    PsychoMarket Recap - Tuesday, December 8, 2020

Stocks turned positive Tuesday, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones shaking yesterday's losses and the Nasdaq recording a new intraday recor. Market participants continue to weigh rising coronavirus cases in the United States and optimism surrounding a vaccine and additional fiscal stimulus.

In Washington, lawmakers continue to negotiate in order to agree on measures to fund the government and provide another virus relief package. Lawmakers are poised to vote tomorrow Wednesday on a resolution to push back the deadline to fund the government from this Friday to next week in order to avoid a government shutdown, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said. We'll closely monitor developments in this matter.

In an effort to support the economy, a bipartisan group of Senators unveiled a new stimulus proposal worth $908 billion, a sum greater than the ceiling Senate Leader Mitch McConnel (Rep.) set but below the Democrat's original $2 billion proposal. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Dem.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (Dem.) have indicated they support the proposal and Senator Bill Cassidy (Rep.) told Fox News he is confident the President and Senator McConnell will support the bill. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out but we do not expect the passage of any stimulus at least until Biden's administration takes over.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease expert in the United States, says the full impact of Thanksgiving gatherings hasn't been seen yet. He said, "The blip from Thanksgiving isn't even here yet. So we're getting those staggering numbers of new cases and hospitalizati0ns before we even feel the full brunt of the Thanksgiving holiday". The US is averaging nearly 200,000 infections and 2,237 deaths in the last seven numbers, the deadliest week in the pandemic since late April, according to Johns Hopkins University. There are well over 100,000 patients hospitalized with coronavirus. Yesterday, the US recorded around 202,000 new daily infections, 101,487 patients hospitalized, and 1,522 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins Univerisity.

Despite rising cases, the market is reacting positively to the prospects for widespread vaccine distribution next year and the possibility of additional fiscal stimulus in the US. Margaret Keenan, a 90-year-old woman from the United Kingdom, became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine outside of the clinical trial. While expectations for growth in 2021 remain high, we expect volatility in the market in the short-term, given the surge in coronavirus cases and the reimposition of restrictions across the nation. California recently placed more than 85% of its residents under stay-at-home order after ICU capacity fell below 15%.

Looking ahead, market participants will continue to eagerly follow developments on the coronavirus vaccine. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to convene its outside scientific advisory board on Thursday to discuss Pfizer's (PFE) emergency use authorization request for its vaccine. The advisors could vote as soon as that day whether to recommend that the FDA green-light the inoculation and allow the first phase of roll-outs to states. Moderna (MRNA) has also filed an emergency use authorization with the FDA. The FDA is expected to make an announcement about Moderna's vaccine sometime this week as well.

    Highlights

    • The FDA says the Pfizer $PFE vaccine meets all safety and success criteria. They are expected to approve the vaccine in the coming days.
    • A QuantumScape executive claimed the company's new solid-state lithium-metal battery being developed initially developed for electric cars could be powerful enough for use in electric aircraft. The director said, "Electric aviation starts to look a lot more attractive and viable when you have this kind of energy density and power".
    • After falling to the low $20s following Citron's report, Palantir (PLTR) has mounted a remarkable comeback, back close to $30. Today it was announced the company was awarded a $44.4 million contract by the FDA for data analytics services to speed up review of new medicines, according to a company statement.
    • Amazon $AMZN target set by Needham & Co to $3,700 at BUY rating. Stock currently around $3150s.
    • Equifax $EFX target raised by Needham from $200 to $210. Stock currently around $170s.

Tesla to raise up to $5 billion in share offering, its second in three months

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 04:28 AM PST

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/08/tesla-to-raise-up-to-5-billion-in-share-offering.html

Tesla unveiled a $5 billion capital raise, its second such move in three months.

The additional shares will be sold "from time to time" and "at-the-market" prices, Tesla said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Tesla's market cap is currently at $598 billion, meaning the new offering represents less than 1% of the company's value.

Investors will buy this dip. People will just keep buying tesla stock due to the fomo and meme. It is a solid stock it is better to hold through the volatility.

    Thanks for the awards.

TSLA - Correction coming in future??

