Need liability insurance for an internship abroad (France)

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 02:34 AM PDT

I am 21 and living in the UK. I am going to France next week to start an internship in an art museum, and they need me to have liability insurance. Any good places to search for this kind of insurance? I am no longer a student and am not covered by my University.

Looking for advice on life insurance and disability insurance

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:35 AM PDT

I'm a truck driver, considering getting into flat bed trucking. Flat bed has a much higher injury rate than other trucking jobs, and more likely to be a life altering or ending event.

Married with one adult child. I'd b making about $60-$65k. 48 years old with very small (<75k) retirement savings.

Can you recommend types and levels of insurance to protect me and my family

Possible answers and assurance that this fumble is not my fault.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 04:44 PM PDT

Alright guys. Here goes. My vehicle was struck by a downed tree, Thanks to Hurricane Delta. I need some reassurance. On Saturday, I called my insurance company through the 800 number and contacted the claims department. Keep in mind, I have a local agent who handles my policy, payments, etc. who's office is currently closed until Tuesday. The customer representative advised me that my policy was "inactive", but couldn't explain why. So I decide to investigate. I comb through my transaction history from my bank statements and find no withdrawal history in the past 90 days from my insurance company. I have not received anything in the mail, email, or haven't received any phone calls regarding this. So, there is a possibility that I have been operating my vehicle and motorcycle without insurance for the past 90 days or more. I also haven't received any letters regarding insurance cancellation from the DMV. I'm at a loss for words here.

    Road Rage and GEICO Nightmare!!!

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 08:51 AM PDT

I was in an accident last Sunday where another driver swiped in front of me from the left turn lane and slammed on his brakes. Unfortunately, I don't have video footage of the incident and have little hope that I can find it or an independent witness.

All I have for evidence is a picture from seconds after the crash that shows, me wrecked in the left lane, him in front pulling from the left lane into the right lane, and a crosswalk timer with 10 seconds left. The other driver claimed that he was stopped in the right lane, waiting at the light to turn right, when I struck him randomly. The crash very obviously took place in the left straight lane, and the crosswalk timer shows that it was at the end of a green cycle, contradicting his story completely. Do I have any hope of winning the insurance claim?

Side note, we both have Geico car insurance, no self-coverage for at-fault accidents. My car is totalled, worth about $7000, his pickup truck sustained barely visible bumper damage. So, I don't have much faith that Geico will resolve this impartially.

This was absolutely intentional and part of a road rage incident that spanned several blocks. The other driver was behind me at the red light 2 blocks before, and started honking and driving aggressively trying to get around me the instant the light turned red. A block ahead, he swerved onto the other side of the road to get around me and slammed on his brakes. I managed not to hit him there, and followed him up the next block at a very long distance while he kept slamming his brakes trying to induce a crash. At the intersection where we crashed, he pulled into the left turn lane with his left blinker on and waited for me to get right on his tail at which point he swiped in front of me and slammed his brakes. It was completely random and the most extreme road rage I've seen in 10 years of driving. I found his court record, he has several DUI and reckless driving convictions. It could happen to anyone; please get a dash cam folks! Don't learn the hard way like I did.

The accident took place in Maryland.

Haven Life vs William Penn Life Insurance

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 03:51 PM PDT

I am looking to obtain a 30 year term, $700k life insurance policy. Haven Life and William Penn both quoted me for $40/month.

The main difference is that William Penn offers OPTERM 30. This is the definition:

OPTerm policies are renewable and convertible term life insurance which provides a level death benefit. OPTERM 30 is term life insurance with level premiums during the initial 30-year period. Premiums increase annually in years 31 and later.

It seems like William Penn is a better option due to the OPTERM 30 offer. Do others agree?

EDIT: I am in NY state.

    First time getting full coverage

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:48 AM PDT

Edit per Bot request: located in Los Angeles California

Hello, most of my life I've driven old beat up cars that didn't justify getting any sort of coverage other than liability. I nvr really knew what they actually covered, I just knew that I was legally required to have it. I now have a vehicle that might be worth getting full coverage on, but I'm confused on some of the coverage options. I'm hoping y'all can help me on this.

    1. What does bodily injury cover? Is this what will be covered in the event that I am injured? Does it cover the other driver? Does it cover passengers? Does it cover regardless of who is at fault? What if the other driver does not have insurance?

    2. Property damage is the amount that insurance will cover for damage that I cause to other vehicles or property correct?

    3. What is uninsured/underinsured bodily injury coverage? Why do I need this? Doesn't that standard bodily injury cover me?

    4. Collision, this covers my vehicle in the event of an accident correct? Does it cover regardless of who is at fault? Does it cover if the other driver has no insurance? If the other driver has insurance do i get my deductible back from the other drivers insurance?

    5. Comprehensive, this covers my vehicles for accidents that don't involve another vehicle correct? like theft, or natural disasters? Does this cover hit and runs in parking lots?

    6. Uninsured motorist property damage, I don't understand this. doesn't collision and comprehensive cover my vehicle regardless of who is at fault? Why do I need this?

