I'm lost about getting traffic to my website small business

I'm lost about getting traffic to my website

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:06 AM PST

    Hello everyone

I finished my store a few days ago, all by myself. I'm new to business and marketing so I don't have any idea on how to get traffic to my site but I'm learning. I've been reading that SEO and keywords are a must. I'm also learning about google ads and Facebook ads or Instagram, however I don't know which one would make a better impact to my page. That's a concern because I'm a student and I lost my job due to COVID

I''m using all my savings therefore, my budget is tight. According to shopify analytics I'm getting 4 visits more or less a day. Could you please check my page for mistakes? https://panacotacandle.com/ Also I would appreciate very much tips on how to get traffic and have sales.

    Thank you very much

If you have online sales in other states in the U.S., keep an eye on the news. States may be more aggressive on the Wayfair act.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 05:56 AM PST

While the federal government in the United States is not required to maintain a balanced budget, States are. The pandemic has taken a toll on these budgets and they are looking to get income somewhere. Ive got a feeling that once the election is over, this will be popular in the news.

Previously, States have been lenient on the Wayfair Act that requires sales tax to be collected on online sales where the seller has nexus in the state where the sale takes place. Currently, there is not a uniform definition of what gives a business nexus in a state. The most popular one is $100,000 in retail sales or 200 transactions.

Another thing that is up for debate is how to treat marketplaces like Amazon and Etsy. If they are mediating selling your product, is nexus determined by their sales or yours? That question still has not been determined and is up for debate. Some states even have different definitions of what qualifies as a marketplace facilitator.

Nothing has been announced yet, just giving everyone a heads up as it was a big topic in a tax update session I just had.

Retail with lots of small $ items - choosing POS

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 03:53 AM PST

I'm opening a small business and I have many items, hundreds that can be around $4, $5 and up to 60 70 or 80. But most of my items are small dollar of objects that people will buy multiple of... To put these in perspective I forecast around $100,000 annually gross once were fully stocked and everything in place.

    So...

    Inventory management is important...

I would like to do some consignment...

I don't really want to pay a monthly fee + transaction charges..

I'm open to a monthly fee with deep discounted transaction charges or zero...

I would envision creating a self-checkout process one day...

I would like to integrate e-commerce or use the bundled feature that comes with some of these companies.

The PaySafe rep (clover) is pushing hard, free hardware. But there is a $35 a month software charge. Is this standard with all all POS providers? When calculating fees, the monthly charge came in at the very end... He still claims they are the least expensive POS service in the industry... Hmmm🙄

Anyway to simplify this question, I would love someone to tell me what I should be looking at based on what I've explained. This may be the single most important decision I make going forward so I want to make it one time.

For the record I'm technically savvy and back end configurations of applications is something that I don't mind doing. So I would appreciate a robust cloud system interface that allowed me to customize and track data.

maybe I'm overthinking this and just need to pick one and go?!

    Thank you in advance.

(UK) Starting to pay tax on hobby income. Register in my name or my partners?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 04:12 AM PST

    Hi all

A few months ago my partner and I started making handycrafts and selling them online as a hobby. We have almost reached £1,000 net income which to my understanding means that we will have to declare this to HMRC and start paying tax on the profits.

I am also in full time employment and my partner is part time. I am on the higher income tax band already, my partner is in the lower band. Would it be legal for us to set up for tax purposes as a sole trader under my partner's name so we pay the lower income tax rate on any profits we make through our hobby? We do equal amounts of work on it between us.

    Thanks

    Tarpaulins For Camping

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 04:10 AM PST

    Camping Tarps

Are you one of those people who are always ready to go out on camping expeditions with family and friends? Well, then you must make sure you have some important equipment with you all the time. Something you should never forget to have with you on such occasions is a tarpaulins shelter.

Be it a camping trip, a get-together in the backyard, a stall at a fair or anything else, you will always find a tarpaulins shelter. working extremely well. The good thing is that it is now available in a variety of materials, including mesh, canvas, and nylon laminated. Depending on your budget, you can select one from all available options. However, if money is not your problem, you need to consider few other points to select the best type of Tarpaulin for yourself.

If you have specific preferences pertaining to material, color, size, and construction type, you should check the collection of basic Canvas Tarpaulins. These are also available at relatively lower rates, which is why most people choose them.

