Book recommendations? Trying to climb the corporate ladder as high as possible.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:22 PM PST

Hey! So I've recently turned 30 and I'm feeling a little "lost". I know titles don't hold a ton of weight in large corporate banking environments, but I just made VP and am super proud of myself. I now have 15 people under my umbrella (3 directs all older with more experience (but that's a whole nother story)). My boss's role (or what's likely the next "ladder rung" position for me) seems likes it's going to take me 5+ years to achieve. He's got 50+ employees under his umbrella. It a classic corporate office setting and I don't love the actual work we do, but I do love the potential to lead more and more people. Does anyone have any good book recommendations to either 1.) motivate me to give that extra effort in order to speed up the process or skip a rung entirely or 2.) just be happy where I'm at and wade water until I'm eventually looked at as "ready". The issue is that as you get higher up in management, the requirements for that next grade level or position are very undefined. I'm easily the youngest person in management meetings and I love that feeling. I just want to keep it going and not get lethargic. C-suite someday!? Any advice or books would that have helped any of you successful business people?

Given GME hype now seems like a good time to get more feedback on Ticker Nerd, would you find this useful?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:39 PM PST

I've been building something called TickerNerd over the last couple of months, the response has been great so far. It's still early days of course.

Essentially we surface trending stocks, run them through sentiment analysis and then do a deep dive to understand as much about it as possible. We summarise this into an easy to digest and actionable newsletter sent weekly.

However, now that you've seen the GME hype would this be something you're more or less interested in?

How would you'r dream productivity app will be like

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 05:15 PM PST

    Hello guys

Due to remote work and this whole pandemic.

using productivity apps and team management apps is a must.

But while searching for some good examples , I couldn't really find what i was searching like the services are devided some of them need a course to undrestand the dashbord others with an ugly UI/UX.

    My question is :

How would you really want you'r productivity / management app to look like what features you wish they exist but you can't find them ?

    Free advertising

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 04:11 PM PST

So we are trying to bring a higher traffic to our online store, however we are on a very tight budget as of right now, so I've been trying to get some free advertising techniques or services. Whenever I look online all I get is things like "start a blog" or "write a book", even if I started a blog I'd need people to visit my site to see it! Someone please give some good answers!

Hiring managers, what would you do?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 08:13 AM PST

I am the Executive Director for a small non profit home for disabled adults. I'm currently interviewing candidates for the position of Resident House Manager. It's not a big budget job however the pay is very competitive - it also includes living expenses.

    My conundrum is this.

I have a candidate who looks great on paper, gave a very good first round phone interview despite some technical issues (we had to stop early). I followed up for another round and to finish what couldn't be gathered in the first round bc of said technical issues.

I asked for a Zoom meeting trying to be flexible and because his phone connection was the issue first time around.

Made the appointment, connected with the candidate and it was if I woke him from a nap bc instead of just appearing on the screen, he rose up from what looked like a lying down position on the couch.

His hair was a bit disheveled (but I also understand that's "a look") and he was wearing a tattered up hoodie. I politely asked him if he remembered we had an interview (bc you never know) and he said yes - and we got to talking.

However, he gave me a pretty good interview- surprised me to say the least. He had more experiences (good ones) than he had listed on his resume, but is younger than what I want in a candidate for the responsibilities the job entails. However with some coaching, I felt that he had the energy and a lot of other life skills that made me feel like he could definitely be mentored.

There is something about this person that I really liked, despite the "second" odd impression (first impression on the phone was good, second impression via face time surprised me - as I explained.

My husband who's an HR executive said "if you cannot manage yourself (personal grooming) how will you manage others who need a lot of structure, attention, care, etc" when I asked him about my quandary. However, this person also has a strong background in the area I'm looking for, just not the administration part.

The candidate answered all my questions well, he had a lot of enthusiasm and energy- and I could tell even though he didn't exactly "dress for it", he wanted it. When we talked about salary he was - I don't know how to put it - very humbled. He only wanted to make sure it was a living wage.

I feel like he's worthy of the next step which would be an in person meeting with some more of the board members - I'm just afraid he will show up looking more like a starving college student than a potential job candidate. I don't expect him to wear a suit or go beyond his means - bc maybe he doesn't have the means. I just wonder if anyone else has had this experience and if so, what did you do? Were your instincts on or off?

Can I coach him at all or would this be a no no? If it's not, how would you say it so as not to insult him, but to encourage? Even a pair of jeans and new plain white t shirt would be fine. I don't want to insult him - he's clearly got a lot to give, but I also know that I can be wrong - I could have a person who "talks a good game" - but it didn't seem that way.

I'm a bit older, so I over think at times - and I am a bit self conscious about appearing put together so I ensure I always "dress" for the situation. I know that many things are different now in our work culture - but I would appreciate kind advice,

    Thanks in advance.

    Attract Sales

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:48 PM PST

I currently just got moved to run a new store in my franchise for a international food restaurant. We do delivery and our corporate expected our sales to be around 20k a week, taking into factor the competition around here and the households. We are only doing 11k. I have noticed even before I came here that there is still a good amount of people in this delivery area and general area that do not even know this location exists even a year later. I've tried door hanging and my supervisor has said he has done Facebook ads and mail ins, is there anything else I can do that is realistic to attract new customers?

If you think more Facebook ads or mail ins is a good idea, I was thinking about kicking them into gear against. I also was planning on contacting the two nearby hotels to see if we could work with them to bring anything into the rooms or buy keycards.

    Any ideas?

    Opening a gym help?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 01:37 PM PST

Hello, I am interested in opening a gym. I am in the Military and workout almost every single day. I have a fair amount of money for my age (20), a net worth of about $35,000 and no debts. I'm looking to save anywhere from $20,000-$30,000 this year in preparation.

Next year I would like to open one of those Fitness Bootcamp style gyms in a studio or warehouse building. I am from New England so winter is an issue if I did it outwit. The army offers business consultants that can physic guide me to things I need done but what can I learn from the people here? Let me know ANYTHING that will help me in the future!

Note: the equipment I'm looking to use would be easily accessible and useable things like cones, jump ropes, turf, kettlebells, and push sled.

**I do not have any fitness certifications or schooling. Do I legally need any of that to run these kinds of courses or should I look into hiring a couple trainers who could lead the classes for me?

    Thank you all.

Is it wrong to pay for initial office lease payment out of personal funds?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:11 AM PST

We cannot get an appointment with the bank to set up our business account until the middle of next week due to Covid but we need to sign a lease starting 2/1.

Will we lose the protection of the LLC if we lend the money out of personal funds without running it through a separate corporate account first? Is there a way to do this properly?
