out a beer before the police arrived" or "yeah your guy had alcohol breath and begged me not to call the cops". I've been getting it a lot more lately this month than in my previous 3 years of experience. I'll wait a few days get the police report and no tickets were issued and no mention of alcohol in accident summary. Baffling. I find it hard to believe that police responding to the scene wouldn't arrest my customers for DWI if that was the case. Anyone having similar experiences? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:51 AM PST We are four people living in same house since 4 years. Two cars are on my and my wife's name. Other two cars are on my sister and brother-in-law's name. We all are on the same auto insurance since 4 years with Allstate. Few days ago, a car owned by my sister had an accident. Now the local agent is saying that Allstate is going to remove the cars which are on my sister and brother-in-law's name from my auto policy as you are the primary card holder and the New Jersey state law doesn't allow if anyone else's cars on your policy unless you are husband and wife. She said I will receive the letter within few days. But today I received an email that they are "Voluntary" making changes to my policy as per my request and will remove the cars owned by my sister and brother-in-law's after few days. I just want find out if it's really true or required by New Jersey law or they are just trying to do something else? Also, if it's true how come they didn't do anything since last 4 years? Also, they have already charged me the money for until March 2021, can they deny accident claim on this basis which had happen few days ago? [link] [comments] |
A Geico quote I am getting is 60/m less than Amica in California. Too good to be true? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:39 PM PST How much of the 'new customer' discount impacts the first 6 month rate? I compared Geico (90 a month) to my current insurer Amica (157 a month) for 300/300 with comp&coll in California (I did make sure I tried to match coverage for coverage so its apples to apples). The only diff when I matched out the two policies is Amica is 300K for PD liability where Geico is 100K. The Geico quote seems too good to be true. Anything I am missing? (No accidents or tickets or any issues for over 15 years) [link] [comments] |
Should I remove dad as included driver? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 06:37 PM PST My dad (who no longer lives with me) was added to my insurance when I got my first car 10+ years ago and I'm wondering if I should have him removed. I asked a local Allstate agent and he told me it is better to leave him on but didn't really tell me why. Would I get a better rate w/o him or not really? He hasn't driven my car in over 8 years if that matters. Live in CA with Allstate. [link] [comments] |
Backed into me at parking lot, who is at fault? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 05:24 PM PST I recently had this collision where I was parked next to another car. I backed out of my spot perpendicular to the other car and stopped to change gears to drive before moving. Before I could start moving the other car backed into me denting my doors. I submitted a claim but the at fault still hasn't been determined as the other guy won't submit his claim. I read this online: If automobile "A" is leaving a parking space, and doesn't yield to automobile "B" who is on a feeder lane or thoroughfare. A-100% B-0% According to that rule the other person is responsible but is there something I am missing that might make me at fault as well? EDIT: My location is Ontario, Canada [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2020 01:14 PM PST Alot of news outlets have bandied this $1-2 billion insurance costs around, and i wanted to know how much of it is sensationalism and how much is realistic, and if anyone knows hiw triple-I came to this figure. [link] [comments] |
Car and Renters Through Different Companies? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 12:54 PM PST So I currently am working from home and living with my parents. My employer, once COVID calms down (who knows when), has said they'll want the employees in the office. This means that I will need to buy a car and then subsequently move. All of this will be within the same state (Missouri). What are the repercussions of me getting full coverage auto when I buy my car (since I will have to buy it in the city where my parents live) and then using a different insurance company to just buy stand-alone renters insurance from a different insurer? I will be moving basically from a small city to a bigger city, and I am 100% sure they will increase my auto premium if it's bundled with the renters once I move. I know I won't get the bundle discount, but I don't know if there are other things I should be on the lookout for. TIA! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2020 04:18 PM PST I bought a used Energica SS9, and it was essentially ran over while parked the day after I took delivery. Anyways, its VIN comes back to an Energica Ego due to it having the Ego ECU, so it is titled as an Ego and has the enhanced performance of a Ego, but it's an SS9 visually and ergonomically. Ego's are more expensive than SS9's by a few thousand dollars on the used market, so I'd really like to get the payout based on Ego prices rather than SS9 prices. Will it cause a fuss with insurance when they see what looks like an SS9 claiming to be an Ego, or will they automatically pay out based on the VIN and comparable sale prices of that model, and disregard everything else? Bonus question: this happened in the USA. These bikes are substantially more expensive in Europe, and there are only two for sale in the entire USA(hard to get good comparables with only two listings.) Can I push for a higher payout using European prices? