Property manager requires insurance, but not sure which one? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:26 PM PDT I'm total newbie, so I think this question is kinda basic.. I'm planning to rent an office in the business center. The property manager asked me to turn in an insurance certification. I asked them which one I need, and they told me I need the basic insurance. What is this basic insurance? Is it renters insurance or property insurance? [link] [comments] |
Looking for suggestions on project management tools for software development firm Posted: 27 Sep 2020 07:03 PM PDT We started a software dev firm about a half year ago, and have a few sizable projects at various stages of development/deployment. I'm struggling a bit with keeping on top of the projects, where they are at, what's required next, code reviews, client needs and features requests, company documentation & guides, etc. I have been looking at the Atlassian suite of tools of late, and they look pretty good and all encompassing. I really like Confluence so far, and how easy and clean the documentation is. However, I'm not a fan of Bitbucket and how it integrates (seemingly poorly) to the rest of the tools. But, I'm looking for tips or suggestions on the tools you folks use. What has worked well for you for managing large software projects? How do you handle distributing tasks and tracking bugs? What about documentation for company-wide standards, or project-specific requirements? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
17 yo, looking to expand mini company. Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:49 AM PDT Looking for help, I have been making locks for wheelie bins and have sold around 140 already through markets and door to door sales, I'm allowed to sell tax free as it is a school "mini company"and I have to work with two friends, who have done absolutely nothing. as of now I have regretfully split the profits 33% each. It's a really handy way to make money, we are able to make them for €1 each and we sell for €5, and we are getting loads of customers emailing us looking for more. They are all put together at my house and made quick and easily,( 30seconds to make 1) What I'm needing to know is how can I either fire my colleague or get them actually working I also would love to start selling these online but also avoid taxation. Like how to receive the money, how to expand etc etc [link] [comments] |
Right time to start a business? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:04 PM PDT Hi guys so I have been trying to find an IT job for months now and haven't been able to. I have experience and education in the field but not a degree yet (1 more year). The thing is, I really need a career change. right now I'm working a dead end job just to pay bills and it's really making me miserable not being able to do what I love. I know COVID has slowed down hiring but I'm starting to get hopeless. People are telling me I should start my own business doing IT stuff for consumers and small businesses but I don't know if it's the right time. I basically have nothing to lose now but I still have a year left of college. That being said I do online school and work full time so I would have the time. Is it better to just risk it now and go for it or wait until I have graduated and have more on the job experience. The experience I do have was really entry level (was in high school). But I have plenty of knowledge and went to a trade high school where I learned a lot. [link] [comments] |
SMBs who create events around the world might not make it until January. Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:09 PM PDT Do you know about the Restart Act? S.3814 – RESTART Act is struggling for attention in Congress; if this isn't approved on September 30th by our legislators, many businesses and professionals who create events around the continent might not make it until January. Over 8,700 small business owners have written to their respective Congressional leaders in support of the RESTART Act. Keep reading to find out how you can too! While the Paycheck Protection Program provided some relief for SMBs, many have argued that the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing pandemic calls for more extended, more sustained, and flexible assistance. Many of these companies and their respective employees have spent their entire reserves over the last six months, and can't afford to wait any longer without government support. WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP? "What we do today, until we are back, that's what matters." If you saw a local business, theater, events center, or other venue illuminated in RED on September 1st, you have seen the result of the combined efforts of everyone in the industry coming together to support each other. But what can you do now? The #RedAlertRESTART campaign is not asking for donations. All that we ask is that you lend us your voice; here's how you can help: –Write to your Senators on our behalf, urging them to pass a comprehensive relief bill NOW that includes the RESTART Act and an extension and expansion of PUA and FPUC. -Post photos of your personal experience with an event: a trade show, concert, expo, exhibition. Make sure to tag your local Representatives and Senators, venue, and u/WeMakeEventsNorthAmerica (Facebook) u/WeMakeEvents_NA (Twitter). Don't forget to use these hashtags: #TheTimeIsNow #WeMakeEvents #RedAlertRESTART #ExtendPUA #DoNotAbandonUs #TheTimeIsNOW. -Educate yourself about the events industry's plight, including over 2 million workers and businesses in North America without income. -Support companies and workers in the events industry by using their services for events that haven't been canceled due to the pandemic. Posted: 27 Sep 2020 06:18 PM PDT Hi, so I run a sticker shop and someone who lives in China made a really big order which i'm really grateful for! But I mail my stickers via stamped mail and I'm concerned about how i'm supposed to write the address, i've seen people talking about how addresses in China are ordered differently and stuff like that so I don't know. I really don't wanna risk her order being lost because she spent a ton of money on my shop. Does anyone who has experience with this know what to do? Im not sure if I can get a shipping label right now. