First time accident ! Need some advice.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 08:19 AM PST

Got into a wreck yesterday involving myself and someone who pulled out into the road from a stop sign. I slammed on my brakes but still managed to clip their rear driver side. I had just switched over to liability a few months ago (13 civic) cause it was over 175 dollars cheaper a month.

So basically im waiting on a police report. The at fault driver got a ticket and i received nothing. I managed to drive my car home but i have some questions:

Will repairs to my vehicle still be paid for? She was driving a new mercedes so im assuming she was fully covered.

Ive had to rent a vehicle for the week ($450!!!!!!). This was not covered by my insurance, all dumped right on my credit card. My claim rep said i MIGHT be able to get reimbursed for this. Why is this a might when it comes to a huge expense like that that i shouldnt even have had to get?

Im sorry if im rambling or didnt make sense at some parts. A lot of this doesnt make sense to me currently

Question about Personal Articles Floater / rider

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 05:35 PM PST

So I have Travelers insurance and have both a house insurance policy and a PAF specifically for my engagement ring. These are separate policies with separate numbers.

Stupid me managed to lose said engagement ring a few months ago so filed a claim. Due to mysterious loss. No idea where it is and haven't found it. They paid out fully for the claim.

My question is will a claim on a PAF, which is a separate policy from my house insurance, result in rate increases on my home insurance policy?

I have now purchased a replacement ring and am deciding on whether to just get a Jewelers Mutual Policy and cancel the PAF or update my PAF to reflect the new ring. Cost is pretty similar for both.

Moving to Texas, Medicaid requirements incomprehensible

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 03:47 PM PST

So I plan to move to Houston Texas, from NY, so I need people from Texas on Medicaid to answer this. Here in NY, PTSD, Panic Disorder, and ADHD all fall under the disability umbrella for getting Medicaid.

Are those considered disabilities for getting Medicaid in Texas as well? My research online seems to not be giving me any useful information.

    Ribo Exam

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:34 PM PST

Hey everyone! I'm just finishing up my IBAO prep course so I can write my RIBO exam. Has anyone else written it recently during the pandemic? Is it harder online than in person? Also what extra stuff should I be focussing on (like fault determination rules, etc)? Any guidance would be appreciated as I'm right about to finish this course and start studying!

Debris hit my car. Company responses rejected the claim. Should I go to my insurance company?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 05:15 PM PST

    Hello all,

Recently I was driving home from work, I was on the freeway and all of a sudden a piece of plywood from the work truck in front of me flew out of the bed and struck my car. I was not able to avoid the piece of wood. I attempted to flag down the driver to pull over, but he did not pay any attention. I did get the license plate number. I actually work alongside the construction company that was responsible (the same truck was at my work the next day). I immediately took pictures of the damages to my car, went to an estimator, and the next day I took pictures of the bed of the work truck that caused the incident. I then reached out to the office of the company and they directed me to who was in charge of claims, they had me fill out a claims report and any additional information. After a few days, they had informed me that they were denying my claim due to a "lack of evidence", fortunately I had other means of evidence and presented them, but they still rejected my claim.

I want to know if I could/should reach out to my insurance about this incident?

I don't feel that the way the company handled my claim was professional at all and the fact that they're not holding any accountability is not okay, they are a big construction company in my area.

How long does an insurance cancellation stay on your record?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 04:51 PM PST

I'm from Ontario Canada and was just curious, how long does an insurance cancellation stay on your record? I tried to search and couldn't find any info about this. I missed a couple payments with my insurance provider and they cancelled me.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 04:12 AM PST

I was in an accident and was not at fault and had insurance. Liability. But had insurance. The other driver did not have insurance & is from Phoenix City, Alabama. I'm from GA & the accident happened in GA, by the way. I didn't have uninsured motorist coverage or anything BUT liability. I had my car for about a month and got it from a buy here pay here. It's totaled. WHAT DO I DO?! Am I screwed or what??

Clinic asking for my family members' income ???