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2020 03:47 PM PST Sorry if this isn't the best place to ask this. I just need a opinion on this situation from either an experienced adjuster or maybe even an attorney at this point. I really would prefer not to have to use an attorney. I'm not familiar at all with this stuff, but curious how this should play out from someone who knows better. Coming up on almost a year now. Auto accident. I was rear ended at high speed 50+ by a commercial truck on the highway. I was stopped and I didn't even hear him brake. Their insurance accepted full liability without question. My car was totaled and towed away. Police came but no EMT or ER. I went to my doctor immediately next day and had about $2000 in head and bone scans done. All came back negative. I had some cuts and bleeding that all since healed, no stitches. Minor scars. Starting immediately the day of the accident and to this day I've had bad tinnitus, vertigo. Migraines shortly after. Been seeing specialists for those. It started out as my doctor saying it should be gone in 48 hours back then but it's still happening to this day. Tinnitus is very very bad. I've tried so many ways to mask it. My ENT is suggesting I try some high dollar ear pieces to cancel it out. He said trauma can cause tinnitus but there isn't much understanding exactly why or treatment options. So there hasn't been much in the way of bills for tinnitus. The hearing devices he's talking about are around $3000 each. Vertigo and migraines are just treated with meds and PT. The at fault company has a well known insurance company. They seem to have a lot of liability coverage. Their adjuster uses words like subjective, soft tissue injuries that they value at $1000 pain suffering settlement plus bills. They been seemingly nice to me but $1000 seems super low to me. It's changed my life thus far. I guess my question is, does this seem reasonable for something that could be permanent? I'd not what would be? Should I just keep waiting another year to see if I recover? Location: Delaware [link] [comments] |
Can Safety Sensing Features Help Determine Fault? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 10:58 AM PST I was in an accident a few weeks ago. I was turning right at an intersection and had a green light. Other vehicle, an SUV with oversized aftermarket wheels/tires not only failed to yield when turning left but veered into the far right lane of the road we were both rurning on, which of course is the lane I was turning into. It's been a slow process in terms of insurance companies communicating with one another. He declined to give a statement to my insurance company, so I declined to give one to his. According to what the adjuster from his company told mine, his story seemed to change, and he is now claiming that the accident happened a couple hundred feet further down the road we were both turning on. I could go into further details if anyone likes, but simply put, I don't think my car would even allow me to do what he is claiming. I have an almost new Honda with all the safety sensing features including front collision mitigation, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, etc.. What his version is according to what the adjuster from my insurance company told me his insurance company told them would involve me losing control on a straight section of road, veering into a curb, then overcompensating in the direction of his car in which the front drivers side quadrant of my vehicle hits the front passenger side oversize tire if his SUV, at what he claims was a 45 degree angle (but also said he didn't see me coming???). I'm pretty good about staying in the lines but I remember last year when I first got my car and was still getting used to it, I was going to change lanes to my right and a car had accelerated into my blind spot, but I didn't hit him because the lane departure warning alert clicked in along with lane keep assist stopping me from moving in that direction and immediately pulling me into the center of the lane I was in. So my question is, do these safety features ever get taken into consideration in disputes in terms of determining who is at fault?? There are several other reasons I think the other drivers story won't hold up to evidence, and my insurance company told me as soon as the details of his story changed they don't consider me at fault and began the subrogation process, but I'm understandably concerned I'll get screwed out of my deductible, and wantbto make sure any and every piece of evidence is presented. Thanks. Edit: this took place in the US in Virginia. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Dec 2020 01:53 PM PST So I landed a new job in Oregon and I start next week. I'm currently in California and will be moving in a few months. Can I use their insurance to go see a doctor in California? Can I use that insurance for meds? Or is none of that possible as a Cali resident? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2020 09:53 AM PST Hello. 1 week ago another driver turned out in front of my vehicle and smashed in my front end. Completely undrivable now. I'm attempting to get a rental, have an adjustor see if my car is worth fixing (2015 Nissan Sentra, great shape, 100K miles though, air bag deployed, radiator, bumper, head lights, fenders, hood and possibly more destroyed) or if it's a loss, and get a rental until they decide. I've never been into an accident before so I'm unsure of the specifics. His insurance company, Progressive, told me even with the police report putting him at fault, they can't get me a rental or progress at all until they talk to their insured driver. Not to be rude, but the guy was a bit odd and freaked out after the accident. While I called 911, he yelled about how his life is ruined and said that repeatedly to the cops. Once they got his information, the driver just walked down the street and left. It's