    Currently crying in my office!

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:01 AM PST

I'm currently crying in my office so embarrassed to step out of it. The director of finance kinda yelled at me infront of my coworkers and a new person who i will be training. He yelled at me for something I literally didn't do and could have been handled way differently than he did. I kinda played it off but as soon as i got in my office i shut the door and kept crying! When i finished college i applied for cpa firms and I couldn't get an offer. Although i graduated with a 4.0 and already was a cpa candidate but maybe it was not my door. I also didn't go to a target school so my options were limited. I told myself its okay and that i will get any job and study for the cpa exam. I took a job at the government and ever since I've been here so two years. I'm almost done with my cpa. Just the though of it makes me depressed... i tell myself that why did i get yelled at? I don't deserve this. I work hard on myself everyday and I thrive to be a good person in the community. Did i get a job I didn't want in the first place to get yelled at like that. He always has been rude to me alllll the time. He look so down on me although everyone says how good of a job i do. He keeps saying he is like that to make me better. NO, that's a rude unacceptable behavior. Want to yell at me? Come to my office and do it but not infront of other people. I'm just so depressed and needed to vent. I probably talk to my supervisor to take an action. I'm so tempted to put in my two weeks and leave but i know that i have rent and other expenses and not guaranteed to find a job now.

Has anyone considered becoming an accounting professor?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:58 PM PST

Anyone thinking about leaving public accounting or industry accounting to become a professor? or pursue a phD? Or is there anyone in this community that went straight from the undergraduate to phD?

I love the idea of being an accounting professor b/c I could do two things I really like: teaching and accounting. Scared of the idea of it though. I know generally you have to get a couple of years of accounting experience to be considered for a phD but I'm worried I'll get so consumed in public accounting and give it up.

I'm in the Baltimore area and there's so much public accounting and industry jobs I can work at. Then I would pursue higher education at one of the many great universities nearby....

    New associate, very worried

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:53 PM PST

I started at Big 4 in September and started on a client about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Year end was in August so we're basically in busy season and I'm getting very overwhelmed by all of this. I don't understand anything. Even when my team explains things to me two or three times I still manage to mess everything up. I take so much time to do everything and it's really stressing me out. I feel like I'm going to get fired for being such a low performer... When I wake up I immediately feel anxious for work because I don't know what I'm doing. Then I have to tell my team in our catch up calls that I'm still doing the tasks I've been doing for days. They're all very chill and patient with me but I feel like their patience might be wearing thin, I can't tell. If you guys have any advice on what I can do to be better, I'd really appreciate it.

    Convinced I’m getting fired

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:45 PM PST

Long story short, I have been completely overwhelmed at work lately. As a result, I have made some mistakes. I'm not sure if they are system related or if I'm not paying enough attention. Most of the work I do is extremely manual and I feel completely helpless when there is a deadline.

I wish there was More I could do to review my work, but there really isn't much opportunity with the current situation.

Should I be worried I'm going to get fired soon? My boss seems convinced I'm making a lot of mistakes because of my lack of attention, but I know some of them are completely out of my control (system glitches, lack of training, etc).

    CPA Crossroads- B4

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 09:11 PM PST

Scheduled to take the CPA in 3 weeks and not feeling great about it. Obviously there is some time left to cram, but for some reason it's just not clicking rn. Not sure if it's because of Covid related cabin fever, lack of motivation b/c of disinterest in material or just the fact of the overwhelming amount of material to learn. It is my first time taking it. Anyway, was wondering what if I decided not to take it? Is going forward in accounting essentially a fools errand at that point? I mean obviously you'll hit a ceiling in public at senior with no CPA, so then what's the point if all the opportunity in public is after that. I suppose you still have opportunity in industry without having a CPA, coming from the CPA? Let me know what ya'll think.

[CAN] What do I do when I'm not scheduled for any clients at public/B4

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:51 PM PST

Hey yall, just started at B4 and noticed I am not being scheduled for any engagements or clients next week after my orientation and training this week.

Is this normal? What am I suppose to do for 40 hours? They have a few mandatory training assignments but it shouldnt take more than a day, so I'm super confused. I have no problem chilling and charging all 40 hours to admin or training, but I dont want this to bite me in the ass, especially as a new hire.

Switching majors with a full time offer lined up

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:11 PM PST

I'm an accounting student with an economics minor. I did an internship at a big 4 last summer and it was ok, and they gave me a full time offer for after I graduate. I took intermediate accounting this quarter and absolutely hated it. I don't think I want anything to do with accounting. As a result, I switched my major to pure economics. I'll still graduate with 225 units, but what's gonna happen to my full time offer? I'm assuming they're going to make me withdraw it which I'm totally fine with, but at what point should I communicate with them that I switched from accounting with economics minor to economics?

    MIS x Accounting degree

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:08 PM PST

I'm thinking on doing a dual degree on these two and I wanted to know what jobs, positions, or whatever could I get? Is it better to lean more towards the MIS side or towards the Accounting side. If I decide to go the Accounting route I would get my CPA, do B4 2-4 years and go industry. What about MIS? Do any of you have any experience there? What can I do with it and how can I benefit from having the two degrees?

Will wearing a suit that is one size too big for an interview cost you the job?

Can't decide if I should accept job plz give advice :(

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:54 PM PST

So I received an offer from a big 4 firm in Silicon Valley. At first I was so excited and couldn't wait to move, but now I'm having some self-doubt and it's making it hard to accept the offer. Basically, I'm scared that I won't be able to do it, mainly because everyone on here makes the big 4 seem like hell lol. My university's accounting program is in the top 10% of the US and I have a 3.8 GPA, so academically I have succeeded. I've had a couple accounting internships and received full time offers for both, but they were at small firms, so nothing comparable to the big 4. I'm just worried that I'm going to spend so much money moving to the bay area (I'm from Nevada) and I'm not going to be able to do it and basically just ruin the start of my career/put myself through through all of that stress just to stay for a couple months and regret it all. Did anyone else have the same experience? I applied to all big 4 but only received this 1 offer so I'm worried that maybe that shows that maybe I'm not the best candidate for it? I don't mean to make a pity party for myself, I just genuinely am looking for advice because there's not really anyone irl I can talk to about this.

    Switch firms?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:37 PM PST

Is it worth it to switch firms (similar size) for more money?

Isn't it all the same regardless of how you slice it? So shouldn't I go for more money?

    Anyone else switch firms?

Are Big4 firms finally filling roles they let go for lower cost ones?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:43 PM PST

Curious. Would seem to be a viable strategy for them to let people go in the name of COVID slowdown for new lower cost roles

    Acceleration Center offer question

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:42 PM PST

I've been given an offer as an Acceleration Center external audit associate at a PWC office in Texas. As I've been going through the interview process I've read up on the Acceleration Center on here and other subreddits and forums and have not read positive things. However, to my surprise the offer I received comes with a salary in the mid 50s which is right in line with what I've read on the compensation threads. Does anyone have any insight on what makes this job different from everything else I've read where the acceleration center pays far less than the practice offices?
