    Hit and run Insurance

    Hit and run

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 10:50 PM PST

I was driving home today and was rear ended by a driver. They drove about 2 miles then finally pulled over, I was already on the phone with California high way patrol at the time. I requested an officer to come to me, once I got out and talked to the person who hit me. They said they didn't have insurance and I told them the cops are already on there way. He left immediately, I have a description of the person and license plate of the car. I'm making my insurance claim tomorrow, I'm fully covered with uninsured motorists insurance though AAA. Is there anything I should be aware before I call tomorrow? I'm in California.

[NOT OP] I got rear ended in October, the driver fled the scene. I got a police report and 911 call, and their insurance denied my claim because the driver was "not being co-operative". What can i do about it?

Car at body shop 90 days

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:49 PM PST

Car at body shop 90 days

in August of 2020. Had it towed to a Bodyshop that was recommended, not the insurance company's preferid shop, mistake one... it is located in a ref part of town, mistake two. Won't bore you with the details, other than it sat and sat...

First week of October I was asked to pay my deductible of $2K (yes, I'm unemployed and had to increase the deductible ), plus he needed an extra $500 bc the computer, blah, blah , blah... "ok, Mr Bodyshop here's my credit card"... well, no needs to be cash if not I have to charge tax... wait I thought tax was in the estimate.. whatever, I cashapped him $2,500.

A month later today I got the car back, yayyyyyyyy... not so quick..

The remote start? It starts, then shuts off in under a minute Heat liner under hood is loose, not attached properly , not replaced with new one (it was a front end collision). Hood support (2019 Honda Civic) is not aligning up with where it mounts when hood is down, about 2" off. Driver side edge of fender is bare metal about an inch where it rubs to the plastic windshield trim Driver side turn light is loose

Driver side fender is loose, some bolts missing Under hood: plastic cover over radiator missing 3-4 plastic tabs Under car? Quick view. i was pissed at this point, missing some plastic fasteners holding the plastic pan cover.

Inside car All, all warning lights are on... Radio doesn't work Phone? Could be just reconnecting the bluetooth.

Something fishy is going on. Total cost was about $11K ... car is a 2018 honda civic ex.. I'm wondering if the shop was in cohorts with the adjuster NOT to total it..

Why couldn't he go back for a supplement for the extra $500 he extracted from me?

Who or will it help and how would it help talking to my insurance ?

Thinking of hiring someone to review the car before i pick it up again? Like one of those people you hire to do a pre purchase inspection.

    Thoughts

    Car Crash/Insurance Question

    Car Crash/Insurance Question

A friend of mine got into an accident and has some nice wheels she wants back from the car. I don't know yet if she called insurance/had it towed, but assuming she has, in Oregon can you swap custom wheels you had on there with your stock ones? I can guess the "it depends on insurance _________" what's people's experience with getting intact valuables back from the crashed car?

Turning 26 and looking for some advice/tips

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:11 PM PST

I'll be turning 26 in the next couple months and thus will be dropped from my parents insurance plan/coverage. I've been pretty dependent my entire "adult" life and I'm quite overwhelmed with this and wanted to see if anyone could give me some advice.

I reside in the state of Pennsylvania and live with my parents. I'm pretty sure they claim me as a dependent. I'm currently employed (part-time, but obviously I'll have to consider full-time) at the local Lowe's. While they do offer insurance, the enrollment seems to have closed as of October, but I plan on asking about it regardless. I only make $12 an hour.

Outside of that, it seems like my options are to explore plans on healthcare.gov, possibly look into medicaid/medicare (although I'm not really sure what either entails) or to use COBRA to stay on the parents plan slightly longer. If I'm wrong about any of this let me know.

I have no health issues or prescriptions to worry about outside of therapy twice a month. I'm assuming it would be in my best interest to then seek out a less expensive plan that focuses more on preventative care?

Rear ended 2 years ago, sustained some injury, question about settlement and doctors fee?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 10:23 PM PST

    California here.

I don't know if this fits this sub, if not please remove it.

I was rear ended, sustained some permanent injury. The other driver's insurance policy max at 100k

I went to my lawyer's doctors for treatments and everything came out at 120K.

My understanding in cases like this. When the settlement is reached. The lawyers will negotiate the medical fees? My lawyers will take their 33.33% cutt (40% if they go to court) and by law, the doctors/facilities can only take 33.33% as well max, leaving me the rest 33.33%.

    Is this correct?

I was driving my motor home and drove it through a rough patch of dirt road. At first the motor home seemed fine, but now I realize that they did a lot of damage. Any issue as that I should be aware of before filing a claim?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:35 PM PST

Basically the motor home was "bottomed out" pretty hard. Fiberglass damage in four locations, front door won't open/close well, two storage doors won't open, one frame guard is falling off. It wouldn't surprise me of this was a pretty expensive repair. Didn't think the bumps in the dirt road were that big while trying to park it at night. Any input on "potholes" to avoid while making a claim appreciated. Utah

Running out of options, feeling hopeless

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:28 PM PST

Long post so bare with me.