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:58 PM PST

My coworker needs to go to physical therapy for a hand injury. Her insurance won't cover the therapy because she hasn't her met her deductible.

She is wanting to know the cost of the therapy out of pocket, but the clinic is asking her for her income, her mother's income, and her brother's income information (she lives with them, and she helps out with some of the bills). My coworker is curious as to why the clinic needs this information, if they are NOT helping her pay for the therapy.

She would be paying for the therapy herself, why do they need her "housemates'" income information??

    Insurance premium question

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:06 PM PST

    Good day to everyone,

I am currently in process of getting a job in France. During the interview my employer mentioned that health insurance that is provided by the company covers 70% of the total medical bill.

Now, France is quite expensive and in case I need to get any emergency treatment or something the remaining 30% can add up to a large sum of money. So I am wondering if its possible for me to get another insurance out my pocket - that will cover that remaining 30%? Is it generally a thing people do? If not , what would be my next best bet?

Thank you in advance for your answers

    Question about new policy

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:02 PM PST

I'm graduating college this semester and am working on getting off of my parents' insurance policy and on to my own. I have two quotes: one just with liability, and one with liability and comprehensive. There's a $400 difference, and I'm not sure which one to go with.

My car is worth about $1200 on KBB, and I don't want to put much money in it for repairs. It runs fine, doesn't have any issues. The quote is for a $500 deductible, so if I go with comprehensive and do need to fix something, the total cost to me would be $900, which is nearly the cost of the car. With the car being worth this little, claiming a wreck on my insurance would probably have more of an impact on rates over the next three years than it's really worth.

I have enough in the bank for a crappy car, and I'm planning to purchase a newer car in the next three years or so.

What advice do you have for solely liability vs. liability and comprehensive? I'm in Alabama.

    Car insurance question CA

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:54 PM PST

Hello all. I am looking for a new car insurance provider. I am under my parents plan with Geico and paying too much. I have been in 1 at fault accident 2 years ago, so I know that the pricing is going to be high. I am 27 years old with a financed car. I got an online quote from esurance with a reasonable price. Same with progressive. Are they good companies? Almost every other company had a quote with the same amount i'm paying with geico.

Can I be enrolled in two health insurance plans?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:43 PM PST

I got laid off November 18th and as part of the package, my company enrolled me in Cobra with $6,000 for FSA expenses. I got married this weekend and my wife has to add me to their health insurance within 30 days, which would backdate and start me on her insurance December 1st. Can I be on the Cobra plan for a month, pay the premium, and just spend the $6K on FSA items for her and I? I have a call with the Cobra specialist tomorrow, so just trying to see if anyone else has gone through this.

    I'm based in NC

    Thanks

How does one go about getting info to an adjuster about an item I know next to nothing about?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 08:32 AM PST

I recently had a shed burn down. The shed itself wasn't insured but there were a few items inside of note that weren't terribly valuable in their current age/condition but I had to file a claim and make my deductible for another item anyway so I figured I'd submit them. My adjuster asked for details on said items but I'm struggling with a hot tub that was being stored in there. I don't really know anything about it other than it appeared to be a 4 person hot tub that came with the property. Looking for them online there are a metric shit ton of options/price points for a replacement unit. How should I handle this?

Girlfriend looking for short term health insurance with history of substance abuse.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 12:05 PM PST

My girlfriend is in-between income sources, and is looking to get short term health insurance for the next two months. So far everywhere she has looked has refused her because of her history with substance abuse. Does anyone know of any company that offers short term insurance to people with substance history? We don't want to lie on the form, but not having insurance for two months seems like too high of a risk.

    Life insurance post bariatric surgery

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 11:35 AM PST

Hi everyone. I had bariatric surgery (gastric sleeve) in August of 2019, so a year and a few months. I used to weigh about 315 lbs at my heaviest, and I'm hovering around 200 now. This is all in my medical history of course.

