Posted: 30 Jan 2021 08:13 AM PST I have worked as a product designer since 2011. Since then I have volunteered on several projects, but I have always found it a little difficult to find non-profits or open-source teams that needed the help. Sites have always existed to help connect volunteers and non-profits, but I have not found a site that focuses solely on connecting technologists (designers, programmers, project managers, etc.) with non-profits. I recently designed an MVP and began building my Web app, which allows non-profits and open-source teams to post ads for designers, programmers, and project managers (this will be expanded a bit post-launch). My goal is to grow the site and eventually charge for upgraded listings or other extras. I would sincerely appreciate any feedback you might have. If you would like to learn more about the site, feel free to check it out at www.voluntech.co - I expect to launch in about a month. [link] [comments] |
Feedback on my new snack product & website! Please. Posted: 30 Jan 2021 10:17 AM PST 👇👇👇👇👇👇 A little background: Beyond the positive environmental impact, we identified a bankruptcy crisis affecting many farms across the United States. Most notably, in the Pacific Northwest, there was a 109% increase in farm bankruptcies from 2019 to 2020. We're setting out to help them generate revenue from a waste product and gain their economic independence back. Our one-of-a-kind beef rinds are made from 100% grass-fed cows sourced from sustainable, regenerative farms throughout the Pacific Northwest. Would love to get any feedback on the product, website, or anything else. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Any advice on budgeting for non essential business upgrades? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 07:46 AM PST Like say we have a ridiculously dirty and worn out sink. Obviously we don't NEED to replace it, but it would be really nice to have a washroom that doesn't make you want to vomit. How does one budget for these types of upgrades? Or is it something you don't even save toward but rather purchase only when you have tons of expendible cash? Would love to hear your thoughts or personal methods. [link] [comments] |
I recently discovered Stoicism and it’s helping me take control of my life Posted: 30 Jan 2021 10:14 AM PST Over the course of my life, I've begun to realize that so many of us spend so much time concerning ourselves with things that are not within out control. Personally, this has affected my peace of mind and productivity as a whole. That's when I came across Stoic philosophy, which has given me a roadmap to mental clarity and better living. Stoicism presents a concept called "The Dichotomy of Control" which is a lot like The Locus of Control, and talks about a concentrated focus on factors that are completely within one's control and doing the best that you can with that. I discuss this in depth here - https://youtu.be/pMa3RMpbGH8 With regard to my productivity, there are so many variables that shape my day; impromptu meetings, family emergencies, shifting priorities, etc. But what I've done is understand that a lot these variables are exceedingly common and I will only benefit from not wasting too much time thinking about them and instead channel my energy towards being efficient and effective with my time. It might help to explore stoic philosophy if you're looking to live a happier, more productive life. [link] [comments] |
How I launched a SaaS Product in 63 days while working full-time! Posted: 30 Jan 2021 12:14 PM PST Today is an amazing day 🤩 Because I got my first 3 paying users on my SaaS Product, FeedHive. I began working on FeedHive on the 28th of November, 2020. That means, that it has taken exactly 63 days to go from start to paying users. All while working +40h/week with two clients as a consultant. How did I manage to pull this off? Let me share some tips on productivity, management, and growth 🚀 Have a dedicated audienceFirst of all - and this may not come as a surprise - spending time building a dedicated audience makes a huge difference. I started building my very first SaaS Product in February 2020. I made a lot of mistakes, but the biggest one was underestimating the value of having an audience. At this point, I had around 250 followers on Twitter and barely used LinkedIn. I launched Sigmetic in June 2020 - and no one cared. It got close to 0 traction and I had to almost drag users into the platform by force. It was the book "Rework" that made it clear to me, how important a dedicated audience is. So I decided to build one, and I made it my primary goal to grow a dedicated following as fast as possible. I made a public announcement about FeedHive in a tweet on the 3rd of January this year. This time, it was different. I now had 30K followers, and the tweet got 1.1K likes and a lot of comments! Since then, FeedHive has been mentioned over and over on Twitter, and a lot of people are very interested in the product. Get early users and feedback FASTYeah, you've probably heard it before. Most likely, many, many times. But it's because it's crucially important. Through Twitter, I invited 20 users in, already 12 days after I started developing FeedHive. The application didn't do a whole lot - only very basic functionality. And it was full of bugs. I created a small focus group on Twitter (a group chat), and I have been talking to these users daily. Not only did they provide invaluable feedback and catch 90% of all the existing bugs, but a lot of them also came to fall in love with the product and are some of the biggest advocates today! It's very clear: Without having this group of users onboard this early, FeedHive would most likely have completely missed the target! Reuse everything you canI have built FeedHive on a technology stack using AWS and React. Two super popular solutions. The biggest takeaway here, is that there are so many awesome libraries out there that can save you a lot of time. I've used Chakra UI for the front end, AWS Amplify and AppSync for the back end, and a lot of small libraries that were already made and ready to use. Do yourself a favor and use as much of this as you possibly can! In addition to that, I also got a great habit of reusing my own code. From previous projects, I encapsulated small modules that could easily be reused. Templates for landing pages, utility functions, authentication modules, etc. I've also gotten into the habit of reusing some of the code that I've been writing during my work as a consultant. Remember - it is not appropriate to use solutions that you do not own the intellectual property of! But it is mostly ok to take individual small code snippets, approaches, and general know-how that you gain from your daily work. Of course, make very sure what you are allowed to take. If anything you do outside the project can have any side-effects that you can take advantage of - do so! Spend time on marketingIt probably goes without saying - if you don't market your product, you'll never get users. I have spent a good deal of time creating initial hype around FeedHive. This includes making promo videos, demos, and example screenshots. I