Help!! Employer failed to add newborn to insurance after I sent in paperwork Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:28 PM PST Hi guys, first time poster here. I have health insurance through my job, a moderately large retail company. The insurance is blue cross blue shield, not sure if that's important. The insurance requires that a baby be added within 30 days of the birth. My daughter was born on October 12th, and I sent the required paperwork in on October 28th, as soon as I received her social security number. I followed up with an email to the benefits department of my company to make sure they received the paperwork. Fast forward to this past Friday, they have yet to add her, as my insurance is still showing coverage of employee and spouse only. After contacting the benefits department, they asked me to send a picture of the form I sent in October. I also provided the receipt of the faxed form. They have yet to get back to me but I'm assuming they will on Monday. My question: is it too late to add her, even though I provided the paperwork in time? It is clearly the company's mistake as I provided the paperwork well within 30 days of my daughter's birth. As far as i can tell, the benefits department is handled by a handful of employees, possibly only 3, and one of them failed to make this happen. Any responses or advice will be greatly appreciated! Edit: a comma. Edit again: I am in Florida [link] [comments] |
Question about cancelling my car insurance Posted: 07 Dec 2020 01:45 AM PST We are a family of 4 with 2 cars. One car is on my name and one car is on my sister's name. We are all insured under my sister's name as the coverage is under her name. I am leaving the country for 6 months. Does it make sense for them to remove me from the policy as the premium will go down if my name is removed. I have heard once I come back my premium will be higher since the insurance companies will see a lapse for my name. All advise is appreciated. Edit: I am in the state of Georgia. [link] [comments] |
Insurance backdating alternative in California Posted: 07 Dec 2020 12:11 AM PST My insurance was terminated when i finished my previous project but wasn't restarted by the employer by mistake once the new project started. I was told they can only reinstate it by backdating to the date coverage ended. I'm not happy with it as I'd be paying for the time I wasn't covered by it. Employer suggested taking a short term insurance and come back to the policy when it ends, but California don't allow short term overages per my understanding. I'm looking in coveredca.com and that seems to be the case. Do I have any other options here? [link] [comments] |
If I surrender my driver's license can the insurance company still force me to stay? Posted: 06 Dec 2020 11:37 PM PST About a year ago i had a little fender bender in my friends car the other car was slightly scratch and there was no damage to my friends car i tried offering to cover the damages out of pocket bc it was a minor scratch however the officer told me i could not do that, so as a result the claim had to be filed through my buddy's insurance i covered it ofc however his insurance forced me to be on it which was an additional $380 a month i dont drive much anymore and i was wondering, if i surrender my driver's licenses can the insurance company still force me to be on his insurance or do they have to drop me bc i legally could not drive anymore? Pregnancy, Short Term Disability Ins, and Paid Maternity Leave Posted: 06 Dec 2020 10:27 AM PST My wife and I are family planning and want to ensure we are financially protected from any potential pregnancy complications and maximize available benefits. Her work has a paid maternity leave benefit of 12 weeks through a short-term disability plan that is paid for by the company. The work provided plan with Lincoln Financial Group has a 1 week elimination period, after which provides 8 weeks of 100% salary and then after 60% for a total of 26 weeks if needed. Are there any other individual plans we could sign up for or steps we could take to further protect ourselves financially? If we can get an additional individual policy, can we claim both at the same time? Any insight and resources are much appreciated! Located in Indiana, United States [link] [comments] |
Homicide and Homeowners Insurance Posted: 06 Dec 2020 01:44 PM PST My family just found out about a horrible tragedy, in which one of our family members died at home, apparently by homicide. Even worse, that person's spouse appears to be the murderer. The police haven't given us much information because it's an ongoing investigation. But they did tell us the house would be "released" some time today and we could enter it. The police told us there is a potentially traumatizing scene inside. I've read about services that will clean up homicide scenes, and we'd like to do that rather than subject one of our family members to cleaning things themselves. I've also read those services can cost thousands of dollars, but that homeowners insurance usually covers it. I'd like to contact a clean-up company sooner than later, both because it's presumably hazardous to leave things as they are and also so family members can begin to enter and take care of pets, sort through personal items, etc. But we don't know who the victim had homeowners insurance through. (For obvious reasons, we aren't consulting the spouse for any such info, not that they're in a mental state to supply it.) If we paid for a cleaning service out-of-pocket, would there be any reasonable chance of being reimbursed? How quickly would we have to find all the policy info and file a claim? If anyone has helpful advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Happy to provide more info if needed. And sorry if this isn't the right place to ask a question like this. Edit: Sorry for neglecting location. This happened in California. We're in another state in the U.S., but we're in contact with family in CA. