CEO's or high ranking managers, can you recommend me a good business book? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:17 AM PST I'm running my own small business, but I want to expand my knowledge about business even further. I worked in an environment with the COO of a big company, and even though I learned a LOT from him and my formal education, I was just wondering if there are any CEO's here or high ranking managers that can recommend me a solid business book? I'm talking something that you really think is helpful when it comes down to the operations of running a business, not so much the "motivational" side of business, but the day-to-day - managing, marketing, scaling etc. I would really appreciate it if you give me some resources :) Have a Happy New Year. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:19 PM PST I need some insight into the company I'm working for. Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I do wanna see it from upper management's point of view. Our company jas about 20,000 employees and 900 clients in the form of big companies. We open claims for wage and job protection ranging from Worker's comp to FMLA and short-term disability. In late 2019 we finished a merger with another company in order to solidify a huge advantage in the job protection market and a lot of upper management shifting happened, namely the board of directors was updated, our CEO stepped down and became Chairman of the board while another CEO stepped in, etc. So COVID happened and all of a sudden we start getting back-to-back calls all year round opening claims for all these clients. At first it was tough but we understood that it was tough for everyone but now its getting out of hand and all the company did was add new clients, which they're still doing, and burning entry-level employees out. These new clients usually have little support and now everyone at work is AHOD taking all 900 clients. Jesus Christ, what is the company thinking? Why do they keep adding new clients when they can't even support them? Most of the employees are working from home and last Tuesday we lost 15,000 calls due to system issues and had 5% service levels. Damn. So I think there's something the company's not telling us. Because now they're doubling down on micromanagement, etc. And they're trying really hard to add these clients. What makes them think they can or they have to meet these goals? Are they trying to protect their brand? Their reputation? Their contractual obligations? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:10 AM PST If you think about it, why arent companies in the using Covid-19 to make money this way? If your government has given you 2 ultimatums, either shut your business or make WFH manditory. Why not just outsource your work to countries like China or India and pay them less while less while still making money? Obvously this isnt morally correct but legally think it still stands? Getting in to the business side of boxing Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:50 PM PST Not sure this is the best spot for this but the boxing sub won't let me put it there. I am an 18 year old first year in college (undeclared major) who does not know what I'm going to do for my career. I have always had a passion for boxing and am considering a job in the business side that industry. However I have little idea of the span of jobs that are available, what they pay, or how to get in to them. Any advice or suggestions on where to go and how to get involved would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
LUXURY SERVICE: HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:18 PM PST I'm in the process of starting a luxury business where I provide people 5 or 10 recommendations for a fee. I don't directly book/buy the service for them, just help narrow down their options based on qualifying factors they select. Realistically how much would you pay for something like this? Like I said it is a luxury service as people could simply do their own research but I take out that step and make it easier for them to select a service provider fitting their qualifications saving them time and money. To the parents in this group - what do you feel is important when teaching your kids about money? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:10 PM PST So, public schools don't offer much more than basic knowledge of money: mostly just the different values of coins and currency and how to count them when going to the store. I'm not bashing here - just stating my observation (I used to be a teacher, too). My question, though... as someone who makes financial decisions every day, what do you consider to be important lessons to teach your own kids about money? And do you worry that your kids won't learn these things before 'leaving the nest'? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 04:14 PM PST I'm currently going to school to become a social worker and I was planning to have a regular job with that degree until something else picks up but I want to own a business should I start taking business classes? Am I wasting my time with the other schooling? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:41 AM PST Say Employee A overheard Employee B saying something discriminatory (enough to be fired) towards Employee C and notified HR, but Employee C didn't wish to take any further action, does the company still have a duty to reprimand / terminate Employee B based on their company values, or does it depend on the individual victim's wishes?