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:07 PM PDT I started my business this year and am wondering if it's worthwhile to hire a CPA at this stage. It's looking like I'll finish the year with close to $150k in revenue. I have a bookkeeper. [link] [comments] |
How to handle customer initiating racial conversations with other customers Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:03 PM PDT Recreational business and we have one customer who constantly initiates conversations about race relations with other customers who are clearly uncomfortable having such discussions with him. Most regard the talks as inappropriate. We are concerned about losing customers and don't want to lose him or any other customer but something has to change. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Electrician - what else can i use my education for that i don't know about? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:24 AM PDT Finished my education as an electrician (in europe) a year ago, with specialty in industrial automation and PLC programming. I have a dream about starting my own business in the tech and automation industri of some sort, but feel like the industri is so BIG that i don't know which path to take. I've worked with developing and building packaging systems. (Ex. palletising robots and transport conveyors) and also worked a bit with web dev. But have no real interest any longer in doing mechanical stuff - my passion is with software. I don't think i have the skills and experience yet, to be a freelance developer. But on the other hand i'm also dreading the thought, of continuing to have to work for somebody else. Does anyone know about a tech niche of some sort that i missed - or know about an alternative path to take? Please help! [link] [comments] |

Management software for hospitality businesses Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:43 AM PDT Hello! I've working in bars and restaurants for about half a decade now, and I've noticed that there isn't a "go-to" venue management app/website. Most of the places I've worked have Facebook+rostering software+bookings+tracking reviews, etc. with separate subscriptions for each, and different accounts for each venue. Would there be value in building a single, overarching application that combines all of these? So you could say "I want to start a café" and then that's (mostly) the only piece of software you'd need. Or am I barking up the wrong tree? [link] [comments] |
I'm giving it a year but is it worth it? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:16 PM PDT I had been thinking about selling prints for a while, so setup and a website (https://pickleverseprints.com) and currently setting up an Etsy store, but I'm doubting if my stuff is even good enough to sell. I'm giving myself a year, but should I even bother? I don't know how to run it, advertise it or anything and I'm not sure if the prints are even any good. [link] [comments] |
Any art studios or artists in this group? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:23 PM PDT Two questions and could really use some advice- I own a mosaic art studio in Philadelphia where pre Covid I gave classes twice a week and hosted special events (BYOB make your own mosaic parties). I also use the space as my own personal workshop where I do commissions, make artwork, etc. I've had the studio closed to the public since Covid started as I have been anxious about offering in person classes. Some of the local art centers have started resuming in person classes and my students are starting to email me to ask when we will open back up. My classes have always been drop in. I would like to limit class size and have people reserve a space in class in advance and pay at that time. How do I set that up? I am a total technophobe but is there a something on wix, square or vennmo (three programs that I already use) that makes this easy? Also, does it make sense to market the private parties as a way to gather safely with friends and family as an alternative to a restaurant? People can mask up in my place and have the whole space to themselves. Maybe I eliminate the BYOB aspect? Seems like there may be an opportunity here but I'm not sure. Just trying to figure out how to get back open safely and pay the pile of bills on my desk. Thanks in advance for any help. I have had this business since 97 and have been able to keep it going through a lot of economic downturns but this situation is unlike anything else!! [link] [comments] |
