Will home insurance cover this? Posted: 05 Dec 2020 10:10 PM PST Long story short, my friend's house caught on fire. It started in the garage in which they use to work on cars. It was obviously an accident but of course there were precautions they could have taken and red flags that were ignored. Luckily, they made it out alive and well but of course the worry that the insurance won't cover this fire is really stressing them. I know it varies by company but should they expect any pushback from the insurance or possibly denying the claim? This is in South Florida. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Dec 2020 01:40 PM PST Hi, I added GAP via the dealership I bought my car from. I wanted to cancel and was told by finance guy it'll take 6-8 weeks to process. Is this normal? Just making sure. Thanks so much in advance. State: California [link] [comments] |
Thinking about child only policy for my toddler with autism in TX. Posted: 05 Dec 2020 04:52 PM PST So the past year and half my husband has been killing himself mentally and physically working 2 jobs and going to school. It's just bad luck because the places I applied to never called me back. I work part time around my husband's schedules and daughter's therapy schedule. I'm trying to find options to lessen the load in his shoulders because the job with insurance pays poorly and it's a 1 hour commute there and 1 hour back. My husband's insurance is $200 premium and $1300 deductible with 100% coverage after the deductible. What all is out there to cover speech, OT, and behavioral therapy? Pretty desperate to cut my husband down to 1 job since he's starting grad school. [link] [comments] |
USAA Auto nonrenewal notice... only 1 accident in 3 years Posted: 06 Dec 2020 01:25 AM PST I got a nonrenewal notice in the mail, dated 11/27/2020, which listed the reason for the nonrenewal on the 6 month policy to be "poor history of responsible driving" and the determining factors were: At-fault other (hit garage door) 11/27/2017 (cost $1200) At-fault failure to yield (was NOT cited) 1/7/2020 (cost ~$5500 between both parties) It seems strange because the 27th incident was supposed to be going off the policy (I think) and the 7th was covered under accident forgiveness. Did I just get dropped because my premium was going to go down? I can't help but feel like USAA doesn't have my back and are clearly stabbing me in the back with their guaranteed renewal removal a couple years ago. Plus they should've done it during the July renewal, right? Market is Louisiana. [link] [comments] |
Refund for unused GAP insurance? Posted: 05 Dec 2020 03:45 PM PST I totaled my car that I had for about seven months. Was Tboned in an intersection. My insurance paid off my car loan in its entirety. The lender we had my car loan through said they would try to get any extra charges(warranty, GAP, extra insurance, etc) refunded. We got a letter saying they're working on a refund for the extended warranty but we haven't heard anything about the GAP. Should we try to call and get it refunded ourselves or let the lender handle it? It's been about a month. [link] [comments] |
Insuring a spaceship and the tourists in it Posted: 05 Dec 2020 07:11 PM PST So a company called Virgin Galactic plans to launch its commercial operations next year. The business essentially involves a person paying $250,000 for a flight ticket. You go to a spaceport in New Mexico where you to go for a 4 day training to be a astronaut and fly to space. The flight to space is a 2.5 hour flight involving a mother plane that releases a spaceship 50,000 feet in the air and that spaceship then goes 90-100km above the earth surface where one would experience weightlessness and see the curvature of the earth. Then the spaceship glides back down to earth. Does this experience require the company to have insurance? Is it like the same insurance airline companies have if a plane crashes? Would be expensive or is it even insurable? Apparently it's not as dangerous as it sounds and safety is similar to a commercial jet . [link] [comments] |
Temporary Job - $1000 per month insurance premium. HELP! Posted: 05 Dec 2020 11:05 AM PST So my dad is under a temporary contract and is not eligible for benefits (yet). He went out today to get an insurance for my mom and himself. He has now opted an insurance with a monthly payment of $1000 (WHICH IS FREAKING WAY OVER OUR BUDGET). Is he being dumb? I am truly disappointed with the lady he reached out to as she said this is the lowest premium available based on their combined income. Can anyone please suggest what to do? My mom and dad's combined income is less than $70k and they are based in TX. None of their employers can offer benefits. [link] [comments] |