So back in August a guy hit me when he went across the median and I had right of way, only had enough reaction time to slam the brakes to avoid a full blown T-bone but still hit on the bumpers. Guy tries to spin the accident on me but the responding officers put him first on the crash report so he's at fault. So I contact the dudes insurance and they ended up saying he was no longer with them as the last payment he made to them was in March so now I'm feeling like what the heck. I contact him to see if maybe he changed insurance companies or something and he tells me if I just go to a body shop and get a estimate for the repairs that he will pay for it and even refers me to a mechanic he knows so I'm like alright cool. Contact his mechanic and never respond back to me so I went ahead and got an estimate from a nearby shop. Sent the information to him and he says that it's 4 parts to which I reply yes sir. No more responses from him. So running out of options I turn to a accident specialist lady where she tells me that we have to find out if the guy has some other form of insurance or something and it even got to the point where me and my girlfriend who was the passenger went to a chiropractor to say we got injuries to try and help the case saying we also got injured in the crash. That case also ended up nowhere with the lawyers saying there's nothing we can get the guy with. Accident lady tells me my only option is to file a small claims case against him. I go ahead and file the case which cost me $300 cause the amount I'm filing for is over $2,500 but I'm like idc I want to get this guy he can't get away with this. I pay an extra $40 so that the sheriff can deliver the pre trail notice to his residence but then in trying to deliver it the sheriff says that the people in the residence have no idea of who the guy is and the only way to deliver the pre trail notice is to give another address which I don't have. So this guy gives out of date insurance, lies about his address, and plays with me just to avoid facing the consequences. And it sucks cause it's my mom's car (I was obviously under the insurance) and when I do buy my own car I don't want to give her back her car all messed up. I just don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Budget Rental Damage and Mastercard claim

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 11:43 AM PST

    Hi,

I had an accident about 3 months ago in NY state. Today, I finally have received the damage claim from Budget. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by Budget.

In the bill, apart from the damage costs, I am being charged ~$800 for loss of use(credit card covers 500 max as per the mastercard website), a $200 administrative fee and diminished value fee of $951(which again mastercard does not cover).

How much of this will I have to pay out-of-pocket? Is there a way that mastercard maybe negotiates this for me with Budget?

I also remember reading that some credit card companies have some understanding with the rental companies such that these frivolous fees are waived. Is that a possibility?

    Thanks!

How can I hide my insurance claims?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 05:40 PM PST

So I am 17 and under my moms work insurance, great west life. Btw I'm Canadian and have OHIP but also have GWL.

Whenever I get a prescription, it goes under her claims and shows who's it is, what it was, all that stuff. I'm going on birth control soon and she is anti sex, birth control, everything. She isn't okay with it at all but I need to be extra safe and I could use it for my acne.

So is there a way I can hide my claims from her? I don't even have my own GWL card or anything, no login or anything since I'm under her. and usually OHIP would cover my meds but since I have private insurance they wont..

Is there anything I can do with Greatwest life? Like if I call can they switch it and make my info private?

False hit and run claim made against me

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:40 PM PST

I just received an email a few hours ago about rear ending someone and driving off on Wednesday. I immediately contacted my insurance and told them this was false, they said an adjustor would contact me tomorrow. In the claim, this person seems to have filed a police report with state police. I haven't been contacted by state police but I'm curious if I should immediately contact them and have them come inspect my car, or do I let insurance handle everything?

New to Picking Health Insurance Plan! Help me understood this one thing...

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 03:04 PM PST

Hi! So, I'm on healthcare.gov picking my Oregon health plan, but I'm confused if "Drugs covered" means that my prescriptions (birth control and minocycline oral tablets) are FULLY covered or not? They have a green check by them, but I'm not sure if this means I still have to pay for them in full to meet my deductible before I have them paid for 100% OR they are already covered and I don't have to pay for anything.

Here is my SILVER plan I'm looking at:

Monthly premium: $152 (with tax credits I'm using towards it)

    Deductible: $350 and $2,700 out-of-pocket maximum

    Generic drugs: $15

Primary doctor: $20, Specialist doctor: $30

    Estimated yearly cost: $2002

Drugs covered: Minocycline (green check mark) and another birth control

MY needs: annual doctor visit, two prescriptions (birth control and minocycline). I'm really healthy and haven't gotten sick since I was 15. Is this plan smart for me? Or should I do a Bronze plan even though I have to spend more to get the benefits?

But yes the big question— does "Drugs covered" mean I won't pay anything for my prescriptions? Or do I have to work up to my deductible?

How do I elect for Cobra Insurance?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 02:51 PM PST

So I find myself in a rather odd situation. About two weeks ago I left my job (Wasn't fired I quit) and I'll be starting a new job by the end of November so I have a gap period. During this time I have a medical procedure that I'll need health insurance for as it's waaaaaaaay too much money to pay out of pocket. My former employer suggested I do Cobra insurance but....I don't even know how to actually use it or how I would even go about signing up for it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm completely lost here. For the record I live in the states in MA.

