    Sales Tax

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 10:31 PM PST

Hello, I'm a new business owner in Florida and I'm trying to understand how and when to charge sales tax. I build, renovate, and repair swimming pools. I understand real property I pay tax up front and charge a bid rate to the customer w/ no tax.

What I'm getting confused about is. Let's say a portable hot tub pump has a dead short. It's old and needs replaced. For my understanding this would be considered tangible personal property and sales tax would need to be charged to the customer on labor and the part. I would not pay sales tax for the part.

If I sold a pool heater which is a new install is that still considered tangible? And do I charge tax on part&labor? Or is it considered a fixture? How do I charge tax on a fixture?

What if there is a pre existing heater? And I replace it with new. Do I charge tax on part and labor? Or is that considered a fixture still?

Do I charge sales tax on labor when installing a fixture? Or do I just charge sales tax on the fixture?

I might be over thinking it, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you 🙏🏼

Day1 : WIIFM( #1 mistake business make online)

    What's In It For Me

    (Me being your customers)

You see that sentence up there, absorb it.

I've read hundreds of sales pages, sales letter, product description, websites, ads, etc and most of the unsuccessful ones just talk about themselves. Things like - We are the best X, We are the best at Y, etc.

    {Now if you're a BIG BRAND with millions of dollars for advertising and marketing then fine... stop reading rn. You should also stop reading if you really are THE BEST at whatever you're doing( provided you show them the proof)}

But for the rest of us who can't do that , you need to understand this= "People Only Care About Themselves"

We are human beings and we all are very selfish. You,me,your customers, and every single person on this planet is the same. So use that selfishness to you advantage.

Let me show you another example:

Sales page A: - We are the best supplement company for women in California

    Vs

Sales page B: - Californian Woman! Let us steal your fat!

If you were a woman from California which one would you choose?

Now Ik the second one's a bit cheeky and might not sit well with some brands.

    But it WORKS.

    And that's what matters.

In a world where everyone is doing the same thing, learn to do something different.

    That's it for today

    Keep Smiling :)

PS: You can steal that headline btw, I won't/can't sue anyone for that 😂

    Brewery?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 05:40 PM PST

I'd like to start a brewery. Clearly ideally that would launch some time after the pandemic slows. I live in a smaller city with only one existing brewery in town. I recently flipped a home and came out with a decent chunk of change in the 50k~ range. From the research I've done I would likely need at least 200k bare minimum (if I leased a building) likely more after preparing the building properly. However I haven't delved into the business world much at this point and just kind of looking for some input; maybe advice, or someone to tell me I'm an idiot for thinking I could make it work with the limited funding I currently have lol. Anyway thanks for reading and any input you might have.

More info - currently employed full time bringing in ~50k gross. Over 50k in my 401k. Age 26. Basically perfect credit. Mortgage on a rental property and my primary residence right now. I have brewed and bottled on my own a handful of times with a triple Sanke keg all grain HERMS setup which have all turned out well. Ideally, I would likely be looking for support from someone with more experience in brewing particularly in a larger scale than what I've done.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:14 PM PST

I know that all big businesses have tons of old computers that they pay a lot to have recycled. I will take a lot for free. I am starting a business where I fix old computers for nonprofit. I would like a few for now, but then a lot if we succeed. Is anyone willing to save a few dollars?

    Naming my Farm enterprise!

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 11:51 AM PST

After farming for 5 years as an apprentice, I'm finally starting my own organic vegetable farm!

I have been researching ideal customers, brand image, etc. for several months, and am struggling with deciding on a name. We appreciate the caregiver brand archetype - a company dedicated to health and well-being, and supporting the community (think World Wildlife Fund, TOMS, Four Seasons). Our ideal customer includes some of the sage-archetype characteristics as well (Google, BBC, Yoda). We want to appeal to knowledgeable audiences, but those who have room to grow and connect with the farm in this process.

We want to be the informed, caregiving mentor for our customers. Families who like to be outdoors, but enjoy a sophisticated farm dinner as well.

We will be growing organic vegetables on 5-10 acres in Maine, offering a Summer & Winter CSA, small u-pick garden, an on site B&B, growing medicinal marijuana, and making hand-made knives and cutting boards, selling online and at farmers markets and events.

We're narrowing down the name between the following. Which would you be more likely to buy a Summer Veggie CSA or custom chefs knife from? Pick a couple if you would, thanks for the help!

Forgestone Farm (or stoneforge farm) Betsmark Farm Battendown Farm Fetterbush Farm Fiddlestone Farm First Harvest Farm Lindenwood Farm Mellowroot Farm Pepperberry Farm Pepperpatch Farm Solstead Farm Stokeseed Farm Stoneroot Farm Winnowroot Farm Selcouth Farm Coldcomfort Farm Belle Terre farm Seedsmith Farm Awlforge Farm (or other combos: snowforge, pineforge, etc.)

    And any suggestions are welcome!
