*update I appreciate all the responses. Take care friends of Reddit

Thanks you in advance for taking the time to read this.

My car was parked and got rear ended by a usps driver. They made us pay out of pocket, and they had 6 months to pay us back once the claim was receive. USPS has their own insurance department and it's been a horrible experience.

I hired an appraiser to put together paperwork to get a diminished value check. The car was 1 month old, no plates even.

First claim, we sent it with the appraisal. They denied it, and we insisted we get paid. Second time around, we insisted/demanded 5k, and they offered 1k. We denied, and they turned around and denied our claim on a basis that we cannot reach an agreement.

They gave us two options, open another claim with them or file a lawsuit in federal court under tort law. Not too familiar with any of this.. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any guidance would be so helpful. I'm willing to go to court for this.

The body damage was 1600, but the value it lose in resale if we were to sell it was close to 5k per the appraiser.

Should we just accept it or fight for the full amount?

Should we file a new claim with usps or go straight to federal court and file a tort law? I'm not even sure if I'm understanding this law correctly.

[California] Medi-cal question. Made over 17k this year, Recently moved out of parents' house, questions about eligibility.

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:37 AM PST

I'm 23. My family signed me up for Medi-cal for 2020. I moved out Sept 2020 so I was considered dependent from Jan-Aug 2020.

The thing is for this year so far, with a mixture of W2 work and freelancing, I have made over the threshold of 17,609. One of my parents also got a higher paying job. That would mean all 4 of us would be well over the limit of 36,156.

When we sign up next year, would we be penalized for not reporting income change? Not sure if my parents did. Do I have to change doctors after changing insurance? I am currently seeing a specialist under medi-cal for digestive issues and my treatment/testing would probably extend well into next year and I'm so worried about what could happen, like being slapped with a massive bill or something.

Please help me understand this, thank you! <3

Hit a stationary object and only have liability insurance. Tell my insurance company or not?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 09:50 PM PST

Sun blinded me and i hit a stone wall very close to the road, front bumper is toast. This is my first accident ever and have no clue how to go about this? Everyone is telling me to just get it fixed and not tell the insurance company because they won't pay for anything anyway since i only have liability coverage. Is that true? What's my cheapest option?

    Edit: My state is Kentucky.

Truck bed cover fell off and got damaged

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 11:31 AM PST

Hi. A truck bed cover fell off my Ram truck on a busy highway due to high winds. Unfortunately another truck drove over it and the cover got damaged. It is worth around $1000. I have an auto insurance at Geico. Do you think I should call the insurance company about this? Would it be covered?

How frequently can I move my insurance policy between cars?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:51 PM PST

I have a bunch of old cars and just have one insurance policy that I swap between them. So when I'm going to drive one I'll just move the policy over and drive it for a couple days, then switch again when I want to drive another.

Could I get in any trouble with either the insurance company or the law for doing this? It seems too good to be true.

    Edit: I am in Tennessee

Retroactive cancellation of insurance and insane bill?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 06:56 PM PST

I just received a 12k bill for an MRI I had in June. At that time I was covered by my employer. My job and coverage ended in September. I just received bill for this and other services that were done in June. My cancellation notice stated that my insurance was cancelled retroactively all the way to the beginning of coverage which was in FEB. I'm not sure if that was some billing error or if the bill was directly the result of the retroactive cancellation.

Also, I opted cobra in october and paid all backdated dues and am currently active with the insurer again.

Do I have any recourse here? Why was it cancelled retroactively and who's fault was this? If I use any services again will I again be billed once I end COBRA?

    Any insight?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 06:50 PM PST

Hello posting here coz I just got into a lil accident and I wanna know what people here thing the result of it will be.. so I backed out of my garage at an apartment, and as I cleared the neighbors car I began to turn the wheel to do a three point turn and leave the complex...there happen to be another car parked behind my neighbors car and while turning the back corner of my car scrapped their car...here is where I wanna know what could happened.. I am not insured, I was running out to pickup some food two minutes from my place with dads gfs car. Also the spot where the other car was parked was an illegal parking spot, not allowed to have two cars parked outside of the garage in a line.... I talked to the guy awhile and tried to ask him if i could just pay for the damages without police involved...he called the police and that whole thing with the report went down....anybody know what the result of this could be?

