If you think the growing electric-car market would exist without Tesla, think again

    https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-can-be-thanked-creating-a-growing-ev-market-2020-10

A decade ago, no major automaker was going to bet on a non-existent electric-vehicle market. Big Auto was happy to sit back and watch Tesla try to create a new segment. But now, almost every carmaker has announced significant electric-vehicle ambitions for the coming decade.

Make no mistake: Without Tesla, this wouldn't be happening. We'd still be asking the circa 2006 question, "Who killed the electric car?" if Tesla hadn't reset the EV race in the years before the financial crisis, narrowly avoided bankruptcy, and positioned itself to deliver half a million vehicles in 2021 (and gift investors with a 9,200% return).

Now, the global EV market is poised to grow, especially in China, where auto sales are already millions more annually than in the US, with the potential to top out at twice what the US sees every year, around 16-17 million new cars, trucks, and SUVs. A large percentage of those new sales could be electric, and automakers don't want Tesla to capture them all.

    Thanks for the awards.

What’s my single best move (stock or option) to take advantage of a potential stimulus in the next 30 days?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:59 PM PDT

I feel like the stimulus potential is as strong as it ls going to be pregame so I'd like to make a move that will yield significant gains without slamming the gamble button... but not sure where or how to make a move to capture the opportunity. Thanks.

How do I subscribe to all corporate press releases?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 05:54 AM PDT

Take Apple's press release of its Q3 results as an example: Apple Reports Third Quarter Results. The press release is distributed by Business Wire.

How do I subscribe to a feed of such press releases, not just for Apple and other well-known companies, but for as many companies as possible? Is there some kind of subscription service for this?

Does the Dow Jones Newswire provide this service? It looks somewhat expensive...

Do ETFs get retired when a new ETF has active management?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:50 PM PDT

I need help explaining this etf dilemma I've been thinking about.

Shouldn't the constant increase in computing power and etf management methods cause etfs to go obsolete very fast. For instance: I wish to create my own portfolio of Blackrock, Invesco, Vanguard etfs, but I fear that the newer etfs have computational management methods that older ones do not. I fear this overstock of etf choices cause bad portfolios. Thank you and I'd like to hear more on whether this dilemma I'm thinking about can be further studied.

    Retail/Institutional Ratio

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:01 PM PDT

For the very last time, retail investors have little impact on most stock investments. It's not just a sentiment; it's a ratio.

You can see how much of a stock/ETF/CEF/fund is owned by retail investors or institutions or insiders or whatever. The only subsector retail investors have real sway in is business development companies. That's it.

Screen that shit! And stop blaming retail investors for bad decisions when we of all people want to protect our capital the most.

Best broker for equity/forex in Canada!

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 02:28 PM PDT

Hey guys , what do you think is the best discount broker in Canada for swing trading forex and equity markets in Canada. I tried wealth simple but it doesn't allow forex or short selling. Other seem pretty expensive to me charging close to 5$ per transaction.

    Resources for investigating companies

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:46 PM PDT

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but if I wanted to get into trading I assume I should learn how to analyze a company's financial situation first. I did take some basic economics and accounting classes in high school but that was quite a while ago. Are there any resources on how to analyze a company's financial documents i.e importance of each, what to look out for etc.

Also if there is any advice on other stuff to learn feel free to point them out xD. I know knowledge of the industry is also important but I can have a look at that later.

Can the depository bank holding ADRs purchase the entirety of them?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 01:59 AM PDT

My understanding of ADR's isn't exactly great, and I'm not sure if this is the proper sub-reddit I need to be at, if I'm not, I'd be grateful if you could guide me to the right one.

I have an assignment in class where I need to look at suitable mergers/acquisitions between two companies and I've finalized on two banks I think are suitable. Bank 'A' is based out of India and Bank 'B' is based in the US. 'A' is listed publicly in India and also has ADR's in the US where the depository bank just happens to be 'B.' I need to know if 'A' can just pull their shares off the market in the US and sell it to B or if there's any other legality involved.
