Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:38 PM PST This happened to my mother last week. Someone developer bought acres of land across from my mother property and clear cut it. It was all forest. Since the forest acted like a natural wind buffer the trees on my mom's property did not grow dealing with high winds. Well, the first windstorm to hit sent trees into her house. Power is out, no water, limbs poking through the roof and ceiling into the house. Back door can't be shut. Ceiling is falling in. You can't live there. Thing is, she can't get anyone to do anything either. The company to remove the trees haven't heard anything from the insurance and don't know where to send their bid/quote. My mom hasn't heard anything from the claims person since they sent out someone to take pictures on Wednesday. Had to pay for hotel lodgings that are covered by her insurance out of pocket, she is in a holding pattern and bleeding cash because of it. Unable to bring presents for her grandkids cause they are trapped in some wreckage. Is there anything she can do to force the insurance company to contact her and give an update? The company I believe is Global Insurance. [link] [comments] |

Whiplash caused longterm headaches/depression? Posted: 29 Dec 2020 01:01 AM PST So, I get headaches 6 months after accident and I was put on medication. I was wondering if I can see a naturopath because I was depressed and my therapist thinks its hormonal changes due to the medication. Will I be reimbursed and how do I know if I was or not? How do I know if I get back 2,000 it wasn't that to begin with? [link] [comments] |

Small Business vs Large Business Cost Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:30 PM PST Why do many small businesses not offer health insurance while many large businesses do? Do large businesses receive a big discount that allows them to offer health insurance more easily or is it strictly because they are required to? [link] [comments] |
At fault driver with no car insurance won’t even pay deductible, what should I do? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:50 AM PST I got into a car accident 1 week ago and it was the other drivers fault. I had witnesses and a case report saying it's her fault. The damages were worth $3,000 and I asked her to pay my deductible which was $500 and she said I can pay it Sunday. Sunday rolls around and I give a final letter of demand to pay up or I will pursue her in small court claims. She told me not to talk to her and that only my attorney should text her. What should I do if she won't even pay my deductible? I forgot to add I don't have collision insurance and only have uninsured motorist. [link] [comments] |
Hydroplaned on the freeway and struck another vehicle. My insurance lapses. What are my options. Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:28 AM PST As the title stated. My insurance lapsed. I got into an accident. Chp did show up and a report is going to be filed. What are my options. Can I somehow get my insurance reinstated and be upfront about the accident? How can I go about this situation? Please I really need some good advice. Because of covid I haven't been able to keep up with insurance payments which is why i let it lapse. But that's about to change now though luckily with a little extra income coming in. Please help me. I'm desperate. I used to have insurance with Mercury. Just in a car wreck. Who's at fault? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:07 PM PST Hi everyone, I'm from Georgia. I was driving eastbound down the road on the way to a new restaurant. The other involved car was behind me and we were both in the rightmost lane. Because this is a new restaurant for me I wasn't super familiar and nearly passed the turn in to the shopping center causing me to take a wide right turn. She made a sharp right turn into the shopping center as well then turned left and clipped the right back end of my car with her left front end. We called the police and exchanged all the necessary information. The cop said he wasn't sure who was at fault and didn't write any tickets. This is the first car wreck I have been in and anxious about the outcome. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:10 AM PST So my insurance company denied my claim for prior inconsistencies in statements and now are asking to go to personal subrogation. The basis was I was burgled earlier this year and a vast majority of things were taken. I filed the claim and then a receipt for some items that I claimed was called into question. Certain companies take trades and I traded in some very old items towards some new items. Thought nothing of it. This company made the determination that it was the same item that I filed a claim for in the early 2000's. I disagreed that it was the same exact piece as mine wasn't a one of one. I purchased a like replacements for said items. So they denied my claim for this unfortunate event AND are asking for money for that claim. I disagree but don't know my options. They also said they have to report the denied claim to my state dept of insurance as required by law but aren't pursuing any charges or legal actions. I want to start out by saying I get the convolution of this be here are my questions
Edit: Zero dollars were paid out on this claim in 2020. A little over a grand was paid out early 2000s Located in North Carolina Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Long term care (rehab) facility refusing patient who is paying privately Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:51 PM PST My stepmother is paralyzed and just before she used up her 100 Medicare days in a rehab facility she went back to the hospital. She is ready to go back to the rehab. The rehab facility tried to get my dad to pay a lot of money to (I think fraudulently) apply for Medi-cal, but he has too many assets, and won't qualify until he spends down his assets on her care. The rehab "talked to corporate" but decided she can't go there. The problem is he has Kaiser insurance so I don't think she can go to a nonaffiliated rehab. This all sounds so shady to me. I guess his money's not green enough or something. Can someone explain to me what is going on and what recourse he might have to get her into a rehab facility? Kaiser is keeping her in the hospital for now. Maybe it's really their problem? They are acting like they want to send her home even tho she is paralyzed, on a vent, stomach tube, and my dad is 75 and not able to handle that on his own. California, USA [link] [comments] |
Insurance wants to raise policy. Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:54 PM PST So I have an auto insurance policy with Geico and one of my sons is included in that policy. My other son has a license but doesn't own any of the vehicles and doesn't really drive any of the cars. The insurance claims he must be added to the insurance. Is this something they can enforce despite me fighting it ? They claim they would need proof that he has another insurance policy or that he doesn't have a license. If I can't do anything about them raising the insurance policy, would him getting non-owners insurance with another company be cheaper? What are my options ? I don't want to pay more for my son who doesn't drives the vehicles. I am located in USA Queens NY [link] [comments] |

