Insurance refusing to cover claim for weird reason Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:15 PM PST California - A DUI driver hit my parked car and badly damage my frontend. His insurance is now refusing to cover the incident, claiming that the driver is not answering their letters. Its also refusing to give me the name of the driver. The driver's name is in a police report that I cannot seem to obtain since I am now permanently abroad. Any advice? Thanks a lot guys.. Pretty impossible situation. [link] [comments] |
Best way to come to an agreed insured value for a project car? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:03 PM PST So I have a 2007 Proton Jumbuck which is getting an upgrade from its asthmatic petrol guzzling 1.5l 4 cylinder engine to a ripper 80kW Electric motor from a Nissan e-NV200 Now all up I'm into this $6,500 for the Nissan Van, $800 for the donor Jumbuck, and I expect it's going to cost around another $5-7,000 to finish the project. Netting me somewhere in the realm of $12,500-15,000 by the time I've passed all inspections, done all testing, fabrication, etc. Now my insurer has said "Yeah no worries, we could insure for agreed at $500,000 if you want, you'll just pay $10,000 a month for premiums and have a $20,000 excess" so I know I can name my value here. That's what you get when you have an insurance company for motoring enthusiasts. They "understand cars" though a lot less these days, I swear half the people in a call centre don't know how to tune a Stromberg or play with the points. They used to. But I was wondering, is it common practice to quantify man hours on a project car? I know at a shop there's around 250 hours of work all up at a shop to do this, so at $100/h thats $25,000 of labour at shop rates. So should I take my $12,500-15,000 and plop on an extra $10-15,000 in the agreed value just to make sure I'm covered in the event of a total loss here? I'm happy to film and keep logs of all the work I'm doing to quantify the hours worked on it for proof. Photos and such too. In fact I'm doing that for the forum I'm posting the build on. So that's half the job there. Anyways, what do you guys think in determining the value of a project car? I'm in QLD, Australia [link] [comments] |
Final Expenses at 79 for my mom Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:39 AM PST I'm ashamed to say that I've fooled around with this topic for more than 10 years. My mom will be 79 in January and has no life insurance, savings, 401k.... nothing, sad I know. I'm an only child in my 40s and it's been on my mind for the last 14 years. I've tried talking to her several times over the years but she brushes it off and says... bury me in the dirt. With that said... my mom is in the Caribbean and at the time this is one of the ways people were buried... in a casket in the dirt. That is no longer done and I do not have the means to bury her. I've seen Colonial Penn advertised over and over and it looks like this is my only option. Mom is healthy with no health problems, non- smoker, non drinker and as mentioned resides in the Caribbean in a US Territory - St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. I will pay for whatever I can get to give her a great send off. I know she'll have to sign and it may be an argument but I'm sure she'll sign it. My mother in law (also in St. Thomas) passed away last August and the casket by itself was 8,500 and that was at a discount. My eyes bulged out when I heard that., it was a rude awakening again for me. The only difference is my mother in law had a small savings specifically for her final expenses, she also had ten kids to help with the cost, it's just me. I currently reside in Alaska, I'm not sure if that is needed. Are there any options at this point? Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Damage to car at work, might be totaled! Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:06 AM PST I'm in NC, and last thursday we had awful winds from a hurricane/tropical storm off the coast. Winds were up to 30 mph. At work, I parked in my normal spot, in the low that many people park in, and went to work. Around lunch time I looked out the window only to see my Honda Civic had cinderblocks inside it, which had caused damage (fun!). I work in construction. Apparently, the masons were trying to keep sheets of insulation that were on a pallet from blowing away in the wind, so they put a few cinderblocks on top of it. I see why they may have thought this was logical, but instead of preventing the insulation from blowing away it instead had the insulation act as a sail to carry 5 cinderblocks to my car, a few feet away. My back window is broken, my sunroof is cracked, my front windshield has tiny cracks in it, and there is some tailgate damage and a few other dents/scratches. Body shops have quoted me anywhere from 5300-6700 in damage, which will almost certainly make my car (worth roughly 5000 on kbb) a total loss, despite the fact that it runs fine, and I could replace the windows only and not care about the dents. The masonry company's insurance agent first said that they were not responsible for the damage bcos the workers did their "due diligence" to prevent damage by placing the cinderblocks on the insulation but.... that sounds... wrong? considering my car would have no damage at all if they didn't place any blocks on the insulation. At worst, the masons would have had to chase down some insulation, which wouldn't have caused any damage even if it had hit every car in the lot. I have comprehensive coverage on this car but I just personally think that the company's insurance is responsible here, and I'm not sure what to make of their initial response. We filed a claim anyways, but the agent said that in her experience, it would be denied. Is she right? Is this a situation insurance would not be responsible for? I understand that the wind is ultimately what caused the damage, but the blocks wouldn't have blown anywhere if they weren't on top of insulation only a few feet away from the car lot. On top of that - if my car IS totaled, how much would I expect from a non-car insurance company? Do they still just pay out ACV for a total loss? Luckily I don't have a loan on this car, but it's going to be quite frustrating to deal with something like this that wasn't my fault at all. TIA. [link] [comments] |
