How do you go about finding a team of lawyer(s) and accountant(s) to support your business?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:18 PM PST

For a brand new company, how do you find and choose a business lawyer and accountant to advise on various things like tax rules, license requirements, contracts, etc?

I have heard that Legalshield, Legalzoom, Rocket Lawyer are all too generic and aren't actually a relationship but a new lawyer every call. Is this true? Is it worth using them?

Searching online yields so many law firms and you can't find pricing until you talk to them but it feels so aimless to just pick one at random. Is there a known or proper way to pursue a good team to support me that have my best interests at heart?

Restaurant business and coronavirus....What do I do? Disclose covid to the public or not?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:35 PM PST

Today, we have had two positive coronavirus results. I closed right away.

Do I disclose the coronavirus to my customers? Or do I just keep mum and reopen when the time is right (negative tests, sanitizing, disinfecting)? Do I put up a statement on what we are doing?

I closed once in April due to just being scared of the peak that was coming. Back then my area was getting 5 or 6 cases a day. Now it's over 110 cases a day.

If it makes a difference, my area is conservative.

Thank you very much for any help!

PPP loan of $3125 only forgiven in amount of $2125 since I also received a $1000 EIDL grant. I thought the EIDL $1000 grant was fully forgiven and would not affect the PPP forgiveness?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:51 AM PST

Can anyone else shed light on this? I just want to make sure if it's right or not because I read everywhere that the $1k EIDL was a grant and wouldn't affect PPP.

In summary it's as if I was ONLY to receive a PPP fully forgiven and NOT an EIDL $1k grant since it appears they DON'T let you have both forgiven. (I know the normal EIDL further amounts would be a loan, but everyone knew the first $1k was a grant).

I need to create a page/website where workers can input data

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:28 PM PST

Ideally, I would have a link that I could hand out to employees, and the link would lead to a form where they can fill in text boxes with information according to what is asked for. Then, I would be able to extract the filled information to an excel file or something.

If anyone has any ideas on how to go about it I would be very grateful to hear them!

    Thank you

What kind of permit do I need? Located in Wisconisn USA.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:47 PM PST

So I just joined this sub a few days ago and I was looking for some help.

I am a teenager that has been making woodcrafts and selling them at craft fairs for a while. They are all made of wood from my own forest and then handmade. Things like wooden walking sticks with carvings in them, or small ornaments made out of dried milkweed. None of it would be consumed.

So on to my question, what kind of permit do I need to sell them at a shop/to a shop owner for them to sell? Where can I get this info?

If this is the wrong sub just lmk.

Thanks a lot for your help!

How do I classify my business?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:35 PM PST

It's really more of a hobby that I'm attempting to turn into a business with the encouragement of some co-workers. I'm an artist so a lot of what I do involves graphic design but I also provide print production and video production for social media(not really skilled enough to call myself TV ready I don't think). Do I need to have separate businesses for each of these ventures in order to be successful? Imagining trying to manage the accounts alone for multiple businesses seems daunting so I'd prefer to just offer everything through one company. What would I classify myself/my business as when I provide all of these services though?

Looking to talk to some busines people about their tech

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:50 AM PST

Hi! I hope this is allowed. I'm an IT professional with 10+ years of experience with varying levels and roles of seniority. Over the years, I've noticed something significant: most business people often have little idea of how good or bad their IT departments are or how to solve the issues they have. In addition, business and IT seem to be completely disconnected.

I'm looking to reach out and talk to people on the business side of things to understand their issues and help them understand their IT problems. In return for talking with me about your problems, I'll provide you with bespoke guidance and tips on how you can move forward that I'll email to you after the discussion.

I would love to get in contact with people from all stages of the business lifecycle:

    • Business people who want to know how to evaluate their IT
    • New business founders who are trying to figure out how to get their IT started
    • People with current major IT pains that they would like to know how to solve
    • People wanting to know how to evaluate their CTOs
    • People with massive employee churn in their IT department

I have nothing to sell; I'm just looking to find the best way to solve the business and IT problem.

So if you're interested in getting some free expert advice, please let me know.

How did you decide what business to start?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:35 PM PST

I attended post secondary school for awhile before dropping out. I had no interest in the degree I was pursuing and I just generally cannot stand school. I have been working full time as a waiter ever since, but I want to do my own thing. I want to start a new venture, but I have not figured out what industry/product/service I want to offer. So how did you decide what business to start ?

Physical product/food sellers - interested in collection website for your business?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:21 AM PST

First, I don't know if something like this exists. It's an idea I've had for a while and wanted to see if that's something business owners would be interested in.

A lot of big supermarkets allow to order their products online for collection. I was simply wondering if there's a need for a website that would allow you to enter your products/food and let people order it online for collection. The problem this would solve (for customers) is time waste related to having physically do the shopping yourself or waiting for the food to be prepared. It would be more convenient just to show up and collect.

I know there are still people who'd prefer to shop themselves but I cannot be the only person who thinks it's mostly waste of time if that can be done by the shop (even if that means a small fee)

Any comments (particularly about challenges related to this being used by businesses) are welcome.

Starting online clothing business. Do I create every single size right off the bat?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:47 PM PST

I am thinking about starting a small business selling t-shirts. I have thought of my niche, brand name, target audience, all that. I've sketched out 10 different designs that I want printed on 10 different shirts.