been 7 days and his insurance said that he hasn't let them know about the accident or answered their calls, texts or emails. I voiced my concern that their driver may ignore them or never contact them back. They said since he's not answering, it could be at least 2 weeks before they progress at all. I've told my insurance, Geico, about this and they said I could pay my $500 deductible and go through them. But I don't want my insurance cost to increase for an accident that was someone else's fault. I also don't have rental coverage (live and learn) through my insurance so I'd have to pay 100% out of pocket for it. Could anyone give me any insight? Just trying to learn some generalities and what to look out for during this process. I have full coverage, he has liability. Both drivers are in Ohio where the accident happened. Thanks for any insight or advice in advance. [link] [comments] |
New construction flooded prior to closing. What are my responsibilities? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:49 AM PST My wife and I are under contract for a beautifully crafted new home. Several days prior to closing a plumbing fixture failed, and subsequently flooded a portion of the home. Proper damage remediation procedures have been followed, and the damage is repairable. The damage will be covered by either the builder's or sub contractor's insurance. All repairs will be complete prior to the new closing date. Do I need to notify the insurance company that is underwriting the homeowners policy of the water damage? Will this impact the insurability of the home? Premium? Will any warranties on the repair work transfer to us when we become owners of the property. Edit: This is in Florida. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2020 11:22 AM PST hey all, I had an OWI in 2019 and am looking at insurance. From some research I can not determine if I am required to get an SR-22 because no one ever told me so, court or otherwise. Is it a given that I am required to have an SR-22 post-conviction in MI? Next question would be the best way of going about achieving that. Would adding a car+myself to a parents insurance be cost effective? Thanks ! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2020 11:21 AM PST I was parked on the street in front of my building in Brooklyn and upon taking the car to work today, my GF noticed that the front bumper was partially melted, exposing the fiberglass underneath the paint and the license plate frame had melted almost completely off. We realized that this had to have happened from external heat because it's all surface level damage and nothing deeper. I have photos of the damage to my car and photos of the car in front of me, showing that their exhaust is pointed directly at where the melting occurred on my car. I also potentially will have video evidence from my building's cameras showing the two parked next to each other. Is this enough to file a claim with the other driver's insurance? I'm reluctant to file a police report just yet because I'd rather not report this to my insurance if I'm gonna have to just pay out of pocket or my $1000 deductible. [link] [comments] |
How do I get orthodontic insurance? - Help Posted: 31 Dec 2020 10:36 AM PST Location: Seattle, WA The insurance company that we are working with doesn't offer orthodontic insurance and many people that we have reached out to don't have orthodontic insurance themselves. Is orthodontic insurance something that you can buy independently from dental or would it be a package? If so, does it have a different name which is why we are having challenges finding it? Thanks for all the help in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2020 10:03 AM PST Car #1 is a 2108 Toyota Camry with 25k miles. Car #2 is a 2014 Honda CRV w/ just over 100k miles. Bluebook value has the Camry worth double the CRV. Yet my insurance policy has a $322 premium for the Camry, and a $375 premium for the CRV. All the coverage is the same, drivers are the same, deductibles the same, discounts given are w/in $20 of one another. Called the agent to better understand what's going on and if there was a mistake, he said they don't set the rates so he couldn't provide any insight. Is there anyone with a understanding of how rates are set that could help clarify? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Car insurance & accident - please help Posted: 31 Dec 2020 08:23 AM PST I got into a car accident last night, no injuries and im at-fault. There's damage to his back bumper and damage to my front bumper. We called the police and i was given a "unable to control speed" ticket & the other driver was given a ticket for not carrying insurance, and possibly for not having his drivers license but im not sure on the latter. I am not sure whether or not he even has car insurance. Idk his name or anything about him other than the license plate on his car. I am 24F and am an added driver under my parents insurance. I have never been in an at-fault accident before. Im not sure what to expect. Is the insurance rate for my car likely to increase? We have Allstate. Let's say the other car doesn't have car insurance, will i still have to pay for his car? My parents are pissed and don't want to tell me how anything works. All my friends aren't giving me genuine answers about how this stuff works either. I'm at a loss & appreciate any insight anybody can give me. Money is no issue, i have a job and am willing to pay for my mistake. I just have no idea what to do or what to expect. I tried asking the cops last night and they just told me to call the insurance company. Idk, thank you for reading all this. Location: TX TLDR: At-fault car accident, no injuries, rear-end collision. The "unable to control speed" ticket is only $180 so i dont mind paying it. I'm more concerned about the insurance rate and damage $$ ill pay for the other person's car [link] [comments] |
