Baillie Gifford, Tesla's largest outside shareholder, has reduced its position in the electric auto maker after the company's rapid share appreciation made it an outsized influence on the firm's holdings.

A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday showed that the U.K.-based fund group now owns less than 5% of Tesla, down from 6.32%, according to data from FactSet.

"We intend to remain significant shareholders for many years ahead. We remain very optimistic about the future of the company," Baillie Gifford's James Anderson said.

Shares of Tesla were down 7% during early trading on Wednesday.

Here is a Market recap for today, Wed, Sept 2. Please enjoy!

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:30 PM PDT

    PsychoMarket Recap - Wednesday, September 2, 2020

Stocks continued advancing on Wednesday, with investors encouraged by positive economic data and moderating COVID-19 infection rate in previous epicenters. Tech stocks once again led the charge, with industry bellwethers like Amazon ($AMZN) and Google ($GOOG) all opening at new record high. Apple ($AAPL) and Tesla ($TSLA) pulled back sharply from their post-stock split highs.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday during a congressional hearing of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis that he believed a bipartisan agreement on further fiscal stimulus "still should be reached.

Newly announced economic data continues to surpass Wall St estimates. The ISM manufacturing index hit its highest levels since Aug 2018 and construction spending increasing. However, reports on the labor market are showing slower recovery. Per CNBC, 'private payroll gains in August totaled 428,000, or less than half the 1 million jobs expected'.

Following the best month in decades, investors appear hopeful and active in a usually slow month. There's hope that increasingly better economic data, support from the Federal Reserve, the potential for fiscal stimulus, and a vaccine in the short, and states reopening can continue to push the market higher.

    Highlights

    • Macy's ($M) temporarily alleviated fears of bankruptcy with a surprisingly encouraging earnings report. Stock was modestly down today.
    • AMC's ($AMC) news that it would be reopening more theaters this weekend. Stock was up 16% today.
    • Intel $INTC launches 11th Gen Intel processors with, reportedly the world's best processors for thin-and-light laptops. More than 150 designs based on 11th Gen Intel Core processors are expected
    • Amarin $AMRN declined 28% on midday Wednesday as oral arguments on its appeal of a March ruling invalidating certain patents of its heart drug Vascepa begin
    • Berenberg decreased ($AAL) American Airlines price target from $14 to $10. (which is strange considering that today, they upgraded ($LUV) Southwest Airlines)
    • ($SDC) Smile Direct Club insiders (CEO, CFO and Director) purchased a combined 1.96 Million shares of stock for about $16 Million. Shares are up 23% so far in the day
    • Nvidia ($NVDA) has been on a tear recently. Stock is up 11.9% since Friday.

Notable Earnings for tomorrow, Sept 3: Broadcom Inc ($AVGO), Campbell Soup ($CPB), Cooper Companies Inc ($COO), Docusign Inc ($DOCU),

Dow extends gains, jumps 300 points as Coca-Cola and IBM outperform

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:15 AM PDT

Stocks rose on Wednesday, continuing a strong start to September for the market as traders took profits out of high-flying names like Apple and Tesla and snapped up shares in more beaten-down parts of the market.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 300 points, or 1%. The S&P 500 gained 1% while the Nasdaq Composite was higher by 0.5%. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hit record highs, with the Nasdaq topping 12,000 for the first time.

Coca-Cola rose more than 3% along with IBM to lead the Dow higher. However, both of those stocks are still down year to date. Apple and Tesla slid 2.6% and 6.5%, respectively, giving back some of their recently sharp gains. The iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (IWD) rose 1.1% to outperform its Growth counterpart.

Wall Street was coming off a banner session in which the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at record highs. The S&P 500 also logged in its best first trading day of September since 2010, according to Bespoke Investment Group.

Morgan Stanley Chief U.S. Equity Strategist Mike Wilson said Tuesday on "Closing Bell" that he was still optimistic about the market long-term but that weakness in the weeks ahead was on the table after such a strong rally.

Looking for tools to track a portfolio snapshot, like a watchlist but with your actual holdings from a point in time.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:15 PM PDT

Maybe I'm asking for something that doesn't exist or is right in front of me and I don't know it.

I want to be able to track the "what if I had stayed with this stock" to the level of shares, purchase price and current price. So like a watch list but with portfolio specific information. I'm already doing something similar in google sheets with the GOOGLEFINANCE function but a brokerage tool would be the obvious choice as you're basically just copying your current portfolio to a watch list with benefits or a paper trade portfolio. ETRADE has something called a virtual portfolio but it looks just like a watch list so maybe I'm missing something there.

Again it seems somewhat obvious to be able to gauge how you're doing better than just tracking your portfolio balance.

Do you guys think a $160 call for next January would hit with Apple? Like many others, I'm having a hard time predicting anything with the stock market and would welcome any council.

    Thoughts on NVIDIA (NVDA)??