I made a meme product and got a bunch of interest but no orders. What am I doing wrong? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:59 PM PDT So on a whim I 3d printed a bunch of fake airpods and made a video on tiktok about them. Since Airpods are so expensive, seeing a big pile of airpods freaks you out! Turns out my tiktok got 3 million views, 500K likes and hundreds of people were asking me to buy them as jewelry. I put up a google form in my tiktok bio to collect email addresses and get to work. I got over 400 email addresses from interested buyers and also sourced a better looking airpod "blank" from a manufacturer and built bluetoothearrings.com! I sent out news of my new website to my 400 leads and got zero purchases and no leads. Is this just the reality of the industry? I thought there would be enough interest to at least get me a couple orders. I'm not discouraged and I'm going to continue marketing my product and improving the website, but I'm surprised I got no leads. What do you think? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
I don’t even know if anyone will see this! Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:23 PM PDT Somehow I doubt it. But it's worth a shot- I would love some feedback on my boutique (it's all online so won't take too much of your time). Likes/dislikes, tell me everything! Price points, clothes selection, don't hold anything back. I understand Reddit is the place to get answers and I definitely need some. Thanks so much y'all xoxo [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Sep 2020 09:27 PM PDT I have looked into Square for taking mobile payments and integrating it with quickbooks, I want to make sure that when I actually hit the ground running I'm properly tracking all the important information that I'll need when tax season hits! So far I have read about using Square for processing payments, Hurdlr for keeping track of expenses and quickbooks as a general reference for all the above? Am I missing something or misunderstanding the uses of the above items? [link] [comments] |
Small business finally doing something. Posted: 27 Sep 2020 09:16 PM PDT As a young entrepreneur, I went off and tried to make my company flourish by pouring my life savings into shopify and digital marketing. And all that jazz. All I did is create debt. And lose myself . My pivot good old meet show my work andproduce. I spent 3000 on eddm mailed a flyer to everyone in my small town. And went to a few Dinner in the park hosted by a local restaurant. And a few bars that pivoted outside. And finally work is finally becoming steady. So old fashioned way was the way for me. More motivation to get my brick and mortar store running. Now just need the events to start rolling again and should have things going as I planned . I guess ya know you really have to find what works for you.. there is no get rich quick that is satisfying. Your dream takes hardwork and dedication. Nothing worth it is easy. I know this is just beginning for me But I faced alot in these first 8 months. Dont give up on your dream becuz it's hard. Keep the dream alive. SinfulxVanity Art and Design [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2020 09:12 PM PDT I hope that this post is appropriate for this community and that I made sense with my question. I'm a curious person who is always brainstorming and I see that, for example, social media has made a major impact on the way that the online world functions, and in the people are using it. What could be an example of businesses who built a business model relying on an industry's changes to the market? I have had this thought in my mind and I thought Reddit would be a place to go and not sure where to ask this question. Thank you. Love you. [link] [comments] |

Riskiness of a Small Online Sale w/o Business Registration Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:30 PM PDT Hi all, I am in the very early stages of building towards an online store, selling custom apparel and accessories. I've done a few hours of research wrapping my head around the business registration//DBA process, getting an EIN, securing a resale license, etc, and hope to set up a consultation with a CPA soon to make sure my eggs are in order for when I'm ready to really get things rolling. I want to test the workflow waters by doing a very lowkey sale with my network, selling custom face masks in exchange for Venmo/CashApp payments. This would be a very small run of product -- most likely no more than 50 masks will be sent off -- and is time-sensitive, as the idea is to use the products to promote voter registration & engagement leading up to the election. Since I doubt I would be taking in much more than a couple hundred dollars through Venmo/CashApp, is there a risk in doing this without registering as a business first? FYI I live in New York, and the profits from this endeavor would be donated to a non-profit. Thanks all! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:54 AM PDT Hi there! I'm new here and excited to be a part of this sub. I am in the works of starting a graphic design business and am going to open up a single member LLC. From my understanding, I need to open a business bank account and put everything I make from sales into that account, then cut myself a check from that account to pay myself so my income and the business income are separate. When it comes time to file taxes, do I pay the taxes on my personal income only? If so, how do I apply business write offs to my personal income taxes when they are business write offs? Also would it be yearly or quarterly? I think I'm majorly confused somewhere. My plan is something like this as an example: $2000 in monthly sales to business account > save 10% ($200) in business account for my minimal monthly expenses > Cut myself a check for 90% ($1800) > save 30% ($540) for taxes > Keep $1260 for my living Is that about right? Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