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 07:09 PM PST

So here is what I think is happening. Elon just announced that he is moving to Texas. I firmly believe that this move is strategic. He is gonna unload his stocks (some or all) and will not have to pay the CA tax on those gains as TX doesn't have state tax. Any takers of my conspiracy theory??

TESLA sell $5B in shares | Stock market news | Why stock market investors predict gains in 2021 |[12-08]

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 06:30 AM PST

Tesla just announced that it's selling $5B again, retail investors expect big gains next year despite the recent uncertainty in the US with the relief package debacle, cases rising at very high rates and the government maybe facing a temporary shutdown

Hey everyone ! So, let's start with the recap of yesterday as we saw the DOW JONES down by half a percent, the SP500 down 0,2% while the tech heavy NASDAQ COMPOSITE outperformed, finishing up 0,45 and closing yet again at a new record high. We did see the volatility index going higher, as more uncertainty puts some pressure on the markets with the stimulus and government funding bill on the table.

We saw a bigger ratio of companies losing ground yesterday as small caps and especially growth companies outperformed the value plays yesterday with gains being made only in Technology, Utilities and Communications sectors while Energy was the biggest loser as the illness still keeps the pressure on the Oil business.

Here is the HEAT MAP from yesterday as 3 of the big FAANG names outperformed the market yesterday, with Apple being up more than 1% while FB and NFLX did even better up 2 and 3,5% for the day. You can also see a lot of red in this map as not many companies did good yesterday except big tech names.

So, some TESLA news, yesterday the company spiked to a new all time high at over 640$ as the stock soared over 7% again. The stock has gone up more than 200$ in the last month as more and more people are buying shares in anticipation of the SP500 inclusion and more and more analysts raise price target and expectations for the company. Tesla also just announced a sell of shares worth of $5B again as the company continues to raise more capital to fund the new factories and firm up the balance sheet while reducing the debt of the company. I think this a good time to be careful and maybe take some profits in this stock before next week, as many people may end up selling shares on the 18th and 21st and we might see a correction instead of a spike in price when the company is included in the SP500. aka [buy the news/sell the event] NEWS

Some of the economic data that we received yesterday was worse than expected as the home purchase sentiment index rising streak ended this month with a dip of 1.7 points and is down more than 11 points year over year.

While the TD Ameritrade Investor Movement is index down from the previous month as investors bought more Apple, Tesla and AT&T shares while selling Moderna, Beyond Meat and Micron.

Also, the small business optimism index dipped more than expected and fell to 101,2, down from 104 in October.

So, a recent survey from Investopedia shows that over 20% of investors are expecting gains of at least 10% for next year with more than ¾ expecting that 2021 will be another positive year for the stock market.

Most investors expect the biggest gains to be made in the US equities while CHINA and other emerging markets are the next to follow with the Eurozone expected to lag.

While this individual investors expect the large cap tech companies to continue to have big gains followed by pharma and health companies. I think this is a recency bias, as I don't think any one sector will largely outperform next year, with lots of gains to be made everywhere once the full reopening of the economy will begin. Jim Cramer Quote

I think investors are pretty bullish as the AAII survey showed last week, I think this might be a problem for the stock market. I don't think the stock market will go up as fast as investors would like, and this might push more of them into more and more risk taking, especially the new investors, which desire to make a fortune fast. I expect the stock market to be higher by this time next year, but the rate of which it will go up is still going to scare some investors off. As the market sentiment is way into euphoria levels as you can see in this survey, and with retail investors being more powerful than ever before as they account for about 20% of the stock market activity on average daily as we also might see some turbulence in the next couple of months until things will become more stable with the economy, vaccines, politics and everything else with the smart money index continues to drop while stocks reach new highs, this might be the time to take a wait and see approach and maybe try to buy the dips when they come.

Some good news came early today the first ever recipient of the public vaccine from Pfizer has been vaccinated today in the UK, this is the start of the rollout of the vaccine in the UK and it is expected that the US will follow in the next couple of weeks. As the "vaccine summit" will be in full display this week. This is great news for the entire world.

On some individual stock news, the darling of the moment Lemonade just launched in its 3rd EU country, in France, following the Netherlands and Germany launches.

While the 2 big IPOs will come on Thursday as both AirBNB and DoorDash are expected to go public at insanely high valuations.