Defensive driving course discount Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:41 PM PST My wife and I completed a defensive driving course on 12/20. I currently have Progressive but I'm switching back to GEICO on 1/20. GEICO was really easy to submit documents to. They adjusted the rate accordingly and I have a credit since I pay in full. Progressive on the other hand has been a pain. I had to email and fax documents to them. Then I had to hound them today I see they accepted the documents. However no such discount was applied. I called customer service to inquire as to why I didn't receive the discount and what I can gather is since I didn't renew the policy with them their "system won't allow it." Does this make sense to anyone? State is NJ [link] [comments] |
Manufacturer Copay Cards, How They Find Out for Copay Accumulators Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:27 PM PST I bought a health plan off the exchange that had a copay for a specialty drug for 2020 but it was an expensive plan. I thought about getting a cheaper plan (about $2K for the year) for 2021 and letting the manufacturer copay card help to reach the max out of pocket early in the year. I know that insurance plans are doing the copay accumulator thing, so anything that was paid by the card might not count. However, to get a good and reliable answer from the insurance company is an exercise in futility. How will they know that you used the copay card? What if you don't use their pharmacy and some third party like CVS? It might be possible to pay for it first and then get reimbursed from the manufacturer, but that is an extra step and even more process and paperwork. Should I just stick to the more expensive plan for the piece of mind? [link] [comments] |
[Mass] Feeling scammed a bit with new employers health insurance options. Clarification needed. Posted: 28 Dec 2020 09:02 PM PST So I just got a job after a year of unemployment. Yay. The job was quick to brag about their paying 80% of health insurance costs. So I go in today to check out the options and am a bit disappointed. One option is 110 every pay period for HMO The other option.is 45$ a pay period for what is called Blue Select of Massachusetts. So this would be a great option, with my budget but the problem is in-network providers are only in massachusetts and I want to move to the northern border area of Rhode Island so I'd be within an hour (or closer) to Mass. This is fine for general doctor appointments and even specialist, as I would drive in. But my question is about the emergency room care. since absolutely nothing is covered out of network with this plan, but emergency visits: "emergency care out of network is 750$ a visit". Does that mean all care within that visit? Since the other blocks say testing and x-rays and everything are not covered out of network, I don't quite understand. If things are covered within that visit, I will definitely select this option as I can manage driving to appointments, but so don't want to have to be bleeding out from something and worry about my in-network hospital. Going into underwriting as a recent engineering graduate? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:11 PM PST I am a recent college graduate moving to NYC this month with my partner. I have an engineering background all the way through, graduating in May 2019 with my B.S. in chemical engineering and working as an engineer in oil and gas since. I did not enjoy working as an engineer very much, and honestly never enjoyed the coursework too much in school either. On the other hand, I have always had a strong interest in finance/business and have had several profitable side hustles in my life. Most notably during these past summer months I profited over 3 years of my engineering job salary by trading stocks when I was put on furlough. During this past year I've been reading a lot about markets, equities, and corporate finance as a whole. Doing so has confirmed my interest in potentially working in finance after my move. One of the careers that has caught my eye has been as an insurance underwriter. Job wise, the task of evaluating risk vs. reward appeals to my very