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2020 08:23 PM PST My husbands car was parked at my in-laws during this most recent storm. A tree limb from one of their trees fell and completely destroyed his windshield (like shattered into the car) and dented the crap out of his roof. Would this go through our auto insurance or their homeowners, location MA [link] [comments] |

Life Insurance Statement of Health Question Posted: 06 Dec 2020 07:17 PM PST I am going through the process of completing a Statement of Health to apply for life insurance. I had always been told by my parents that I have asthma and have always carried an albuterol inhaler (just incase). When completing the form I had to provide a date for the diagnosis, so I requested a copy of my medical history and I don't see that I was ever diagnosed with asthma. Also, I never saw a pulmonary specialist for an evaluation, but I did see an allergist. I don't have the results of the allergist visit. My question is, should I still list asthma as a condition and put a random date for the diagnosis or leave it off since I'm missing an official diagnosis? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Trying to get a job as an auto claims customer rep, please help me! Posted: 06 Dec 2020 11:43 AM PST Here's a timeline about my work school and history: Graduated with a BA in Economics Business Adm in 2019. Worked at a retail jewelry store for three years while in college. Upon graduation, I started a wholesale electronics business in June of 2019. I sourced local and national electronic devices from people/shops and grew it to a large business that unfortunately took a very heavy downfall due to covid, so I got a job in March 2020. Literally at the beginning of covid, I got a job working as a compliance specialist from March- August 2020, which I was told I wasn't a good fit for so I was let go. Ever since, I've been continuing to run my business and trying to build it back up while applying to jobs. Looking back, I realized my compliance job wasn't allowing me to communicate with people directly to genuinely make a difference in their life and make them feel like I could actually guide them through something that would result in them feeling like I made their day even slightly better. Things were very mundane and too slow. I'm fantastic on the phone, I don't shy away from Any type of negativity, I've been called every name in the book by angry clients and can work really well under pressure. I just don't want companies to deny my application because they see me running my LLC as a gap in my resume as I've been told before. How can I spin this positively in my favor, as I don't plan on putting the job I had in compliance for 6 months on my resume. I really think I can succeed at this auto claims job and actually bring my customer service skills to the table. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2020 06:07 PM PST My boyfriend drives a car that is registered under his parents name in Florida and has insurance under his parents policy as a driver of that car. We are getting ready to move to Georgia, how will this transition work. We have to keep it registered under his parents name due to the loan they have and we are hoping that we are able to continue using the insurance as we live in another state [link] [comments] |
[Canada]: Insurance on a vacant home after owner's death Posted: 06 Dec 2020 04:39 AM PST Hi folks - if anyone knowledgeable about insurance markets and practice in Canada has advice for me, I'd be most grateful. My mother died, recently and unexpectedly, at her home in the UK. She had a second home in Canada, which was insured as a summer/seasonal home with a local company for over 15 years. Because mum died unexpectedly, nothing was in order, and it took a few weeks to find out who she was insured by and contact them. During this period - between her death and their being notified - the insurance policy was renewed (she had arranged this a few weeks before she died). When we finally contacted the insurance company, the broker assured us that the policy could be transferred to the name of "Estate of [my mum]". A few days later we received an email asking us for copies of the death certificate and the will so that the policy could be cancelled. I telephoned to ask what was going on, and was told that the broker had made a mistake, and as that my mother's death had technically made the