My car got hit with cement

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:27 PM PST

    First timer here

I was involved in a unique accident you can say. I was waiting on a red light and then a cement pump exploded. Cement got all over my car's side looked pretty bad I'd say also sounded pretty bad . Got out the car and they assured me not to worry that they'll cover the cost for the damages. I went to my local body shop to get an estimate ( came out to be $12,000) which I sent to them the next day, they called me saying that I'm bullshitting with the total cost. In my mind I really didn't think so since I've payed 300$ for a bumper fix and respray once , assuming the whole side needed a respray. The estimate included dent fixes (minor ) respray , detailing , and new brakes and rotors. At this point they don't want to pay me what was quoted and are refusing to say how much they'll give me . Plus they kept saying they wanted "their guy " to do the repairs ..

    What can I do?

I don't have the best insurance but it's under full coverage and I'm still financing the car

Do I have to let my auto insurance carrier know that I drive DoorDash on the side?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 04:24 AM PST

Basically like the tile says. I do DoorDash on the side for supplemental income. One of the questions I get asked often is "won't your car insurance go up because of it?" I've heard people tell me that if ever a cop stopped me or if my insurance carrier (Progressive) asked to just tell them that I was picking up a to-go order for a friend. I'm not trying to do anything illegal. I'm in Texas if that matters.

Adding a dependent to health insurance that is not in the US yet

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 12:27 AM PST

Hello all, I have a question about a bit of a unique situation.

I just started a new job position with the 30-day enrollment ending soon. I have a wife and baby in another country that will be legally immigrating to the US this summer.

My question is should I add them as my dependent on my health insurance now? They have no SSN at the moment. Or could I add them once they come to the US? Legal immigration is a qualifying life event but I'm not sure if this applies to dependents as well.

    Thank you!

    Edit - in Arizona

My AWD vehicle was improperly towed damaging a drivetrain component. Insurance refuses to cover it. What do I do? USA

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 11:05 PM PST

2017 Jeep Compass. Dealership has made repairs and now says I have to pay out of pocket. Insurance refuses to pay because dealership refuses to definitively say the damage was caused by improper towing. I even have video of the improper tow and the proper method of towing in my owner's manual. I guess those two are enough to prove fault. What can I do to either convince my insurance to pay? Is there nothing left but to attempt to seek reimbursement from the towing company? North Carolina is the state.

Need help on stolen, recovered scenario.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:29 PM PST

I have been agonizing over this scenario and need some guidance. Anyone please hell appreciated

Car: A 2011 altima with 110k miles on it, already in an accident once with damage on front panels. State NJ

Car was stolen, Recovered within 2 weeks, Had additional damage in 2 spots,

Insurance considered it totaled We were paid out $5500 for the car We kept thr car and got it fixed for $1500 from a chop shop

We continued to drive it for 3 years while insured with the same insurer, so that was not the problem.

We now have a new car and want to now sell this car for whatever it is worth at this point. The car fax is confusing, it reads as the following

Car stolen, Car paid out due to theft loss, Car recovered with damage,

Which is not how it happened, it was recovered and marked as totaled due to the damage.

Questions Is this a totaled car? I am trying to unload it to a cash for cars type place and I am getting anywhere from: no value due to total, to $1500. I want to be informed as I negotiate with these guys.

    Thanks so much in advance.

Minor scrape, Pay out of pocket

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 05:39 PM PST

    Hello,

I had someone scrape my car as they tried to pull in behind me, a very minor scratch on the rear bumper. They were apologetic as they were just trying to merge real close in.

I went and got 3 quotes, with the lowest being ~900 dollars and they are ok with paying for the repairs out of pocket. Obviously no injuries to me, and I wouldn't typically even get it repaired except for that it is a leased vehicle.

Anything I should know? Can they pay the body shop directly that way they have proof of receipts and what not?

As the damages are so low, I would honestly not want to run them through the insurance process as long as they don't play any games, being in California they could see their rates climb way more than the damages as it was a young driver and someone did the same for me when I made a mistake when young.

Thoughts? I've made it clear that the actual price could be higher than the estimate if there is additional damage, although the 3 people who quoted it out don't think there is a likelihood this is the case.

I hit a lady’s bumper and caused $451.77 of damage to it. How much will my insurance go up if she takes it through the insurance?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 05:38 PM PST

I hit this lady's bumper a week ago and she said she was gonna go through the insurance if I don't pay her $800 to cover the damage, rental, and time she spent going through dealing with it. I caused about $450 worth of damage to it. How much will my insurance go up if she goes through it?

Question about adding someone to my policy.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:24 AM PST

My fiancé and I live together. Last night he was on the phone with his insurance company bc his rates just skyrocketed (I think they found out about a ticket he got a couple of years ago).

We both have the same insurance company (the lizard one) and my rates are super low.