    7. Medical payments coverage, why do i need this? isn't this what bodily injury coverage is for?

Will my insurance rate go up if I'm hit by an at fault uninsured/unlicensed driver?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:51 PM PDT

Today I was involved in a 3 car accident caused by an unlicensed/uninsured driver who failed to yield at a left hand turn. Fortunately I was able to slam on the breaks before hitting the offending car after their initial collision, so I didn't hit them very fast. My car has minor damage to the front bumper including some ugly scrapes and a smallish but noticeable dent in on the front bumper, but all the lights properly work and the car still runs fine. I called the police but they said since none of the cars were totaled they wouldn't come on the scene to file a police report, so no help there... The car is about 11 years old, so while its not a brand new it's definitely not a junker and I plan on keeping it for hopefully at least 4-5 more years. My insurance (includes uncovered motorist insurance) is down below, but I'm wondering if I file a claim to repair the damages will my insurance go up? If my rates will increase then I don't think it's worth it to file a claim because the damages aren't that significant, but if my rates won't increase then I would like to at least get the dent fixed... I do have pictures of the license plates of both other vehicles and of the damages to both cars, so it would be pretty easy to corroborate that the at fault driver failed to yield at a left turn based on where my car and the other car hit him. Appreciate any insights!

A/C Unit destroyed, will insurance cover temporary window unit?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:28 AM PDT

I woke up this morning to my house hot as hell (I live in TX). I thought to myself, oh great our unit has broken. My husband goes outside to check the unit only to find a hole in our unit and a bullet to the side. So yep, the unit is definitely busted. We went ahead and filed a police report and have taken pictures of the unit. I personally think the unit was accidentally shot, as nothing was damaged or stolen otherwise. Either way, our policy *seems* to cover this under peril, and should cover the cost to replace the unit, I'll have to wait to talk to our agent just to make sure.

Now, here is the issue. It's Sunday and our insurance company's offices are closed for the weekend (we're new home owners so we didn't really think about that when we originally went with this company). We're both working from home right now due to the pandemic and I just can't imagine how we're going to be able to work or sleep comfortably with our house at 80 plus degrees. It's Texas, and even in October we're still getting days in the mid-nineties. Does anyone have suggestions or advice on what to do? How does one make sure that a claim is processed smoothly and quickly? How should I proceed in the weeks to follow? I hate to feel like I'm acting dramatic, but it truly is hot right now, and due to covid, I can't exactly go work or escape elsewhere when the heat is so bad. I've heard of insurance companies covering things like hotels, but would an insurance company be likely to cover the cost of a temporary window unit? Would it be ok to buy it now and seek reimbursement after?

    Question regarding collision claim

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:13 AM PDT

This happened in CA. My wife was unfortunately involved in an accident last week. She was making a left turn at an intersection with a stop sign. From the opposite road (also with a stop sign), another driver also intended to make a left turn. The road going across does not have stop signs. My wife had reached the intersection first and saw the other driver. So she thought that he had seen her and she started driving. As she reached halfway across the intersection, she saw that he started driving at fairly high speed. She stopped her car in the middle of the intersection and his car crashed into ours. Our car's front fender and bumper got damaged badly. The front left tire also burst. We had to get our car towed back to our place. His car also suffered minor damages but he was able to drive away from the spot. My wife called 911 from the scene of the accident. The operator said that all cops were busy at that moment. So a cop couldn't come and there were no other witnesses/cam footage. There was a car who was behind her but it did not stop. The other driver apologized to her and said that he didn't see her. He said that he thought that her car was parked. Normally there are cars that are parked along the curb where she was coming from.

Both of us are insured by the same insurance company (starting with G). An agent called my wife the same day and took all the details. We got our car towed to the body shop. The body shop gave a bill of $4500 for the repairs. We have collision coverage in our insurance policy with a deductible of $500.

Yesterday, we got a letter in the mail from the other driver's representative which states that we failed to yield the right of way to his vehicle lawfully within the intersection. The damage to his vehicle does not disprove the other driver's version of the accident. Based on the information, it has not been proven that the other driver is liable for the damages to our car and hence they're denying our claim.

My wife was aghast at reading the letter since the other driver clearly changed his version after the accident. We are worried that this accident will lead to an increase in our insurance premium. We are planning to call our representative to discuss about this. What other options do we have now ?

Should get Triple AAA car insurance again or sign up for a not well known car insurance company called Pronto General Insurance Agency?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 08:42 AM PDT

I recently got my auto insurance policy cancelled due to non-payment and just refusing to handle responsibilities. I signed up last year in November and it cost me 1500 to sign up and $120 a month after that. (I have an 06' jetta) so as of now I have no insurance. I have enough money to start a new policy but I'm wondering is it worth it to have a premium membership with AAA? Or go with a not well know car insurance carrier like Pronto General insurance agency. Does it matter to get insured by a known company than to not? Also I'm 21yrs, got 1 ticket this year for speeding. No car crashes. Thanks in advanced