    Rideshare Auto Coverage

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 11:44 AM PST

Hello, I deliver food part time for one of the meal delivery services. It offers occupational insurance while I am in possession of a delivery, but my personal auto policy would apply before and after, while I am "on the clock" so to speak. At the moment I do not have rideshare coverage but am looking into getting it after learning recently that I would not be covered under my personal policy while working.

My question is this: The service I work for will not cover damage to my car while on a delivery, only liability to others and medical, and it seems that the rideshare coverage add ons that I've looked at won't cover me while on a delivery at all, only before and after.

Any and all advice appreciated. Thank you.

Liberty Mutual Right Track. Will drive <150 in the next 90 days. Should or shouldn't we hook it up?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 05:38 PM PST

They sent this device to my GF. She has been dealing with the loss of her father and her vehicle doesn't move from the driveway. It does, but very rarely. Probably in the next 90 days it will have <150 miles put on it. Would we save by plugging it in? I understand that these devices are supposed to save the insured money depending on their driving habits. Because her vehicle is rarely driven will it benefit her?

What should I do about this?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 03:29 PM PST

So last week, my car was parked in front of my house and someone crashed into it. He claims to have fallen asleep at the wheel. Driving on a suspended license and no insurance. My insurance won't fix it because I only pay for liability, as that's all that's required in Arizona. I don't know much about cars but the damage looks to be pretty significant. I was told by my insurance company that I will need to pay out of pocket to fix it and then take the guy to court.

    Any advice?

    Auto insurance Geico or Travelers??

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 03:04 PM PST

Portland, OR: I have usaa which is high right now. The gf has Geico and she loves it. Especially with their app features and accident forgiveness. But Travelers will be $200/yr less with same coverage. If we do switch, then homeowners will also switch from progressive to Travelers.

    Stolen Car

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 10:13 AM PST

Our car was stolen out of our driveway this morning—we filed a police report and have opened a claim with Allstate, but won't hear much until Monday.

We have full coverage and no deductible, rental car coverage at $30/day for 30 days and the KBB on the car is $10k-$11k. Could we get by with just the other car? Uncomfortably, yes. Should we? I don't know.

I've handled just about everything but auto—how long should I expect the process to take, and what would the experts do/expect?

Anyone know if there a time limit to file a life insurance claim in Canada? an accidental death claim? and what statutes govern this?

Can I get an explanation of what subrogation is?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 12:13 PM PST

I am learning about it right now in relation to car insurance, and I "think" I kind of understand, but not sure. If any of you can, can you please provide not just a simplified description, but use it an a scenario, I feel like once I see how it is used in a scenario I might understand it better.

    Thank You

Cracked transmission case = totaled car, essentially... Can I upgrade insurance to cover?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 02:14 PM PST

So I currently live in Alberta and have basic liability insurance. While getting my oil changed today, I was advised that my bottom engine mount bracket has sheared off and that my transmission case is cracked (car still drives fine, for now). Dealer advised that repair would likely cost more than the car itself.

My question is can I upgrade my insurance to collision or comprehensive to have the repair or vehicle replacement covered?

Home Owner's and a house under contract to sell

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 06:17 AM PST

Hello, all. I have Traveler's insurance and live in Georgia. My husband and I were in the process of selling our house and we were under contract with a buyer with a close date of 12/1. Then a giant tree fell through the roof. Like huge.

The sale was terminated obviously, which I understand, but my husband and I had already moved out and are renting someplace else in anticipation of having to vacate our house for the sale. So two questions:

    1. Is there a precedent to pay for temporary living costs here? The adjustor told me that's typically only if we are residing in the house which we technically weren't when the tree fell, but if I have been paying for coverage for that shouldn't I get paid for it regardless? And even if not, our expectation was not to carry a mortgage and rent for multiple extra months while work is being completed and then putting it back on the market and waiting for a longer closing time etc.

    2. Since we were under contract is there any argument to get more money to get the work done quicker so it can get back on the market quicker? I'm not trying to get more cash for me or anything, I just have an available contractor who I have used before on this same house and trust, and I don't want to try to find other people to bid because of time and frankly unavailability in the area.

I just want to cover all my bases here since this is my first time dealing with this kind of thing and obviously it was unexpected. Thank you!