    Types of Tarps

Economy tarpaulins are also quite good. Of course, you have to spend more money to buy one, but it will always offer the best value for your money. These are usually suitable for people who are on the lookout for a cover that provides light protection from wind and sun. In order to enjoy better quality, it is a good idea to choose vinyl laminated mesh, which not only makes your tarp extremely durable but also protects it from rot and mildew.

If both of these options don't attract you a lot, you can put your faith in canvas tarps. These are usually heavy-duty tarps, allowing you to use them differently, as sails, painters drop clothes, tents, vehicle covers, and canopies. If you choose it correctly, you may have a tarp that is water repellent as well as rot, mildew, flame, and UV resistant.

    Loosing friends while gaining business

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:27 PM PST

Just having a moment of reflection and realization and wondering if it's a normal experience. When I started my business 5 years ago I expected some support and word of mouth from my friends. Some did, most did not. I was already so stressed and focused on my business succeeding so I never addressed it with them and they faded away. Then a new group came..the "influencers" getting free product for a public plug. But they were territorial and want a bit of "control" over who you are associating with. They were also terribly gossipy. So they faded away. I'm actually quite successful now. I look around and there are only a handful of friends and constant supporters who have been with me since day one. Did your friends and associations change throughout your struggle to succeed?

Have you ever needed something like this for your small business?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 02:30 AM PST

    Hi folks!

I'm working on a new project and was wondering if you ever needed something like this for your small business.

It's a simple tool that lets you use Google Sheets (and soon Airtable and MS Excel) to send personalized emails.

I made this to scratch my own itch. Many times in the past I needed an easy way to send emails to my users and customers (to ask them for feedback, send them discount codes, etc.) and I had to use a bunch of complex scripts and tools to do that.

But now, I simply prepare the data in Google Sheets, write the message in my tool, and hit send.

I also plan to add other integrations, like SMS and WhatsApp in the future.

    Have you ever needed this?

Searching for a home based low investment manufacturing business idea for one year now and still no progress! Can someone please suggest something?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 02:07 AM PST

I live in Bangladesh and I have been trying to find a sweatystartup business idea to start for almost a year now. I have made a large list of 50-60 ideas and then combed and filtered through them to make a shortlist and researched the ideas in depth but still I can't seem to find a single idea that is doable! I feel like tearing my hair out.

The thing is, there are a bunch of constraints that I face. These are:

    • The business needs to be a low investment business
    • It needs to be something that can be done from home. ie, a home based business.
    • It needs to be something that does not require much computer savviness.
    • Preferrably, but optionally it should be something that can be exported since the purchasing power of people in my country is very low.

Now I have gone through lists like the ones in "Business ideas I love" on sweatystartup.com. But those are all personal service businesses that cannot be done by people who have mobility/disability issues. I know you can overcome this barrier if you are able to bring in someone else who would do those type of work for you but at the moment that is not possible. I just don't have that type of contacts.

So I guess, that leaves me with manufacturing ideas only. And its impossible to compete with china on manufacturing anything. Most maufacturing and exports also seem to need a lot of working capital investment as well.

Can someone please point me to a large list of business ideas that meet the constraints I have? It doesn't need to be that profitable, a net income after taxes and all of USD 400 per month every month would be fine.

    EDIT:

Here are what I researched from the shortlist:

    • Craft business: Requires artistic skills which we don't have. Also, the crafts produced by regular artisans are of a very primitive quality compared to the ones in Etsy.
    • Print on Demand: Not many businesses here in Bangladesh doing it. Does not seem to have a market for it. The purchasing power is low of people here. The one website I know of, only sold 5 customised printed wallets in 5 years for example [they have sales counter on their website].
    • Hotsauce and Naga chilli raw fruit export: Exporting the raw fruit means supplying in containers which requires big capital investment. Hotsauce market not available in the country. For export it requires solid recipe, contacts, marketing and expensive certifications. These are also very perishable.

Agency vs freelancer vs In-house designer.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 12:41 AM PST

I just finished college and I'm looking to start a new business, ecommerce to be specific.

I dont know if I should hire an agency or work with freelancers as the need arises or take on an in-house designer? What are the advantages and downsides? What do you recommend?