Should I leave claims adjusting to pursue underwriting? Posted: 05 Dec 2020 07:56 AM PST I've been a claims adjuster for about 5 years now. I don't hate my actual job, but I am starting to experience some burnout stress from the workload and dealing with hostile people 24/7. I feel more like a glorified call center representative than an adjuster at this point. My company also just re-orged and did some layoffs, so there doesn't look like there's going to be any opportunities for me to move up any time soon. I have been sort of passively looking for a semi-career change, something still in the industry. I've been thinking about underwriting, as I think the knowledge I've gained in claims would still be useful but it would also focus more on the aspects of the job I like. I'm more of an analytical person than a people person these days and I think I might be better suited to something like underwriting. A few things give me pause, however - a friend mentioned to me he thinks there will be less demand for underwriters in the future due to everything becoming more automated. Even though I can't really move UP, there is also a lot of job security right now for me as an adjuster if I don't mind staying in my same position. My company is always hiring and hard pressed to find adjusters. I do make a decent salary and I get to work from home. It's a sweet gig, I just feel like I'm growing stagnant. I also heard that there is more upward mobility if you get into the sales/financial side of insurance rather than claims. I'm not sure if there is any truth to this, but I do want to get out of the trenches and live that corporate life one day. Is there anybody with underwriting and/or claims experience, or maybe even experience in both areas of the business, who could chime in and let me know what you think? What do you like/hate about underwriting? What do you like/hate about claims? If you had the opportunity to get out of claims, would you? Should you? TL;DR: unsure if I should pursue underwriting or stick it out where I am in claims career-wise [link] [comments] |
Homeowners Claim Question (while Selling Home) Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:39 PM PST So I'm selling my house and I'm undercontract. I started getting sick 2 months ago and found out yesterday that the window seal is leaking badly in my basement that caused mold around the drywall in that area including and the carpet. I moved all my stuff out yesterday because of the mold. My question is will homeowners insurance cover the damage caused by the window if I'm not living there right now and the house is under contract? [link] [comments] |
Questions on repairs (going through the other party’s insurance) Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:31 PM PST So the short story is the other driver was changing lanes, said he didn't see me, I tried to swerve to avoid but he kept coming/ it happened too quickly. He pushed me into the median and I spun out over three lanes of traffic till I ended up in a ditch. This is what my car looks like: My first question: does this look repairable without the car being totaled out? My car is probably worth about 4K and I'm not sure what the estimate on repairs is going to be. It still runs and everything. Second question: how long will it take to decide liability and start the repairs? I spoke to the other party's adjuster on Friday (the day it happened) and he said my story and his insured's story pretty much line up. But that his supervisors were coming down hard on lane change accidents so it would have to be reviewed. I don't know what I could've done differently but I'm sure that I'll be assigned some fault😒. Noting I don't have collision (I know I should have it but I can't afford a 300 a month car insurance payment) so I'm stuck going through his insurance and I just want to try to figure out a timeline instead of stewing at home all weekend. Any advice is very much appreciated and thank you for reading this far! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:30 PM PST So, I've got into a small accident involving my car and a friend's car - without going into too much detail, we're both parked in the same driveway, he was reversing out of the driveway and hit my car (I was not in my car at the time). There are small scratches on both cars and a slight dent in his car, but otherwise no major damage. We agreed that neither of us want to claim as we do not want to lose our NCB and neither of us have reported the accident yet. If I were to report the accident (info only, no claims), do I have to tell the insurer my friend's details (name, registration, etc)? Is it possible to report the accident without sharing any of his information? Of course, I can't report this as a hit and run since I would have to change the story completely (I can't claim to not know who the other driver was as I would have to tell them that we live together since we're using the same driveway). Based in the UK. EDIT: bonus question, if I do have to share my friend's info when reporting the accident (info only, no claim), would his insurance company (or my insurance company) inform him that a report has been made that involves him, and perhaps even ask why he didn't report himself? Posted: 05 Dec 2020 12:59 PM PST In Alabama. My husband had another fender bender this morning. He had two incidents in 2018 when we were covered under another company. Our USAA policy is supposed to renew in February. Should I be preparing to shop around because of non-renewal? [link] [comments] |