analytical personality. It also seems to be one of the at least mid-tier finance jobs where they encourage candidates with any degree, finance-related or not, to apply. So can anyone please provide me some insight as to whether I should have a chance of landing an underwriter job at a large NYC company without going back to school? Do insurance companies and their hiring managers tend to look for candidates with the most fitting academic background or do they care more about having the right traits and skills when hiring? I graduated with a good GPA (3.5+) from a top 10 school nationally for undergrad, and am hoping that it at least displays my technical competency and makes me an intriguing candidate because of it. Signing up for Covered CA for the first time, I don't know my family's income. What can I do? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:48 PM PST Hi, I'm 28 and signing up for Covered California for the first time. I'm currently jobless due to COVID-19 like many others. Previously I was either under my parents' health insurance or I had a job that allowed me to sign up through their insurance. Obviously paying is going to be a struggle since I'm jobless. But I know that if I'm not on health insurance on California, I'll pay a fine. Someone suggested Covered California, but they'd ask for family income. I'm trying to get cheap/free/affordable health insurance since I don't have a stable income at the moment. I'm afraid of this health insurance slowly chipping me away financially since I don't see myself going to the hospital too often due to fear of COVID and no safe transportation options. I don't know my household's income. I don't have a healthy relationship with my household family, so it'll be difficult to get their income. Is there a way I can fill out the application without having their income? We're not rich, but I know that's not much to go off of in terms of applications. Am I screwed? [link] [comments] |
Why is my insurance so expensive? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:43 PM PST Why is my annual premium for a base model Honda Civic over $2,000? I don't have a car currently but every single car I look at leasing my insurance quote is like 50% more than my lease payment would be. This is insane. I'm a 24 year old man with no tickets in over 5 years and no accidents, period. I had a mustang GT for 2 years and my monthly payment for insurance was 450. My friend had an identical car and he was the same age with multiple speeding tickets and his insurance was 190 a month for HIS MUSTANG AND HIS HONDA. What's going on? Why do I have to pay so much? My driving record is perfect [link] [comments] |

Cash out whole life policy to purchase new one of same value with long term care rider? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 09:02 AM PST My insurance broker sold me a $200k whole life policy about 30 years ago. I'm 63 now and It now has a cash value of $100k. He wants me to cash it out and put the $100k into a new 200k whole life policy with a long term care rider (2 years / 300k benefit). I wouldn't have to pay any more premiums into the new policy. on the other hand, I could just keep the old policy and stop paying premiums but still have the 200k insurance. the new policy sounds good but i am not well informed on these issues. Thanks. I live in New York and my youngest kid is 18. Will likely retire at about 67. [link] [comments] |

Scam??? TL Thompson&Associates Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:50 PM PST I've gotten letters and calls from this group saying I owe money on a car wreck I was in a whole year ago and my license will be suspended if I don't pay on the balance. I rear ended someone but I recall on the police report the girl didn't have a license I don't believe? but they called and told me I owe $6000 and I have to pay a $500 down payment. Googled the phone number which said it was a scam and they get your information and say you owe money. I'm not sure what to do. I was going to ignore it but I got the letters in the mail. and then I googled it again and saw that some people did indeed get their license suspended [link] [comments] |
