Pitfalls to Avoid: Pizza Arbitrage! Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:08 AM PST When a small supplier (pizza joint owner) found Doordash meddling in its business by offering its menu without consent (and at a discount, no less), it retaliated in classic fashion by exploiting the "pizza arbitrage" that Doordash had just created. The pizza shop owner continuously bought his own pizzas off himself for a discounted $16 through the app, whilst receiving the full freight $24 on the other side from Doordash! You can check out the full story by Googling "pizza arbitrage" Moral of the story is, if you have no morals, like Doordash, be sure that your business isn't exposing itself to retaliatory abuse of your customer acquisition strategy :) [link] [comments] |

Business model for a safety device/gadget? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:06 AM PST So I had this idea of a small(3cm x 3cm) wearable kind of safety device and the manufacturing cost comes out to be around $40 after factoring in the cost of electronic components required. I was looking for some inspiration on how to market this product. I mean, why would someone buy a safety device, it is neither of daily use, like Instagram or Uber nor is it guaranteed that every buyer is going to use it even once in their lifetime. Can you suggest some business idea or business model for this kind of safety device? It will be much appreciated. [link] [comments] |

What keeps entrepreneurs from expanding? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:31 AM PST Hi everyone! Recently I am trying to figure out what keeps an entrepreneur stuck at the same revenue level for a long time. Let's say you are making 100-150k/year. What is stopping these entrepreneurs to push for 250k/year and more? I am sure that the majority wants to make more but why they stay put. All your wisdom is welcome. Let's talk about it. [link] [comments] |

Principal Place of Business - I live in a 1 bedroom apartment Posted: 02 Jan 2021 11:45 PM PST I want to start a blog, and put some advertisements on it. My city, county, and state (CA) all consider this a home based business. I need a permit from the city, and an LLC from the state for liability protections. However, I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, and a principal place of business for a home office must be used exclusively to conduct business. So basically, if you live in a 1 bedroom apartment, you can't have a blog and make money from advertisements without risking fines and not being able to have any liability protection? CA LLC Can I dissolve right after formation? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 11:01 PM PST I changed my mind about forming an LLC due to confusion regarding my "principal place of business", although the submission has already been sent to the SOS. Can I dissolve it easily once they approve it? No business has been conducted obviously, and I didn't even sign up for an EIN or anything. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:20 PM PST This might end up being a bit long, and I apologize for that. The situation is a bit complicated, and I just want to clearly define what the problem is. I take responsibility for the error I made, by the way. I am simply looking for possible guidance on a resolution. On New Years Eve, I paid for an LLC formation service for California. I was under the false impression that the Registered Agent service they offer would protect the privacy of my address, more on that later. After payment went through, I learned that the RA can't be used as the principal address of business. I signed up for a virtual mailbox to get a physical address in the state. I submitted this as the principal address of business, which I realized shortly after that it is not OK to do that, it has to be my apartment address. I know there is a process to update the address upon formation, but I don't think I can use the address I am living at. I'm not on the lease. I quickly emailed ZenBusiness support to inform them of my error, but they have been out of the office since December 31st. I tried calling them, and also just reached a pre-recorded message. Today I received an email saying everything had been submitted to the state (even though their offices are closed?). Now that it is likely that the LLC will be formed with an invalid principal address of business, how can I rectify the situation? I still haven't heard back from ZenBusiness support, but I imagine it's too late. I am a broke college student that just wanted to get started doing some basic social media pay-per-click advertising with a little start up capital from my father. No business has been conducted. My mom tested positive for the coronavirus a few weeks ago and my anxiety has been incredibly high. Thanks for reading [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:53 PM PST Howdy, I work for a medium sized company in the beauty industry and was recently offered a consulting gig for a very very very small local brand. My current employer contract states that I cannot work with or for any competing brands in the beauty industry. Has anyone had experience, bad luck, good luck, or anything with a situation like this? I would love to take on the extra work and make a few extra bucks but don't want to risk my full time job. [link] [comments] |
Need advice to accept credit card payments and disburse funds for online platform Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:09 PM PST I am considering building an online platform that would enable my clients to sell items. I would like to manage payment processing and take a percentage of each transaction. Ideally - I think - I would like to accept payments from my clients' customers via a processor with name recognition and reach like Paypal, but would also like to disburse payments directly to my clients' bank accounts. Uber allows for customer payments via Paypal, and it appears to direct driver funds to the driver's bank account. However, after reviewing Paypal's docs, it appears that each of my clients would need to open a Paypal account to receive their money. Given clients would undoubtedly already have a bank account, it would be more convenient to direct funds to it, rather than forcing them to open a Paypal account which seems like another barrier of entry into my platform. I'm presuming Uber has two different models - one for accepting credit card payments and another for disbursing finds to a bank account? Anyone have any guidance or reference material as to how this is is typically done with online platforms, preferably across Canada and the US? [link] [comments] |
How do I get out of a verbal partnership with my father without a legal contract? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:18 PM PST How do I get out of a verbal partnership with my father without a legal contract? (22/M) Back in June I decided to invest ~$18k into my family horse racing business, which my dad has run for over a decade. I had money saved up and rather than let it sit, I invested in a few horses as verbal partners with him and have done pretty well with it. Problem is, as my dad, I did not think a legal contract would be necessary and the LLC is under his name with the money being sent to his bank account by our trainer. Well, me and my dad had a bit of a falling out recently and I need money to cover my living expenses and I am not interested in continuing the partnership. I am owed a little over $7k in profit right now and I would estimate that the half of the horses that I own are worth at LEAST $25-30k. I am willing to let those investments ride out, I just do not want to invest any more. However, my dad says I'm either in or out and he is only willing to give me back the initial investment. I'm not legally savvy, but I've got to be getting the short end of the stick here. What do you guys think my realistic options would be? I don't want to completely lose out on my earnings, but I do recognize that my dad holds most of the leverage here. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:17 PM PST I'm thinking of going into a bachelor's of science, with a chemistry major. My only worry is that I want to create a business out of my education, and with the research I've done it seems pretty sparse. Should i avoid science altogether and find something more viable for business, or stick with it? Any comments are very appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a manager...I think Posted: 02 Jan 2021 01:52 PM PST Hi all So I'm quipped to do lots of things - being editing, design, photography, filming, marketing... However I don't have a "business brain". I used to make money from my services and works in the past (YouTube, eCommerce, local businesses) but my disorganization and such led to my downfall. I didn't know how to stick to good schedule to complete everything or keep in touch with partners, viewers, fans, etc... I will say I have a touch of memory loss and ADHD, both from hereditary things and injuries. I have pro gear, software and all that...but I'm looking for someone who's managed this sort of stuff before who could either help me or point me in the right direction. My dreams are to expand and have more people to work with and maybe even sell actual product someday. And if you're curious if I have anything to show for my past works the answer is no. :( Part of that bad organization and not keeping anything except gear and whatnot. I would give 100% of my works to whoever asked for them and originals were either deleted, lost, or destroyed. I just want to get back to work. Thanks in advance to any and all replies!
