Posted: 27 Oct 2020 07:52 PM PDT Hey all! Today I made the last payment towards my student loans! I paid them down aggressively and, thanks to privilege, my mom, and thorough budgeting, I'm debt free! Including interest, I paid off about 41,500 in 28 months while also saving 12k, contributing to my retirement funds, and paying all my necessities. Very excited to pump up my savings quickly now! I kicked Navient to the curb today! Posted: 27 Oct 2020 06:40 AM PDT My Navient loans are paid in full. No more dealing with this awful servicer. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Oct 2020 06:23 PM PDT I know it can be overwhelming planning a strategy to repay your student loans, however you owe it to yourself to put in the time and make that plan. Your first strategy probably won't be perfect, but at least you are thinking about it and moving forward. :) Let's support one another on this difficult journey of student loan repayment. Refinancing Private Loans 2nd Time? Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:18 PM PDT Currently I have 97K left in loans with Interest Rate of 4.56% (5 year plan). I have 3 years and 2 months left of payment. I tried to reapply to refinance just cos I got curious of the rate and I can drop the interest rate to 3.1% (extending my current loan to 5 years again). I do plan to continuously pay the same amount monthly as I pay now (so technically it should be paid (~3 years). Anyone has experience on refinancing a student loan second time around? I heard refinancing second time can get cause your credit score to go down (not sure if true) Is it worth it? [link] [comments] |
Is it worth it to get student loans for a lifestyle experience (26F) Posted: 27 Oct 2020 04:49 PM PDT Hello everyone. I am going to be attending grad school soon and this will be my first time moving away. I am 26yrs old and have always lived with my parents due to the high cost of rent in Los Angeles and saving up money for grad school. The area where I am moving to for grad school is a lower COL area and I see this as finally my opportunity to live as an independent adult and I really want to have the experience of having my own apartment. So this is the situation, I have no debt, 10k in savings, grad school will cost me 16k. I also plan to work during school and make about 1,500 a month for living expenses. My dilemma is that I could rent a room in a house and stay within my monthly income, or rent my own apartment and essentially finance that with student loans. The cost difference would be 400 a month, so essentially I would be taking out 9,600 in loans to pay for that cost difference (400x24months), plus the 6k in tuition that I cannot cover, my total debt after school would be 16k. If I rented the room I would only have 6k in debt. On one hand it seems silly to take out loans for a lifestyle experience, on the other hand, I have paid off 35k of debt before so I feel as though I can easily pay off the 16k after graduation. What would you do? [link] [comments] |
Are Students Loans As Bad As People Say? Posted: 27 Oct 2020 09:22 AM PDT I am about to graduate high school a year early, but I'm starting to worry about the financial aspect of going to college. I think that no matter where I go, unless I get a full-ride scholarship, I'm going to need to take out a loan. Are student loans bad enough that I should settle for a cheap in-state university or trade-school instead of going to my prefered school? Just to minimize the debt as much as possible? Or should I not worry about it as much as I do? [link] [comments] |
Student loan interest is still accruing Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:11 PM PDT Granted, it's not very much that's accruing. My normal interest is about $20 per month, and I'm now accruing like $1 per month, but 0% of $0 is $0. My student loans are federal, and are through Dept. of Ed, so I know it's not that they aren't eligible. Mainly I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this? Seems ridiculous. [link] [comments] |
Paid of loan in Navient last month Posted: 27 Oct 2020 11:32 AM PDT I paid off a student loan last month. The last amount was about $1.5k, so I took out some of my savings to finish it off. Now I'm off to tackle some bigger loans that are still swinging around my neck. Also to note, I honestly didn't have any bad experiences with Navient. And to be fair, I had to deal with ECSI. The user experience was so bad, I paid off the last $2k yrs ago, by dipping into my savings and forgoing my 401k fof 4 months. [link] [comments] |
Official transcript hold even with set up payment plan!!!! Help Posted: 27 Oct 2020 09:24 AM PDT I am at a new school but they now require an official transcript. I have set up a payment plan with my previous school and have been compliant, but there is still a hold for an official transcript on my student account and I really need to send the official transcript! I called and asked them to lift the hold since I have been making payments on time. They rejected to do so. Is this legal?? How is this okay? Especially when a student is on a payment plan and is paying them off on time?? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:01 PM PDT I'm looking for advice for someone soon to graduate with my Bachelor of science in Nursing (BSN). I'm going to come out to about $90,000 but a career as a RN. I have several federal loans but about half of the debt comes from Sallie Mae (hate her) I want this debt gone quick, what do you suggest for someone that is single on their own [link] [comments] |
My Great Lakes Debit Card Payments Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:03 PM PDT Has anyone paid their loans with a debit card recently? I only have a few thousand left to pay off and I do not see an option to pay online using a debit card. Has anyone used a debit card or prepaid gift card to pay their loans recently? Is 5.99% fixed interest rate low during pandemic? Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:15 AM PDT So I have to get private loans for my 3rd year in college. I am actually in the process with wells fargo collegiate, and they offered me a 5.99% fixed rate on a $16k loan. My past student loans are about 6.49% and 6.7% interest rates (first and second year). All from wells fargo since I am also a customer I get the 0.50% "discount". Should I go for it or look for another option? I am already doing fafsa and still need private loans to pay the remaining amount... [link] [comments] |
PSLF on new acquired student loans while working full time Posted: 27 Oct 2020 09:52 AM PDT I recently started a new full time job with the federal government. I already have a Stafford loan. I was considering going back to school part time and pay for it by another student loan. I plan to continue working full time with the federal government. If I start making my 120 payments on my existing loan, Will that also apply towards my newly acquired debt? Or would PSLF only forgive (remove / delete / I won't have to pay) my current loan and I would be fully responsible for any more debt I acquire while I was part time? First time posting here. Sorry if there are any format issues with the sub. If you you need any more information please let me know. [link] [comments] |
