    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 01:56 AM PST

My brother was driving his car and coming up to traffic lights when with about 80m before the car in front jammed on it brakes. She was in a rental first time in an automatic and was going for the clutch. She realised this and told the insurance company that it was her fault and that she was liable. Agreements are made and motions are set garage is picked but waiting for final approval.

Fast forward to over a month after the accident and he gets a call saying that the claim will not be approved because he should have been able to stop in time.

Is there any way to fight this because going through his insurance will take him off the road due to the cost increase.

    I'm in ireland.

Skate board accident resulting in concussion

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 02:03 AM PST

Hey guys! I'm going to the doctor for an annual check up tomorrow and something has been bothering me.

Story of injury, I was the only party involved In about April of 2020, I went skating. And yes, what I did was incredibly stupid, I am well aware of that. My neighborhood is very flat and I have a small energetic dog that I let pull while I ride. I have always gone alone and have been doing this for years without a single incident, not even a scraped knee. But this time my dad, who my dog is obsessed with showed up and she went bonkers, resulting in her jumping in front of my board which sent me flying. I hit my head and was severely concussed, I was in and out of consciousness for at least half an hour. I was a minor at the time and my parents refused to take me to the hospital due to Covid. I had a friend who's father is a neurologist who agreed that yes, I likely had a concussion. I was not wearing a helmet.

(Tldr for above: I wiped out on my skateboard and got concussed. Due to being a minor, parents would not allow me to seek medical attention)

I never received treatment. All of my life I would never get headaches, but after my concussion I began getting headaches where I hit my head. My depression and anxiety, which was also under control thanks to treatment and medication also returned. I am now a legal adult but live under my parents. My parents told me to lie about the accident (say I tripped, instead of skating), so if I need testing it will be covered by insurance. I'm worried about lying for a number of reasons. My question is this, if I say I was skating without a helmet, is it likely health insurance will not cover testing?

TLDR: Op as a minor didn't wear a helmet while skating, got concussed. Wasn't allowed to seek treatment after accident. If they say they got in an accident skating without a helmet, will insurance not cover further testing such as a CT?

Husband trying to file claim (car was keyed) and insurance agent is asking to cross examine me (wife)?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:48 PM PST

My husband's car was keyed in the apartment parking lot recently and he tried to file a claim with the insurance. After bringing the car into the body shop for inspection, an insurance agent called him and told him that the next step is for them to contact me for a statement and file a police report. The agent said something along the lines of "cross examining" me... I still haven't received the call from the insurance company but I really don't know what to expect.

Is this common procedure? Is the insurance company trying to put me as a suspect in the police report? I know statistically spouse/partners are often offender of car vandalism cases, but it feels like the insurance is trying to play cop here... I also don't want to be involved in some police report where they put me under the spot light as I'm going through some immigration procedures.

P.s. we are happily married and my husband knows I won't do such thing

What’s it like working as a Casualty (BI) Claims Representative?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 12:01 PM PST

I am currently an advisor at a service office for a major company in Canada that sells insurance but I'm not really in love with sales and relying on a low base salary and commission.. I recently interviewed for a big company for a entry level casualty role as a claims rep and had a pretty solid interview so I think I have an okay chance at actually obtaining this job.

For those who have worked as an agent and later transitioned to a claims role what do you like more and what do you like less?

I hear a lot of negativity about claims but as an individual workload and managing my time isn't an issue so I'm not overly stressing about that for now.

Also, please keep me in your hopes and prayers for this job... at the end of the day I think it is something I will do very well in.

Thank you all for your input !! :)

Insurance rate went up over $100 for changing my occupation

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 09:23 PM PST

I've been working full time for the past 3 years but started graduate school this past fall to pursue my PhD. The school provided new students with financial advice and one tip they told us was to let your bank and insurance company know you're a student so that you can take advantage of student discounts. I told Geico (auto policy) about my switch to a full-time student back in October but never heard back from them. Fast forward to today, I log in to pay my bill and notice my 6-month premium increased over $100. I haven't been in any accidents and have not received any tickets, so I waited 30 minutes on the phone to have an agent tell me that my premium went up BECAUSE I WAS HONEST ABOUT MY OCCUPATION TO SAVE MONEY. Is this normal? Should I switch insurance providers?

Any advice is welcome, thank you.