But... I don't know where to go from here. I know I'll need to create a website or Etsy account or something to display my shirts. But do I create all 10 designs, in all sizing (I'm thinking S, M, L, XL, and XXL)? That's like... 100 shirts. That I dont even know will sell. Or do I just create 10 shirts all in one size, and then if someone orders, I make that one in their specific size? I'm so new at all of this and could really use some advice. Thank you so much!

Filing for unemployment as an LLC

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:55 AM PST

My wife has an LLC that was hit pretty hard by COVID, she's operating at about 25% of her usual capacity. We have been able to do okay with just my income and what she makes, but as the year comes to an end we're starting to feel the pinch more and are interested in her filing for unemployment. Shes been pretty frustrated by the process so I'm trying to get any info I can to help her out.

I'm confused because when I read about filing for unemployment it sounds like she can apply since her income has been significantly reduced, but then the first question on the form is " Are you unemployed as a result of COVID-19 or have you exhausted your regular UI benefits?". Since she still has some income I interpret this as still employed. Am I missing something?

We live in CO if that effects anyone's response. Any help is appreciated.

I'm looking to move from Squarespace to Weebly or Wix. This is to setup the ecommerce for my travel photo business. For Weebly, I'd use Ecwid integration. For Wix, I'd use either Wix or Ecwid. I want to sell on Instagram, Facebook, and Etsy too. I need a multichannel solution.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:59 PM PST

Back in college, I ran travel photo business. I sold greeting cards, calendars, and prints of my work. I suspended that back in December, 2019 when I graduated college with a BBA in Management.

I'd like to sell fine art grade prints (up to 60 or 72 inches high depending on method), greeting cards, and wall calendars. The fine art printing will be from a business that supports automated fulfillment. I may do my own fulfillment for calendars and cards unless the demand is there to justify 3PL. I'd work like to work directly with clients for photo murals too.

I'm looking at selling on my website, Instagram, Facebook and Etsy. Moving away from Squarespace will be a given for many reasons. I ruled out Weebly's and Squarespace's ecommerce system because I want to use Sumup for payment processing. Sumup is lower cost than Square. It's also why I ruled out Shopify.

I'd like a solution that automatically syncs the sales from the website, Facebook shop, Instagram store, Etsy page, and occasional in person sales. I keep finding solutions that don't work with all four. Either they integrate with Etsy or Instagram but not both.

What's the best system for integrating and syncing all four sales channels? I'm asking because time and money are all limited. Should I use Ecwid or Wix for the online store? I need something cost effective. What are some other systems worth looking into?

    Thanks in advance.

Liquor store owners/retailers who sell alcohol, are delivery services worth it?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:30 PM PST

I'm helping a family member who owns a liquor stores with a new website, and they asked me about registering for delivery services (UberEATS does alcohol in my area now, as does Postmates, and there's Drizzly etc.)

Getting them set up doesn't seem challenging, but I'm having trouble figuring out if it's actually worth it. If they ran a restaurant, it seems more obvious, but as a store, we're both having trouble gauging whether or not it's worth the hassle.

Does anyone here operate a liquor store/store that sells alcohol and partner with delivery services? If so, would you mind sharing your experience, particularly in terms of volume and headache?

Small Late Night Business or a Business that doesn’t affect car parking?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:14 PM PST

I own a small salon and I'm looking to move next door to double the space. The current salon space will be unoccupied when I move and the landlord has offered 30% off the space should I also take this.

The main reason I would take it would be to control the parking which is pretty much at capacity with our salon and the restaurant next door. I have considered maybe a late night cafe 9pm-9am or maybe approaching a business such as a florist who would use one space for a delivery vehicle.

Any ideas for a 50m retail space?

New Unregistered Business Car Lease, Ontario, Canada

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:05 PM PST

    Hi,

I just recently started (2 months ago) a new business and would need to hand deliver my products to my customers. I have not registered the business as of yet, and don't plan on doing so for at least the next few months (on the recommendation of many people). My problem is that my current car is pretty shitty and unpredictable especially during this time of year with it being cold. It's under my parent's names since I don't own my own car. Is it a good idea to lease a car and document the mileage used for business purposes? In general, I can't really afford to buy a car over $3,000-$4000, and I'm not in the mood to have another shitty car honestly. I want one that looks decent driving up to a clients house, maybe with a built-in GPS. I know the maximum monthly lease amount that can be deducted is $800 + taxes, so what kind of SUVs would be the best options in terms of not too expensive to lease where I have to barely pay after the monthly deductible. (I'd be using it about 70% of the time for deliveries).

    Thanks in advance :)

How did you make ends meet while starting up?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:00 AM PST

Hey folks! Longtime lurker, first time poster. I'm in the process of starting a custom home office furniture brand. It's been challenging but rewarding, and I'm feeling confident in our launch plan.

Happy to follow up with more details, but what I'm interested in hearing about is how you paid the bills during those early business days? I lost my job earlier this year due to COVID which has paved the way for me to finally focus on entrepreneurial pursuits.

I've struggled to find a consistent side-gig to stanch the bleeding from my savings and was wondering if anyone here had experience or insight they could share.

A little about me: I'm an organized generalist with experience across all of the standard CRMs, office suites, project management platforms, and marketing tools. I'm also a pretty decent handyman and carpenter hobbyist. Before COVID I was managing a small community outreach team in NY for a renewable energy a startup.
