Teens are buying fewer clothes, less food as their spending hits two-decade low Posted: 06 Oct 2020 04:23 AM PDT Teen spending has hit an all-time low during the coronavirus pandemic, according to Piper Jaffray's 40th biannual "Taking Stock with Teens" report. Teens reported spending just $87 on handbags, an all-time low. Apparel spending came in at about $507 per teen per year, down 11% from the fall of 2019. Thanks for the awards. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Oct 2020 01:09 PM PDT PsychoMarket Recap - Tuesday, October 6, 2020 Stocks traded mixed today as market participants digested a host of new developments around Pres. Trump's health after his COVID diagnosis, Chairman Powell's remarks, the prospect for additional fiscal stimulus, and the resurgence of the Virus in some hotspots. The Nasdaq (QQQ) finished the day 1.78% down, the S&P 500 (SPY) finished the day 1.42%, and the Dow (DIA) finished the day 1.37% down. Today, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell gave a virtual address at the National Association of Business Economics' annual address to discuss the Fed's outlook for the economy during this pandemic. In his address, Powell once again (for the hundredth time it seems) reiterated the need of further fiscal stimulus to support the pandemic-stricken economy and promote faster recovery. He said, "The recovery will be stronger and move faster if monetary policy and fiscal policy continue to work side by side to provide support to the economy until it is clearly out of the woods." Elsewhere, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi echoed Powell's comments. She said. "Chairman Powell's warning could not be more clear: robust action is immediately needed to avert economic catastrophe from the devastation of the coronavirus pandemic. It is long overdue for Republicans to join us in passing a bill that meets the needs of the American people." At the moment of writing this recap, Pres. Trump tweeted "Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith. I am rejecting their request, and looking to the future of our Country. I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business." Immediately after this tweet, the markets turned sharply downwards and the VIX turned sharply upwards (VIX is an indicator of market participant's risk sentiment). Pelosi responded by saying, "Trump is not willing to crush the virus" and that "he puts himself before the nation" Trump departed Walter Reed National Military Medical Center yesterday and returned to the White House, just days after entering the hospital on Friday to be treated for Covid-19. White House physician Dr. Sean Conley said Trump had "met or exceeded all standard hospital discharge criteria," while conceding that he "may not be entirely out of the woods yet" in his recovery process. Just four states in the US are reporting a decline in coronavirus cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In Wisconsin, new cases are averaging at about 2,400 daily -- the third highest in the country behind Texas and California. That's up 15% from what the state was averaging in the previous week. At least 22 states are reporting more new cases than the previous week, with many across the Midwest and now increasingly in the Northeast. Highlights

Posted: 06 Oct 2020 09:35 AM PDT https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/05/apple-anounces-iphone-12-event.html Apple just announced a new event, scheduled for Oct. 13, where analysts expect the company ti reveal the new model of iPhones and their 5G capabilities. The event starts at 10 a.m. Pacific / 1 p.m. ET and will be streamed online due to the ongoing spread of coronavirus. 5G is a next-generation cellular network that promises faster data speeds for things like downloading and streaming games and movies. Apple typically announces new iPhones in September, but Apple had previously warned that this year's new iPhones would be delayed, likely due to production delays related to the coronavirus. Canadian Investing in American ETFs Posted: 06 Oct 2020 04:58 PM PDT So I am with a bank brokerage which means I pay $10 bucks every time I buy a stock and $10 every time I sell. I have heard that ETFS have a MER (Management Expense Ratio) of usually .03-.09% I have heard however different answers about how that fee is practiced. Some have said it is calculated into the price of the equity, others say it comes out of your cash section of your account at certain times in the year? If it is calculated into the price of the etf than how does that work with people and the different amounts of time they may hold it. Some may not hold it for a year? For example trading the SPY or QQQ or doing the dailys of TQQQ/SQQQ or SPYXL etc. Additionally are there any other fees or costs I should know about? I know that as a Canadian 15% of the dividends is with-held. Any other fees or costs or with-holdings I need to know about? I am planning on buying VT or VTI, IVV or VOO, QQQ and maybe also VGT, VWO or VXUS. Also maybe GLD and SLV when lower in price. So guys any other fees or costs I need to know if I hold and also actively trade these back and forth? [link] [comments] |

What even happened? What can be expected for tomorrow? Should I buy more of the low costing stocks? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Oct 2020 02:55 PM PDT Cool companies, everyone uses them. Makes lots of money with advertising, just one problem: AD BLOCKER. Me, I have never click on an ad in gmail or google or youtube or in my FB account. I get all those services for FREE. Isn't that how you make a decision about a stock, you like someone or you do something with a product or company and buy or sell? I would suggest that soon everyone will be using ad blocker or ghostry or one of the many other ad blocking software available and Google and FB will collapse. Why wouldn't you use an adblocker? Notice too how for years now, google, with all it's might has failed to work around ad blocker? All i am saying is that i would not invest in google or FB long term or even short term because they are way over valued. And could easily collapse at any time. It is all too easy to install an adblock for any of the popular browsers - even Chrome, with over 10 million users! [link] [comments] |
Using ETFs to invest in "the future"? Posted: 06 Oct 2020 10:32 AM PDT Been looking into the best ways to invest into battery tech, lithium mining, cyber security, cloud computing, automation, clean energy etc, and have been looking into ETFs for these sectors. What are people's thoughts on using ETFs to invest in "growth" sectors where there isn't an obvious leader in the race yet? Are there any alternative strategies? [link] [comments] |
Can I buy more of the stock that makes up half of my portfolio but is entirely house money? Posted: 06 Oct 2020 12:59 PM PDT Years ago I bought into Solar City which Tesla bought. I have since pulled my initial investment out and am riding only with house money in Tesla which makes up almost half of my portfolio. Normally buying more Tesla would be an awful idea with the thinking that if it crashes I could lose all of my profits and maybe even my initial investment. In the situation that I'm in I can't lose my initial investment because I already took it out. Is it ok to be undiversified when the risk of the initial investment has already been taken and paid back? [link] [comments] |
What does Telehealth companies for? Posted: 06 Oct 2020 10:51 AM PDT I been reading some articles about this telehealth and I find it interesting how their innovations works well. I heard that they could also provide a good services to approx 500,000 patients and best of all, patients don't have to leave their homes for health visits anymore. Amazing right? does anyone here can share their thoughts about this? . [link] [comments] |
Telehealth could be a high-tech shift into the world of virtual healthcare. Posted: 06 Oct 2020 10:51 AM PDT A recent poll says approximately 76% of consumers say they're moderately or highly interested in using telehealth as compared to 11% in 2019, according to McKinsey & Co. There's no need to take time off of work and travel to and from the doctor's office. There are now plenty of on-demand healthcare solutions at your fingertips What do you think of these companies? Could it be possible if the telehealth might be a high-tech shift into the world of virtual healthcare? Share some possible insight with me. [link] [comments] |

Looking to start investing, looking for some tips Posted: 06 Oct 2020 05:06 AM PDT Hello! I'm looking to start investing some money, and will only be starting off small (£500 to £1,000). I've heard about 2 apps; Revolut and RobinHood, and I'm just wondering if anyone has used these and could recommend them, or recommend any other apps? I'll also be looking into the terminology of trading, but if there are any other tips anyone can give me, that would be great! Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
How does stock raise money for the company, and not just the companies owners/board? Posted: 06 Oct 2020 02:43 AM PDT As I understand it, when a company IPOs to raise funds, stocks are issued to the owners/investors of the company. How do these funds translate into money for the actual company? If someone sells their stock it goes to the person not the company? What even is the value/function of the stock? [link] [comments] |