Backed into a parked car pulling out of driveway Posted: 05 Dec 2020 12:02 PM PST As title reads. I gave the owner my info. Very minor damage to his car and none to mine. Should I call and tell my insurance? I have small accident forgiveness, does this apply to my situation? How will my insurance handle this? Will I pay outta pocket? This is my first accident. I am from the US and in Michigan Thank you [link] [comments] |
Question about a S.O. to Progressive auto insurance Posted: 05 Dec 2020 11:55 AM PST My S.O. wants to join my insurance because we got a quote and it would lower their car insurance by half and reduce mine by a little less than $100. We both need the extra cash, but I'm worried that if they get in an accident it could raise my insurance for years. They think if that were to happen we could just take them off afterward and my insurance would stay the same and just their insurance would just go up (I wouldn't have any lasting repercussions). Is that right? We'd both be listed on the policy (though I'd be the primary policyholder) and their car (which they drive 99% of the time) is in their name. I'm insured through Progressive in Michigan. We're both over 25. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Dec 2020 10:40 AM PST I had an accident last week (Friday evening). I was taking a right (Hyundai Sedan), when the other vehicle (Ford Jeep) mid-way between his U-turn hit me. His driver side headlight hit my driver side's fender, headlight, and bumper. I was pretty shaken up, and he suggested to just exchange the insurance information, and not call the police. I just nodded. 20 minutes later after my shivering has settled a bit, I called my insurance, and they suggested that I should get my car towed, since I was not feeling okay, and my car's fender was obstructing my front left tire. My driver's side fender, headlight, and bumper got damaged. The other party's driver side headlight also took damage, since that was the part of his vehicle that hit my driver side's fender. Yesterday, I got a call from my insurance that the other party had filed for bodily injuries and had hired an attorney. I was surprised because his car got very less damage, and that too on driver's headlight, and he is claiming for injuries to the passengers. I am scared since I am just a student, and the other party had two kids, their mother, and grandmom in the car. My insurance only covers 30,000$ per person, and 60,000$ per accident in bodily injuries. Should I hire a lawyer? Are there chances that I would have to pay charges above 60,000$ later down the line? My insurance adjuster says that it is a 50-50 negligence case. Location : Texas [link] [comments] |
Looking for claim help: Can I claim an item I purchased on Craigslist that was stolen? Posted: 05 Dec 2020 10:12 AM PST I need to file an insurance claim for property that got stolen, but I don't know how to file it for items that I've purchased on craigslist. It's a snowboard that is pretty old by now. (~12 years) but the company continues to sell the same board by the same name. I got a really good deal on it on Craigslist, so I have no proof of purchase, but it's still a high end snowboard that I am frustrated to have lost. How do I describe the item in my insurance Claim? Do I just give the make and model, sans year? Or do I give as much detail as possible, letting them know it is a 12 year old board? I'm afraid of not getting reimbursed enough to purchase a new snowboard of the same caliber (I can't find my year's board for new anymore). Location: Oregon, USA. [link] [comments] |
Why does progressive keep canceling my policy Posted: 05 Dec 2020 09:00 AM PST They can't give me a straight answer and tell me I improperly purchased a policy mind you I did it over the phone. They also said serviced with unauthorized broker or agent. Wtf does this mean. It's the second time smh. CT Hartford. [link] [comments] |
Go through insurance for repairs or pay out of pocket Posted: 05 Dec 2020 08:57 AM PST I live in Ontario, Canada. A couple days ago I was leaving my apartment parking garage and, regretfully, side-swiped a concrete pillar which scraped the rear right side of my vehicle. There's damage to the rear passenger door, quarter panel, and a bit to the bumper. I got a quote today and it is estimated to cost nearly $5,000 to repair. What is your recommendation for payment here? Pay out of pocket or file an insurance claim? I am concerned my rates would raise significantly, and the repairs may not even be covered since I was at fault. I have enough to cover the repairs, but I want to do whatever is most financially prudent. For some additional context I am a 26 y/o male. I have gotten into 1 at-fault collision with another vehicle before and there was no damage claimed for that instance. This used up the accident forgiveness my plan had to offer. Any advice you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Dec 2020 07:45 AM PST My condo ceiling got a leak through the roof during a roof job. I filed a claim with roofer insurance. Insurance company did send out an adjuster, which they outsource, to come look and take photos of damage in my unit. It's been over a month and I keep calling insurance company and adjuster and they keep saying they are still investigating........ Is there anyway to make they work faster, is getting a lawyer a good idea? I am in Chicago, IL. [link] [comments] |
