Anybody here make 160K or over? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 09:43 PM PST If so, how much experience do you have? What line of service? Are you in public or private? Any advice for someone looking to reach this milestone? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]
How to make connections as a new-hire during WFH? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:38 PM PST I'll be starting at the Big 4 come the first week in January. What is the best way to make connections? I know one person in the office I'll be working in (I may know more since I went to the state school here, but how will I be able to tell if I don't see these people face to face in the office), but that's about it. I'd like to make friends and connections to eventually end up working with these people during the day at one of their apartments/at a centralized location. You know, to just have a strong support system once I start and once I come back into the office. What is the best way to do this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:11 PM PST I officially graduated today with a BS in Accountancy. I start work the second week of january. Will have CPA license by end of may. I got a 4.0 in undergrad and was a "supplemental student instructor" for Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Accounting. I already miss making "lesson plans" and helping people out. I'm very much a people person. Prior internships in public have just not scratched that itch. I can do public, both of my prior internships offered me FT employment upon graduation, I just do not love it. I volunteered and did VITA/credit counselling/financial literacy classes at a local low income community center and I really enjoyed that as well. I am aware a PhD is a lot of research, but if the end goal is to teach is that the most viable path? I know a lot of the top programs are free + a stipend and have great placement rates. The salaries for teaching accounting PhDs from top universities are pretty good as well. Any PhD candidates here? Any and all guidance appreciated. [link] [comments]
How to know for sure if you have the required credits to sit for the cpa? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:51 PM PST Do you just have to apply and find out basically? I live in North Carolina and I'm not sure which classes I need to take to get the 30 credits of accounting (the guidelines are not extremely detailed) [link] [comments]
Does anyone here actually enjoy their job at big 4 (audit) Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:04 PM PST Forget exit opportunities, learning opportunities, or good benefits. Does anyone actually enjoy working at the big 4? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:44 PM PST Anyone have any products they'd recommend for WFH? Just finished school and will start working in a few weeks so have yet to experience remote work. I bought an additional monitor so I have more than just my work laptop, but other than that I'm out of ideas. [link] [comments]
Should I even tell the truth about health to managers? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:57 PM PST I returned to public, same firm. I've been struggling because of psychiatric stuff. Where I live this can get you fired. If a manager wants to get rid of me I'll have to explain myself because I need the job. "The truth is I haven't finished the tasks because I'm unwell, depressed, cut me some slack; I'm having a big episode right now because of christmas and new year". Begging for comprehension. I fucking hate that. Can't tell you I want or tried to off myself, can't even explain what's in my head with words; total lack of empathy in colleagues. In my firm no one likes solving issues with human resources. We manage situations internally. But you can't have a "crazy" audit senior. Or maybe I should reserve it until they try to fire me. "Just give me a little break. I will complete the tasks eventually". [link] [comments]
How to I send more effective emails? I'm failing at my emails. Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:44 PM PST I've been sending single recipient emails to members of staff at the CPA firm I work at regarding projects that only they are working and I have found that content is ignored. I've even had staff accountants say "I didn't read that part". I'm trying to figure out how I can be more effective. I try to be concise and provide bullet points or steps for work to be completed. But I've been finding that even things like "the PDFs of the property purchase documents are saved here (hyperlink) on the server" get over looked. I think I've got a big blind spot in the way a craft my emails. But I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. What are your tips for sending emails to staff accountants? Also what is a good response to a member of staff saying "I didn't read that part" (I don't want to be rude)? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:23 AM PST Basically had to update rather large list of financial data. Needed to do a lot of comparisons and formulas to get it done. However my gut feeling told me something so convoluted can't be right. There must be a better approach. Today I looked at a previous approach used by another colleague and tried it on my stuff. Not only did it only take 1 hour to do but it was also more accurate too. Most of the work didn't even need to be there and the new approach got the stuff I needed directly. Feel so pissed off. I wasted an entire week on something that only should have taken an hour to do. Thats an entire week of my life I'm not getting back. Its like why didn't my goddamn brain think, hey this is taking way too long, why not see if there is a better/smarter approach? As someone who's been praised for being a hardworker, I kinda hate being one. It probably means I'm missing a smarter and better approach. Seriously this was a rookie mistake I should not be making anymore. Yet I still am falling into bad habits. Maybe this mindset is what separates those who make it to the top and those who don't. Hte guys who make it know all the smart and effective tricks/shortcuts. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Dec 2020 08:58 PM PST Hey guys, I graduated this year and have been working corporate for a few years now. I have about 17 years of experience; however, I only added the last three positions. Can someone give me some advice and tips with what I've put together so far? I removed the cities, states, etc; however, it wouldn't be that hard to figure out where I reside. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Dec 2020 10:59 PM PST Please redirect me to a more appropriate subreddit if need be. I had a sugar daddy spend upwards of 70k on me this year. Some in gifts but most in cash. Many people on the sugar subreddit are saying that I do not need to report this money to the IRS, however I feel like I should because this is how my bills are paid. This sugar money is my income. I will be getting a security clearance within the next year and I want to be completely compliant with the tax law. What should I do? I don't think my SD is filing for a gift tax return btw [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:16 PM PST Hey guys I'm a bit confused as to how gambling winnings are taxed in Canada. I don't have a job right now due to Covid-19 but I've made over 20K the past couple months solely from sports betting. Anybody know how I fill out taxes for gambling earnings? I hear that gambling winnings aren't taxable in Canada but I want to get advice from a professional accountant. I only had a job for about 4 months this year before the whole thing starting getting out of control. The net income line on my tax return is a lot smaller than the amount I've made gambling. I want to definitely pay the proper taxes to avoid being audited and having to explain my banking transactions. Any advice or even experience helps! Thanks everyone. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:05 PM PST I noticed a significant amount of people think public accounting is the only route to go post-graduation. I also believe that schools do not make you aware of private accounting opportunities. DO NOT overlook private accounting when you are considering what you want to do. There are tons of solid opportunities that don't include burning through your 20s and not having a social life. [link] [comments] |