I received a great quote from LFG initially, but the underwriters came back now and the initial quote has doubled (plus a little more!) due to the weight loss. They said they had to add back in half my weight loss since I lost more than 20 lbs in a 12 month period.

I replied to the agent to ask for my options, but wanted to ask here as well - I'm 37, female, non-smoker/non-drinker, living (now) a very healthy lifestyle. How far back do these things go? Is this going to be remembered forever and always counted, or could I potentially apply in a year again and, assuming I can maintain my weight or hopefully continue to lose (that's the plan), would that show more stability? I'm worried about walking the line of age vs. health. I'm in excellent health otherwise - good blood tests, etc. I'm not sure of my best option or how to proceed. Technically I can afford the premium, but I really don't want to pay $1600/year forever if it could be $700 instead if I wait a year to reapply.

Not sure what other info is helpful here - this was with Lincoln Financial, $1M for 20 year term (planning for my family/loss of income, I have a 3 year old, etc.)

    Edit to add: Pennsylvania

Double, possibly triple overlaping Medicare Health Insurance ( Need help getting a refund of premiums)

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 06:51 AM PST

    Hey guys,

I have a client who, unknowingly, has been double paying " United Health Group" ( a subsidy of UHC) for about 15 years now. she started medicare in 04, had at the minimum 'United Health Group" (UHG) for 3 years. Then she enrolled in Texan Plus HMO MA and continued on paying UHG for 10 years.... When I called her here recently to roll her med supp, we both figured out why everything was so expensive, she currently has Part B, UHG at $260ish per month and a med supp at 160ish per month... and part D.. UHG has been quiter than a mouse not mentioning a peep as they continue to stick their hands in her bank account every month for the last decade and a half.

I've had her supplement for about 4-5 years, and before me she had had texas plus for 10 whole years. So she's been dually covered by UHG for a miniumum 14-15 years. She can't remember, I don't blame her, I probably wouldn't either, if she had anything additional too UHG when she started medicare A&B or not.

    Two issues:

    1. Not sure how to find out for sure if she was dually covered the first 3 years she was on Medicare or not... Not sure how to go about finding out. (Checking Medicare.gov, with her information, it only shows UHG covering here uninterupted sincd 2004, and then Texan plus kicking in around 2007. UHG is showing having started and is still pressing on today. UHG is actually listed twice as covering her uninterupted, she doesn't think it's employer coverage or anything like that, Medicare doesn't provide anything in the way of details on their site. Is there any way to find out for sure if she's due back premiums from 2004-2007, without just hoping UHG is going to be honest. Considering they've been hiding inthe dark for 15 years cashing checks, not mentioning a peep, I doubt they'll be helpful here.
    2. I know she's due atleast 15 years in back premiums from UHG, how do I go about helping her reccover all that money? Who do we. I, her. us? call? That's like 60 grand in premiums she's due, at the bare minimum... She's paying UHG like $260 a month today, never used them for a single claim, only used medicare and her current supplement. She JUST stopped the payment on UHG, but isn't sure where to start in recovering the premiums. She's tried called, we faxed in a request to recover her premiums and haven't recieved anything, no calls no emails, and that was coming up on 2 weeks ago. What do we do, to help this woman get her very much due, back premiums? I don't even know who to lean on.. It's not MA, but Medicare does list it as covering her but doesn't reference it as a Med supp or MA, frankly I don't know what "type" of coverage it is, it doesn't say, and she hasn't used it so she's not sure either. All she knows is she's paid them a fortune.

Any assistance in helping her would be greatly appreciated. This is so unforunate, she's been having a hard time getting by, and she thought she was "paying Medicare" this whole time.

I have Never seen a Medicare profile like the blow, and I've been doing this a tad over 10 years. Full time...Below is 1 single, finite profile.. I've edited her Medicare Part D plan ID away, and the number after her med supp with New Era that's referencing, i haven't the slightlest clue... It's not her policy number, so the sizemagraph reading in Malaysian on August 25th 1432... No freaking clue... I edited it just incase, so there's no risk of her privacy becoming jepordized.

