    I miss my coworkers

That's a tax season wrap! I really missed being super busy while in office with some of my beloved coworkers. Misery loves company and misery loves company-funded take out.

No, but really, I do enjoy some of my work buddies and this year at home has been an adjustment. Happy 10/15 tax pros.

    Some Good News

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 06:58 AM PDT

I'm a 32 year old career changer coming from a Sales background. Started at car dealerships before working up to software sales and eventually sales management (and picked up a mediocre MBA from Johns Hopkins along the way).

Hated it so I spent my life savings and retirement on a bet to go into accounting in order to become a Tax Accountant.

2 months into my MAccy I got a busy season internship offer and a full-time offer for postgrad from a Top 10 firm.

    Rejected from Accounting Firms

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 11:12 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I've been applying and recruiting with accounting firms for the past year and can't seem to land anything. It's just so disappointing when all my peers can easily land internships and full-time positions with Big 4 and mid-tier firms and I'm stuck with nothing.

This was my 4th time attending Meet the Firms along with all the other recruiting events and I don't know what I could be doing wrong. I've gotten positive feedback for my networking from lots of the people in the firms and had friends recommend me as well.

I recruited extremely hard with a particular Big 4 firm where I networked hard with everyone at the firm and they all remembered my name and had positive conversations and all thought it was strange that I was getting passed up upon. Likewise, all my peers have easily snagged interviews from multiple Big 4 Firms with the same if not, lower GPA and experience.

I have a 3.3 GPA along with an accounting internship and also part of accounting clubs as experience. I'm not particularly awkward at all and quite outgoing so I'm not sure if it could be the networking portion. I'm graduating soon and it's just strange that I'm just getting the generic rejection email before even getting to interview every time. Apologies for the rant. I'm just really sad.

tldr; Can't land an interview with an accounting firm and I'm clinically depressed af.

How much do you think the top-tier partners (i.e. CEOs & Chairman level guys) get paid in Big4?

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 02:27 PM PDT

Just curious to see how much Tim Ryan of PwC and other leaders of big 4 in similar position would get paid. Any ideas?

Recent graduate seeking recruitment advice (CANADA)

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 10:39 PM PDT

    Hello Canadian accountants of reddit,

I'm seeking some advice because I've been put in a very awkward position. In true CPA style I will provide as much detail and get straight to the point:

I was very lucky at peek recruitment season at the fall semester of my senior year to land an interview with a large national firm very early on and getting an offer which I accepted

Fast forward to July of my graduating year a month before my start date; the firm rescinds my offer due to covid 19 economic hardship.

Because of my offer, I stupidly did not attend any networking events and basically ignored any and all recruitment related events and activities at the university

I am now graduated, no job and no opportunity to network. The firm that originally hired me won't even answer my emails or return my phone calls inquiring about the job which they reposted for the following year. (I suspect their starting salary has been drastically lowered)

Recruitment season has come and gone and I am left with no offers

I'm really passionate about public accounting, I feel that it is a great fit with my skills and personality, I come from a retail management background so I'm used to and enjoy dealing with clients. Industry accounting sounds really depressing. I had it all planned out, I was going to grind it and try to make partner at a CPA firm and move from audit to consulting

I am asking for any advice on what I should do to try to get into public accounting given my current circumstances. I feel like a total failure.

Anyone here comes or lives in the hood?

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 08:42 AM PDT

How do you deal with the cognitive dissonance from wearing a suit and a tie for public accounting, then doing hood shit whenever you're not wearing that suit and tie?

I returned back to public, everything good, I can make it. But I've had to re-read and re-sign all these confidentiality and ethics agreements and I got this massive cultural shock in my head. Everything I do in public audit goes against all the petty crime shit I witness in the hood in a constant basis. If I was a WoW toon I'm a fucking rogue that dual wields 2handers in both hands. I can't even look at police without getting visibly agressive/mad. And I'm a CPA at the same time.

And it's not a geographical issue, even when I move into a fancy apartment, I end up hanging out with the hoodlums of the area.

Working in Big 4 tax, is working all night to get 10/15 returns filed, only to start interim RTP work 1 hour after everything is submitted.

    Am I underpaid?

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 10:26 AM PDT

    $80,000/yr.

    Los Angeles county.

    CPA, EA

    4 years experience

Individual, corporate returns, payroll, bookkeeping, sales tax, work 10 hour days, come in Saturdays to keep up, aside from busy season.

Manage 500 clients on my own.

I'm skeptical about where I am on the pay scale. On one hand, I'm only 4 years in. On the other, I have 2 licenses, and I bring in over $800,000 in revenue a year.