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:55 AM PDT

My uncle works in a pharma company that uses all NVIDIA tech and was telling me to invest when it was around $140 a share. Today it has soared past that but he claims it is still going to go up, what are your thoughts? I'm fairly new to this and would like a little advice.

Whiting Petroleum = Stock price: WLL (NYSE) $19.50 +18.93 (+3,322.25%)?????

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:10 PM PDT

There was a post earlier this year in which WLL did some crazy movements prior:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/StockMarket/comments/g69s48/whiting_oil_wll_up_111/

So now, after the re-emergence, we see this.
    How is that even possible?
It opened at about 28.00 after, just the prior week being at under 1.00...around 80-ish, 90ish cents.
Woke up this morning and see the $19.50 +18.93 (+3,322.25%).

    But specifically, the +3,322.25%

That percentage is batshit insane. You cant trade on this using apps either...so i check several other sites on pricing and sure enough...its almost at 20 now.

So, what is going on here?

Conversation and thoughts on the upcoming MARIJUANA boom... This is imminent!

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:49 PM PDT

    Hey guys, so...

As fun as it is to ride waves in the moment as is tech right now, it sure is fun to catch them early.

On Sept 21 there's a pretty important House vote on basically decriminalizing marijuana at the federal level.

Also, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota have upcoming ballots to loosen restrictions or legalize marijuana in those states respectively this year.

On other fronts (OTC:CURLF) Curaleaf, (OTC:TCNNF) TRU, (OTC:GTBIF) Green Thumb Industries, (OTC:PLNHF) Planet 13 in Vegas, and others are having good years and increasing guidance. Even pick and shovel businesses like (GRWG) Growth Generation have seen increasing action and coverage.

All over the states pot sales are reportedly increasing at record rates. Illinois recreational pot sales, which have been legal since Jan 1, 2020) were deemed as essential when the pandemic struck and in July had set a record $60MM in sales topping June and May which had also been record. This translated into $52 Million in tax revenue for the state for the first six months of 2020.

On top of everything else, in general, popular pot stocks like $CRON $TLRY $CGC $ACB are waaaaaaaaay down.

So I believe it is the time to begin to position ourselves in a good place to profit from the imminent coming gold rush. that can be really running by mid of next year or more.

    Speak forth...

What are your thoughts, potential plays, and/or comments on this matter?

    Explain me share pricing?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:21 AM PDT

According to a financial management book I read "Market value of share = ( tot assets - tot liability) /number of shares "

But if we see the trading price of shares then " price × no of shares >> net assets "

Does anyone know what this stock is ?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:44 PM PDT

Is Macy’s really doing better than Nordstrom?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:34 AM PDT

Macy's just beat earnings by over 50 %. Digital sales rose 53 %. In the same quarter, Nordstrom's digital sales declined by 5 % although they rose by 20 % if adjusted for their pushed anniversary sale. Still, 53 % vs 20 % ? And Kohl's digital sales rose 60 %.

Why is Nordstrom so bad? I thought they were better than the other two to be honest. Maybe Nordstrom is suffering more because they offer a better in store experience than the other two but since people are shopping online they don't gain anything from that. They're also losing revenue from loss of tailoring and styling services I guess. BUT, Nordstrom's full line stores only accounted for 1/3 of total sales pre-Covid, while 2/3 came from its off price business (Nordstrom Rack) and digital sales... that's the main reason why I actually thought Nordstrom would be doing better than the other two during the pandemic - because off price business usually do alright when there's an economic crisis going on and Nordstrom has more of that than Kohl's and Macy's.

Still, as Covid goes away I think Nordstrom will increasingly outperform Kohl's and Macy's.. but as long as it's here Nordstrom will probably suffer the most?

    Opinions on FSLR

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:38 AM PDT

    Good morning,

Lately I've been trying to expose myself to the renewable energy sector in the stock market. So far I was taking a look at FSLR (First Solar) and a few others, but this one seems to be my main target for now. Would anyone recommend buying? Any useful information on this company that isn't widely known already? Does anyone own stocks from the company, if so, how do they usually perform? Any information in general regarding FSLR that you would like to share would be vastly appreciated.

Good luck in the market, traders!

    Opinions on Trash/Recycling Positions

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:15 AM PDT

    Waste & Recycling

    ♻️ 🗑 📈 🚛 💰

The field seems limited, and we all generate trash & recyclables. Not the most sexy stock to watch, but long term hold and growth seems like a safe defensive position.

Thoughts on who to play? Eying getting some positions with either WM, RSG or CWST. I see all 3 regularly up here in my neck of the woods (Northeast).

Any clue who buys up smaller trash companies to get bigger? JRM Hauling & Recycling is pretty big locally, they collect trash for the city I reside in and also all of Gillette Stadiums trash, but we know how stadiums are doing ATM. If they had a ticker they would be my first choice.

    Thanks for any feedback!