One hand doesn't talk to the other hand Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:31 PM PST So after a recent hailstorm in my city, my wife's car was smashed to buggery by the hail. As a result of the hail damage to the windscreen, they seemed the car unsafe to drive. However I have free glass cover, so I'll be getting my new windscreen on the 4th of November between 4pm and 5pm. However I just got a call from the Hail assessor, and they want the car to be taken to them, 40 minutes drive away, tomorrow morning (the 3rd) Seems that somewhere, the process has been lost that the car is undriveable until Thursday (5th) She seemed quite shocked when I said "So you're coming to me?" When she said no I was like "So....you're sending a truck out to get it?" And she was like "Ummm...no, it says here you need to drive it into us?" When I said to her "So you want me to drive a car with a severely hail damaged windscreen across the city to you, that has been deemed undriveable by the insurance company, so if I do drive it, I void my insurance?" She said she saw the problem. So I rang the insurance company back and their response was "At any other time, we would get it towed out there, but at the moment the cost of town trucks as you can imagine, is very high, so as this is just an assessment, we'll have to postpone it" Honestly I didn't imagine the cost of tow trucks would be high, and looking through my PDS there's nothing in there that says anything about the cost of tow trucks. At least once the windscreen is done we have the all clear to drive it around anyway. So we'll be back to 2 cars and I can go back to work. But seriously, you'd think in 2020 with computers there'd be like....a portal where all the jobs for the insurers are on there and the car has details where all the repairers can add their notes. So car is undriveable due to windscreen, windscreen is booked in for this day, then once windscreen is done the windscreen repairer marks job as done and now the vehicle is driveable in the system so the other repairers can call it in. Otherwise they can see it's undriveable and order a tow if they need to do their bit before a different repairer does their bit. [link] [comments] |
Question about my dental insurance. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:13 AM PST I live in Ohio and am on the united healthcare community plan (my mother's plan since im under 26, but i'm over 21 if that makes me lose certain benefits?). I have an appointment for a dentist I have never been to before so I imagine they will be taking a bunch of x rays and stuff. Its been about 3 years since I last went to a dentist (my old one) and had x rays. I remember reading a while back that my plan only covers certain types of x rays every 4 years, but I can't find it now. I don't know if what I read was false or if they changed how it works, or something else. Does anybody know if this is true? Or will they cover the x rays my dentist will take? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 01:21 PM PST We caught him cheating and preparing a new life. Can he change her life insurance pay out to himself or anyone else? He bought it months ago and made the payout 50/50 to me and my sibling. [link] [comments] |
20 year roof covered at full replacement cost? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:45 AM PST We are in the process of buying a house in Kansas and i have been getting some quotes for insurance coverage. The roof on the house is 20 years old, but in good condition. Most of the companies have quoted me coverage on the roof for a depreciated value. The State Farm agent is the only one that said they would cover the roof at full replacement cost. Is that really a thing? I asked if I could see this in writing and they said it's in the quote "Loss Settlement Option - Dwelling. A1 - Replacement Cost - Similar Construction". This doesn't seem specific to roof. I'm not sure how to respond to the agent or if I should even trust them. The company who had the lowest quote was very surprised they offered this and told me I should ask to see it in writing. Posted: 01 Nov 2020 07:43 PM PST Had a fire in my garage a little bit ago. Just received notice from the adjuster that all my spare auto parts are excluded from coverage. These are extra parts and do not curreny belong on a vehicle. I understand parts in use bring excluded, but not extra stored parts. The adjuster was unable to tell me what kind of policy would cover them. Parts loss is about $14k in ACV and at may $30k in RC. State Farm has been awesome until this hiccup. Surely, this isn't correct, is it. Policy states the exclusion to the effect of, "... motor vehicles including equipment and parts." Plain language context indicates to me, that the "equipment and parts," refer to those belonging to, or currently used on, a motor vehicle rather that "extra" parts. Responsible party in auto insurance claim won't respond to their insurance Posted: 01 Nov 2020 03:23 PM PST 2 weeks ago a car backed right into mine while I was parked. I happened to be sitting in it at the time. They (person A) immediately pulled away from my car. They did the "dont see any damage Im leaving". But my car had damage. I got their name and number. I filed a claim against their insurance. Turns out the policy number they (person A) gave isnt theirs. Its the car owners policy (Ill call policy owner person B). They (A) were borrowing the car. Their insurance got ahold of (B) and they stated they allow (A) to drive the car. But there insurance needed the story from (A) to finish the claim. (B) gave them a number to reach (A). But (A) wont answer any of the calls. I gave an alternate number to them, the one (A) gave me. Its been two weeks, and I followed up with their insurance and they are still trying to get ahold of (A). How long can they keep stalling or what is the process if (A) doesnt ever respond? Virginia if that matters. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

What insurance do I need to ship a car interstate? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:31 PM PST Hi all, I've just purchased a car located in Oregon and am going to have it shipped to Florida. I want to get insurance on it for the trip over but I can't seem to get a clear answer anywhere on what insurance I need. Should I start paying for an actual car insurance policy now, and if so which state should I register it in? Do the current owner's Oregon plates need to stay on the car? Is there some kind of insurance specifically for transporting of vehicles? And before I start getting lmgtfy links, yes I've tried searching online, and either it isn't there or I'm very bad at understanding all of this and need it explained to me like I'm (a very sophisticated) 10 year old. Thank you so very much in advance! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Nov 2020 03:41 PM PST Hey all. I hope this qs is relevant to the page....I have a project where I am the captive manager for an insurance firm. We have decided to choose a reinsurer and I was wondering how I would assess the amount to put in the captive and what the Premium and deductible should be. The company has a past claims of $29m and a TiV if $11.5b. I've contacted my teacher and he hasn't responded and the web doesn't really explain it. I hope this makes sense. Thanks ! Posted: 01 Nov 2020 10:56 AM PST I own a small condo in Pa. I had water damage in my unit and the cabinet the kitchen sink is in is damaged badly. The other cabinets on the same side only have damage where they meet the floor. The opposite side of the kitchen had no water damage and the wall cabinets had no damage. The adjuster figured in replacement of the floor cabinets only and said I will have to find a suitable match as he won't replace the wall cabinets. They are very old and will be impossible to match. Is this normal? I assumed the cabinets would be covered. I have never seen a kitchen where the cabinets don't match. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