property 'vacant' rather than a 'seasonal home', the underwriter was no longer prepared to cover it. However, the broker said, they would not leave us hanging and would arrange for an alternative firm to provide a policy, and would stay on risk until the next monthly payment was due, which was 10 days later. Somewhat confusingly, they then emailed us a renewed policy made out to 'Estate of [my mum]', and good for 12 months. Over the next week this broker apparently applied for vacant home insurance on our behalf with 3 other companies, and was rejected by each. At the end of the month we received a notice that our policy has been cancelled, and there has been no further communication. I've reached out to another broker, and they have also apparently had their applications on our behalf turned down by at least one company. This new broker seems unfazed and says it is normal to make a number of applications before finding a willing underwriter. Neither broker has explained why a 'vacant' home is harder to insure over the winter than an empty seasonal/summer home. The home is in a rural area, but clearly visible from the road and a neighbours house, and that neighbour also has a key, visits the house every couple of days, and keeps the driveway ploughed and looking lived-in. All the utilities are winterised, so there's no risk of a random electrical fire or burst pipe. These are the same arrangements that have been in place for over 30 years. I have so many questions. But, to keep this simple and save your time: - does the difficulty in insuring the home sound normal to you? - do the actions of the original insurance company - which, frankly, seem unprofessional to me - sound normal? - what would you advise I do next? Again, many thanks for any advice you can offer. EDIT: Many thanks for the feedback and advice, much appreciated. Several people mentioned Premier Marine, and I'll contact them today. We've also found a UK form that will insure overseas properties, and will see how they compare. Again, very grateful for the comments, and apologies for not thanking each of you individually. Insurance fraud on “no stop sign street?” Posted: 06 Dec 2020 08:02 PM PST I live on a 4 way intersection street. My road is uphill and has no stop sign at the top, the other three have a sign that says "intersecting traffic does not stop" and are supposed to wait for the uphill road people (like me) go. They almost never do and I always have to blare the horn at them after stopping and letting them go. My question is, what if i just ran into them (would be their fault for not yielding) and collect BI? Speed are not that high there, it's in the suburbs. Not saying I'd do it, but Is it feasible? Edit: I live in KY [link] [comments] |
California resident, how much are you paying for auto insurance? Posted: 06 Dec 2020 04:03 PM PST I have no tickets. 1 car. It's a coupe. Paying almost $3k a year for full coverage. Ticket expired 3 years ago. So everything is clean. Yet my rate didn't drop after the ticket was "erased". I use to pay $950 a year! [link] [comments] |

Insurance for Capital on Exchange Posted: 06 Dec 2020 02:16 PM PST I'm looking to independently insure the capital I hold inside of an exchange platform (and related services). Since it's in the crypto space, there's no deposit insurance provided by the government like with the banks. So essentially I want to protect my balance in case the exchange goes under (defaults, hacks...). The capital is in a liquidity pool (see DeFi) hence why I want it to stay on the exchange and not on a crypto wallet for instance. What type of insurance policy should I be looking at in this case? What's available in the retail market for this? [link] [comments] |
Motorcycle accident payout question. Posted: 06 Dec 2020 05:15 AM PST A friend of mine was involved in a motorcycle accident recently. It was the other persons fault as the other party pulled out in front of the motorcycle. The other persons insurance adjuster wants to send a check to cover the totaled motorcycle. Can my friend accept that check now and still be able to collect for pain and suffering as well as any medical costs after their doctor visits to make sure they are ok? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2020 11:12 AM PST Hi, I'm a breast cancer patient and I've been on LTD for the past three years. My oncology team has continued to keep me out of work, because I have menopause, fibromyalgia, and osteoporosis as a result of cancer treatment. I'm only 38 years old, so to be in menopause at my age has caused a lot of issues (sleeplessness, memory loss, hot flashes, night sweats, etc), the most debilitating being my memory. I'm forgetful and have a hard time remembering words/phrases. I don't cook much anymore because I forget things on the stove, so my husband does most of the cooking. The osteoporosis causes bone pain, but I think the fibromyalgia causes most of the pain? I don't know really, I just know some days the pain is so bad all I can do is lie down and try not to move much. I just found out that Prudential closed my claim with no warning or notice. They received info from my oncologist regarding why he's keeping me out of work, but the rep on the phone said that based on my medical records, they decided there's no reason I can't work full time. She said I can appeal the decision, but I doubt I'll get paid this month if I do? It's all very frustrating because I know my body and my oncologist knows my body and yet, my claim has been closed and I'm not sure what I can do to ensure I get a payment this month. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Anyone else have Prudential LTD or STD? I'm in CA. [link] [comments] |