He mentioned to the woman on the phone that we lived together and she said that if we reside in the same house that we have to be listed on each other's policies no matter what. She said even if we were just roommates and weren't involved romantically that would be the case.

Is that true? And if it is, will adding him to my policy completely jack my rates up? And how long do tickets stay on there so we can know when to expect it to go down?

Edit to add: he called his insurance company again today and asked them what infractions they had on his record to find out how long it would be there and they just told him that is his rates and there is nothing on his record.

I also forgot to add, he just changed his policy from a policy in NC to the state of GA. He moved down here a while ago but forgot to change his policy. This all started when we went to renew his tags and he discovered his policy was still in NC. So he called them to update his policy and his rates went from $141/month to $234 a month and they keep saying "well GA has higher rates than NC does". That doesn't seem right.

Motorcycle damaged in moving truck during move. Comp on the motorcycle or renters insurance as it was part of the move?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:12 PM PST

I do not want to start a claim on the wrong policy. I have a motorcycle that was damaged during the move. A strap came lose luckily the kickstand was left down so that took the brunt of the damage and was bent also a mirror was broken off. I think its a comp claim on the motorcycle's policy but I am not 100% sure. The Motorcycles policy is a Missouri and the renters policy was a Texas policy both in the US at the time of the move. I appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Should I ask an insurance agent about options after an accident?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:38 PM PST

If I get into an at-fault accident, and I go get a quote for repair (say it's a $3000 fix), can I just talk to my insurance agent and ask them how much my rate will go up if I go through them vs out of pocket? Are there any 'gotchas' to be aware of?

Edit: Seattle area if that matters

What’s the easiest way to shop around homeowners insurance?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:56 PM PST

Bought my house almost a year ago and just got a notification that our homeowners insurance is going up significantly due to something with my roof that they didn't catch in the initial inspection. I usually shop around car insurance every year by just providing 4-5 companies with the coverage I currently have and asking them to match it. Is there a way to do something similar with homeowners insurance?

Any way to do it in conjunction with car insurance since mine is currently bundled ?

Who do you call for a claim?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:28 PM PST

So this is probably a dumb question but I have no idea. So I just got insurance for the first time. I used an independent agent who got me a policy with local major company.

It was my understanding that I would call my agent if I had any claims but I when I got a "welcome package" from the actual insurance company it had a magnet with the insurance company's phone number. (Saying call for claims.)

It was my understanding that I would always be talking to my agent. Someone that I would develop a business relationship with as my coverage needs change.

    Did I misunderstand?

Surety bond for probate - how to find a cheap one?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 03:09 PM PST

Can you recommend a good way to find a cost-effective surety bond provider for probate that the court requires when there is no will?

I've heard going local is good, but the prices are not transparent and it seems the choice is between sketchy national websites like surebondsdirect.com, national companies from government lists and local insurance agent name locator tools that are overwhelming in volume, and I don't know how to proceed.

    Time to drop collision coverage?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:26 PM PST

Trying to decide if I should drop my collision coverage.

Fully paid for 2010 Subaru Impreza wagon, mechanically very good condition. Normal cosmetic wear and tear. 165k miles.

Private seller value $3k-$5k. Would sell for the higher end of that range in my area in California.

Current annual premium is $1,500. If I drop collision, the premium goes down to $960.

I assume I will be buying a newer car in 2-3 years. Saving money to hopefully buy in cash.

I did the math for different scenarios and looked at different advice- half says drop it, half says keep it. Help me decide!

Is a car insurance company allowed to kick someone out of their insurance policy?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:56 PM PST

I got into a fenderbender last June. I told Geico that I was doing a DoorDash delivery (bad mistake), and they said that they cannot cover for commercial drives. They also said that they wouldn't be covering my insurance anymore because I do commercial deliveries, so they are basically removing me from their policy. Is that legal? Of course they told me that they are allowed to kick anyone out if they are using the car for services that they cannot cover. But that seems extremely fishy.

Is Geico telling me a bunch of bs? Because I was on a family plan with Geico, and now they want to remove me. And I was only paying $100 a month. Now I have State Farm, and I am paying $269 a month. So is Geico in the right here?? Am I going through a huge hassle when I don't need to?

Edit: I live in San Antonio, TX if that makes a difference.

Has anyone use Xcel Solutions for licensing? (FL 2-15 insurance)

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:45 PM PST

Hello r/insurance! Just wanted to get your opinion on this program. I am nearing my test date very soon and I am looking forward to take my state exam. However, I want to make sure that I am taking the appropriate study measures to improve my odds of passing. I heard from a buddy of mine that the state exam simulator in this specific program has nearly the same exact questions as the actual state exam. Can anyone provide insight on this if this is accurate? Or any tips and tricks to help me pass? Looking forward to all responses!