Just hit a couch on the highway

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:15 PM PST

Less than an hour ago, a couch flew off the back of a small pick up truck and I barely hit it on my front right side of my car. There's only cosmetic damages from what I can see and I can drive the car. The truck drove off but I was able to get a police case number for this and the officer said it won't be considered an accident.

I just got this car in May 2020 and it is a lease. Will my insurance/premiums be raised?

This occurred in CT but I live in MA. United States

Not sure what to do since I live in two states.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:59 PM PST

I go back and forth from two states. One is where I work and have an apartment. The other is my family home. I work remotely right now, and I am in both states 50/50. I am using a car that is under my dad's name. I only plan on staying in the state where i'm working for 2 years max. Should I register the car under my name and change insurances? Idk what to do since im at both places often. My dad currently pays for the insurance.

Health Insurance doesn’t cover my medication anymore

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 07:25 AM PST

I'm on my parents health insurance until August (turning 26).

I've been diagnosed with ADHD since I was around age 7. I've been inconsistent with my medication ever since. Recently wanted to try it out again. Got a new doctor (my last was my pediatrician) and they ordered a controlled drug test before refilling my prescription.

Got a bill from the lab company for the drug test- apparently my insurance denied the claim due to the diagnosis code. I've been working with the doctors office to get this covered since October.

I just got around to filling my prescription (ADHD, remember?) and found out yesterday that the plan changed and the new plan only covers medication for kids aged 4-18 and does not cover adults with ADHD.

Do I have any options here or am I just SOL until I turn 26? The insurance through my employer has enrollment in September so that's not an option.

    Edit: I'm in Virginia

    Help a girl out

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 09:20 AM PST

Hello, I am an 18 year old female living in Oklahoma. My soonercare was just shut off with the year change and I have medical needs and no way to pay for them without insurance. I take several medications, while not needed to keep me alive, are needed to keep me functioning in society. One of which is a schedule 2 drug, concerta, that I have taken since I was very very young. All together, these drugs would cost me probably about a thousand dollars a month alone and I have dental issues and vision needs as well. I go to college and have it completely paid for by academic scholarships that require a high GPA to keep. The loss of these drugs would more than likely cause me to lose these grants and force me to drop out. I am not employed as I am a full-time student and my only parent is a janitor.

What in the world should I do??

I just bought a car and am looking at a new car insurance; Do I go with the recommended medical payments option or raise it?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:55 PM PST

So I've been on my parents car insurance and I just bought my own car and am getting my own insurance.

The policy I'm leaning towards through Progressive has recommended $1,000 per person for the Medical Payments section. My mom said this seems low but we're unsure of the "norm" for this option. I can raise it to $2k, $5k, or $10k per person and then pay extra for whichever option.

Should I leave it as what they have recommended or raise it? Also if I choose one option now, can I change it later?

What insurance documents should I keep? Can I toss my old insurance documents?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:52 PM PST

    Hey there,

I have some old home insurance policies at home for the prior years. Tired of looking at stacks of paper that these insurance companies send. Can I toss these as the policy renews?

Can I also toss any old medical insurance paper?

Need shopping advice for NYC home insurance

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 05:26 PM PST

Let me preface by stating that I'm a first time homeowner. Swyfft and Lemonade seem solid for Brooklyn, NYC. Does anyone have any gripes with these two companies? Their rates seem better than the traditional/big companies. Is there something should I be looking out for? Appreciate any advice.

AUTO INSURANCE - Release of All Claims *QUESTION*

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:37 PM PST

I was rear ended the beginning of December and the driver cooperated and admitted fault. I was able to have all repairs and my deductible covered. Due to the fact that I was rear ended while completely stationary, I did have traits of whiplash (soreness in the neck and back, ears ringing a little bit) and reported this to both my insurance and in my statement to the at-fault driver's insurance. Once all filing was completed, the at-fault driver's insurance sent me a letter which is asking for a release of all claims, as well as a check in my name to cover any potential medical bills for bodily harm (heat pads, other soreness remedies, etc).

To date, I am no longer really feeling these symptoms and my car has been fully fixed and has been operating as well as before the accident (repairs were mostly cosmetic. Is there any downside to me cashing this check or signing this release? Are the both tied to one another? Is cashing the check really putting me in a position of risk if all the claims truly have been settled? Do I report taxes on the check if I do cash it?