Will uninsured motorist coverage pay for a rental car while mine is in the shop? Posted: 06 Dec 2020 05:01 AM PST Got into an accident and was not at fault, but it's unclear if the other person has insurance. I do not have the rental car coverage on my policy, so I was wondering if my uninsured motorist coverage would pay the costs of my rental car while my car is in the shop. The state is NH. Posted: 06 Dec 2020 05:54 AM PST Hey! I'm new to this community and my first time posting. I recently was offered a job in insurance and need to take my test for my PNC license and wondered if anyone had suggestions on the best tools they used to study? I already have my Life and Health license and I used the site xceltesting.com to study and I found it pretty helpful but it is a bit expensive. I just wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions. Thank you in advance! Edit: I will be obtaining my license in the USA in the state of Indiana. [link] [comments] |
How to get accident off of MVR? Posted: 06 Dec 2020 08:46 AM PST My friend was driving my car and she was run off the road by a semi who kept going. This resulted in my car being totaled and the insurance company paying me the value of my car due to a total loss. At the time of accident, she didn't own a car or have car insurance. This happened back in November 2019. Now I'm trying to get a new auto insurance policy and the accident is coming up on my MVR even though I wasn't even driving the car. Is there anyway I can get this off of my record? Edit: I have a GA drivers license but the accident happened in AL [link] [comments] |
Appendectomy on Short Term Health Insurance Posted: 06 Dec 2020 08:38 AM PST In March of this year, I purchased 6-month short term health insurance plan from Pivot Health. I started grad school this fall and enrolled in the student health plan, so I just needed something to bridge the gap. I had purchased short term health insurance from Pivot Health before, although never needed to use it for anything the first time. In July of this year, I had an appendectomy that had a total bill of about $55k - thank god I got short-term health insurance, right?! Wrong. The insurance company is only paying a few thousand dollars. The hospital actually called me to tell me they were filing an appeal and that I should do the same. But as I look at the document in my account, I have a plan called "Companion Core 1k" and there is no stated out of pocket maximum (even though I'm sure I never would have purchased a plan without one) but it does say the following for coinsurance: "During a Coverage Period, the Company will pay 80% of the next $5,000 of Eligible Expenses after the Deductible, then 100% of Eligible Expenses to the Overall Maximum Limit." (which implies an out of pocket maximum of $2,000 - the $1,000 deductible and $1,000 coinsurance) In the fine print, it lists "Surgical Services" and says "Usual and Customary charges, not to exceed $2,500 per surgery and $5,000 per Coverage Period." When I search Companion Core 1k online, I find this document that lists a Coinsurance Maximum out of pocket of $1,000, although I'm not certain it's the same plan: https://enroll.pivothealth.com/stm-core-brochure/ So what are my options here? Should I file the appeal? Does the fine print allow them to not have to pay anything? EDIT: This plan was purchased in Nevada. [link] [comments] |
Tips for dealing with auto shop's insurance company Posted: 06 Dec 2020 08:37 AM PST Hello, I'm dealing with a case of a auto repair shop damaged my car massively. I took it in for an oil change but instead of draining my oil they drained my transmission fluid. Long story short my transmission seized up and needs to be totally replaced. After talking to the shop manager they admitted fault and I'm dealing with the insurance company. The adjuster called me briefly and mentioned that the car may be totaled; the cars tradein value is around 6k. I went through and added up everything that we expect to be reimbursed for (which includes 8.5 hours of lost wages due to missed worked, the cost of a trip to where the car currently is to clean it out). I figured out what the cost of replacing the car would be by doing an autotrader search within 50 miles of our house which gives me a replacement cost of around $11,500. I would also expect to be compensated for the $500 dollars in tires that we put on it but had put minimal miles on. The replacement of the transmission is $7,400. All we are looking for is to be made whole, and not end up in debt with a car we didn't plan on replacing for a couple more years. Any tips for how to handle this is? For reference the car is stuck in New Jersey and we live in Maryland. [link] [comments] |