have shared a lot of insights, details about the technology stack, and user statistics. It's popular to build in public. People love it - they are curious, and they want to get inspired to build on their own. Take advantage of that. Keep people in the loop. Share your progress, and don't be embarrassed about sharing the negatives as well. People rarely judge - they actually really appreciate the openness about it! Hard workYes, we're not gonna get around it. I've been working a lot in these past two months. Counting all work hours, including working as a consultant, I have put down around 80-100 hours every single week. This is not healthy, and I wouldn't recommend doing this on an ongoing basis. But for a limited period of time, it really helps if you can buckle down some serious work! Some small hints and hacks. It's not healthy to sacrifice sleep. But again - for a shorter period of time, you can sleep a little less than you ideally would. See if you can cut 30 minutes - 1 hour pr. night on average. Ideally, I need to sleep 7 hours every night, but cutting 30 minutes - 1 hour has helped me get in extra work. So I typically get up at 4.30 AM and start working on my project. Then I switch to working for my clients from 8 AM until 5 PM. Then I continue working on my project until 9.30 PM and getting ready to sleep at 10 PM. I'll add to this that I have an amazing girlfriend who has been incredibly supportive. She has been doing most cooking, groceries, and housework in this period. This has enabled me to keep full focus on the work. Keep it organizedBe super tight with your schedule. I am a huge fan of using Todoist in combination with Trello. I write everything down - categorizing, prioritizing, and scheduling it. I can really recommend spending time grooming your taskboard. Keep it updated and make sure that no quick thoughts slip away. Write everything down as soon as you remember. Make sure you spend your time optimally. I use a Pomodoro-inspired technique to keep my focus high while working. SummaryLet's just do a quick summary here. Build an audience. This is a great investment, even if the product you're working on right now isn't going to succeed. Get user feedback as fast as possible. This will save you a lot of time in improving your product, finding bugs, and making fast decisions. Reuse as much as you can.Anything from existing libraries, code snippets that you wrote in other projects or at work (to the extent that you are allowed). Spend time on marketing.Put aside a significant time every day/week to do marketing. This part can end up determining your success entirely. Hard workGet ready to put down hard work. Remember - you shouldn't neglect your health. But doing less workout, eating less healthy, and sleeping less for a shorter period of time is ok. Just don't make it a habit. Keep it organizedSpend a good deal of time putting everything into structure and make sure that your time is spent as optimal as possible. I hope this can help some of you indie hackers out there 😊 [link] [comments] |

Mastermind Group (Meet Once Per Month) Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:12 AM PST Hi Everyone, I am looking for a couple of people to complete a mastermind group I am in. We are a group of entrepreneurs, and some of us have active business that are getting traffic and generating revenue. We are looking for people at a similar stage with their side hustle. We meet virtually once a month and share ideas to help improve each others businesses. If you are keen or know someone who is, then drop me a DM. Would be great to meet any other entrepreneurs and try to help them on their journey. If you don't have a revenue generating business or a business at all but are interested, please still send me a message and If I get enough interest I will try to create another group for other people that want to try and help each other excel. Please put in the subject line of the message, whether you have a revenue generating business or not. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Is $550 for an Instagram Brand/Account with 100k followers worth it? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 03:36 PM PST I'm looking to buy social media brands and I got an offer for one Instagram brand with 100k followers. for $550 USD. I checked metrics which is 0.8% engagement with a 2k growth monthly. The avg like is 800- 1200 and 12 comments. The only issue is that the brand is in India. My target demographic will eventually be US and Canada. My plan is to coordinate a ton of giveaways and engaging posts to my target demographic till we reach 600k, diluting the current demographic. Is it worth it? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jan 2021 04:44 PM PST I'm just overwhelmed with the amount of work from my personal life and me wanting to get my business off the ground. I just moved countries so I am still in the process of getting settled into my apartment. Hell I don't even have a couch or a TV. I want to start my company right now and I can see it grow and become something big but I know I need to get my personal life stable before I start my company. I work, do uber, and go to the gym daily it just feels like there is no time to focus on what really matters. Maybe I am not managing my time well enough... Also ran into a couple setbacks like my car being broken into 3 times, my ex breaking up with me, and some issues with my landlord. It just seems that every turn I make there is something trying to throw me off course. [link] [comments] |
What’s the best CRM & bookkeeping software? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 05:36 PM PST I own a small web development and digital marketing firm that has started to gain traction the past couple of months and we are a bit overwhelmed keeping our projects & finances organized. We have been keeping track of projects just through email, Google docs, physical notebooks & memory which clearly isn't sustainable as we grow. I'm looking for a software where we can track from first consultation call all the way to finished project as well as invoice, take payments & book keep for tax purposes. I want my team to be able to upload documents, photo & video content, etc. to each individual project because a lot of us work in different states. I'd like to also have the ability to make notes on the status of projects and each team member's contributions. What software has amazing project management capabilities and also allows us to invoice, take payment, and book keep? [link] [comments] |
I need to find a trademark lawyer! Posted: 29 Jan 2021 02:54 PM PST I'm not sure if this applies to this subreddit, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. My company has a few brand names that are legally trademarked for at least 10+ years. However, I have found multiple Chinese vendors on Alibaba that are using our brand name to sell their products in the same product category as us and are also selling to the U.S market. Are there any trademark lawyers here that can consult with me or point me in the right direction? We are based in New York City. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