Just want to make sure I am not overlooking anything as this has been my first experience with an auto insurance claim process and I don't want to have any regrets from it :)

**EDIT: Sorry, I should mention this is all taking place in the state of California, Bay Area to be specific

Insurance says in there report that I was in an accident and was at fault when I never was

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:30 PM PST

So got a letter from my bank that I didn't have coverage on my car today. This was news to me and I went to check my bank and they never took the money in December. I log in to find the my coverage lapsed in December. Don't know why and they didn't really give me a reason when I called. But as I'm going thru the process to get my policy back, the report they run said I was in an accident in September and was at fault, but that never happened. The lady told me to call lexisnexus and dispute it. I called and all I got was a computer and a report coming in a week. Don't know how to actually go about trying to fix this any help would be great

Out of pocket after claim filed

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:47 PM PST

If I hit a parked car and caused a small amount of damage, estimated 1200, can I pay out of pocket if the other party started a claim through my insurance. She Was not home when I hit her car so I was waiting to hear back from her, to ask about paying out of pocket, but I heard back from her today once she started the claim

    Sewer backup insurance

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:24 PM PST

I'm debating if I should add sewer backup insurance to my home insurance policy. It's $117/month with it and $92/month without. So about $300 a year difference. The protection covers up to 20k. Information about my property: - location is Canada Quebec - no sump pump in basement - 600 feet elevation from sea level - not on a flood plane or near any bodies of water - it has its own septic system and well. - bungalow house on a slope. So the front of the house is ground level and the basement is ground level at the back of the house (bottom of slope) so about half of the basement is underground and the other half is ground level. Not sure if this visual is relevant.

    Any opinions are welcomed!

What type of payment do medical/dental insurance pay to doctors?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 03:55 PM PST

Because of covid I took a job with good pay and benefits, but horrible hours and mind numbing work. I got insurance through the job. I wanted to quit to find something else but someone told me that I would pay a fine to my insurance for not completing the business year (April 1). I decided to stick around and use the insurance benefits as much now as I can in the mean time. So for example, I got invisiline braces for one thing because why not. However someone told me insurance pays monthly, and if I am no longer at the job I would need to pay the remaining balance on my own. Is there any truth to these claims?

A deer collided with my truck

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 03:31 PM PST

I'm from Ontario Canada and I live in deer country

About a week ago, I had an incident with a deer, saw it running over the snow bank and as I tried to stop I kept sliding because of the slush in the road, I managed to swerve out of the way of the deer but it still ran into the side of my truck

The deer is fine btw, it got right back up and took off into the woods again...jerk

But I was wondering, do I need to call my insurance about this?

Minor Car Accident with minor damages and no injuries

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 09:07 AM PST

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right thread to post this on, but I recently got in a minor car accident and have some questions.

First, I would like to preface this by saying I have never been in a car accident before and have no experience filing a claim. I live in Florida, I am not sure if this changes anything. This past Saturday I was driving in some moderate traffic when the car in front of me slammed on their brakes at the exact time I hit the gas pedal (still no idea why), and I didn't have time to come to a full stop and hit the back of their car. I was not on my phone or distracted in any way, I simply just pressed the gas at the wrong time and the car in front of me slammed on their brakes at the exact same time.

There were no damages to my car besides some minor paint chipping. The car I hit was a 2020 Kia Soul and had a cracked bumper and some paint chipping as well. My biggest question is how much money should I expect this to cost me, both from deductibles and from insurance costs being raised?

I realize that that is such a broad question and there are many variables that go into this type of situation, but wanted to gage how much of a hit I am about to take. I also am trying to make ends meet after a bunch of medical bills from this past year and there is a chance I won't be able to pay off all the expenses, so I am not sure if their is a payment plan or program to pay it all back. Thanks for any help or advice!

I ran into my friends car and broke my bumper

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 03:02 PM PST

thankfully his car is fine other than a small dent and a scratch and he doesn't care about it so he's not going to report it to his insurance or anything but what about me do I just say that someone backed into me or just straight up tell them that I rear ended my friends car and he doesn't want to file a claim?

Car + Car Insurance in one state... Driver's License in another?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 08:39 AM PST

I'm originally from California and hold a California driver's license, and own a car registered in California. That mostly-unused car still sits in California.

However, I currently live in New York and my old driver's license is about to expire... so I am thinking of getting a New York driver's license.

Would that cause problems with my car insurance? Again, the car itself is still sitting in California. But would there be a problem having an owner that is holding an out-of-state driver's license?

If there are also legal implications I should be aware of regarding state car registration too... let me know if there's a better sub to post this question to. Thanks in advance!