WOOPSIE, I almost forgot the best stinkin part....

    [Inkedcrack-an-egg-LI.jpg](https://postimg.cc/tscdnKDP)

AND YES, BELOW NEW ERA, there lies UHG, LISTED DUALLY, just like above, dating back to 2004

Thank you very much for any insight you guys & Gals can assist me with.

Concerned about a lapse in insurance if I cancel after losing my car. (IL)

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 10:13 AM PST

I spoke with my auto insurance representative to cancel my auto insurance, but she brought up that if I have a lapse in insurance then I would be considered high risk.

The context is I don't even own the car anymore because I signed over the title to the tow yard to cover the storage costs after it was totaled in an accident. The insurance rep said that if I put it into storage mode I'd pay half as much each month and not have to worry about a lapse in insurance.

This raises a lot of questions for me.

    • Is this real? Is it really a lapse in insurance when you don't own a car?
    • Can I ask a friend to put my name on their policy to prevent this? (I'm borrowing their car atm)
    • Is storage mode really the cheapest option or is there something better for this situation?
    • Does lapse of insurance mean me as a person not having insurance or does it only follow the car? I.e. if I get a new car with a new policy does it matter?
    • They want to sell me 6 months of insurance. I don't imagine it will take me 6 months to get a new car. Is this the industry standard for this situation?
    • If I do sign up for 6 months and get a new car with a different policy would I have to pay for both the storage mode insurance and the new car's insurance?

I would just go along with it if I weren't really hurting for money right now. (I have to buy a new car!!) I can't afford a curve ball they conveniently left out, so I'm here asking for help.

Thanks in advance as I'm really lost.

My dentist did 2 crowns and later said insurance denied the claim so I have to pay?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 07:27 PM PST

I had some crowns put on by a previous dentist, then 2 years later when I went to a new dentist they told me the crowns were badly done and I had cavities under them so they had to do new crowns. They told me how much it would be with my insurance and I accepted and paid my share.A month or so later they now tell me the insurance denied the claim because I already had crowns done on those teeth within the past 5 years so they will not cover a replacement within that time. The dentist office now wants me to pay them, isn't it their fault for not checking if the work would be covered? I am just a patient who was told I needed the work done and how much it would cost, I don't have any knowledge of what the insurance will approve or deny, the dental office deals with insurance companies all the time, they should know what they are doing, isn't that their job?I think I signed some paper saying I am responsible for any charges not covered by insurance so am I screwed? I am very bad at confronting people and I don't know if I should just pay up or try to fight with the dentist office but I am not sure what to say...I am going in for a cleaning in 2 days and have to figure out what to do. Any help?
Edit: I am in California US

    Question on Insurance Coverage

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 09:54 AM PST

My truck was stolen, along with a number of personal effects. I filed under my auto policy (for the vehicle and all "attached" accessories) and I filed under my homeowners policy (for all my personal effects). Both policies are with the same insurance company (USAA).

Approximately $1100 of my personal effects were "denied" under the homeowners policy, because they were considered automotive parts/accessories. This included things like a tow strap, battery charger, multimeter, scanning tool, dash cam, trailer adapter, etc. - which weren't vehicle specific but were in my truck at the time it was stolen. The automative coverage didn't cover them because there was a limit of $250 for personal effects under that policy. Coincidentally, eliminating those items from my claim means I am below the deductible amount.

Is this a normal definition that insurance companies such as USAA follow, or is it worth pursuing reimbursement by escalating past my adjuster?

Insurance company asked to see home inspection report and is now commenting on the report's findings...

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 09:54 AM PST

is this typical? according to my inspector this is highly unusual - though he's obviously not the expert.

the insurance company requested the inspection report when they found out the house (in NY) was 100 years old and now they're asking me if/when i plan to make any repairs that were noted in said report (i.e. the roof is 15-20 years old - is a repair in my near-future plans, etc.).