    Help with purchasing renter's insurance

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 02:49 PM PST

I'm trying to purchase a new renter's insurance policy.

I have an atypical amount of computers and computer equipment in my home. I want to to ensure it will all be covered (replacement values, of course). I have asked multiple agents + the insurance companies directly. Nobody can give me a straight answer on how these items are covered, if they are covered or what policy I need. I even begged to talk to an adjuster :-)

What do you think I need?

(I have documentation of all significant items, even if I don't have a receipt.)

    1. I have a "home lab" consisting business-grade computers (mostly older / used) - servers, network-attached storage, network switches, etc. They're used for my own personal enjoyment and education. Some were purchased outright, some were given in a trade, some were free. Most expensive item around $3k / about $10k in total.
    2. I have a number of consumer-grade personal computers - multiple desktops, laptops, tablets (nothing over $1.5k/ea). Maybe another $8k total.
    3. I have various computer parts/equip that I've collected over the years. Computer memory, rare cables, gently-used hard drives, Wi-Fi access points, extra network switches etc. I could sell this in the future or use it on side projects. Probably the most contentious portion of belongings… Worth about $8k.
    4. I have two company provided laptops / telephone (~$2.5k).
    5. All other personal property amounts to about ~$40k.

Every company handles "computer equipment" so differently. Some lump them into personal property limits or have separate limits, cap individual items, specifically exclude "business computers" (my work computer), or max out at like $5k per claim, etc. etc... If I had a claim, I'm worried they'd see some of these items, say its business-related and just deny my claim.

    In Colorado, here...

    Adjuster career- NJ

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 02:22 PM PST

    Hey everyone,

I'm looking into switching careers and I was interested in becoming an adjuster. From what I've gathered since NJ does not require licensing, I can go ahead and designate a home state for this to make myself more marketable to potential employers.

Can anyone help me out as a lot of these websites might as well be written in Persian and I have no idea where to go next to begin with the process, and afterwards how to search for positions.

    Thanks in advance

    HSA or POS?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 02:10 PM PST

Open enrollment time! I live in Atlanta, GA. My company offers an HSA plan, as well as a traditional POS plan. I currently have the POS and only pay $10 for dental and vision. Here is the break down:

HSA $50 each pay period, $4500 deductible, $4500 max out of pocket, company matches HSA at $50 per pay period.

POS $0 each pay period, $1500 deductible, $4500 max out of pocket, $25 copay for primary care, $50 copay for specialist. Dental and vision are $10 per pay period.

My concern is my current insurance POS plans claims ytd total around $3k, including a couple prescriptions and a few doctor visits. It covers nearly all of this but of couse that would not be the case with the HSA. It looks like every year will be a wash unless I contribute more, which I am not sure I have the budget to do.

If I choose the HSA, I would be able put $50 each pay period into the account. That would be $1200 for the year, plus my employer contribution of $50 each pay period, so $2400 total. I am in fairly good health now, and preventative care is covered 100%. What is my best route?

I asked my adjuster to send me the part of my policy where my 20x60 shed was excluded from coverage for a fire I had. He responded "Due to the size of this building it would be required to be a scheduled structure. Unscheduled structures are typically fences, small sheds under 300 sq. ft."

Minor car accident and no police report, anything I can do?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 01:51 PM PST

I am located in NYC and recently had a minor accident where someone parking lightly hit my bumper. It is very minor damage but still damage on a new bumper. I did not file a police report because it was so minor and I could not wait around 3 hours on that day. I filed a claim with their insurance and they basically got back to me saying they have not been able to contact the driver and there is no concrete proof. They recommended that I contact my insurance also, which I did. It seems like this will go no where but just wondering if there is anything else I can do about this? I know I can file a "civilian police report" myself but I don't know if this will change anything and don't think there is a point. Thanks for any help at all.

How much of a difference is there from the online quotes vs calling? Is there a specific red flag?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 01:22 PM PST

So, I recently just got a new car. Well, not new, but it was a 2013 Fiat 500e for $7400 USD financed through my credit union. All electric and with only 19,000 miles.

However, I haven't even driven it yet(outside of some country back roads) due to not being able to find decent insurance online. I'm a 20 yr old male student and my last car was a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. I payed about $360 USD for full coverage with Progressive.

    This is my track history:

In the last 3 years, I had 2 at fault accidents for the same thing. Not seeing a car and turning. Since then, I have taken several driving courses(on my own, not mandated) and have been diagnosed with ADHD. I am now medicated and talk to a psychologist for it twice a week.

Not at all saying this is an excuse, but more or less explaining the steps I've taken in the right direction. I have to drive for my new job, unfortunately.

So, I tried quotes from just about every insurance company online, but they all come back at about $1000 a month. This is "doable", but since I pay only $140 a month for my car, I kind of want to try and lower it so I'm not paying 8 times the cars worth just to drive it, if that makes sense.

Are these quotes going to be the same if I call in?

I also make about about 40k a year, but live with my mother at the moment, so I can finish school. So, it's not the absolute end of the world if I can't find insurance any cheaper, I guess.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!