Then, how much do you guys spend reasonably monthly on design? I've done a bit of research and I've seen so many contrasting views, so I'm looking to get the opinions of people ACTUALLY in business.

    Thank you. 🤗

Need Based Scholarship Fund By A Small Business

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 06:31 PM PST

Hey there! I work at a small and successful business that provides short term backpacking skills and experiences. Historically, we have had middle/upper class clients. We are looking to be able to offer a scholarship fund based on need based aid to allow more diverse individuals to attend trips. There are a few issues I simply have no experience with and couldn't find resources online, although I'm sure they exist:

    • Has anyone had experience and insight offering a need based scholarship?
    • What are good ways to verify needs based aid? Tax returns seem like only secure way to go, but I can foresee that getting messy.
    • Are there any liability or discrimination issues we should be aware of?

How Do You Trust Your Employees?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 02:08 PM PST

I own a small retail shop and have 4 employees working in shifts. I've had issues with 1 of the employee's (lets call him Sam) in that he's very lazy and won't do what I ask of him unless I remind him several times. Its gotten to the point where another employee (lets call him Mike) has complained since they usually will work together.

In short I've asked Mike to keep things in confidence regarding some things as I'm looking to promote him to a Manager. I've also talked to him about Sam and his lack of effort in helping Mike with tasks that require 2 people.

Turns out Mike has been telling everything, even things I ask him to keep in confidence to Sam.

Its causing me stress and I'm guessing I messed up thinking I can trust Mike.

Any guidance or advice anyone can share about being able to trust your employees or gaining their trusts? What about building morale and getting them to do things?

    Thanks!

    Shipping and Logistics Dilema

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 01:07 PM PST

    I sell spices and herbs.

1 kilogram of one ingredients may be bulkier than another 1 kilogram of another.

So that said sometimes if there is multiple items the package size may vary.

This is causing some confusion between my admins who create shipping labels and then are told by production that the order has been packed in for example 2 seperate boxes.

I'm trying to think of solutions to this.

    1. Ship everything in bigger boxes than it needs to be shipped in?
    2. have my warehouse packers create shipping labels (not ideal as I'd have to teach them how to make labels).

Any ideas. It's a logistical nightmare. I find my admins have to void and redo at least 2 labels a day.

What business structure for a couple of married artists? [CA]

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 12:05 PM PST

Right now we're making roughly $2500 a month after expenses, so $800 a year for a CA LLC is a not-insignificant expense. I see a lot of recommendations for LLCs, but I don't see what advantages it confers us. We're working from home, aren't involving any sort of debt or vendors, and will never have any employees, so I can't imagine what sort of liabilities we could incur.

I just want to be able to pay taxes on our income and deduct business expenses. Do we really need anything beyond a General Partnership to be able to do that?

Helping small businesses during the pandemic

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 03:06 PM PST

    Hi!

I recently started my own brand development consultancy and ads management agency, and already got some nice clients, mostly small companies. One way or another, most of them have been greatly affected by covid-19.

So, I've decided to start a small business support program where we'll be offering some of our services at exceptionally low rates (I mean it, we're talking about as low as $150/month) to small businesses. We can't help everyone, so we'll be picking those we think we can best help.

If you're interested and run a small business or startup, message me and I'll provide you some more info. Please include in your message some details about your business (description, website, social media, ...).

    Stay safe everyone!

Need some reassurance on a invoice mistake

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 02:08 PM PST

I own a photography business and I'm working with my biggest client yet.

So I'm working on my invoice for them and the sub total is around $20,000 for 30 photos. The 30 photos are going to take about a year to shoot, and the scale of each one is of a much higher caliber than my usual stuff.

Anyway, I ended up sending the WRONG invoice. I sent an invoice from a recent project where I shot 130 photos for $500. These photos are quick unedited files. Unfortunately there is no way to have knowledge of the difference in photo quality just by reading the two invoices. Full panic. OOF, I messed up. Now they are clearly aware of what I've charged on a recent project and it's clearly much less in their eyes.

I followed up in less than 2 minutes with the correct invoice, casually and only stating I sent the wrong file.

I've already signed a contract for the project, so neither party can pull out. I just don't want to make the client feel like they're getting ripped off.

Should I follow up on this, and explain why the wrong invoice had such low prices?

    Have you done something similar?