(Ga) Passed my the property and casualty licensing exam but didn't finish the pre-licensing course?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 12:24 PM PST

As the title states, I'm in Georgia and just passed the property and casualty exam but didn't bother to finish the pre-licensing course.

My boss did pay for an online pre-licensing course but made it seem like it was just study material but I found the format annoying so I used other resources I found on the internet.

I'm now seeing on a lot of websites and hearing from friends that you need to complete the 40 hour pre-licensing course in order to actually get your license. I asked my boss and he said if they let me take the exam I should be fine, but I just want to make sure.

Tldr; Do I need to go back and finish the prelicensing course?

Converter stolen from RV while at Repair Shop for Accident

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:08 PM PST

My RV was parked at a RV body repair facility for a separate accident that occurred late summer/early fall. This morning 12-30-20, I was notified that my RV was one of 4 vehicles who had fallen victim to a catalytic converter thief while parked at the repair facility waiting on repairs. They suggested I contact my insurance company, who suggested they contact their insurance company. Has anyone been through this before? (I've searched but couldn't find anything involving converter theft)

Why is it so hard to get ahold of a claims representative?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 03:33 PM PST

    IL, US

I was in an accident where my car was totaled on 12/17. Everything had been going pretty smoothly until just a few days ago.

My car was not paid off so i needed to sign power of attorney papers. Car was going to be paid off by insurance thankfully since it was fully covered.

Got the packet in the mail Monday and my claims rep had asked me to contact her in order to ensure that everything was filled out properly.

It's now Wednesday and I've tried calling, emailing, messaging through the app and just about everything to get ahold of not only my claims representative, but anyone who can answer questions for me. I've been out of a car for two weeks now and i'm not able to put a down payment on a new one without proof that my now totaled car is going to be paid off.

this is the most frustrating thing i've ever had to deal with.

tldr: been out of a car for two weeks, can't get a new one until my claim is complete, can't get ahold of my claims rep. wtf do i do?

Rear ended. At Fault driver's insurance putting up a battle

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 11:28 AM PST

I got rear ended at the beginning of November and stupidly didn't get the cops involved. The other driver's insurance is putting up a fight to fully reimburse the full amount of my repair/rental. Is there anything I can do at this point? I contacted my insurance company to get more information and she told me they're still battling and it may go to "arbitration"... Does anyone know if it goes to arbitration how likely it would be that I get the full amount from the other insurance?

Edit: I'm in Maine Also, The at fault driver's insurance is disputing some scans that the mechanic performed on the car. They're also disputing the length of the rental

    Thank you

MetLife insurance policy, unclaimed money and estate/probate

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:49 PM PST

Hello, my fiancees grandmother had a life insurance policy with MetLife. She passed about two years ago, and a claim was initiated, and some of the beneficiaries claimed their money. My fiancees mother was a beneficiary but she apparently never claimed the money before she too passed last weekend. We found a letter in her things saying that if she didn't claim the money, it would be turned over the the state of California as unclaimed funds. Complicating matters is that we are located in Oregon, and she didn't have any kind of final legal arrangements so we are going through probate. The lawyer advised that if the funds do go to California, we would have to go through probate there as well at additional expense. So we want to see what we can do to avoid that. My fiancee called and the very unhelpful person on the phone wouldn't tell her anything because she's not authorized, nor tell her what process to use to get the issue resolved. Can anyone point us at someplace we can call where we can get more help? Or what specifically we should ask for? Other advice? We will have the estate established in a couple of days. Thank you!

    Diminished Value Claim Question (MD)

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:10 AM PST

Back in January, I was rear ended on the highway. My car was only 6 months old at the time, no prior accidents, low mileage, and in excellent condition (no scratches, no dents, no rips in the interior, etc.) The other drive was at fault, however they were driving on a suspended license and did not have insurance. Officer came to the scene of the accident, submitted a report, etc.

Since the other driver did not have insurance, I submitted a claim through my insurance company as I have uninsured driver's coverage. I paid a $250 deductible and they paid all of the costs to repair + lost wages + medical bills. They are still trying to reclaim my deductible, but I doubt that will happen.

I was recently looking into possibly selling my car, and after doing a bit of research via KBB/NADA/etc. I noticed how much the value had diminished from the one not at fault accident. I have not gone to get an official appraisal, but plan to do so.

I called my insurance company and asked to open a diminished value claim (or rather "add on" since my original claim is still open.) I sent them all of the necessary info/pictures and the lady called me today to say that she would get back to me next week once she had reviewed all of the info.

My question is: My renewal for my current insurance company is due in January. I decided to switch auto insurance companies because I would end up saving a lot of money. Since I am switching companies, will they end up denying my claim solely based on the fact that I'm no longer insured with them? Or no, because the accident happened while I was still insured with them and the statute of limitation on diminished value claims in Maryland is 3 years?

(Obviously, I know they may deny the claim or offer me to close to nothing for other reasons, but specially asking about the reason about.)