After the close today we will get Chewy earnings results and I expect the company to dazzle and to crush them, as pets have become more and more popular this year.

Thank you everyone for reading! Hope you enjoyed the content! Be sure to leave a comment down below with your opinion on the stock market!

Have a great day and see you next time!

Charged full price of shares sold for commission on Etrade? Help please

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 05:56 PM PST

Hello, So today I accidentally purchased 20 shares of Jcpenny stock (I know it sound stupid) I had it within my saved list because I wanted to watch it, but instead of clicking BP I clicked JC. Anyways After realizing my mistake 2 hours later, I sold the stock. From what I understood you are allowed to buy/sell stocks the same day 3 times a week. What I don't understand is how When I sold the stock back for .2013 cents a share, I was charged 11 dollars commission, making my sell worthless (since it was around 10.87 when executed). Can someone help me understand this? I know its only 11 dollars, but I don't want to make this mistake again on later purchases. Is it because ETRADE has an insanely high commission towards day trade stocks?

Uncertainty about the AIRBNB future after IPO

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 05:42 PM PST

The spike of COVID cases recently should take a step back on the AirBnB future expansion. I'm a big fan of AirBnB and believe AIRBNB should have a great IPO.

Let me take you to think about one concern. One of the biggest accommodations provider is Hilton. Let say one of the property of Hilton is been notify that there is COVID case in the hotel. The Hilton management will take a action immediately on this matter as fast as possible to avoid further loses such as brand image. This can be done because Hilton is owning all the property and definitely help the customer and staff that been infected. If this example happen to AIRBNB, uncertainty will rise because they don't own the property and the worse case is the owner of the property need to pay extra for sanitation and health equipment such as infrared thermometer. This will make the owner of property feel burden if happen. So far AIRBNB just give guideline and handbook on cleaning process. Don't not mention anything about the cost of it which again reflected to the property owner. I really hope AIRBNB after the IPO should reconsider about the safety for the owner as well as the customer not only as a accommodation platform. The investor need to feel the confidence and believing the AIRBNB for long term.

    What do you think?

    GNUS stock

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 01:23 PM PST

Hi! I was reading that GNUS just made a deal with LG to show programing on their TVs. Because of the announcement, the stock rose a little bit, just enough for me to turn a very small profit. I've had it for 6 months, to very little avail.

I'm wondering what those who know better than me think. Is this a stock worth keeping? Does this LG deal sound like anything substantial? Or should I sell my stock?

Am I crazy to think the market is destined to tank hard in 2021?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 08:13 AM PST

    My reasoning for this:

-every other major financial calamity has been reflected negatively in the market ... eventually

-rent forgiveness, eviction moratorium both expiring

    -unemployment through the roof

-pandemic related effects on businesses (lockdowns, lack of customers, less customer buying power, etc)

-relations with China (source for a lot of U.S production and trade) at all time low

-A recession at best, depression at worst

    Questions about investing

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 07:14 AM PST

I'm 18 and investing for the first time. I have a Schwab account. I'd love to get some tips from you guys.

So far I've invested about $1000 between VTI, CRM, DAL, GTBIF, CRON, APHA, and CRLBF. I can afford to hold onto these long term. Also I'm considering selling the delta and the cannabis stocks and instead investing in a travel etf and a cannabis etf. Does that seem like a wise idea? Maybe the travel etf can have positions in Disney and several airlines. Also I'd like to pick up another share of VTI because I only have one, but I'm not sure if it's a good time.

What percentage of my overall wealth should be in the stock market at my age?

    Hey Guys,

    Basically title.

I'd like to keep my savings in stocks, and I'd like to invest my first 500$ asap. I was thinking of buying tesla stocks for starters. I don't expect much of a profit off of them. My goal is to save up until February so I can rent another apartment. In numbers this means 400-600 USD/month for stocks. Where should I begin?

Thanks for the answers in advance!

    1. What platform do people recommend for beginners? What is the general consensus about Robinhood?
    2. Any tips for beginners or lessons maybe you learned the hard way would be nice.

Thanks a lot, people in this community are very nice, which kind of surprised me. Generally the internet can be a cruel place.
